When attempting to start the vehicle, I heard one click and nothing happened. Lights and gauges worked, but nothing else. Jeep was jumped and then started right up. It went two months and is now doing the same again. Within a week, it has done it 3 times. Battery replaced and starter checks out fine. Also gauges dim and then come back on within seconds. The alarm goes off whenever it feels like it. Doors sometimes will not unlock with the fob which sets the alarm off. Nav system only works when it feels like it. Low setting on heater doesn't work. This lemon needs recalled!!!.
When the problem started, approximately 7 months ago, the vehicle would stall when I was slowing for a turn or a stop. It happens intermittently. Fuel filter, fuel pump, tps, ecm, etc. Have all been changed, and the problem keeps coming back. Lately the vehicle stalls at driving speeds, as well as when slowing. I have been nearly rear ended so many times I can't even count. The stalling is always intermittent, but seems that it happens most frequently when I am on short trips of around 5 miles. I will get to the store and it will stall while I am entering the parking lot, I start it back up and get into a parking space, shop and return to my car, which stalls again as I am backing out, shifting from reverse to drive. Then as I leave the parking lot it may stall again, and then again on my way home while driving between 25-40 mph. It is getting increasingly harder to restart. I have noticed many Jeep Grand Cherokee forums online where this same complaint comes up over and over. This seems to be a very wide spread problem and nobody seems to have a remedy that works. Many people throw money into parts just guessing at what the problem may be. It seems quite unsafe, not only for the drivers of the Jeep gcs, but for the people bound to rear end us.
My issue is with the a/c evaporator in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. After driving for about 3 hours on the road with the a/c in use the evaporator freezes up and air stops blowing out of the vents. I can still hear the a/c working but nothing blows out. I took my car to the dealership and they told me Chrysler is aware of the ongoing and reoccurring problem but has determined that they are not going to fix it. They recommended that I just use the a/c on a warmer setting or turn it off after it freezes up and wait a while for it to thaw out. I believe this is an unacceptable fix for a problem that I have and that should be covered under my warranty. I know other people with Chrysler vehicles that have the same exact issue. This can be very dangerous when you are on a road trip in the south in heats of 100+ degrees especially when you plan to ride in a car with functional a/c. I can start my vehicle after it's sat overnight. But I go anywhere from 1 mile to 100 miles in it & once I turn the vehicle off it won't restart for an hour to 6 hours. I've spoken with many people regarding this problem and it seems to be a common issue with Jeeps. I'd like to know what is causing this exactly. Broken interior door handles (driver and front passenger) and cannot open the doors from inside. I found many compliants online with similar problem. I am very concerned an accident can occur and we would be trapped because the doors cannot be opened from the inside.
The interior door handle on the drivers side front started to get hair line cracks in it. It is cracking more and more with use. At some point the handle will come apart and I will not be able to get out of my car. I asked the dealer about a repair and they want $800. 00 to replace the whole door panel. It appears this will happen with the other doors as well. There are after market repair kits, but after researching and finding that this is a cronic problem with the handles, I believe Jeep should replace or repair them for free.
The vehicle on numerous occasions dies out while moving causing the car to stop abruptly and also dies at stops. The issue is intermittent and despite numerous repair attempts replacing the following throttle body gasket cam sensor crank sensor trans fluid and filter egr valve the condition remains, it should also be noted that numerous other Jeep Grand Cherokees (body designation wk) have had this issue and no repairs have been successful.

