The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Laredo. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the driver's side seat fractured at the frame making driving conditions unsafe. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. After diagnosis, they advised him that the track to the seat fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Approximately 2 years later, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. The current mileage was approximately 165,000. The driver's side seat of my 2000 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo became dislodged from the brackets while I was driving. This caused me to loose control of the vehicle and nearly crash into oncoming traffic. I inspected the vehicle on the side of the road and discovered that the rails on the brackets had torn apart. These should be made out of some type of durable metal but they brackets are very poorly constructed and the metal is not thick enough to handle the wear and tear of regular use. I looked on the internet for replacement brackets but, instead of finding parts, I found a series of complaints by drivers who experienced the same problem with their Jeep. This is a serious problem that was corrected in the newer Jeeps but is still an issue for anyone with Jeep model purchased from 1998-2004.
