While driving the breaks faultered and I had to slam on the break. I had to press all the way down on the break pedal to slow down or stop. Also when stopped at a light the car turns off and puts itself in park. I had to turn the car off and back on again to fix it. My safety and the safety of others was at risk due to chance of a significant car crash due to faulty break system. I had a near miss accident due to this reason. I will be calling the car dealership to tow the car to have it inspected. The abs light came on as well as check engine light. Service power steering light also came on.
Vehicle previously brought to dealership for recall and reported issue where vehicle abruptly stops/brakes without cause. Dealer did not resolve. On 3/16/26 vehicle came to a complete stop in roadway, shifted into park, and could not be moved into drive, neutral, or reverse. Driver was stranded in a dangerous situation with infant in vehicle. Dealer unable to inspect for weeks and refused loaner. This presents a serious safety hazard.
On February 28, 2026, while preparing to leave our home with our two children in the vehicle, we experienced a critical vehicle malfunction. Upon attempting to start the car, all dashboard warning lights illuminated, including transmission error, “service needed,” and “automatic emergency braking system needs service. ” the battery warning light was also on. The vehicle would not start initially. After eventually starting the car, we temporarily placed it in neutral and pushed it out of the garage, during which the brakes functioned normally. The vehicle was briefly driven and appeared operational, but due to ongoing safety concerns and multiple recalls, we parked it at the top of our driveway. On the following day, the vehicle would not start again. We arranged for it to be towed to the dealership. On March 2, 2026, when the tow truck arrived, the car’s position prevented loading onto the truck. Multiple jump-start attempts failed initially, then briefly started the vehicle, but it immediately shut off again. We placed the vehicle in neutral using the manual override and tested the brakes, which initially showed stiffness but were operational. While attempting to move the vehicle to allow tow truck access, the brakes suddenly failed. Despite pressing the brake pedal fully and brake lights being illuminated, the vehicle did not stop and rolled uncontrollably into our garage. Consequences: •garage property damage: approximately $11,000 •personal injury: my father-in-law fell while the vehicle rolled out of control •vehicle remains at dealership with an open case, but the situation remains unresolved safety concern: this incident raises serious safety concerns regarding the reliability of the braking system and vehicle electronics. The vehicle became uncontrollable while brakes were applied, posing a direct risk of injury or death to occupants and others. We fear that similar failures could occur under normal driving conditions, including highway speeds.
-what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? automatic breaks engaged for no reason. -how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? it could have caused someone to rear end me. -has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no. -has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no -were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no.
- automatic emergency breaking system unavailable - service required alert -blind spot unavailable - service required alert - car was sold with these lights coming on. Dealership told us it was just tightening up some wires. They ended up replacing two modules. After 5 trips to the dealership the service fixed it for approximately 3 days before it came back.

Was driving in a neighborhood and slowly turning at a 4 way stop, parking brake self engaged causing the car to slam to a stop and was unable to press gas. Had to put the car in park and restart (with shutoff for 30 seconds) before I could move and was stuck sitting in the middle of an intersection.
Forward collision system and rear collision system (park sense) are malfunctioning/not operating properly. Dealer stated that it is a "known issue with no known fix. " I had two incidents that almost resulted in accidents before I assumed that the system was not working properly. There a no warning lights or indicators showing faults with the systems.
Monday 4/28, as I was driving at approx. 35-38 mph the vehicle came to an abrupt and hard stop, like someone just pounded on the brakes, the engine ceased running. A large red wrench looking icon and something about the battery flashed very quickly on the screen. After a matter of time (please note this was very frightening,, and am unsure of the elapsed time) the car restarted and I continued very slowly to a corner where I could pull off the road and contact the dealership. At the rate of speed I was traveling I was forcefully slammed into the steering wheel, there were cars behind me and in the adjacent lane. My dog in the rear compartment and in her kennel was also forcefully thrown. This vehicle has had on going battery issues and many others as well. This is not the first report I have filed. Vehicle has been at the dealership for one week, I had to insist upon a loaner which they could not provide. Jeep has a program for a comparable vehicle which they set up and which has not provided a comparable auto. I have had no word from the dealership as to repair and issue found. The ongoing safety issues with this vehicle and it's battery system are totoally unacceptable for me. The Jeep has spent 3. 5 months from 10/14-mid 01/15 parked due to fire or explosion possibility. It has been in the shop repeatedly for up to two weeks at a time with heating and cooling issues. This latest is just another in a long stream of problems unaddressed proprerly by the Jeep corporation. As the vehicle is still in the shop at the dealership I have no items to download at this time.