Yesterday, 5 Jan 12, as I approached a stop light I removed my foot from the gas and applied the brakes. The vehicle did not slow down as expected. It was as if the engine was fignting me. I put the car into neutral and the rpms shot up to about 5000 and then went back down. The cruise control was not engaged and my foot was on the brake, not on the gas. Today, as I was coasting towards an intersection, foot off the gas, I stepped on the brake and again the engine reved up causing me to have to press very hard on the brake to stop. After no more than one or two seconds the problem disapeared. This could easily cause a serious accident.
Inside door handles are breaking making exiting the Jeep hard.
A car wash attendant proceeded to enter the customer's 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee to dry it down after it rolled off our insured's car wash track. The vehicle was in neutral. He placed his foot on the brake and started up the Jeep. He put the Jeep into drive. The engine revved up really high and took off. The Jeep lurched ahead striking the closed overhead car wash door. Physical damage to the door and the customer's vehicle resulted. The customer's vehicle was totalled. Employee is certain he did not place his foot on the accelerator. Requesting action be taken to avoid bodily harm and more property damage from occurring in the future.
Interior door handle drivers side door does not open door. The dealer tells me the whole door panel has to be replaced. Cost is $700 just for the panel. This is a problem that seems to happen to a lot of Jeep owners.
I was going approximately 20-25 approaching a signal light. I let off the gas and applied the brake as the light was red. As I let off the gas, the engine began to rev higher and as I applied the brake I had to apply it harder and harder as the engine continued to rev even higher. I began to smell the brakes burning as they tried to hold the car back. Fortunately I had the foresight to put the car in neutral. It continued to rev for about 5 seconds and then went down to normal. It has happened once. No warning lights went on. The dealer said that they contacted the detroit technical bureau and they suggested that maybe it was the floor mat, or my foot, etc, etc but claimed they had no other reports of this occurring. I don't have carpets as I opted for the rubber mats and they sit tight to the floor. And my foot was not stuck on the gas. I was conscious of the fact that my foot was on the brake and not the gas as I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on. They said they drove it and did computer checks and had no explanation. The service rep said the response from the technical bureau would be "insulting to me". The dealer was bradshaw Jeep in watertown, CT and the service rep was victor. I wrote this out on the service order and kept a copy.
While I was driving home last night 12/16/11 with my fiancee we stopped at a traffic light, and when the light turned green the Jeep started back up fine all except it couldn't go faster than 20 miles per hour. So I put my flashers on and the traffic behind me went around us, then it worked itself out, but did it again when I came to another traffic light. But this time I was able to use my manual shift to help it. No warning lights came on. And I just purchased this Jeep 2 days ago. I would like to get this safety issue fixed since I have seen that this is a dangerous and common problem with the other 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokees. I am also a firefighter and I depend on this Jeep to get me to fire scenes and other emergency scenes, and I don't want to be in an emergency scene involving me due to the safety issues this Jeep is having. Can someone please do a recall and have this issue fixed.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee interior door panels are defective . The handles are all plastic and they all break off from the door panel. This is a very unsafe problem that could cost a life if the person reaches for the handle to get out of the car and cannot. They need to make this a recall and issue parts to replace this for free for owners of the Jeeps.
We purchased a new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee 11/23/2011. The car had 308 miles on odometer. On 11/25/2011 as we were going out of town the vehicle's diagnostic (obd ii) system warning appeared, with a symbol "mil" indicating a malfunction indicator light. I checked the fuel tank cap and it was tight, I drove the vehicle to the nearest Chrysler/Jeep dealership in hamptonroads, va. The service department checked out the problem and determined it to be a # 6 cylinder, misfire-coil failure. None were available for replacement. The service department person stated that it was ok to drive the vehicle locally but suggested it would not be a good idea to drive it out of town, as it would not get very good gas mileage! we started to drive the vehicle home, however; approximately 2 miles after we departed the Jeep dealership the vehicle caught a fire and burned the entire engine compartment/front of vehicle. We, my wife and I escaped without phsyical harm, but had to stand by and watch it burn until the firedepartment arrived.
Hemi motor stalled, back-fired, caught fire in engine compartment and lost control of steering. Vehicle accelerated and left the road and flipped onto six cars in parking lot. At that point inside of vehicle caught fire. Passengers were a 5 year old boy and the driver was a 63 year old male. Seven vehicles were destroyed in this accident.
3 of the interior door knobs have broken off on this vehicle. What if I had passengers and was involved in a wreck? no one would be able to get out! I am not the only one experiencing this problem. . . It is all over the internet. The front passenger and both rear interior door handles have broken off. There is no way to exit the vehicle in case of an emergency! I have found on the internet that this is a common occurence but I haven't found out what the company is offering for a fix. This is an obvious manufacturers defect considering that all three of them broke within days of one another.
I purchased a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee limited in 2008. Almost from the very beginning I've had problems with this vehicle & had been going back & forth to the dealership for one repair after the other. Although the previous issues were serious, they did not rise to the level of being a health/safety hazard as my current problem does. In 2011, I started experiencing intermittent electrical failure; specifically, the vehicle would just stop no matter whether I was driving 70 on the hwy or 30 in a neighborhood. The vehicle would turn off without warning & I would be left trying (w/out any power steering) to coast to the side of the road with whatever momentum was left. Once to the side of the road, I put the vehicle in park, turned the ignition to the off position & wait a few seconds. I would then start the vehicle right up as if nothing had happened. I have taken the Jeep in to the dealer where the problem could not be duplicated. I've gotten to the point where each time it stops, I call the dealer service dept just so the record would show that I called, reported the problem had occurred again & also to vent my frustration of this recurring problem. My concerns: 1) the stalling is happening more frequently 2) the problem can't be duplicated on cue 3) I can't get more than a condescending, what do you want tone from mgmt at the dealership & 4) there does not seem to be any sense of urgency from anyone other than myself . My questions: does there really have to be some type of accident or fatality before someone actually tries to find out why this is happening & fix it? why aren't the service people equipped to do more than just speak to the vehicle owner as if we are stupid & like I'm just making up stories. Although they haven't been able to duplicate the problem, is there truly someone trying to find out what the problem is? who do I need to contact?.
Owned the 07 Jeep for 5 months. Vehicle has been serviced for 2 different incidents. The 1st incindent(actually happened several times) is when the vehicle would not shift during acceleration and it would force me to the side of the road where I would have to turn the vehicle on and off until it would run correctly. Was told by dealership service that it was a transmission sensor,had the part replaced-not covered by warranty. Less then 3 weeks later, 2nd incident occured when I was driving 55mph down the interstate while acclerating to get over to an exit, the vehicle threw itself back into 2nd gear and I was forced to get over into the emergency lane so as not to be struck by oncoming traffic. The Jeep had almost come to a complete stop in traffic! check engine light came on and went off after that. Dealership states the gear ratio and valve cover forced the vehicle into 2nd gear. Very dangerous!.
All 4 interior door handles broken or cracked and about to break off completely. Major safety hazard - unable to open/operate doors from the inside in case of accident or emergency. I have a 2006 Jeep cherokee laredo and 3 out of 4 interior door handles are completely broken. I even have an extended warranty that is supposed to cover everything but was told by the dealership that "trim" is not covered. How are interior door handles considered trim? I was told that the entire door panel would have to be replaced at $400. 00 each. This is not a cosmetic issue but a safety issue. The doors will not open from the inside. I am very afraid of getting into a car crash and my children not being able to exit the vehicle. I have read many, many stories of the exact same problem with these door handles. There should be a recall by daimlerchrysler.
Interior door handles have cracked and broken causing the handle to be completely unusable from the inside of the vehicle. Driver has to open window and access the exterior door handle to open the door. Back seat passengers are unable to get out without exterior assistance. This a safety concern as the passengers may not be able to exit the vehicle easily in case of an accident.
I purchased this Jeep in Dec of ;ast year. Slowly but surely the plastic component that houses the interior door handle has cracked, with pieces falling out. Now on the right side rear door the handle has fallen out because the plastic has completely failed. The other three plastic pieces are also all cracking with handles already getting loose. If there were an emegency situation, it is not possible to exit vehicle via the rear door. I am afraid that in due time the other handles will fall out.
Interior door latch on rear drivers side door completely broke off and drivers side front door latch beginning to crack around plastic and incur same problem. This is a huge safety issue in case of accident or fire one would be trapped inside vehicle unable to exit presumably dying from injuries. This is an obvious on going problem with the Jeep cherokee and I feel Chrysler needs to own responsibility for this and incur the expense of all repairs.
Inside door handles start to break at the plastic housing where the handle attach to. Two doors are broken and unusable at the moment. Passengers can't exit the vehicle which pose a big security risk. This is a common problem on Jeep Grand Cherokee and should be fixed for free by the manufacturer. Inside door handle plastic is broken in one door and cracked in two others. Once this plastic breaks the inside door handles fall out rendering the door inoperable from the inside. In an accident there is no way to get out through the door unless you break a window and reach the outside handle. From the research I have done online it appears that this is a common issue with these vehicles. Jeep does not sell this assembly seperately. It is only available by purchasing an entire door panel at a cost of five hundred per rear door handle and six hundred plus per front and this does not include installation.
I purchased my pre-owned 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4x4 less than a month ago. I have had 4 instances of it not cranking. I took it back to the dealership where they replaced two sensors and reprogrammed the computer. I got my car back on Friday. Today is Monday and it isn't cranking again. All electrical accessories work fine but the car will not crank. The battery, alternator, and starter tested fine. The suspension makes a god- awful squawking sound every time I drive anywhere.
Failed to start on 2 occasions 8/10/11 & 8/17/11. All electrical components working; battery recently replaced.
2004 Grand Cherokee special edition. Sticking gas pedal, both acceleration and to accelerate. Today my gas pedal stuck wide open full throttle. I had to press as hard as possible on brakes . . . Car dis not completely stop until I threw the moving vehicle into park and turn the key off. It remained stuck wide open for approximately 10 minutes and then unstuck. I had 4 children in the car and luckily this happened on an empty wide open road. This could gave been a catastrophic event with many injuries.
Driving at various speeds, most often approaching a stop the vehicle will shut off leaving no power systems. This has occurred at higher speeds and has almost caused an accident in one case. Vehicle starts up immediately after occurrence. Called the dealership who is aware of this occurring with this model and year but states it probably will be unable to diagnose if the vehicle is not towed from point of occurrence. Dealer stated they could try to replicate the problem by driving it around??? I told him you might be driving for quite some time. I don't want my wife operate the car. As a retired state trooper I am experienced in operating vehicles under hazardous conditions but don't like the idea of having to drive this vehicle until and issue occurs. It is just a mater of time until there is a serious accident. Numerous people have reported this both by NHTSA complaint and different forums.
Window dropped while vehicle was parked and would no longer roll up. . . . Reefed it up and taped it. . . . . Took to Jeep dealership. . . . . Total cost to repair is $650. 00. . . . . Interior drivers side door handle is cracked/broken. Chrysler corp. Dealer states that it will cost $600. There has been hundreds of complaints for same defective/cheap door handles and their breakage, made on internet. This is an unsafe issue. People can't get out of their vehicles!.
Car started to run really bad then when I tried to crank it backup it ran for a few minutes and died. I noticed gas then flames coming from exhaust pipe. It will run for few minutes but really bad , then it will die. It want crank immediately after it dies you have to wait a while before it will crank again. I haven't been able to find out what the problems are to correct them.
2011, 2012 Chrysler vehicles with the pentastar v6 3. 6 liter engine are rated to tow 5000 lbs unrestricted with the tow package installed. There is a design defect in the cooling system in that it cannot cool the engine when towing about 3500 lbs uphill. The tow vehicle starts uphill at the highway speeds of 65mph in the passing lanes with enough power to continue and suddenly without any warning, lights, etc. , the tow vehicle looses power and abruptly slows to a maximum speed of about 27mph. With all other vehicles on the road trying to get by and not slow down, this creates an extremely dangerous situation of attempting to cross 3 lanes or more to get off the road while tractor trailers have to slam on the brakes and hopefully screech to an almost stopped position to avoid killing the families in the tow vehicles. Chrysler has confirmed the problem but has refused to do anything about it and has insisted that the vehicles are working the way they were designed but are obviously not working within the advertised specifications. Chrysler does not want to change the advertised specs due to the fact that it might cost them money, even though many peoples lives are at risk. Chrysler could easily perform a recall and fix the problem, saving lives, but there would be a small monetary cost to Chrysler.
The driver side interior door handle began to crack, followed by the other three interior door handles. I can barely open any of the doors from the inside at this point. I fear that very soon, I won't be able to open any of the doors from the inside at all rendering my vehicle useless. This is obviously a factory defect that I could not have caused by myself. The door handles on my vehicle should not be falling apart after only six years. The poor quality of the plastic used to make the door panels is clearly the problem. I cannot afford to replace all four door panels on my own, nor do I feel that I should take full responsibility for cost. I am extremely frustrated and upset by the disappointing quality of the vehicle and the current state of the economy is not making things easier for me.
Purchased 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo new from dealer mick's north hills Chrysler. Have had vehicle in for repair or reprogramming of passive entry and pushbutton start multiple times. The problem began happening the day after it was purchased. Repair took quite a while and also had downtime where vehicle shut itself off when driving at least twice. The original problem was corrected after multiple visits and calls to dealer. The problem began happening again over past couple of weeks with "key not found". One week ago Saturday (4/30) the vehicle would not start using either key nor when removing push button and attempting to start with key inserted. It would crank and crank but not start. After leaving sit overnight it started the next day. But still getting intermittent "key not found". The dealer took the car in for service again on 5/2 and this time dealer replaced batteries in both key fobs. Two days later the vehicle would not start in the am or any other repeated attempts throughout the day. Had it towed to another dealer for service and repair pending as of 5/9.
Engine stops running while the vehicle is being driven. Typically the failure occurs when the throttle is closed during deceleration I. E. (when decelerating to exit the freeway or decelerating to stop in traffic). The problem was first encountered at 14k miles and persists to date. The vehicle currently has accrued 46k miles. The vehicle has been to the dealer on 5 occasions for diagnosis/repair of the problem. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem and no fault codes are stored in the on board diagnostic system memory. Chrysler customer service was contacted for assistance to no avail. The Chrysler customer service representative merely contacted the servicing dealer and was told no driveability issues exist with the vehicle. I note the vehicle stopped running in traffic after leaving the dealer service department 4/22/2011 (Chrysler customer service was advised). This condition is unsafe as steering and braking systems are significantly degraded without power assist.
All four door handles broke. When you tried to open the door the handle crashed and you ended with the door handle in your hand.
Three of the four (the 4th is shattered) door handles in my Jeep are cracked, ready to break anytime. The passenger side one is completely cracked and broken hanging on by a thread. I'm afraid soon I'm going to have to roll down the window just to get out of the Jeep. This is a safety hazard, I can only hope I'm not involved in an accident and that I won't be able to open the door due to this malfunction. I have noticed during my searches that there are hundreds of complaints with this issue, how can it be that there is no recall yet? please hear this outcry, I cannot afford to pay $500-$700 per door to get it fixed. I feel cheated by Jeep/Chrysler they must be held liable for this issue, we the customers have paid a lot of money for our vehicle. Please help!.
Found that the first time I tried to open the sunroof since last fall that it will not open. A clicking can be heard from the sunroof motor located behind the sunroof. Sunroof will go to vent position, but will not slide back.
Broken interior door handles- they are chipping off around the handle causing the handles to fall inside the door and are unable to open the doors. On the drivers door, the plastic supporting the interior door handle has broken leaving the handle unmounted. It is not covered under warranty and they are approximately 400. 00 to 500. 00 a panel and every one of the handles in my vehicle are like this. This is an obvious safety hazard. I contacted Jeep at 1-800-521-9922 and filed a case and they have declined to help me in any way stating it is wear and tear. I have owned may vehicles and never have I ever had a problem with any other of the handles on my vehicles. I have a 1988 Ford truck that the door handles work fine and are not broken. This is an obvious defect on these vehicles and a recall should be done. . . Especially since it is not just one door handle it is all of them. Thanks for your help.
I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Air conditioner would only function properly when on high setting. If I try to put it in a lower setting the air conditioner shuts off. Dealer service center stated that a hose needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 40,000.
Whilst driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee (equipped with the Mercedes Benz common rail diesel (crd) 3. 0 l engine) on I-410 at highway speed, the engine suddenly stopped, without any warning. This also made the power brakes and power steering inoperative. Today, the dealer tells me that this is caused by a faulty crankshaft position indicator sensor and is a fairly common occurance. I should think this is a design flaw and should be corrected by the mfg.
When opening rear door, handle broke in several places. Person opening door was only 4 so it was due to the over exertion. It is now not possible to open the rear door from inside the car.
The interior door panels on 3 of the 4 doors on my Grand Cherokee are broken and show stress fractures around the interoir door handle, the part of the door behind the interior door handle that is attached to the rest of the door panel. This part is very weak and prone to fracture, making the interior door handle fall free into the vehicle. The doors are barely operable and I am worried in a collision these doors will not function. The front panels cost $750 a piece and the rears cost $450. I can not afford the repairs so I am forced to drive an unsafe vehicle as this is my only vehicle. Jeep and Chrysler are well aware of the issue as I found out when I asked about the problem at the dealership. This issue needs to be fixed now and if Chrysler isn't going to do it willingly it falls to the ntsb to step in and prevent needless deaths due to faulty door handles.

