Rear sunroof glass imploded spontaneously and shattered while driving.
I am filing a safety complaint regarding serious and recurring issues with my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee that create unsafe driving conditions. Shortly after purchasing the vehicle, I began experiencing intermittent electrical malfunctions while driving. Without warning, multiple dashboard warning lights and signals activate simultaneously. During these events, I lose confidence in the vehicle’s reliability and safety, as it is unclear whether critical systems are affected. On at least one occasion, the issue forced me to pull over to the side of the road due to safety concerns. The vehicle would not return to normal operation immediately, and I had to repeatedly turn the vehicle off and on for approximately 20 minutes before it reset. In addition, the check engine light has been on for a significant portion of the time since I purchased the vehicle. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership multiple times, but the issue has not been permanently resolved. I am also concerned about multiple safety recalls affecting this vehicle. Some of these recalls currently have no available remedy, which increases the risk and leaves me driving a vehicle that may have known safety defects without a fix. These ongoing issues pose a serious safety risk to me and others on the road. I am requesting that this matter be investigated, and that appropriate action be taken to address these defects. Is it possible to switch to another safe Jeep model?.
The factory-installed trailer tow module in my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee keeps shutting down the lights in my horse trailer while on the road. The trailer lights been thoroughly inspected and no problem with the lights or wiring could be found. The Jeep dealer said the Jeep is "functioning as designed. " apparently, it is designed to shut down all the trailer lights at the most minor change in the current. It is a huge safety issue for me, my horse and anyone that may be behind us. I will be driving along and a "check trailer lights" message comes on - when that happens, I know I have no trailer lights because the Jeep has shut them down. The lights will not go back on until the car reboots, which means it has to be turned off for 15 minutes or so.
My vehicle has an open safety recall (NHTSA recall 25v-766 / fca campaign 78c) stating the engine may be contaminated with sand from the casting process, which can cause catastrophic engine failure, fire, or sudden loss of propulsion. The recall has been active since November 2025 and the manufacturer states parts are unavailable, so the defect cannot currently be repaired.
I have a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I purchased July 19, 2024. I started having operational problems with the vehicle within two months. The car was in and out of the dealership five times through Nov. 2025. Each time the problem was verified by the service department and documented as such, including an incident of the engine shutting down when entering the expressway. I filed a lemon law claim September 2025, and settled December 2025. However, no reimbursement has been received. On Feb. 15, 2026, my car shut down completely as I was exiting a belt driven car wash, resulting in crashes of two vehicles in back of me. I had no control of shifting gears to move forward.
On multiple occasions my vehicle has not recognized the key fob when I have been at the vehicle. I have actually been standing by it trying to open the door and it would not respond. Even if I was holding the key fob in my hand next to the door it would not respond. I would have to manually push the unlock button on the fob to be able to enter. This has caused me personal safety concerns when in unfavorable situations and I could not immediately gain access to the interior of my vehicle. The memor seat and easy exit functions have repeatedly failed to operate as they should causing me to be out of position when driving requiring manual resetting of the position. The heads up display consistently shows the incorrect speed limit. Google maps and carplay intermittently become disconnected while I am driving creating a safety hazard when I am using google maps guidance. The date below is simply the most recent time these happened. Again, these have happened repeatedly over the period of ownership.
Component failure: this vehicle has suffered a recurring "loss of motive power" (lmp) while in motion. On [xxx], for the third time, the internal combustion engine shut off completely while the vehicle was being driven in traffic. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: this incident occurred on a public road in new york during a severe winter storm with over a foot of snow on the ground. There were two children in the vehicle. The sudden loss of propulsion in heavy traffic and hazardous weather conditions created an immediate risk of a rear-end collision and left my family stranded without power or heat in freezing temperatures. Confirmation & inspection: this is a documented, repeat failure. The manufacturer has confirmed the defect previously and even reimbursed me for a prior repair attempt. However, the issue remains unresolved. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Jeep dealer during previous failures, but the "remedy" provided was ineffective. I am currently awaiting a new inspection for this third occurrence. Symptoms & warnings: prior to the total engine shutdown, the malfunction indicator lamp (mil) illuminated on the dashboard. In previous instances, the manufacturer cited software errors or internal contamination as the cause. I suspect this is related to existing NHTSA recall 25v-766 (engine sand contamination) or recall 25v-710 (hybrid control software failure). Additional context: despite the life-threatening nature of this repeat defect, the local dealership refused to provide a loaner vehicle, and the manufacturer (Jeep wave) is refusing to fully cover the cost of a rental vehicle. I am currently paying out-of-pocket interest on delayed reimbursements from the manufacturer. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Reference prior recall 68c/NHTSA 25v-741. Had Jeep serviced for this recall. Was advised the vehicle passed the software update. Noticing that when the vehicle is in electric mode there is a loss of power when the % range is at the halfway mark. This was a prior issue as well with recall, 73c/NHTSA 25v-576. No point in taking me to a Jeep dealership to review. They will not do anything unless there is a specific software associated with the issue. Wanted to make note that the issue per my personal vehicle does not appear to be resolved. There is no public correspondence as to what Jeep is rectifying with the battery manufacture. Reporting that this continues to be a dangerous issue.
