The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and the mechanic stated that the vehicle was serviced under an unknown recall and apparently the air bag was replaced with the same defective air bag. For a couple of years now my air bag warning light comes on and an intermittent warning chime (1999 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo). I have not had it repaired because I can't afford the expense. I don't know if the airbag will deploy when it shouldn't or if it will not deploy when it should. I have seen the same complaint on this safety website and think it should be addressed by Jeep.

The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Laredo. The contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 111,000. The current mileage was approximately 113,000.
Air bag warning light started coming on intermittently indicating malfunction in airbag deployment system. Took to dealer who determined there was a defective "clock spring" in the steering column causing the airbag malfunction. (note that this has nothing to do with any "clock" but was told this is the electrical connection between the drivers airbag and the steering column wiring harness). The part was replaced for $350 by dealer but was not covered under the extended warranty from Jeep that we had purchased. Called Jeep extended warranty number and was told tough luck, part not covered.
