The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated the ignition rod within the steering column failed and the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a steering column problem. The steering column was replaced by the mechanic for $489 at the owners expense. Case #20734725 was filed with the manufacturer who stated that there would be no reimbursements due to the mileage, and because the vehicle was not taken to an authorized Chrysler dealer; therefore the case would be closed.