I purchased a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee x package on 1/18/2011. 2 weeks after purchasing vehicle I was stopped at a light, while my foot was on the brake the car surged forward almost hitting the car in front of me. Car continued to accelerate on its own I had to ride the brake home. Dealer said he never had this problem before and had no clue what to do so he had to wait for Chrysler to call him to tell him what to do, should have red flagged this answer. # days later dealer called said car was fixed, it was a bad sensor on the gas pedal, replaced, and augured me it was safe to drive. A week later, I was stopped at a stop sign waiting to make a right turn on the way home from dropping off my kids at school, the car accelerated forward suddenly, electronic throttle light and engine light came on, the car accelerated forward skidding out onto the sidewalk almost hitting a pole. Due to my quick thinking I avoided death twice in this car. My husband and I bought this as a first car for my daughter, the thought of a new driver driving this deathtrap is scary. I will never put myself or anyone in my family in this car, it is seriously a death threat to drivers and pedestrians. Chrysler better man up before more people lose their lives.
I went into jim brown auto sales on Friday 1/29/2011 to purchase a vehicle. The sale representative joe zeller advised me that of the list of cars I brought in the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee was the best one. While processing paper work. I asked joe zeller for a copy of the vehicle report. He acknowledge but never provided the documentation. I drove the vehicle to an near by auto shop (m-l) to have the vehicle looked at. On the way to m-l I heard the car knocking. I was advised that there are numerous issues with the vehicle. Being the front drive shaft, transmission, and tranfer case. I advised the seller once I found out. I was told by the person who picked up the phone that I will be called back regarding this matter. No one called. On Wednesday, February 1, I drove to brakeway to have the brakes looked at because the lights came on. Brakeway advised the same issues as m-l. I took the vehicle back to jim brown auto and requested the truck be looked at. They accepted the truck but refused to look at the issues that were pointed out. I just need some justice regarding this vehicle.
We have a 1004 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has had an ongoing failure in the air conditioning system. Over 10 times the vehicle has been into 2 different dealership repair facilities to correct the problem and there has been numerous parts replaced (blending doors, valves etc) and the failure is still there. The a/c system does not produce air at the temp that is selected, and most of the time will blow hot on one side and cold on the other or the other way around. The last time it was in the dealership the manager said they could find nothing worng, and when my wife drove the vehicle with the manager, there was burning hot air coming out of the vent, the manager said that was normal. Nothing they have done has fixed the problems and we are ready to sue them to recoup our money.
On a cold day, my husband was sitting in his 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the defrosters on. He heard a pop and saw the windshield crack from left to right. The car was not moving and nothing had hit the windshield. There had not been a chip or crack before this happened. The windshield cracked for no apparent reason. I called Chrysler to report the incident. The service rep told me that the same thing had happened to her. I was told to take it to a Jeep dealersip to have it looked at, which I did. After 6 days of giving me the runaround, Chrysler said that they will not pay to have it repaired because it is out of warranty. I looked on the internet and saw that other people have had the same problem. The dealership told me that they had just had a Jeep with the same problem the previous week. A second service rep at Chrysler had told me that she had the same problem. It obviously was not an isolated incident.
My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has had all 4 door handles crack and 1 has completely broken off. After researching the internet, I have found that this is a common occurrence on this vehicle, and seems to be a major safety concern. In any occasion where exiting the vehicle quickly is necessary, broken door handle(s) can risk injury and death to occupants. This is not a minor issue, just like an emergency exit in a building, it can be potentially fatal. Nhtsa owes the people of the united states of America the common courtesy to acknowledge that this posses a huge risk for it's citizens. Please protect our right to safe vehicles, and the responsibility of auto makers to remedy any errors in design that pertain to human safety!.
On approximately December 8, 2010 the plastic around the inside left rear door handle cracked while my daughter was opening the door from the inside. After that the handle was loose and I frequently had to open the door from the outside to let her out of the Jeep. Around July of 2011 my father tried to open the door from the inside and more of the plastic surrounding the handle broke off and the handle fell down inside the door panel. Now the door cannot be opened at all from the inside. This is a major safety issue. The door handle was never handled in a rough manner and should never have failed like this.
Latches/locks/linkages in December 2010 at 42,000 miles our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee (limited) developed a crack in the drivers' door handle housing causing the inside door handle to come loose from the inside door panel. (the door handle is set in a hole made of thin plastic that functions as a pivot hinge. Once the plastic cracks then the handle just pops out of the door panel. ) then in January 2011, the right rear door handle developed the same problem and this door handle also came out of the handle housing, and it can no longer be opened from inside the car. Upon inspection we discovered that both the right front passenger door and rear left passenger door have developed cracks in the plastic in the same place, and will likely break soon. We note that there have been 42 identical complaints lodged on the NHTSA site involving this same problem on the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Here in florida, with frequent opportunities to run off the road into lakes or canals, this problem is extremely serious, possibly causing persons to drown in the car when unable to unlatch the door in an emergency. Chrysler customer service has said they do not have a record of this issue and they do not feel that they should cover the repairs if the vehicle is out of warranty. Some other persons who have reported the issue state that to repair the door handle requires a complete replacement of the side door panels at a cost of over $700 per door. It is entirely unreasonable that a car would have no workable door handles after just 5 years or 42,000 miles of use. This is not normal wear and tear, nor is it reasonable wear and tear. We rarely have back seat passengers in this vehicle. It is clearly a defective design and substandard materials. Chrysler needs to recall these vehicles to correct this dangerous situation.
Auto transmission gear shift not shifting into gears correctly; loss power around curves; sometimes engine light comes on; sometimes all gear indicators come on dash; feels as though can't accelerate when entering onto highway or passing. Nothing done yet. Called dealer, online searches. Very very many same-similar online & very expensive repair $700+. Appears to be defective part & should be recall/dealer replace/repair!!.
There are two issues, one being the issue with the engine dying once the vehicle is put into a forward or reverse position from either reverse or drive position. Second is the issue of the vehicle surging forward just prior to stopping. The engine will rev up just prior to stopping and start a hard but load rumbling due to the brakes being held and the vehicle wanting to drive forward. I have an appointment with my repair shop to diagnose the issue, and it is very wearing of the possibility of this issue causing an accident.
Heater blend doors broke no heat on drivers side, power wires frayed and plug starting to melt for heater power.
I have had to replace the window regulator in my rr window three times so far and the lr one just broke. Jeep is saying it isn't under recall and offer no help to replace it. The fee to replace the crappy plastic piece is $50 if I manage to rip apart my car door or $185 if Jeep does it. The interior door handles, all 4, broke off, at almost the same time. There is a common manufacturers material defect, as the door handle "pocket" is made out a brittle plastic, and they just shattered, or cracked simply by using the interior door handle to exit the vehicle. This is dangerous because in an emergency, one would not be able to exit the vehicle if the door handle breaks off in your hand.
I purchased a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited in 2007 and it had 25,000 miles and one owner. At 40,000 miles the blenn doors failed due to defect of cheap plastic and shoddy construction. Most Jeep dealers want $1500. 00 to repair this issue. This is a safety issue and Chrysler should be held responsible and pay for full repair of this malfunctioning design.

