Multiple times the vehicle will drive very jumpy even if not pressing on the gas or brakes. When accelerating or braking the car will randomly drastically respond to the pedals or barely respond almost making it impossible to stop at times. The inconsistency of breaking and gas power has caused me almost be hit or hit someone else repeatedly.
While merging onto rt684 I went to accelerate and the car was non-responsive to me pushing on the gas. The car continued to not respond to the accellerator and then the "service 4wd" light came on the dashboard. This was a safety issue because I had no notice that there was an issue until after the issue took place, a car was very close behind me and almost hit me from behind while I had my 2yr old son and newborn in the back seat. This vehicle has had a number of safety related issues: did not respond to the break on 12/24/24, has been in the Jeep dealership service center for over 115 days since my lease began may 2023. The most recent incident was on 12/20/2025 where it did not accellerate while merging onto the highway. The was in the shop from 12/20/25 - 12/30/25 upon return the car had very stiff steering and the car felt jumpy on 1/6/26 the "service 4wd" light went on again and has been in the shop from 1/6/26- until present.
I taken my vehicle to the dealership three times in less than one year, and my recall have not been fixed. An unexpected loss of propulsion can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning is what the recall is saying. This vehicle is not safe to drive, yet the dealership won't provide me another vehicle, nor buying it back. The recall number is 73c. My hybrid electrical system light comes on and my vehicle cuts off by itself when driving. Vehicle can catch fire at any moment due to this recall not being fixed.
As I was driving in a parking lot, the service hybrid error popped up and then suddenly the vehicle was showing to press brake & hit start button. The vehicle began slowing down and even while pressing the gas the vehicle wouldn’t do anything. I was able to coast into an empty part of the parking lot. The vehicle then wouldn’t go into park. The emergency brake engaged without me doing anything. Then it kept telling me to press brake & hit start button but it wouldn’t do anything. The veg hole seemed to be on. But acted as if it was off. I sat disabled in the parking lot for 5-10 minutes before it would turn back on and let me resume normal activities.
73c / NHTSA 25v576 recall regarding loss of propulsion/vehicles stopping and / or decelerating.
My 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid electric vehicle is subject to multiple NHTSA safety recalls involving loss of propulsion and vehicle fire risk. These defects have created ongoing safety hazards and extended loss of use. Safety recall 73c (NHTSA 25v-576) addresses a hybrid control processor software defect that may cause sudden and unexpected loss of drive power without warning, increasing the risk of a crash. Safety recall 78c (NHTSA 25v-766) involves potential contamination of the 2. 0l engine from the casting process, which may result in catastrophic engine failure, vehicle fire, and unrecoverable loss of drive power. For an extended period, no remedy was available. Safety recall 68c (NHTSA 25v-741) involves a high voltage battery defect that may lead to a vehicle fire. Fca instructed owners not to recharge the vehicle and to park away from structures or other vehicles. I have been unable to safely charge the vehicle for over six months and have been restricted from using my assigned covered parking due to fire risk. Despite multiple dealership visits for recall-related service, the vehicle has not been fully restored to safe, normal operation. No loaner or substitute transportation has been provided during safety-related repairs. These conditions significantly impair the safety, use, and value of the vehicle and create ongoing risk to occupants and surrounding property. I am submitting this complaint to document the safety issues and extended lack of an effective remedy.