I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe (plug-in hybrid), VIN: 1c4rjyb69rc714841, due to repeated loss of propulsion events while driving, including during highway merging. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has: shifted into neutral without any driver input and failed to accelerate while merging onto a highway, behaving as though it was stuck in a gear or in a protective failsafe state most recently, while accelerating onto a highway, the vehicle would not respond to the accelerator pedal, forcing me to pull off the roadway. I had to place the vehicle into park, wait briefly, and then resume driving in order to restore propulsion. Twice I had to perform this on the on ramp. Very dangerous! these are the most recent incidents that have occurred, but the issue has happened at least half a dozen times before. Only now, more often. While driving in hybrid mode (on January 17th, 18th with my daughter present; also occurred on Jan 22 (after leaving Jeep dealer and having performed tcm & pcm updates), Jan. 23 & 24) with the hybrid battery depleted (normal operating condition) with no warning lights, alerts, or messages displayed before or during the events the vehicle was taken to an authorized Jeep dealership (safford brown in sterling, va), where pcm and tcm software updates were completed, and the dealer reported “no issues found. ” despite this, the loss of propulsion issue has continued to occur. This condition presents a serious safety risk, particularly during highway merging and acceleration, where the inability to accelerate could result in a collision. The issue appears to be intermittent and does not consistently trigger fault codes or warning indicators. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue for potential investigation, as it involves unexpected loss of drive power while the vehicle is in motion. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, danette spruston.
I just recently purchased my vehicle through mears Mazda locally in lubbock, TX. At first I did not notice how unsafe it drove due to the recalls. The more I drive the vehicle I notice it feels like there is a resistance in braking or slowing down and getting stuck in certain gears when I am going at a lower speed below 20 mph. It causes concern for me if I am driving in a bigger city or in a traffic jam as this could possibly cause a major accident if a malfunction occurs with the vehicle causing me to cause a multiple vehicle collision on a highway or street. I did ask the dealership prior to signing " are there any issues known with this model type of Jeep or recalls?" they simply stated no. I have told them that since I had just recently signed my paperwork Friday and trading in my prior vehicle would it be possible to reverse everything, he stated no. I do not know the laws in texas or if there is an alternate route I can go about this due to it being a safety issue. When I've contacted Jeep there is yet a remedy to fix this issue.
Recall 25v-741 (manufacturer recall 68c) affects my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. The recall notice states that, due to potential high-voltage battery cell separator damage, the vehicle may catch fire even when powered off. Jeep instructs owners not to charge the vehicle and not to park inside garages or near structures. There is no remedy available, and Jeep has stated that remedy identification may not occur until q1 2026, with additional delays expected for parts and repairs. As a result of these instructions, I am unable to store the vehicle safely at my home, since my residence only has attached garage parking. My workplace garage has also prohibited these recalled vehicles from entering due to fire risk. The vehicle is currently kept at the dealership because it cannot be safely stored. Jeep’s interim support is insufficient. They offer only $60/day rental reimbursement, which does not cover a comparable vehicle, and only $50 per rental period in taxes, leaving owners with significant out-of-pocket costs while their leased vehicles cannot be used for an extended period. This places owners in the position of either paying significant out-of-pocket expenses for an unsuitable rental vehicle, or continuing to park, store, or charge their vehicles in ways that contradict Jeep’s fire-risk guidance. While the recall is not labeled as a “stop drive,” the instructions functionally prevent safe use or storage of the vehicle. I am reporting this because the current interim guidance and lack of remedy create ongoing fire risk and practical safety issues for owners with no safe place to store the vehicle and no adequate interim solution.
