Jeep Laredo owners have reported 6 problems related to headlights (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have a 2006 Jeep Laredo 3. 6l with 54,000 miles on it. Since may of 2012 it has been nothing but a huge problem. I have contacted Jeep customer care and had a casenumber with them to get the issues resolved, needless to say they fixed half of the issues and then closed the case when the dealership that was working on it was unable to diagnose the other issues. The Jeep will lunge, jerk, and get stuck in 2nd gear at 1. 5rphs until you press the gas really hard and it slips gears. For the past 4 months on and off the Jeep has been having electrical problems for example today while leaving work I was going around 30 mph and turned my heat on then all the lights on the dashboard came on (check engine, oil,) all those my gas gage went from full to empty my headlights went off and I lost power steering and abs brakes. Never the less it was dark outside so im a sitting duck to other cars who can not see me. Then about 10 seconds later the Jeep is back to normal and is running fine. It has even done this when I just honk my horn or turn on my radio. I have contacted Jeep many of times regarding this issue and their response is we don't know what it is! so they want me to pay up to 1,000. 00 in diagnostic costs (dealership said) because they are going to have to search everything on the Jeep to see what the problem is because it could be anything. And Jeeps response was they are not saying that they will cover it or not. I have a extended warranty on the Jeep that I bought that is good for another 50,000 miles. These issues should be required to be fixed and paid for by Jeep because it is a huge safety problem. What happens if this issues happens again with my small child in the car at night and I get hit by another car because they can not see me? will Jeep pay then?.

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Laredo. While driving various speeds, the contact noticed that the headlights were dim. She pulled over and inspected the headlights and noticed a film on the light covers due to condensation. She called two dealers to see what could be done to remedy the failure. One dealer stated that they were aware of the defect; however, they both stated that the headlight housing needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer and the dealer from where the vehicle was purchased and they both advised her to replace the headlight housing because nothing could be done to remedy the failure. The failure mileage was 78,000 and current mileage was 90,000. Updated 09/17/08. Updated 09/25/08.

N/a updated 01/07/08. The consumer stated the headlight surface had deteriorated causing a film which, muffled the amount of light through. The manufacturer was aware of the problem but only offered a solution that the consumer would have to pay for. Updated 12/12/07.

The headlight covers are very opaque and distorted. Visibility is greatly reduced at night making visibility very poor. I have tried several polymer cleaners with little or no effect. The distortion is on the inside of the headlight cover. This is a defect in the cover itself, not a maintenance problem. The cost with labor to replace both covers would be close to $500. A safety recall should be placed on the headlight covers immediately. This is a common problem with this model.
