My headlights turned off for about 5-7 seconds before coming back on again. This happened while I was doing 55mph in a very dark area and made it very difficult to see the road as there were no other cars around. This was quite scary as I had my 6 month old daughter in the car with me. The following morning my headlights turned on and off again 2 times quickly in a row while I was on the freeway traveling at 70 mph. Again my daughter was with me on my way to daycare. This is very dangerous as I cannot see the road and it also appears as if I am flashing my lights at other drivers. Hopefully when I take my vehicle to the dealership this week it can be resolved but judging on the complaints here if I can't duplicate the problem they can't fix it. This is a completely random event that has happened a few times now and is becoming more frequent. It sounds like I'm not the only one having this problem.
I have a Jeep Liberty (2004, 2wd, v6) and have a problem with the headlights turning off for a second and then back on for no apparent reason. When this happens the relay can be heard opening and closing. Unfortunately I have not been able to find an accurate electrical schematic (the one in the hayes book does not seem to agree with the wiring in the car). The vehicles headlights will flash on and off while driving. It will be intermittent and last for 1-5 seconds. They then have always come back on and stayed on but we never know when it will happen or if the lights will come back on. This has happened several times and there is always a clicking sound in the dash. This is a very dangerous situation. After searching this issue on the internet it seems to be an on going problem covering several years of Jeep Liberty. I can not believe that Chrysler has not been made to fix this safety issue. What will it take to make this happen? I guess no one was killed or maybe not enough people were killed yet.
Headlights began turning themselves off and on while car was driving at night along highway. Audible clicking heard each time the lights would cycle off or on.
While driving at night. Headlights go off and on. Almost every night. No one knows why it's doing this. Sometimes for 3 to 5 seconds. We need a recall on this, to find out why this is happening. Jeep dealers don't have answers for us, but they can charge us $ 75 for nothing. Some day someone is going to get hurt when lights don't come back on. Don't say we didn't warn you. While driving, the headlights click off then on, off then on. The act is sporadic and comes on with no warning. This is dangerous because the driver ahead of you thinks you are angry at them. I have taken my vehicle to my mechanic. He can not replicate the problem. Nor does his computer equipment indicate any malfunction. I know I am not alone with this problem. No one has the solution.
This is dangerous. . . You hear a clicking sound, then your headlights start flashing randomly high to low< low to high. This goes on for about 30 seconds. It is dangerous. . . . I have taken this Jeep to several places and no one can find the problem> Jeep however wants to charge me 90 to tell me they cant find the problem. I see on the internet where this has been going on for a while> you guys need to recall these Jeeps before someone gets killed>.
While driving my headlights began to turn on and off by themselves. I hear the click click like they are being turned on or off but it is happening on it's own. This has no happened multiple times and currently I can not drive it at night or during bad weather. It happens in rapidly the cars around think I am flashing lights at them. Very dangerous!.
The headlights flick on and off while driving. I can hear the headlight relay clicking when the lights cycle on and off. This is a significant safety issue and based upon the number of complaints should be addressed by Jeep.
Headlights go off then back on with a clicking sound under dash. Problem is intermittent. Chrysler case # [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
For approximately 1yr, the headlights on my Jeep Liberty sport 2004 have been flickering on and off. It use to happen only once and awhile and they would go right back on and then stay on. However recently I have been unable to drive my Jeep at night because the headlights constantly go on and off on me and sometimes stay off.
Headlights will turn off without warning at various times while driving. Interior lights remain on. Lights may flash on and off up to 4 times within a few seconds. Occurs in hot and cold weather, regardless of bumps in road, may happen just after starting to drive or after many miles. Click sound will be heard inside car when lights go out. Lights may remain off for nearly a second before coming back on. Jeep dealership unable to locate issue, told me to return when lights go out and stay out.
For over two years, my headlights have flickered. Several instances are rapid fire, a few have been for several seconds. A relay type sound will indicate that it is clicking off and on as well. No interior lights are effected. I do not drive my Jeep at night, if at all possible. If I do, I travel as close to a tractor trailer, as I can safely get. I will not drive the car out of town anymore. I reported the issue to my dealer's service department, who claimed they have never heard of the problem.
2004 Jeep Liberty- the headlights will turn off and then back on while driving and there is an audible clicking sound when this happens. It started happening about two years ago. The vehicle now has about 60,000 miles on it. We have had the car to the dealer and an independent mechanic and they both say they can not determine intermittent problems. I just googled about this problem and it is amazing how many Jeep owners have experienced this same problem.
Headlights go off intermittently, for 1 - 2 seconds. This seems to happen repeatedly on certain highways, while driving past the same location. The headlight relay can be heard to click off and on when this happens. The dealer checked the car for this problem 2 years ago but they could not duplicate it or find any fault in the electrical system.
Headlights intermittently flash on/off several times. I hear the relay clicking. This occurs one or two times every other day or so.
The headlights will cut off randomly when driving at night. It happens at all speeds. There is a "clicking" sound when they cut off and then back on. It seems to stop it when I manually cut the headlights off and back on. This is very dangerous and has happened many times when I driving on a freeway and also on local streets.
The headlights of my 2004 Jeep Liberty sporadically blink on and off while I'm driving. This first occurred over a year ago, which I had brought my car to the dealer's service center and was told they could not duplicate the issue. The issue seemed to have been resolved after having to replace the lamps of the headlights a few weeks after; however, has recurred over the past few months. In research I've found on-line discussions of Jeep drivers with the same issue, an issues some communicate they've reported as far back as two years ago. I find it very disturbing the dealer service center was unable to pin point the issue and now very frustrated to learn others have the same concerns and there hasn't been a recall. Please take consideration into this matter to help resolve this very dangerous issue.