3 instances of complete loss of power, 1 while driving. Vehicle came to a hard stop as though I had slammed on the brakes. Dealer and Jeep have acknowledged the problem as a known issue. Jeep is saying it's safe to drive, but dealer agrees it is not and is not returning the vehicle to me. All dash lights came in during each instance and gave the error message "service now, hybrid system failure. " summary of the 3 instances below. It has been at the dealer since 5/8/2025. 3/29/25 approx 6pm I was stopped, and the error message came on and vehicle shut off. Attempted to restart approximately five times. Let’s sit for a few minutes, vehicle restarted and all error messages went away. 4/23/25 6:30pm driving at low speed, air messages came on vehicle abruptly stopped, narrowly avoided, getting rear ended, passengers complaint of neck pain. Engine turned on, all error messages immediately went away. 5/6/25 5:35pm error messages came on while driving, engine started, no impact to driving. Error messages went away almost immediately. Jeep s. T. A. R. Case was created.
I have an on going unrepaired recall on the electrical system, charging system and possibly the battery. When apply the brake to start my Jeep the brakes sometimes are locked up and I have to push the start button a few times to release them. I was told that was normal at the dealership.
While driving 25mph, the brakes went out. 2 warning lights came up " service electronic stability control" followed by "service anti-lock brake system" we were able to pull into another lane and still to a stop but vehicle was not responding to brake being floored.
The vehicles dashboard lit up like a christmas tree while driving ( abs, traction control, check engine light) and the brakes virtually not functional. This has now occurred 3 times. After the first occurrence and the abs module being replaced it occurred 17 days later and then stated to be an issue with a software update. 5 days after this occurred again. Booster module replaced. . .
The Jeep will display “power steering unavailable” while driving, causing the steering wheel to lock up and be unable to turn while driving. Then the automatic braking, collision warning, and lane departure will all announce it is unavailable. This has caused us almost to crash multiple times. We took the vehicle to Jeep, they witnessed the power steering fail while driving, and told they can not find any remedy. This has been a daily occurrence since.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 35-45 mph and making a turn, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the dealer had recently informed her that the transmission was leaking, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 46,811.
The automatic emergency braking system activates randomly while driving abruptly stopping the vehicle in traffic. This has happened several times and we no longer feel safe driving. Luckily no one has been behind us when it happens otherwise I feel a crash would be unavoidable. The vehicle has now been to the dealer twice with no repairs made. The techs are always unable to duplicate the concern. Last time this happened my wife was driving around 40mph when the crash warning message flashed and stopped the vehicle. (no one was in the way).
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle was shaking severely, vibrating, and bucking, causing the driver to almost lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle started losing motive power and stalled. During the failure, the "power steering" and "power brake" failure warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The contact stated that the secondary battery was previously replaced due to a failure with starting the vehicle. The failure mileage was 44,000.
I was on my driveway getting ready to park and the parking brake engaged by itself. I came out of the car because I thought I had a flat but once I got back in the car, I saw the brake line was on. I called a friend with the same car and told him what happened. He told me to step on the brake and release the parking brake. I asked him where it was because I've never used it before. I did as he says and released the parking brake. This could have been catastrophic if I was on the freeway or driving on surface streets. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle anymore.
I have towed this vehicle behind my motorhome for the past year and have used a brake buddy system to stop the vehicle should it ever break away from the tow brackets. I used the brake buddy system for 5 years on a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee prior to buying this 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have never had any issues before. Recently, while towing the vehicle, I set it up for towing as Jeep recommends and either had a malfunction of the automatic electronic brakes (aeb) or the brake buddy. Even though the tires never developed a flat spot on them due to dragging the vehicle, there was pressure applied to the brake pedal that caused the brakes to get so hot that the rubber brake lines melted at the fittings or blew out of the fittings causing me to lose all fluid. The nthsa requires that all light-duty vehicles have aeb systems installed on them by 2026. I questioned Jeep as to the cause of my issue and they determined it was not their fault. I contacted brake buddy and they claimed they were just recently made aware of this problem and have since determined their system is not compatible with aeb equipped vehicles. I have talked to several installers that set up tow vehicles to be towed and they are of aware of this. Who has the responsibility to inform the public and industry that there is a problem here? Jeep advertises their vehicle is towable with all 4 wheels on the ground but makes no mention of having to install a state law required braking system in the tow vehicle or potential compatibility issues. Had this tow vehicle come loose, it could have cause damage and potentially the loss of life!.