Electrical system failure, some times tail lights, some times brake lights , sometimes all rear lights go and stay out. Hood and tail gate do not stay up, radio and seat position do not always work. Now rear blinkers do not work. Can not drive at night due to this.
I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4 bad door handles. Interior doors the plastic frame around the handles is broken on all 4 doors, door handles become flimsey with no support causing a severe safety issue when trying to open a door. In an accident, fire, anytime the door needs opened, there is a possibility for failure when the handle breaks. It had already failed to open once. I am afraid to have my grandchildren ride in my car because if they needed to get out in a hurry, they could be stuck or worst killed. Dealer say's no recall and $800. 00 a panel to replace. Vehicle suffers loss of acceleration. This can occur when merging into traffic, attempting to pass. Routinely happens after traveling on interstate at consistent speed but has happened when attempting to merge onto or off interstate. There have also been occasions when vehicle appeared to backfire discharging plume of white smoke. Diagnostics at the dealership did not show any problems but when a computer was hooked up to the vehicle, it captured unexplainable readings that astounded the mechanics. Dealership has changed two map sensors and this has not corrected the problem.
The interior door handles both front and back are cracking and breaking off in my Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 2005. No longer is it possilble to open the front passenger side door from the inside. The back passenger side door is the same. Both the front and back driver side handles are cracking with pieces of plastic broken off. They are eventually going to break off as well. This is not occurring to abuse of opening the doors. I have probably had the back doors opened from the inside a total of 30 times for the three years I have owned the vehicle. Do not have children that ride in the back (have none), and do not transport people places from the backseat of my car very often. I have searched on line and this is a issue for thousands of other 2005 Jeep cherokee owners. It is a hazard and danger if someone is unable to get out of my Jeep in a emergency.
Good afternoon. Within the past 24 months, all 4 of my door handles (interior) have had hair line cracks that have developed into full breaks on the door handles causing safety concerns for myself and my children should we be in an emergency and be unable to get out of the car. I had purchased an extended warranty on my Jeep (7 years or 70,000. 00) miles and when I had taken it in to our authorized dealer, they informed me that it was not covered. I have received a quote to fix this and was informed that they need to replace the entire door panel as the handle itself is not a part in itself, which will cost over $2000. 00 for parts and labor. My vehicle is in excellent shape except for this.
My Jeep is down to only the two front door handles which are completely cracked and ready to break off at any time. The rear doors have no handles and pose a serious risk if the vehicle is ever in a car accident and people are trapped inside. Jeep needs to step up and fix their mistake.
All four interior door handles are cracking and breaking. They have holes in them and the drivers door handle is falling off and the drivers side rear door handle is also falling off. This creates a safety issue since in the case of an emergancy small children may not be able to open the rear doors.
I recently purchased a newer model used vehicle that has started to present some serious concerns that the dealership where I purchased it cannot figure out the problem and discounts my complaint. My vehicle's motor acts as if is going to stall on take off from a stop position. I have attempted on 3 separate occasions to have the problem serviced by the dealership's service department; however, the dealership tells me they have no concerns with the vehicle. Although the problem is not presenting itself when I bring it to the dealership, it is happening more often now than in the beginning of the vehicle's purchase that I know the problem is escalating. I cannot figure out what "triggers" this event except that when it does happen, my two young children are in the vehicle. A new issue also has presented itself. On July 4, as we were traveling down a narrow road aligned by trees, the vehicle down shifted so hard it cause the vehicle to accelerate and forcibly jerk; however, we immediately regained control of the vehicle. My abs, esp and bas lights are displayed and I have an appointment with the dealership to have this serviced for Tuesday, July 6, at which tme I will also ask them to perform another inspection/service my stalling motor issue as well as the new accelerating/jerking issue.

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I love. However, my factory installed sunroof leaks (and by leaks I mean it pours rain on me). I have taken it to five separate repair shops, including a Jeep dealership, and each has told me that a seal from the sunroof has broken off and it will be $600 as they have to install a new glass piece with the seal built in as that is the only way Jeep makes sunroofs now. This seal is a known defect, as admitted by the Jeep dealership. I was told by the dealership that it is such a known defect that you can only buy the glass and seal together now. I don't understand how this can be a known defect with Jeeps and yet not be a recall. I cannot afford the $600 to repair what should be a simple fix, but has turned into a nightmare every time it rains, which is often since I live in oregon. I constantly hear on Jeep commercials how Jeep prides itself in its name. I love every thing about my Jeep, except for an obvious defect that is not being addressed. Below I have found several websites discussing the leaking sunroof issue and the seal defect to show that I am not the only Jeep owner with this problem. I love my Jeep, it has been the best vehicle I have ever bought and it is often the only vehicle that can get me to my property in the winter due to the land being in the middle of nowhere with terrible roads. The interior door plastic that holds the door handle has cracked and broken causing the parts to fall, causing the door to be only opened from the out site. This is a serious safety issue. A person on the inside of the car can not open the door unless you roll down the window and open from the out side. It appears this has happening with this vechicle on a large scale. This has occured on 3 of the 4 doors. The dealers want 600 to 700 dollars to repair each door. Looks like the plastic to make the panels was defective. I have never seen this happen before or even heard of it until I started looking on line. The first auto I owned was in 1966, I have retained most of the auto I've owned at least 8 to 10 years from time of purchase and never have I seen anything like this. I'm afraid to drive the Jeep because this issue.