We leased a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe in June 2023, and since that time the vehicle has been a chronic source of mechanical and electrical failure. Over the past two years, it has been in for service 11 times, spending more than 115 total days in the shop, with at least 9 repeat issues—largely related to high-voltage interference and hybrid system instability, from our research. The problems began before we ever took possession, with a service record at just 12 miles on the odometer showing a repair to the integrated dual charging module (1890169a). Since then, we've experienced a cascade of issues affecting sensors, control modules, cameras, switches, and critical vehicle systems—many of which appear to stem from electromagnetic interference (emi) related to the hybrid platform. Key repairs have included: park assist and adas control modules (09/28/23) reprogramming of multiple modules (backup camera, backup sensors) (01/25/24) backup view camera replacement (02/16/24) fuel system pump and lighting issues (04/05/24) high-voltage recall 95b, battery coolant pump, wiring harness, battery fire risk & issue (01/30–04/01/25) the final straw came on 05/09/2025, when—while driving 70 mph on the freeway—the vehicle suddenly shut off without warning. We lost all acceleration and power, forcing us to drift to the shoulder in traffic. It took multiple restart attempts and a wait period before the vehicle became responsive again. This was not only terrifying—it was dangerous. The next day, the Jeep dealer where the vehicle was purchased, picked up our car, and we’ve received no update on its status. It is currently undrivable, and we fear it’s unsafe. We previously filed for arbitration for with ncds (March 2023), which was denied. The situation has deteriorated significantly since then, and we are now filing a second arbitration, alongside this formal NHTSA safety complaint. Certified letters sent to the manufacturer earlier this year have gone unanswered.
I started with the 95b recall when car owners were instructed to not plug in their vehicles or park near any other structures for about 4 months until a fix was released. Then my car experienced multiple service hybrid sysytem errors. The car physically shut down on two separate occasions, both while I was transporting my child, putting us at extreme risk for an accident. It has been at the dealership since July 2025 with the mechanic receiving a digital crash code. His attempts to talk with someone at Jeep/stelantis have gone unanswered. The vehicle is currently located at the Jeep dealership in los cabos, baja California sur, mexico and is available for inspection upon request.
My cars dash had a lot of lights turn on and my car just shut off while I was driving I took my car to the dealership and was told that they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. About six weeks later my car just turned off again while I was driving but this time only the service hybrid light turned on and quickly turned off. I just called the dealership and will be dropping off my car again.
Powertrain/engine performance (acceleration control): vehicle struggles to accelerate when pressing the gas. Transmission / drivetrain (gear engagement / shift control): vehicle drops from reverse into neutral without driver input (unintended gear disengagement). Water intrusion: ongoing water intrusion, power tailgate was already replaced due to water erosion, when it rains or snows water gets into vehicle resulting in a musty/moldy smell and driver side mat soaking wet. Yes — the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The loss of acceleration / hesitation / jolting creates a risk of being unable to merge, cross intersections, or accelerate in traffic when needed. The unintended shift from reverse into neutral can cause loss of intended vehicle control/movement while reversing (driveway/parking lot risk), increasing collision risk with nearby vehicles, pedestrians, or property. Reverse ? neutral: reported to dealer multiple times; confirmation varies by visit (intermittent concern) stellantis customer retention states they spoke with the service manager and confirmed the repair history and dealer visits, not necessarily a physical engineer inspection.
I received a safety recall letter in the mail. I made an appointment at the south shore Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram service center in inwood, NY for the repair of the recall and to change the oil. I specifically made the appointment for the recall (I keep getting notifications to repair) I went to the service center (1 hour drive from my home) on may 18,2024 (when I called to check in for the appointment “shanty” told me that there’s no appointment scheduled for me, even though I got a text message confirming the appointment) nevertheless, I went anyways. When I provided the recall letter to the representative, he told me that the service team can only do an oil change and can’t repair the defrost that day. So, after waiting for the oil change, I asked when I can come back for the recall repair, the representative told me that they need to get the parts first. I also notified the rep. That my parking rear view camera doesn’t turn on sometimes when in r and sometimes the screen goes black while I’m in the middle of parking. They ended up letting me go and drive with the recall still active. On June 19, 2024, I read on fox business that stellantis is recalling Jeeps due to rear view camera defects. I called the dealer who sold me the car (apparently he no longer works at Jeep) I spoke to a different representative, she gave me the phone number to mopar and stellantis - nothing else. Throughout the entire time of driving this car, I’ve been experiencing total discomfort. The car constantly jerks, seems like it doesn’t have enough power or traction (even though the gas tank is full and charged too) , and the windshield defrost takes a long time to work, even just the other day on June 29,2024 I started to drive and the windshield got so foggy that I had to stop. This car is dangerous and I do not feel safe driving it.