My vehicle is affected by recall 25v-741 (fca recall 68c), which involves a risk of high-voltage battery fire due to potential internal separator damage. Fca’s NHTSA filing instructs owners to refrain from recharging the battery and to park the vehicle away from structures or other vehicles until a remedy is available. The recall remedy is not available. Fca customer care advised me by phone that the vehicle is “safe to drive in e-save mode unless symptoms appear,” which contradicts the recall notice because the defect can cause a fire without warning or symptoms. This vehicle automatically recharges the high-voltage battery through regenerative braking and engine charging, making it impossible to comply with the instruction to “refrain from recharging. ” during another discussion, a technician also told me that the “stop sale has nothing to do with the safety of the vehicle” and advised me to “drive normally. ” when I asked about the prior cases where vehicles covered by this recall had caught fire, the technician replied, “well, they’re still around, right?” this guidance minimizes the documented fire risk and contradicts the official recall filings. The vehicle cannot be safely used or stored under normal conditions, and no interim solution or transportation has been provided. The dealer stated they were instructed by the manufacturer’s warranty team not to assist and reiterated that no remedy exists. I am reporting the unsafe and contradictory guidance from the manufacturer and the inability to safely use the vehicle while the recall remains unresolved.
On 11/1/2025 my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe lost propulsion in a middle of a left turn do to a recall that was sent to me 4 days prior. The Jeep completely stopped and caused another person to rear end me. The recall has since been fixed but my damages have not yet been fixed. I was in an accident due to this Jeep recall and I now have damage to my vehicle and a ticket from the police for stopping in the middle of an intersection. I opened a case with Jeep customer care 2 weeks ago and haven’t since received any update. I need assistance because nobody is taking accountability or fixing anything.
I am writing to outline my urgent concerns regarding the 78c recall affecting the 2023–2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and 2024–2025 wrangler 4xe suvs. This recall was initiated due to a manufacturing defect where casting sand remains in the 2. 0l engine, presenting a risk of catastrophic engine failure, sudden power loss, or fire. The potential for engine fire or unexpected power loss represents a significant safety risk to my family. The possibility of fire, even when the vehicle is parked and not in use, puts my home and neighboring properties in danger. This risk is especially heightened during colorado’s wildfire season, when any vehicle fire could quickly escalate into a larger disaster. Due to the recall, I am unable to use the vehicle as intended under the terms of my lease agreement. I cannot safely operate or charge the vehicle. Furthermore, the requirement to park the vehicle outside does not eliminate the risk of fire, which continues to threaten my property and those nearby. There is currently no available repair or remedy for this defect. As a result, the vehicle is unusable for an indefinite period of time. Given the unresolved safety hazards, inability to use the vehicle, and lack of a repair solution, I formally request that you initiate a buy back of my affected vehicle. This action is necessary to ensure my family’s safety and to resolve the ongoing hardship caused by this recall.
I am filing a complaint regarding my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, which currently has a high-voltage battery fire-risk recall with no remedy available. This recall states the vehicle should not be parked in garages or near structures due to fire risk. This makes the vehicle unsafe to use as intended. My vehicle has also experienced four total recalls, repeated check-engine warnings, and it was in the service department recently (within the last week) with no mention of the battery recall and no resolution for the ongoing issues. I have attempted to contact my dealership (fred beans Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, doylestown, PA) and the general manager but have received no response for over a week regarding options for a safe loaner vehicle or next steps. The lack of remedy, the safety risk of fire, the inability to safely park or charge the vehicle, and the dealership’s failure to respond place my family at risk and leave the vehicle effectively unusable. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in documenting and escalating this unresolved and hazardous situation.
Driving on highway( no other cars or overpass in area) and sunroof on 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee exploded. Sounded like a shotgun going off, then loud flapping sound . Fortunately the sun visor was closed or the shattered glass would have caused serious injury to driver & passengers, and could have resulted in serious or even fatal accident. The noise of the explosion scares you & could cause you to have an accident, especially if the sun viser over the sunroof had not been closed. Caused me to have to get to side of road in a construction area at night, not a safe situation. Reported to dealer next morning, were told Chrysler would have to review to see if covered. This vehicle is less than 1 yr old! no warning and no previous problems with sunroof.
Commands to open or close tailgate do not work. E. G. Driver assumes is tailgate has closed but self-reopens and in one case dogs were ejected from moving vehicle. A vehicle could not be repaired by Jeep dealership.