3 of the 4 interior door handles have broken off out of the handle housing. The 2 back doors are unable to open from the inside creating a serious safety risk. The drivers door is hanging on by a thread. Still operable but handle housing is completely broken. Even normal wear and tear should not cause this type of breakage on so many vehicles. Chrysler should step up and rectify this issue before deaths occur and lawsuits begin.
2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited has a paint problem. Consumer states that the dealership misrepresented and unreported information about the problem of etching and peeling paint and repainting of the vehicle. The consumer also discovered extensive rust under the front seats and on the hinges, he believed there was possible moisture problem.
The driver and passenger door panel plastic mouldings surrounding and encasing the door handles has broken with pieces falling inside the door. The door panel no longer securely holds the handle mechanism and on occasion jams the handle. . These failures were not due to unusual circumstances or abuse, but rather failures occurred in normal entry and egress activity from the vehicle. No used replacement door panels can be found via used part outlets showing the extent of the problem, and oem replacement/repair costs are outrageous and is nearly $2000 (I understand these plastic mouldings are on natiional backorder). Numerous identical incidents of this failure are evidently prolific as sourced by internet customer satisfaction research on the Jeep cherokee as well as complaints posted with the dot/nhts. Please add my most vocal and serious complaint about this obvious manufacturing defect. This obvious safety problem potentially prohibits exit from the vehicle should an accident require such action, not to mention the costs to the consumer due to a faulty product. A recall to correct this defect should be immediate and sustained for any consumer who expects to be able to open and close a vehicle door for the expected life of the vehicle.
The interior door handles are broken and I have to open the door with a strap. I consider this to be a safety hazard.
Sudden acceleration/ loss of brakes. Vehicle accelerated to full throttle while entering from freeway onramp. The driver took foot off accelerator and vehicles accelerator pedal continued to move downward to full throttle and would not decelerate after an attempt to "pump" the accelerator pedal to try and get the pedal to release. The automobile was then put in neutral and the engine would not slow down in" rpm's". The brakes were applied and an attempt was made to stop the vehicle and the brakes were not functioning properly with the automobile coming to a very long and slow stop white trying to maneuver the automobile to the side of the road. Once the vehicle was brought to a stop the motor was still at an extreme "rpm" level. The motor was turned off at the ignition switch and the engine finally stopped running. After sitting at the side of the road for sometime the vehicle was restarted and driven to a safe location where the driver let the vehicle sit for an hour or two and restarted for the final drive home(about five miles). The vehicle was taken to the dealers service department the next business day. The dealer ran a scan on the vehicle and diagnosed that the event occurred as stated. The dealer consulted Chrysler service center and were recommended to replace the throttle and brake modules for the sudden acceleration and braking problems. The vehicle parts are at the dealer with the vehicle. The vehicle was test driven by the dealer and the customer was told the vehicle was ready. When the customer asked if the vehicle was repaired and safe the service department representative said "we installed the recommended parts by Chrysler service" and would not say if the vehicle was repaired properly or safe from the sudden acceleration/brake problem. The vehicle as of today 12-24-2008 remains at the dealer.
Dashboard has a loud creaking sound coming from its underside when turning on ventilation? there is creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off. There are strange numbers popping-up on the climate control display. The cold ir blows from one side of the dash even when the heat is turned on. Research has shown all 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees with electronic dual climate controls will eventually require major repair in order to cure hot air/cold air blowing from vents when they're not set to do so.
I bought my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 05 with about 50,000 miles on it. Sometime in 08 the blower motor started working off and on. After about 3 years I did some research and found that the most likely cause was the blower motor resister. After checking, I notice that the resistor harness had been melted. I did some more research and found that this was quite common. This should be a recall item because this is a serous fire hazard. If the wires were hot enough to melt the plastic sheathing, whats to stop it from causing a fire in an unsuspecting consumer's Jeep? I was fortunate enough to have caught this early on, but if I wasn't, the cost of "what if" is not one I, my wife, or children are willing to pay.

I have had three repaired at a dealership at personal cost and one is pending. I believe it is a defect in the plastic resin manufacturing process for the early 2005 Grand Cherokees because all four door panels have cracked in the exact same place. Chrysler was contacted on numerous occasions and denies that this is an issue. This is a potential safety issue because if the door handle breaks loose, you cannot open the door to exit the vehicle from the inside. This exact issue has been documented several times by other Grand Cherokee owners and all of them have had similar results with Chrysler's denial of an issue.

I had received a notice to change/flash computer prom by Chrysler, so I took in to dealer, it took about 5 minutes. But after this the vehicle starter to miss once in while, but not stall at that time. Then it started to get worse, it stalled at low speeds, on the city streets, high speeds on the freeway, right after starting or if it has run for awhile, then acts up "throw codes" but nothing to the reason why fuel bank or speed sensor, no spark. I looked under hood and shook wires and it will die or run better. Now it is doing it too many times, some times in will restart right away, but some times it will take some time to restart. I burned up a starter, and two new fresh batteries with this. Wife can not drive it any more I have replaced distributor, cam sensor, crank sensor, removal connection blocks and soldered up the wire connections, which only helped to get power back in the battery. I can still shake the wire loom, and it dies or runs better to this date. So as you see it has not one way or another to make it run bad, we can not depend on this only vehicle now. I am a post ase cert auto tech, w/ computers and I can not figure out.
Engine shut down while driving at 65 mph. No prior problems - driving to a vacation destination on us 95, had been driving for @ 3 hours - took my foot off of the gas pedal and engine shut off, leaving me without any control over the vehicle- luckily, was able to steer to shoulder - was able to restart car within 5 minutes, however the engine shut down twice more during this trip under the same set of circumstances-just taking my foot off of the accelerator; again left without ability to control auto. Reached my destination point and brought car to nearest dealer - received a call the following day that the car was repaired and that the integrated auto computer program failed and the computer program needed to be updated and re-installed. Dealer noted that he had received notice of this issue occurring to other '07 Jeep Grand Cherokees, but Chrysler was not issuing a recall. It was mere luck that I avoided any accidents.
I was completely stopped at a 4-way stop sign. Each time the van in front of me moved forward, I would let off the brake to drift forward a few feet, and then re-engage the brake to stop. When the van that was directly in front of me moved forward to take its turn at the stop sign, I again let off the brake to drift forward & then re-engaged the brake. However, my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee's engine revved/idled high & it lurched forward. I smashed the brake to the floor, but the Jeep lurched forward a 2nd time. I lifted my foot for a split-second & again pushed the brake pedal as hard as I could, but the Jeep lurched forward a 3rd time & hit the van in front of me. My daughter was in the car with me & felt the Jeep lurching/jumping forward as well. Not to mention, she heard me saying that I couldn't get the Jeep to stop. I am certain I was not pressing the accelerator simultaneously because my foot was firmly/solidly on the brake pedal. If I had been on the gas, I would have hit the van much harder/faster. Now, I will be responsible for paying for the damages done to the van, as well as paying for higher insurance premiums. The truth is, I am not at fault; the Jeep is.
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo that has multiple problems that many people have. They are not coincidental. I have the mysterious coolant loss that requires me to fill my Jeep with coolant every three days. Several mechanics have not found in leaks. However in hopes of fixing the problem, I had my water pump replaced, two days later. . . . My low coolant indicator pops up. Then my oil pressure is ridiculous going from zero to max and then making my check gauges light come on. Had the oil pressure sensor replaced because it was supposedly leaking. . . . Still having my oil pressure gauge go crazy. My a/c has ceased working as well and now the passenger rear door lock doesn't want to cooperate. I am very upset to the fact that hundreds of people are having the same problems with the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. In March, 2005, with 59,000 miles, my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland, which I purchased new in August 2002, needed a new rear differential. A replacement was also needed at 80,000 (July 2006), 86,000 (March 2007), and 98,000 (April 2008). As of this writing, the dealer has had the vehicle for over 3 weeks. In replacing first the bearings, then the gears, and then the "entire rear end", they have been unable to solve the problem. Attempts to contact Chrysler have been unsuccessful. No one at the 800 numbers can offer any solutions. I have an extended warranty, so the repairs have been covered, minus my $100 deductible. But, I don't think the number of repairs is questionable. I've found a number of sites with other individuals reporting the same problem on this particular body style/model. Perhaps there is a wide spread problem. .
I own a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, 6 cyl 4x4. The vehicle has been losing power at highway speeds on an almost daily basis, usually while negotiating left hand curves. When the vehicle loses power, the traction control light turns on and the vehicle decelerates rapidly. During the power loss, I can put the accelerator to the floor and the vehicle will not accelerate. I have almost been involved in several rear end crashes due to this issue, as it happens without warning. The vehicle has been to the dealership 5 times for related issues. On 03/18/08 the abs wiring harness was re-routed because it was rubbing on the left front tire. The shifter module has also been replaced twice, however, the aforementioned problem is ongoing. The last time the vehicle was at the dealership was 09/25/09 and I was told that there was no computer code for the problem and that the dealership could not fix or diagnose the problem because they could not recreate it. I am afraid that if I continue to drive this vehicle it is inevitable that I will be involved in a collision as a result of this mechanical failure. I cannot afford to replace the vehicle and the dealership where I purchased the vehicle has been useless in fixing the problem. I am at my wits end and I am getting nowhere with papa's Dodge.
I began having issues with my heating/cooling in spring 2007. The a/c wasn't cold and recharging it only helped for a couple weeks. I took it to the shop and they replaced something to keep the air cold. Then the fan stopped blowing. The same shop took it in and got the fans blowing. Winter 2007 the passenger side heat stopped working and blew ice cold air instead. The driver's side blows hot air. The shop said the blend door motor would need to be replaced. The passenger side blend door motor replacement would require removal of the dash for access. Winter 2008, after recent replacement of the fan, I am now driving with no pressure coming from the vents and the passenger side air trickling cold air. I'm very tired of paying for this.
I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and I am having several issues. First the seat warmer on the driver's side quit working. Then the heat on the passenger side stopped working. Finally, the heat went out all together. I've been doing some research on the internet and it seems that several other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners have this same problem. It seems to be an issue with the blend door. I haven't had it fixed yet because the estimate to fix is was very high.
I have been dealing with this for years in my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The door handles on the inside are all broken. One in the back is comepletely broke off and the 2 in the front are hanging by a wire. This is a very dangerous issue and I get nowhere when trying to talk to Jeep or even Jeep dealers. Recently I saw online many more people with this problem and someone even said Jeep agreed to a $50 copay in 2010. I brought my Jeep into the dealer when it was still covered under my extended warrenty bought from Jeep when I bought it in 2006, and they told me it is cosmestic and not covered. When calling Jeep I was told nobody has died so no recall and I am responsible for replacing these door handles. You can not replace the handles only, you have to replace the whole panel and total cost is around $3000. With the amount of people having this issue it is unbelievable that it is not being addressed on a large scale. If one of us gets killed from being trapped inside of their Jeep because the door handles are all broken they will have a huge price to pay. I am down to one handle, and extremely unhappy! please help!!!.
Summary: latches/locks/linkages: I own a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The handle on the driver side and the front passenger door are breaking from the door panel, they are literally hanging by a thread. This is a huge problem as I can't get the doors open sometimes unless I roll the windows down and reach through. This is a huge safety concern because if in emergency we could be trapped in the vehicle. This problem started about 3 years ago and has escalated since. I don't feel as though I should be financially responsible for what seems to be a widespread problem with this vehicle. Chrysler is even denying that they know of any such problem, which is absolutely ridiculous. Something needs to be done about this!.
The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at any speed, the vehicle shuts off whenever an object touches the ignition key. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current mileage was 22,200 and failure mileage was 18,000. Updated 05/19/08.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle began making grinding noises. The vehicle came to a sudden stop, but the engine was still running. The contact drove to a local dealer. The vehicle is currently in the repair shop and the contact is waiting to find out the cause of the failure. The current and failure mileages were 16,000. I purchased a new 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 9/27/07 from tarbox Jeep in n. Kingstown, ri the day I took delivery the Jeep had several problems the front windows did not work properly, the tail gate was not lighting up properly and I was getting a vibration through out the Jeep when driving over 45 mph. I informed the sales man the next day of the defects in the Jeep I brought the Jeep in to be serviced and to have the repairs done on 11/6/07 the tail gate was fixed as best as they could but still defective the front power window's were also corrected how ever the vibration has not been resolved they replaced the drive shaft, they also removed the transmission and replaced the torque converter that still did not correct the problem. They know believe it needs a new downloag to the transmission control modular but that will not be ready for at least 2 weeks and they do not know if that will correct the problem and they are insisting I take back the Jeep on 11/16/07 I feel the Jeep might be a safety hazard to drive due to tarbox not know what the problem is I have called Chrysler and I am in need of help I drive about 600 miles each week and do not feel safe driving the Jeep in the correct condition. I have had a rental car for 10 days going on 11 days. I could use some help on this matter.
Window regulator in passenger side window went out. This is the 2nd time this has happened to my Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is a 2002. The first was about 2 months ago when this problem happened with the driver side window. These have each cost me 300 dollars. The part is faulty and Jeep owners should be compensated for having to pay for poor craftsmanship on the part of Jeep.

