5 Parking Brake problem of the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

While driving my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee and hitting a small bump the emergency brake cable contacts the rear drive shaft universal joint. This is not easily detected upon stopping and restarting it stops. And then again when a bump is hit it happens again. I returned the vehicle to the dealer and was told they have to reroute the cable. I was informed while the rerouting that the cable needed to be replaced. I was charged for a new cable and labor. I believe if the dealer and Jeep know the cable must be rerouted it might be routed wrong from the factory. I have checked with a fleet manager of a large municipal police dept that has aprox 300 2008 Jeeps, they have experienced this on aprox 50 vehicles that are in there fleet. They were told by Jeep to reroute and wire tie the cable in place. I did not unfortunate ask for the used part be returned to me. You assistance in investigating this matter would be greatly appreciated by me and I hope others who have had this problem in the past or future.

6 Parking Brake problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/11/2009

My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited w/42,000 miles. Yes . Not a typo . 42,000, orignal owner & "scared to death" to drive this SUV. I have alot of the already problems, that have been reported. Had to pay many, w/my own cash. This SUV schould have came in 1 color "lemon yellow". It is an accident watng to happen. The recent problem is now I have no a/c-heat or defroster. Ths is due, to failure of the automatic temp control to work. I t started 1st by intermittently working, till now not working at all, this is just 1 more, to the list , of many other problems. I don't think that it is an coincidence that all my issue have happenned, almost exactly, in the order, of all the other complaints. I can't undestand how a company can get away w/this. This new problem can cost up to $2000, if it is, like previous reported problems, happens to be the "blend doors". As a handicapped driver I drive less than 4,000 miles a year. This is the only auto I drive, thus the many, many probs have yet to raise thier head. I have read almost all complaints(too many to read) this SUV schould be a "total recall, I have never heard more complaints & problems, in my life, for any automobile. This SUV schould be studied & reseached, on "how not to build an automobile. Just read the many complaints here & on the internet. We are not making this stuff up. I don't know how they stayed in business as long as they did. We, the taxpayers, bailed them out. Who is bailing out all the owners, of this "death-trap"? if that is not absurd enuff, many problems could have been repaired, by Jeep & still can. What is the purpose, of nhsta, if not to intervene? you have all the complaints. Hundreds of them. You have them posted, yet, we taxpayers/owners safety, has been at risk ever since this SUV was driven out of the showroom. How did you not make a recall on the rotor/brakes issue which was reported at 3,000 miles? I am so frustrated. Is braking problems not a safety issue? please, help us!.

7 Parking Brake problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/07/2009

I parked my vehicle in a driveway and took the key out of the ignition. I opened the rear passenger door and put my son in the backseat. The vehicle gearshift lever was pushed out of park and into reverse with my 3 year old son in the vehicle. The vehicle rolled backwards 20 feet and crashed into a truck. If the truck wasn't there it would have rolled even further into the pond. I'm just hoping this doesn't happen to anyone else, it could've killed someone. I am contacting my dealership to try to get the issue resolved. According to the owner's manual the brake transmission interlock system failed on my vehicle. You should not be able to move the gear shift lever in the p (park) position when the ignition switch is in the lock position. To move the gear selector lever out of the p (park) position, the ignition switch must be turned to the on position, and the brake pedal must be depressed.

12 Parking Brake problem of the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/10/2006

I am complaining about the lack of service for my Jeep cherokee. There is are a couple of recalls for this vehicle. One is the b02 and the other is the 879. I have made arrangements to have them fixed at the smithtown and bayshore dealerships and each appointment has been cancelled. I cannot take the car to a mechanic because the car rolls out of gear when it is in park (b02 recall). So the work that has to be done hasn't been taken care of because mechanics will not bring the car into the shop. As a matter of fact the one time someone allowed it into the shop it rolled out of gear and almost ran the mechanics over. Lets just say we are not on good terms because of this. Parts are worn out. But until this roll out of park issue is taken care of no one will see the car. Again I made several appointments to see Chrysler dealer but they keep canceling my appointments. I want to be paid for the parts that are wearing out and cannot be fixed due to no mechanic will see the car. And I want the dealerships in smithtown and bayshore reported for canceling appointments that were made in advance.

Rear parking brake shoes seem to "fall off" of backing plates. I discussed this with several people who own the same vehicle, and have the same problem. My service advisor stated he has seen this on other vehicles, as well as a dealership mechanic. Once the show separates inside the rear brake, the parking brake does not function properly. Daimerchrysler states it is not a warranty item because it is part of the brakes. If a consumer does not know that his parking brake is inoperative, it could cause a potential accident.