While driving lost the power brakes making stopping vehicle incredibly difficult having to apply excessive force to brake pedal and shift into neutral to stop. Vehicle could not be driven for service and needed to be towed. If my wife had been driving her car, she would not be able to stop as I (her husband) had to apply leg force as much as I could apply to get vehicle to slow down and had to shift to neutral to stop. We avoided being in an accident but it was very close. Vehicle has been towed for repair and currently do not know what is wrong with the vehicle but it is definitely a safety concern.
Left rear caliper bracket broke on my 2023 Grand Cherokee trailhawk 4xe. The lower caliper bracket bolt was completely loose causing damage to caliper bracket, brake pads, and rotor. Caliper bracket,, pads, and rotor were replaced at dealer as well as items in safety recall 10b.
New vehicle within 30 days of purchase date. Vehicle had just turned a corner and went a few more feet driving approximately 5 mph on a flat asphalt rd. The rear end suddenly shook violently, making loud clunking noises and shut off. Vehicle put itself into park. Tried to restart the car and it would only flash all the warning lights. Tow truck took it to landmark Dodge Jeep in independence, mo. The shop determined right rear rotor broke in half, and caliper broke off. The rotor breaking cracked inside of wheel. No damage to wheel well, fender, under carriage or body of auto in any way. Turned in the issue to Jeep as defective. They refused to fix it stating turn it into auto insurance. We refused to turn into insurance as it is defective parts. We asked Jeep for a black box report. Jeep refused to run it, so we hired a forensic company to take the black box reading which confirms no possible collision incident. Both black box report specialist and landmark repair technicians note defective parts are a serious concern on this auto. This could be a larger issue for Jeep. If rotor had broken at a higher speed would have been very serious situation. We are concerned that other 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners could be at risk. Jeep has still not responded to our escalation request. They keep advising someone will call us, but it has been over 45 days with no assistance from Jeep in any way. Car is still sitting unrepaired awaiting Jeep wave escalation to contact us. We do not know if this situation is solely related to the rotor as it could be a larger issue with the vehicle traction control or drive line. We can provide the semke forensic investigative report findings done by a licensed senior mechanical engineer with NHTSA but ask NHTSA to independently investigate. This is a serious safety concern. Jeep has completely failed to respond or protect us as customers.
My vehicle was stopped for several minutes on an upgrade, with stopped cars in front of me due to a traffic jam. I needed to keep pressure on the brake, lest my car roll backwards. After about three minutes, brake pedal lost pressure and my foot went to floor. The engine then went into gear and my car rammed car in front. Engine stalled on impact and was hard to restart. Vehicle currently at Jeep dealer awaiting inspection from stellantis tech team. This situation reported to their customer care center. No warning lights appeared on dash prior to crash. Indeed, this could have been a more serious accident. I will never trust this vehicle again, and intend to take steps to exit my lease.
I have a 2024 Jeep grand wagoneer. It has been activating it's emergency braking system randomly while driving. One time it was on a road with a 55mph speed limit the car beeped and slammed on the brakes. Morning sunny no traffic car was clean and free of dirt. Second time was on a 2 lane road speed limit 35 day light car beeped and slamed on the brakes the behind me had to go into oncoming lane to avoid hitting me. The 3rd time was after leaving the dealership after the 4th time in for service for them trying to figure out why the truck is doing this. Was on the cross street from the 2nd time. This time it high lighted a mail box in the night-vision mode and slammed on the brakes again day light no traffic car was clean. Mail box wasn't hanging in the road. We opened a case with fca for a buy back they denied it. Fca also has not issued a stop drive order. We are currently using my wife's car to transport the kids as we do not feel comfortable with the issue not being resolved with fca. My wife has the same truck hers is having the same issue but not slamming on the brakes hers is in currently with Jeep engineering and they want us to record the car when it actives the system with our phones while driving. We feel very unsafe driving the cars and is hoping NHTSA can step in with some help. At the end of the day we are both trading our less than 1 yr old trucks in for another brand and is losing around 30,000 between the 2 vehicles.