Late last year I reported that while towing a trailer, the dash indicated that the trailer had disconnected from the trailer as looking back I noticed the lights were off when the vehicle lights were on. Before I could pull over to check the connection, the lights turned back on and the warning light extinguished. This happened 3 times when towing the trailer that day. The dealership "reprogrammed" the module and said it was good. But after the latest recall for the wagoneer, having it recalled, I wanted to notify someone about the potential for expanding the vehicles included in the recall.
Emergency electric brake system has set up a number of times on its own always when it was parked. I was towing the car behind a motorhome ,it is 2024 Grand Cherokee Jeep summit with approximately 6600 miles on it ,the electric emergency break system set up going down the road at 50 mile an hour behind the motorhome. The motorhome has 650 hp engine. I didn’t even feel the brakes set up on the car. I saw a lot of smoke behind the motorhome . I pulled over and it turned out the electric brake set and I couldn’t get it to release. I called the dealer where I bought it to see if they could tell me how to release it. They referred me to Jeep, I thought sure that they’d have someone but they referred me to a Jeep dealer in santa fe, new mexico the dealership had a tow CO haul it to the dealership and told me tow ins were 3 to 4 weeks out before they could get in and look at them . After a month and they had not looked at it I had it hauled to mike shaw Jeep where I bought it. My concern is that had I been driving that car on interstate highways in colorado 75 mph or states where it’s 85 miles an hour and the brake set up I’m going to be in the ditch or in the front of another vehicle killing my self and family or someone else family. This Jeep needs to be taken off the road before someone is killed. I refuse to drive it. Or let a family member drive it. Have had no satisfaction from Jeep dealers. I had to have a car to drive so I had to spend another $60,000 for a car. .
My Jeep is a 2024, with just about 12,000 miles. On Monday, may 5, 2025. My air conditioner stopped working. It was only blowing out warm air. Now I’m told there’s some kind of ac leak and it will take 2-5 days for parks and a full day to repair. After reading reviews. This is a known issue with 2022 Jeeps. This needs to be an issue with 2024. This is my 3rd Jeep and I’ve never had issues like this.
I was changing my right rear tire due to a nail on a slight slope in my driveway and I had a roll away incident. The top of my driveway is a slight slope and then changes to fairly steep. My vehicle rolled off of my jack and jack stand and continued into the street. Fortunately there was no damage other than extreme stress.
We aren't sure what happened exactly. We drove the car 10 minutes from my house to my work, and it started smoking when she parked. The car eventually caught fire and was completely destroyed, including damage to the structure it was parked next to. Usaa has the car currently. My safety was put at risk because the car spontaneously caught fire and burned itself, and nearly burned the structure. There is no way to replicate the problem, as it's a slab of melted metal and plastic. The insurance company currently has the car. I don't know if the manufacturer has inpsected it. There were no warning lights prior to it catching fire after being parked. There was a recall associated with the batteries in these Jeeps, but our battery was not part of the recall. It seems the recall should have probably included my car, but it didn't.
On January 6, 2025, one week after picking up the new vehicle from the car dealers lot I was driving on the merritt parkway when suddenly the aeb light came on and then the traction control and engine light. The vehicle quickly lost power and even with my foot pressed fully on the gas pedal, it would not accelerate and slowed to 20 mph within seconds. Fortunately, there was no car behind me, and I was able to coast into a rest stop. If there were a vehicle behind me, it probably would’ve crashed into me when my car quickly decelerated. I turned off the car and then restarted it. I was able to drive it 3 more miles and it happened again. I pulled onto the shoulder, turned the car off and restarted it a 2nd time.
The catalytic converter had to be replaced after 3000 miles. Vehicle was purchased in September and it had to be replaced in December. Had to take vehicle in twice for them to diagnose the problem.
It failed to shift out of low gear while merging onto the highway and the engine revved up to 6000 rpm as a result. I read that this is happening to other owners and the dealerships are unable to locate the problem. This is the first time that this happened to me, but from what I've read it will happen again. I'm afraid that the engine or transmission might blow up injuring me or or another vehicle next to me on the highway. I'm also afraid that if something does fail that it might cause me to lose control of the vehicle. I currently have a call into the dealership, but with what others have stated online, the dealerships have not been helpful in isolating the problem. There was no indication of any type (lamps or messages) that there was a problem.
The entire vehicle failed with a no start issue. The vehicle will not wake up, can not jump off. My safety is being stranded without a workable vehicle. No the problem has not been resolved after being towed into service to the dealer twice. The star engineers got involved this last time but asked the service center to release the vehicle to me because they could not replicate the issue. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms to indicate a problem with the vehicle/engine/electronic system, the vehicle is just simply dead.