Took Jeep to dealer on Jan 22 07 for abs light check. Was notified my dealer that there was a recall on my car for secondary detent system recall bo2. Dealer serviced detent recall malfunction. When I picked up the car the automatic shift lever would not go down to 1st and 2nd gear, it was being blocked by an internal obstacle under the shift council. Took car in next day around 11:30 am and service writer wanted to keep car overnight. Set appointment with him to bring it in next day Jan 24 07. Dealer advised me that my shifting bezel was broken and needed to be replaced for $95. 00. I advised dealer that shifter worked fine when I brought it in and that they needed to fix whatever it is that they broke. Dealer replied that it was broke before I brought it in and working on the council caused things to shift and thus caused the obstacle. I arrived at the dealer and they said that if I had not brought in my car that it would still be working fine. , dealer agreed with me but wants $95. 00 to fix it. ,. I declined the offer. Took car home and removed shifting council to find that red shift marker was no longer centered around the shift lever and a rubber washer was no longer centered around the shifter. Pulling the shifter back towards drive caused the shifter to be stuck at drive because the red shift marker bezel would not allow shifter to go any further and thus blocked shifter from going from 1st or 2nd gears. While driving the car in this condition the shifter would pop into neutral when a road bump was hit and thus I would loose power, thus an unsafe driving condition. Upon picking my car up on Jan 22 07 around 5 pm I was not advised that my shifter was not working properly or that I was driving off in a vehicle that now had an unsafe driving condition.
Rear defrost does not work properly. Upper portion of defroster does not work while the lower portion does work minimally.
Popping and creaking noises behind the dash when using the heating and cooling unit of the 2002 Jeep with dual climate. Sometimes doesn't seem to work correctly.
Automatic climate control does not blow air at the same velocity from all vents. Some vents get lots of air, some barely blow air at all. In addition, I have had this problem addressed twice, and still get hot air from driver and cold air on passenger when both should blow hot air.
2002 Jeep limited. Winter of 2007 vents on passenger side only blows cold air. Dashboard, windshield defroster and rear seat vents only blow cold air. Major safety problem because cannot defrost front windows due to cold air. Dealer states that they have been getting flooded with 2002 ltd's this year with this problem, and approximately 50% of 2002 Jeep limited have this problem. It is caused by broken hinges on vent door under dashboard. Cost to repair is over $1,000.
My Jeep Grand Cherokee has a bad ventilation system. This is a manufacturing defect which affects all Jeep Grand Cherokee's manufactured with auto climate controls from 1999-2004. I have had to bring mine in for repair twice now, and it has once again failed. The levers in the ventilation ducts have plastic components which, over time, break down and crack causing cold-only or hot-only air to blow from the vents. This issue causes major fogging of the windshield at times depending upon how the levers get stuck, which is a serious and major safety concern- I have to pull over and wipe the windshield down so I can see. I lead a group comprised of over 1000 people who have formed expressly as a result of this matter; all of our vehicles are ailing, and rest assured, there are thousands more out there with this problem who probably aren't even aware our group united against daimler Chrysler even exists. It would be in DC's best interest to issue a recall or settlement agreement before this turns into another class-action suit like they experienced with the 99-03 Jeep Grand Cherokee brake rotor/caliper matter earlier in the year.

Heater no longer working. . Dealer found to be "faulty blend door" and "recir door". The issue causes windows to fog making it difficult to see while driving. I was quoted $1200-1600 to have repaired at dealer. . It's too expensive as I'm on a very limited budget. . . But very concerned about the safety of this vehicle.

I am contacting the NHTSA due to a design flaw in the hvac system of of 1999 - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees. The cause of this problem is the exact same one that countless others have been in communication. Who are experiencing this problem due to the weak blend and recirculation doors in the hvac systems. To address this problem, daimler-Chrysler released TSB 2400104 - new hvac sub-assembly replaces blend or recirc door components. These new parts cost less than $200 according to the bulletin, but I find it hard to believe that daimler-Chrysler expects their customers to pick up the tab on a design flaw. Especially a design flaw that is so labor intensive that even though the parts are less than $200, the final bill will be in the $1,000 area. Because it is no recall for this, the responsibility of this falls to the consumer, despite this being a very obvious case of bad design. There were no events leading up to this failure other than daimler Chrysler selling a defective product to the public. A defect that effects a very basic necessity - heat. This failure results in not only an unacceptable comfort factor, but also effects visibility when hot air needs to be directed toward the front wind shield to eliminate fogging. As of this time, I am waiting for a response to this issue before I consider spending over $1,000 on a design flaw.
2002 Grand Cherokee lost heat on both zones of the dual climate control. The consumer feels that the manufacturer should fix the system free of charge.

Air only blows one speed only at constant speed when accelerating and cuts off when braking. The air only blows hot air and the temp can not be changed. The air/heat started to not work correctly on the passenger side first then reached the drivers side. There is loud creaking noises coming from the dash when the unit is turned on or when the car is cut off. It can even be heard outside of the vehicle.
While driving a rented 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee on an interstate highway, the engine stopped running. I was able to steer the vehicle to the shoulder and restart the engine. I drove cautiously without further incidents. On the return trip on a state highway, the engine unexpectedly stopped. Again, I safely steered the vehicle to the shoulder and restarted the engine. This time, I realized that moving my right leg while driving, my right knee had hit the key and moved it to the "off" position. Both incidents did not result in an accident since the roadway was empty of other vehicles.
A few weeks ago the heat went out in my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I went online and found that this is a way to common issues with Jeeps. I was shown how to run a diagnostic to determine if it was the blend door and or the recirc door. For me it was both. I also saw online there are many complaints for this same thing. Jeep has done nothing to address this but sit back and charge customers to get this fixed. Living in the north and using my car for work puts myself ad my family in a bad position. Faulty part with this many complaints should spur Jeep to fix their cheap part. . .