My emergency braking system doesn’t work and Jeep corporate can’t fix it. The car won’t stop and won’t notify me in an emergency and it’s not safe. The dealer gave me a second Jeep and it has the identical problem. That VIN is 1c4rjkag9p8898184. The dealer also said they have no fix for this issue. Please contact me 914-830-2598 john giannico.
Making left hand turn through 4-way intersection. Car opposite of us also making left hand turn. Our Grand Cherokee collision system thought the two vehicle were going to collide and locked the brakes in the middle of the intersection almost causing a 4 car accident. This is the second time this has happened since purchasing 06/03/23. Driver neck injury sustained. Seeking medical attention. Jeep is currently at the dealership where they are trying to reproduce/diagnose with no success. Multiple online articles found showing complaints of this exact issue proving it's not isolated to our vehicle. . Read more...
While turning left, vehicle hit brakes on its own, driver and two passengers experienced neck pain. Two vehicles behind both screeched to a halt. There is dash cam video, but won’t let me upload.
The vehicle while in cruise set at 70mph accelerated to nearly 90mph and would not disengage even when brake applied, had to turn vehicle off. It has done this twice almost causing an accident. Vehicle has also suddenly applied the brakes very hard while driving approx 55 mph, nothing in front of vehicle. Apparently vehicle was applying the brakes because when we reached home the brake rotors were glowing cherry red. Dealer has looked at it once and said in is probably our pedal getting stuck on the floor mats. I did not have foot on any pedal while in cruise. This last time no check engine light cam on.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that after parking on a inclined hill and activating the electronic parking brake the electronic parking brake would not disengage. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the rear electronic parking brake actuator had failed due to water intrusion. The actuator was replaced but the failure later reoccurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failures but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 17,000.
I took delivery of the vehicle on February 15, 2023. On may 23, 2023 I was driving 35 mph and without warning, I lost power steering and the brakes (felt like bricks when I tried to stop the vehicle). The vehicle never slowed and continued at 35 mph. I had to swerve to not hit other vehicles as I was going through stop lights. I put the car in neutral and it slowed down and then put in park. After about 3-4 attempts of turning off/on, the steering started to work as did the brakes. I drove the . 5 mi down the street with my hazard lights on back to my house. At that point the engine light remained on. The dashboard lit up with numerous alerts (I made sure to take pictures of everything). I called a tow truck and sent pictures to the dealership. They had the car for 2 days, called and said that they cannot duplicate the issue, despite receiving and reviewing the pictures I sent. They said no other option but to pick up the vehicle or let the service tech drive the vehicle overnight to see if the issue could be duplicated.
On four separate incidences, the automatic emergency brake engaged while driving the vehicle at speeds in excess of 30 mph. There was no warning or reason for the emergency brake to engage. This resulted in the car needing to be towed to the dealer on two occasions as the vehicle froze and was not drivable. The dealer states they are unable to diagnose the problem or fix it as there are no codes that populate during the diagnostic session. This is an obvious safety hazard as this is a family vehicle with two small children in the rear seats.
When slowing down at a stop sign, in snowy conditions, the vehicle went into brake assist and locked the brakes up. Causing the vehicle to slide at an interesting and collide with another car. I had complained several times to the dealer about the braking system being to sensitive and touchy before the accident. This was purchased new and the accident happened about 1800 miles on it. Also, the air bag did not deploy. I was told by the dealer, it was because the impact was not hard enough. But the alerts on my phone, said air bag failure since the accident, I have had this Jeep back to the dealer several times. I asked for a full brake inspection, because I have never driven a vehicle that 1- brakes for you for no reason, 2- extremely touchy. The dealer service dept admitted the brakes were touchy, and drove an identical model to compare, and concluded that it must be normal. Didnt actually inspect them. It is not normal, and I do not feel safe driving this vehicle in the winter. I have since turned off all brake assist options in the settings, but it is still auto braking. Today at about 3000 miles, when slowing down to make a turn, the emergency braking system started acting up with no one close to me. There is something very wrong with this system, and needs to be addressed before serious injuries happen.