I want to make sure my vehicle is not part of the others that have a software malfunction affecting the battery resulting in fire.
Screen displays blank and striped.
Fca pushed an involuntary software update to our car on August 6, 2024. It completed about 75% of the update and froze, rendering our display and systems unusable. Our back-up camera only works intermittently as does many of the adas safety features. We have no temperature controls or radio either. We have been to the dealer multiple times and they are being told by fca that the entire unit needs to be replaced. A search of social media (reddit) shows that others may be having the same safety issue. The dealer says they have had four more incidents come into their shop.
1. Unknown - clunking noise in front driver side. May be related to “part 573 safety recall” with the pinch bolt. Experiencing similar issues as described in this recall report. 2. Unknown - intermittent failure of the “active lane management” system. System will stop working and become unavailable while driving. 3. Unknown - cylinder 3 injector circuit failure. Intermittent issue. Check engine light activates and is on for a couple days then goes off. Error code: p02f0.
While I was driving the panoramic sunroof shattered. The vehicle did not sustain any damage from any foreign object. There was a loud noise like an explosion coming from the top of the vehicle and then I heard a rattling sound. When I opened the sunshade I seen the panoramic glass was shattered. There wasn’t other vehicles or debris around me when this happened.
Second time the ignition module has failed, leaving myself, husband and 3 dogs stranded over an hour from home. Vehicle would not start or recognize the key fob. The vehicle has had to be flatbed towed twice in the 5 months of owning it for the same issue.
Vehicle does not start consistently and when it does it shows reading of “key fob has left the vehicle” when key fob is actually in the car. Car has been towed and would not start. Dealer duplicated this issue and stellantis says currently no fix. I just park in my garage and hoping they will do the right thing and repurchase and replace my vehicle.
We have an unknown problem with a clunking/creaking noise while driving the vehicle we believe is coming from the front of the vehicle, possibly the suspension or steering. We are not sure we feel safe driving the vehicle since after taking it to the dealer three times in the past year, the dealer acknowledges the clunking but has not been able to identify and fix the issue. We have been told by the dealer it is safe to drive - but if they can't identify and fix the issue - how do they know that to be the case? without being able to identify the cause of the noise and whatever resulting unusual wear and tear, will we have a catastrophic steering or suspension failure while driving the vehicle? our 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe trailhawk, (purchased new) has an "air" suspension - not sure if it's an option or standard on the trailhawk models. We have had it in to the dealer three times for this issue - this last time the dealer had the truck for 16 plus weeks. The front stabilizer bar has been replaced multiple times, the upper and lower control arms have all been replaced, all four air shocks have been replaced, and a mounting bracket replaced. The dealer told us they opened a star case with Jeep and the Jeep engineer has been on-site to examine the vehicle. After the engineer requested three different fixes that did not fix the problem, the dealer returned the vehicle and stated they are aware the issue persists and the Jeep engineering group is working on a resolution (even though they no longer have the vehicle in their possession to test solutions). They will notify us when a repair is available.
This is a followup to complaints 11574396 & 11574483. I was advised by service that the vehicle passed an inspection and it was ready for pickup. I went to the service department to pick up the vehicle. The service manager advised me that the vehicle was properly wired, and that he believed the problems that I have experienced were resolved through software updates. He also advised me that he believed the issue of the vehicle not accelerating past 29 mph was due to the vehicle being placed into manual mode through the vehicle's paddle shifters, because 29 mph is the limitation for 1st gear. I advised him that I never used the paddle shifters, but he insisted that I must have hit them by accident. He also advised me that in the event the vehicle enters manual mode, I can exit that mode by holding down the right paddle. I took back possession of the vehicle and began to drive home. I did not even make it half a mile before the vehicle once again began to experience serious malfunctions. The engine once again shut off while driving. I pulled onto the swale. Once again, the "d" was blinking on both the shifter knob and the driver info panel screen. There were numerous error messages and icons displayed. This included the check engine light, battery warning light, check hybrid electrical system light and warning (wrench with lightning bolt), and service electronic stability control warning. The vehicle also stated that the auto emergency braking system was engaged in active braking, despite the fact I was not near any other vehicle or object. There were other warning messages that displayed but that cycled through too quickly for me to read or photograph them. After restarting the car, once again, the vehicle would not accelerate past 29 mph. The screen showed the vehicle was in manual mode, in 1st gear. I could not return to manual mode. The service manager has indicated that engineering technicians must be brought in.
