general problems of the 1999 Jeep Laredo

While driving on the interstate and preparing to exit, vehicle would not slow down or decelerate. I tried to apply the brakes in attempt to stop. Shifted into neutral in order to gain control. Rpm's immediatly shot up to 3000 and fluctuated between 3000 - 4000. Pulling to the side and looking under the hood to see if there was any obstruction in the accelerator linkage,there was not. I attempted to start the vehicle again 3 times with the same results. I let the vehicle cool for 1/2 hour ( temperature was in proper range ), normal operation was obtained. This the first ( and only episode ) I hope to experience. I am an experienced driver and was able to think quickly. Some others may not be so lucky. There is obviously a trend and problem here that Chrysler should deal with. After all I'm sure they dont want us to start buying other makes of vehicles.