Auto had 40000+ miles when I bought it from my brother. I had it only a few months when it stalled on the interstate. It would not start until I sat for a little while. I am capable of overcoming auto trouble so I didn't think much about this incident due to the fact that I have been a mechanic for many years now. Then it began to stall in heavy traffic and sometimes would start again and other times after waiting several minutes. I replaced the crank sensor, in-tank fuel pump and filter. It ran okay for a while but began to hard start and stall again about 2 mos. Ago. Then 2 days ago it stalled something like 25 times coming home from the hospital. Since then I have been on the internet reading the blogs about this problem and if everyone that has this issue would email you, your computers would shut down. It is unbelievable that the manufacturer is just replacing the expensive parts at random, taking the money and not fixing the problem. These people, myself included, are begging for a solution to a problem with a very nice automobile made in America by skilled top dollar union labor. It is getting close to scam epidemic. My car is sitting in my garage not fixed because there are about ten different things in the electrical and fuel system that can cause these symptoms. I am a disabled veteran and cannot afford to go down that eliminating process. My doctor doesn't do me that way and I won't allow the manufacturer to do it either.
Purchased new 2004 Jeep from dealer. Within the first month of ownership, I began experiencing occasional, intermittent engine problems at start-up-- the engine would run very rough, shaking the vehicle. The service light in the dash would flash. If driven, the engine would stall unless the accelerator was continually pressed. After a few of these events, we discovered that, if turned off, after about 5 minutes, the engine would run normally. The service light would remain on for a few minutes (sometimes a half hour) and then turn off. This problem re-occurred intermittently, sometimes every month, & sometimes every couple months, usually in the morning at first startup, but sometimes when I left work in the evening to drive home. My salesman and the service manager knew of the problem. Jeep dealer later said that the vehicle was simply in need of a complete tune-up. They did the tune up 6 months ago - may 2006. The problem has recurred again. I took the Jeep in again. Dealer reports that car is "running rough" but they can not find the problem.
Failure causes windshield to fog up and driver cannot see roadway. All ac and heater functions fail. This is the 5th failure after reepeated repairs. The vehicle is unsafe to drive.
I have numerous problems with the engine light coming on. This has been going on for some months now. I have taken the vehicle to the dealership for this problem at least three different times. My engine comes on and stays on for days at a time. The dealership was unable to diagnose the problem. Than for last few months, while I am driving all the gears on my dashboard light up and wont allow me to give the car any gas, and makes a sound like the engine is reving up. This can happen two to five times a day. Now, when I put the car from park to reverse it is a making a long banging noise and jerking the car.
Defective blend door housing.
We purchased a 2001 Grand Cherokee limited from a local dealership with 50,000 miles in may of 2005. No heat from both passenger or drivers side vents. Blend door hinges separated and inop. Recirculation door also inoperable vehicle had 53,500 miles at this time. Drivers seat heater failed at 65,000 miles. Pcm failed at 75,000 miles and this was the only repair covered under warranty. The Jeep now has 81,000 miles and we have had vibration and pedal pulsation from the front brakes three times since we purchased the vehicle.

This is my 4th Jeep. Here is a little background on this issue. I purchased a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the overland edition. The dealership pushed buying a used certified Jeep vehicle! they mentioned the extended warranty that would take care of any issues that the Jeep had during the last years of my ownership. I went in the dealership looking to purchase a new vehicle but they told me all the added benefits / value from buying from the used Jeep facility! the warranty: as mentioned I purchased the warranty sold by Jeep at the local dealership. The service agreement that was sold by the dealership went bankrupt! gary miller Chrysler Jeep isuzu located in erie, PA sold this to me. My 1st issue was when I decided to take the vehicle in because of a vibration while driving. I was made aware that the company was bankrupt when tying to call and find out what information will be needed when I go to the local Jeep dealership in kansas city. Furthermore I mentioned to the Jeep dealership that pushed the contract that I am wiling to purchase the best contract to make sure I do not have an issue with my new vehicle in the future. The constant issues: I have now taken in my Jeep for 6 visits! I have only included some of the payments (see the additional paperwork) but you can see a trend here. This Jeep had been nothing but a problem since I purchased the vehicle! I am now stuck replacing the steering pump for the 2nd time! I have to pay for the replacement and live without a vehicle. I am out several thousand dollars and still have to take this vehicle (that Jeep pushed on me) to the service shop about every 6 months. I just started driving my vehicle from the last service repair (I am getting very familiar to the local Jeep dealerships) and still the item is not fixed and my Jeep is leaking oil all over our company driveway. This vehicle is a lemon and the company that made the vehicle sold me a bankrupt contract.
Window risers. 5 broken risers since the car was new. Garaged with less than 75 k miles. According to the internet this is an item that should have been recalled and there are thousands of compaints about these failures. Chrysler will not fix or respond.
Blend door breakage/failure on electronic dual climate control system.
I have a redesigned 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee purchased in Jan 05. Since that time I have noticed a significant amount of paint chipping on the on the lower body area just in front of the rear wheels. I have owned two prior Jeeps (96, 94) and never experienced this problem. Factory rep says it is in the design of the vehicle and refuses to do anything about it. Have noticed problem on other 2005's as well.
I noticed bird droppings on hood. Washed car as soon as possible. Bird droppings had eaten through clear coat and paint right down to bare metal. Called dealer where purchased, they told me to contact Chrysler. I e-mailed Chrysler and was told that it wasn't covered under warranty. Recently had repaired at owner's expense.
Consumer complained that the belt will not stay in the child's safety seat. The harness that keeps the child in the seat will not stay in the seat. It disconnects from the seat at times. Had to rig up the harness so that child will stay in the car seat. Also, handle does not lock. While putting child in the car seat it dumped him out of the car seat twice. He sustained injuries, hitting his face and head. Consumer called the manufacturer, and they did not fix this car seat.
New 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been in/out of dealership 5 times for leaks in front a-pillars. Has been in shop 2x for the transmission recall, and a mistake they made completing the services. Car is going into shop again because the auto sensor on the rear-view mirror is malfunctioning. We filed lemon law with daimler, and are awaiting a response. Filing complaint with the state of oregon on the dealership due to customer service issues.

(1) I leased a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have had it for 3 years. (2) 2 window regulators (2 different doors) have failed and all speakers have blown. When I purchased a replacement window regulator for $246. 10(1st incendent) I saw that the manufactuer had reinforced the problem area that went wrong with both of my regulators; this tells me that the manufactuer is aware of the regulators failing. As for the speaker, I have been told by numerous car audio rep's that every time a Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in that they have blown speakers(all 6); they go on to tell me that it is because the vehicle manufactuer placed an amplifier that is way to powerful for the speakers. My speaker failed at approx. 23,000 miles under normal use. (3)luckly, I am a trained mechanic and can make the repairs myself or the costs would have been much greater. I have had to purchase 2 window regulators at $246. 10 ea and the speakers totaled $256. 76 with a warranty. ** also, I would like to point out that when my regulators failed the windows just fell down inside of the door; this left my vehicle vulnerable to weather, theft and other safety factors.
2002 Grand Cherokee limited has a known problem with the dual climate control system. A door in the system routinely breaks or strips as soon as the vehicle has passed the manufacturers warranty end date. One side(drivers) of the system works as advertised, however the passenger side will only blow extremely cold air. The cost to rectify this anomaly is around $800 at a Jeep dealership. From reading several automotive repair forums on the internet, this problem is occurring in a very high number, probably percentage of vehicles. Supposedly Jeep is aware of the defective part used in the system and is not doing anything about it. At what point is an auto manufacturer required to issue a recall? is there anything consumers can do to force the maker of the vehicle to fix defective parts?.
I have a 96 Grand Cherokee ltd 4x4 with 115k miles. Since it turned 65k miles I have replaced the brake pads and drums 3 times. I have water leaks in the seat belt wells, the passenger side window, and the belts are wet when it rains. Today, water is pooling in the floor of the driver's side. Water pours from just above the accelerator. Must be from a/c?the rear door hatch has jammed in lock position. The electronic mileage/ fuel readout (on ceiling module) fluctuates wildly and is inaccurate. The catalytic converter went out at 64,975 miles. Now have a crack in the exhaust manifold, quoted $1200 by dealer to repair. I have gone through stock 3 radios, tuner problems. Massive a/c problems in past. I paid a non dealer to repair it, the repairs held for 30 days and same problem started again. Then had dealer repair and it was a recall item so was covered after I'd paid for 2 prev repair jobs at $1100 total. The power steering pump went out at 90k miles. Replaced so many other parts, I'd have to refer to the service records for more details. This list is only from memory. Total cost over 3 yrs. . . . Around $4000! OH, and the rear hatch/door paint is faded and dull, totally different from the rest of the car. All black metal painted parts paint is coming off. Has been for couple of years. Also the roof rattle really loud at over 50mph. The power outlet came apart still attached to my phone cord one day. Finally, the front end has some problem with the axle? and will cost approx $700 to repair. I thought I had a lemon until I talked with 3 other Jeep owners, they've had similar problems. Do we have any recourse with Chrysler over these vehicles. . . I am considering involving an attny.
Blend air doors for ac/heat fail and cause loss of heat and windshield to fog up. Been serviced and replaced twice along with ac/heat controller.
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo does not have a cigarette lighter or an ash tray. The dealer told the consumer a cigarette lighter and ash tray would be mailed to him and he could install it himself. Five days later the consumer received a packaged which contained the normal lighter and a small black plastic cup with a lid for the ash tray. The cup was to be placed in the smaller of the two front cup holders. The consumer stated the ash tray was inadequate but awkward to locate and dangerous to use since it would take the drivers attention from the road.