The engine would randomly accelerate , rev and make a whining noise, slip into neutral and I would have to pull over and shut it off sometimes in an unsafe area. Occasionally when I would start the engine it would rev as though I had my foot on the gas and I would shut it back off. I was traveling on the highway approximately 70 mph and cancelled the cruise control to go around a curve and pressed on the gas to merge into 70 mph traffic on another highway, and nothing happened. When I got to the end of the ramp the car was going 32 mph with my foot to the floor on the gas panic stricken. Suddenly the gas engaged and I shot into the traffic trying to avoid me. I took the car home, parked it in the garage and called a local dealership for service explaining the problems I was having. I went to resume my trip in a friends car because I was frightened to drive mine. While I was away my partner went to move the car a few feet to get to the trash barrel and when he put it in reverse the car shot 8 feet at high speed out of the garage and hit a tree. He went to the hospital and the car was taken on a flatbed to the dealership where I purchased it. There is considerable damage. The acceleration problem happened at least 15 times and I have several adults that were in the car and witnessed it. Chrysler did the diagnostics and said there is no defect. I would never attempt to drive the car again and if I traded it in then an unsuspecting person could be hurt or killed in it.
I am experiencing 2 issues with the vehicle. 1. I am not sure exactly which component is affected, but on several occasions I have had the car essentially stop responding while I"m driving. While driving on the highway, the car somehow loses response, I don't know any other way to describe it. It's almost like the car switches to neutral, but the gear indicator still says it's in drive. Pressing the gas pedal does nothing, the car just continues to glide along, steadily slowing. On these occasions I have had to pull over to the breakdown lane, nothing in the car responds, changing the gear does nothing, I have to shut the car off to kind of reset it. After a few minutes you can turn the car back on and it runs fine. 2. The display screen for controls, radio, etc. . . Is black. The dealership tells me this is a widespread issue and the replacement radio units are not available. This has been going on for 3 months. No back up camera, no phone connection, no control over the display, nothing. I can't see the temperature or the mode beyond the actual buttons on the dash. At one point the dealership advised that they had received a radio and after waiting all day to get it back they told me it was dead in the box and they have no eta on another one. During the first troubleshoot for the radio, the car was returned to me stuck in spanish or portuguese and they have not been able to get it out of that mode. So I currently get a warning numerous times per day but I have no idea what it's warnign me about, and the odometer is stuck in kilometers. (I truly believe they were bs'ing me about even having it in the first place after all the stringing along and lying they've done. ) as of today, I have no eta on a fix, and neither the dealership or the warranty company is able to provide any information.
I rented a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee at our local airport (monterey, California) and drove it to los angeles and back for a total of about 700 miles over four days. I am an experienced driver and have been working on cars all my adult life. On several occasions, I attempted to the use the cruise control function to set a fixed speed for my journey. In doing so, I would first turn cruise control on, accelerate to the desired speed, then momentarily press the set button, at which point the vehicle would 'remember' my current speed and maintain this speed indefinitely. Nothing unusual about this, and it's how I've used cruise control in multiple cars over the years. Now, as in a lot of cruise control systems, one may use the set button to cause the vehicle to accelerate, instead of pressing on the gas pedal. This is also a common way of doing things. One holds down the set button, the vehicle increases speed, and once the vehicle gets to the desired speed, one releases the button and the current speed is maintained. But not in this Jeep Grand Cherokee. Instead, I found that if I pressed and held down the set button for a few seconds that the vehicle would continue to accelerate long after I had released the set button. For example: traveling at 75 mph, I held the set button for two or three seconds and released it. The vehicle began to accelerate at about two seconds, but continued accelerating for a period of twenty seconds, until I finally stepped on the brake, at which time the vehicle had reached 91 mph. In my run to la and back, I tested the system several times. In the above example, I used my cell phone to make a video recording of the event. I'm glad to share this with NHTSA staff. My general belief is that this is not a one-off defect. It is the way the system is designed to behave, and it's unsafe. There are a few comments on the web pertaining to 2021 & 2022 Jeep products that support what I have said here.
The problem happens intermittently and not all the time. I will be driving on the highway or in the city and sometimes when I barely touch the gas pedal my car will accelerate at high speeds, and the rpm gauge will go all the way into the seven mark and it turns red and it starts beeping and the only way to get that off is for me to let off the gas pedal and come to a stop and then shift it from drive to park and then that’ll usually fix the problem. And other times when I’m on the highway. I will barely touch the gas pedal and it’ll accelerate at high speeds and I’ll have to go from the gas pedal to having to slam my brakes on to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me. A friend of mine who had driven my vehicle, called me and asked me if I noticed that it was doing that as well and I explained to her that I I was aware. I have not taken it to the dealership yet for that problem yet however, I do have an appointment made. I’m just waiting on them to find me a loaner vehicle that will seat my six person family because I cannot drive a different vehicle that does not fit my whole family .
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle independently accelerated at high speeds and the contact lost control of vehicle and drove off the road. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact drove over metal fragments on the roadway causing damages to the front driver’s and passenger’s side tires before the vehicle came to a complete stop. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. The dealer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 11,000.
The vehicle while in cruise set at 70mph accelerated to nearly 90mph and would not disengage even when brake applied, had to turn vehicle off. It has done this twice almost causing an accident. Vehicle has also suddenly applied the brakes very hard while driving approx 55 mph, nothing in front of vehicle. Apparently vehicle was applying the brakes because when we reached home the brake rotors were glowing cherry red. Dealer has looked at it once and said in is probably our pedal getting stuck on the floor mats. I did not have foot on any pedal while in cruise. This last time no check engine light cam on.

Randomly slow to break and accelerate. 10. Average mpg is between 15 and 16 11. Driver's dashboard becomes erratic, and dimly.
We have been without service of the Grand Cherokee l vehicle for nearly 6 of the 11 weeks since we leased the vehicle. The four (4) incidents and ‘repair attempts’ to ‘fix’ the randomly/sudden occurring mechanical and electrical problems were inter-related and causal to the mechanical and electrical blackout troubles. 1. 02/27/23 purchase 2. 03/20/23 631 total miles traveled. Dash board blackout. A. Service dept “reset software”. 3. 03/31/23 912 total miles traveled. Complete dashboard, radio and navigation blackout a. Service dept did not experience random failures, “therefore no repair action was warranted”. 4. 04/01/23 930 total miles traveled. While traveling at approximately 45 mph vehicle suddenly seemed to drop gears - the rpm went from 2k up to 6k, the suddenness of the drop of gears had our seat belts tightening. Pulled the car to the side of the round and car remained at 6k rpm. I turned the car off, waited a few seconds then restarted the vehicle and proceed home. 5. 04/02/23 after starting the car remotely car literally would not get out of automated start mode. I had to turn the vehicle off, wait a couple of minutes before it would start again. In driving the vehicle to the repair shop the power went out of the radio/gps/etc system again. A. Service dept found radio with internal failure. Ordered replacement radio. ” b. On inquiry, service stated the cam bus (software version ‘ag’ was replaced with updated ‘ai’ version. ) 6. 04/26/23 1,051 total miles traveled. On exiting a parking lot, I tried to accelerate into traffic, the rpm increased but with zero forward motion. I pressed the accelerator to the floor, the rpm increased but zero forward motion. I then released the accelerator, the rpm correspondingly decreased - still no forward motion. Then reapplying pressure - slowly to the accelerator - the vehicle began to roll forward but at an exaggerated slow pace. I slowly rolled across the traffic lane and forward "running rough".