Bought a 2004 Jeep "special addition" in June of 2003, the air conditioning button would not stay on. Took it to the shop, the part was back-ordered. It took several weeks (without air in our new Jeep during the summer) for the part to come in and be replaced. This Jeep pulls drastically to the right. Also, took this so called trail rated Jeep across a foot 1/2 deep by five foot wide creek on our place (that we drive through on a weekly basis) a piece of ice broke the metal guard piece on the front of the Jeep and the ice lodged up against the radiator in turn damaging the radiator, causing the engine to overheat. We were without our vehicle for 6 weeks because the entire engine had to be replaced. This is by far the worst experience we have ever had purchasing a new vehicle.
Transmission always has a humming noise, especially on highway. Transmission jerks and bangs going into reverse. Door seals need to be stretched back onto car frame. Brakes need to be reworked 3 or 4 times a year due to vibration when stopping. Sometimes headlights flicker off for a second.
When put into drive vehicle suddenly accelerated and crashed into a wall 20-25 feet away. Brake pedal was depressed and accelerator was never touched during incident.
The paint and clear coat on a $37,000 SUV is coming off, not due to the fact that is waxed once a week, this is a huge let down and I will never buy another one ever again.

Accelerator stuck as I entered my long driveway. Car crashed into retaining wall at end of driveway. My face hit steering wheel and air bag did not deploy. This occurred on 9-5-03 and I do not yet know repair costs.
I am a independent used auto dealer in northern California. I just had a customer, who bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4x4 with 48,000 miles 4 months ago, call me to say that the transfer case just exploded and damaged the front differential. On at least 3 prior occasions I have bought 99-00 Jeep Grand Cherokees for resale and had to replace either the transfer case or the rear differential in order to sell the vehichle due to extreme howling or grinding noises coming from the divetrain. All of these vehichles were purchased at auction from daimler Chrysler fleet services at adesa golden gate auto auction with full guarantee. I was recently informed that daimler Chrysler fleet services will no longer arbitate the sale of any more of these vehichles because it is such a frequent occurance. This leads me to believe that they are aware of this problem and are unwilling to correct the problem. All of the vehichles that I puchased had less than 50,000 miles on them and at least one was under the 36,000 mile warranty limit, but over the 3 year limit. I hope that someone can look into this, as it is apparent that there is a problem with this vehichle which daimler Chrysler is obviously aware of. Broken window motor, seat belt mounting bolts, leaking rear shock absorbers, etc. . . The consumer felt Jeep should fix the outstanding problems with the axles and the transmission and give a warranty for the power train. The vehicle experienced a noise while in motion. Also the broken window lift leaked, the rear absorbers failed, the rear passenger window leaked air, the seat belt mounting bolts failed,and a potential fire hazard on the manifold debris shield, the brake pedal pulsated wildly(front were rotors turned), the passenger window had stuck shut, the exterior mirror had broken off, and the transmission slammed into reverse. There was a buzz in the rear which had progressed to a howl. Refer to odi# 10027025.
Complaint regarding smoker's kits in 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The vehicle did not come equipped with a cigarette lighter or an ash tray so the manufacturer sent the consumer a smoker's kit. This cup was to be placed in the smaller of the two front cup holders in the console. This inadequate ashtray was awkward and dangerous to use.
The luggage rack on the top of the vehicle pulled out. The screws and the crush nut below pulled right through the hole for the screw. This was done as we were tightening a strap to hold on 2 pvc pipes on the top. The only way one can secure anything on the top is to strap it to the side rails. When the dealership said neither they nor Chrysler would help with the repair costs, I contacted customer service with Chrysler. The person I spoke to there was michael. He told me straight out that they did not care. When I told them it could come off or lose it's load on the road putting people at risk. He said the company did not care and would not help fix the problem to prevent it from happening again. This should have been a very simple fix, simply put a washer on top of the crush nut they use and the backing piece becomes too large to pull through the hole and thus gives the top a more secure footing and support. Purchased November 2001, had two recalls for fuel system within two months, dealer told me there was previous recall fixed before I purchased. Engine safety warning light has come on and stayed on several days on seven (7) separate occasions. Dealer claims not to worry cannot figure out why. Plus seat heater went out and had to be replaced, interior heater stopped working except defrost. I believe they are all related and is why the engine safety warning light keeps coming on. Also to note--vehicle sways back and forth over small bumps, like riding a small boat in rough water.

I purchased this 1997, Jeep Grand Cherokee from broadway Volkswagen on auto row in oakland CA. At the time the odometer read 48,080k. Two weeks ago the car stopped running while I was driving it. I had to have it towed to albera bros. Jeep/Chrysler dealership where I?ve taken the vehicle since I purchased it. I also purchased a warranty, for $1500 at the time that I purchase the vehicle, which was contained in the contract of the automobile installment payments. The warranty was to cover all repair that is cover for 72 months or 100k miles. I contacted the warranty company, warentech, who's headquarters are in texas and was advised that they would have to send someone out to look at the car. Someone did come out look at the car and took pictures. After a few days I contacted warentech and was advised that they would have to review the information and would get back to me. After several more days I contacted warentech again. I was advised that they needed me fax them my maintenance records verifying that I had maintained the vehicle. I faxed warentech copies of all recent maintenance records. After two or three more days, I once again contacted warentech and was advised that I needed to send more maintenance records and if I didn't have anymore they would deny coverage for repair to the vehicle. I faxed over a total of 13 more records of maintenance verifying that oil changes as well as other maintenance records. That was two days ago and I?ve not heard anything from warentech since. I have already paid $125 dollars to have the car towed to the dealership and have paid another $140 for a rental car to get to and from work. I am very afraid that warentech is going to refuse to pay for the repairs they've already had almost 2-weeks and nothing has been done. I pay $546 a month car not via payroll deduction and have never missed a payment this for two years and I still owe over$18k for the car. I don't know what to do.

1. Came out of gear when in park and crashed sustaining 5000. 00 dollars in damage. Had received a letter from daimler-Chrysler in 2002,however it was not dated stating the car could do this. No recalls were present at the time. They denied any problem when car crashed. Called an attorney who was a relative that told without a doubt (100%) the car would do this. He then called me back and stated he could not represent me because he represented daimler-Chrysler. He was hired by Chrysler after he bought a viper from them that was a lemon and he shoved it you know where and won. They realized what an outstanding attorney he was then hired him. Talk about family ethics. They finally installed the secondary detent system in 12/2008. I was told it was repaired. 2 the car is stalling at high speeds,during u turns, while at stop signs. It to dangerous to drive. Jeep keeps telling me they can not find anything on diagnostics. I was out of town 250 miles from home and they want me to drive an unsafe vehicle back to the. They have been rude,evasive and blaming me. After 500. 00 there diagnostics showed nothing. It has been to 5 other mechanics and know one has been able to diagnose the problem. For 7 to 10 miles when applying brakes there is jerking and pulsation, dealer stated that front brake rotors were warped. Consumer states keyless remote works intermittently. While getting out of the vehicle and walking to the trash can,consumer had the vehicle in park and the vehicle popped out of park into reverse and hit another vehicle. The main problem is that my daughter was in an accident on Nov. 12, 1998. She collided with a g20 van. The van has a small dent in the driver side door. Our Jeep is a wreck!! we are not sure if it is a total or not yet. The front is gone. The consol between the driver and passenger seats is bent and not able to close. Therefore I assume that the inside of the frame is bent. Our bumper was in the street and it was styrofoam. The vehicle was purchased on 3/6/98. I began experiencing electrical failure on 3/14/98. The vehicle was returned for non-operative horn and electrical shock on 3/20/98 to benke Chrysler-Plymouth Jeep eagle. The technician worked on the vehicle for 1 1/2 hours but was unable to find the problem. I was advised to bring the vehicle back or take it to another service center closer to me. I took the vehicle to nolf Chrysler Dodge inc. On 3/30/98. The technician advised both horns to be faulty with internal shorts. The horns were ordered and replaced a week later. I continued to have severe shocks which I was advised by Jeep dealers were static discharge. On December 15th I was awoke by the constant sound of the horn blowing on my vehicle. The police arrived a short time later. I disconnected the battery to stop the horn from blowing and then contacted benke Chrysler-Plymouth Jeep. I was advised to disconnect the horn relay. The vehicle was then driven to gibsonia (without a horn, once again). The technician worked on the vehicle for 2 hours and I was advised the horn relay was defective. I was awaken again at 11pm by the sound of horn going off at my home and once again the police arrived. There seems to be no known cause to date for this defect. The horn blows for no apparent reason while setting idle and does not shut off till horn relay is pulled or battery is disconnected.
