3 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2020

Sky slider is broke and nobody has the parts to fix it. It leaks water and doesn't close all the way so the noise is awful. Only fix it to screw it shut or replace with hard roof. We need replacement parts ASAP.

4 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

It wouldn't let me click on multiple other options like the windshield. Snow blows through the front vent sometimes as I'm driving if I have it on regular heat or defrost. The breaks have always squeaked since I got the vehicle in 2018. I have to play with the seatbelt to get it to lock in place. The wheel sometimes turns on its own randomly to the left and the suspension is really off and bouncy.

5 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

Driving on the highway my sky slider folded back off the track making a horrific sound. The power button used to open and close the sky slider does not work. It just makes a grinding noise. We had to manually push the sky slider down. There is also a leaking issue when there is rain. Water pours into the vehicle from around the front interior lights on the roof between the driver and passenger seat. There is also water marks from the sky slider leaking. I also have a sensor that stays on constantly. The sensor is for low tire pressure.

6 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2018

Our 2008 Jeep Liberty has a defective sky slider roof. Despite being properly maintained, it has jumped the tracks and had to be forced closed. We are concerned about the safety if it does not remain closed while driving. We have contacted Jeep who refuses to help. After reading numerous complaints online, we are questioning why there has not been a recall as this is an obvious safety concern and can leave owners unable to use their vehicles.

7 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/11/2018

I lost control of the Jeep yesterday hit two trees head on the curtain airbags above the windows all the way down the sides deployed but the main steering airbag did not deploy nor did the passenger side airbag in the dash I was on a back road.

8 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2017

My roof sky slider has been disconnected from the track that it connects to and will not stay on the roof without manual intervention. I currently have the roof taped down so it does not fly off while driving. With the slider being disconnected, it has caused many leaks to allow water into the inside of the vehicle, damaging the roof, floorboards, and has gotten into some of the electrical areas such as overhead lights above front dash. Initial disconnect happened while driving and skyslider was closed. It started to open up in the front right corner from wind pressure and without pushing the button to open it. Upon further investigation, it has been determined that the pins that keep the slider in place disconnected and will not connect back together. Currently front passenger side, rear driver side, and rear passenger side all have disconnected pins and the slider will not stay on the roof without intervention. I have contacted Chrysler and they said that there are no recalls for this issue. This is very much a safety issue as if I were to remove the tape holding the roof down, it would fly off while driving, putting myself and others in danger. Mechanical malfunction (and poor manufacturing in my opinion) is the main problem that has caused this issue. I had used the slider less than 10 times before this happened. I contacted insurance to open a claim and they said it would fall under mechanical malfunction and that was not covered in my coverage.

9 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2017

The sky-slider literally flew off my car on the highway with my one year old daughter in the car while it was raining down! my poor baby.

10 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2017

The skyslider feature on the 2008-2012 Jeep Libertys are a monumental safety hazard. I purchased my 2008 Jeep Liberty on March 15th 2017. Within 2 weeks after buying the skysliders pins broke and the skyslider flew back covering my back window. If I had not pulled over the slider could have completely detached and caused a major multi-vehicle collision. I discovered that the pins wear easily broken because they are made of plastic. I am appalled that there has never been a recall and the manufacturer refuses to correct this, especially after reading countless forums of those who have had the same experience.

11 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2017

The vehicle was in motion going about 40 miles per hour when the sky slider roof almost came off. It started flapping very bad. I had it fixed and it is broken again.

13 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

There have been numerous complaints on online forums on the Jeep Liberty limited edition with the sky slider. Basically, there are reports on the sky slider coming off the track and flying off of the vehicle. My sky slider personally will not close because of a "system fault" Jeep tells me and only some Jeep dealerships have the knowledge on how to fix a sky slider. They want to charge $3k to fix the roof, but they are acknowledging that it is a consistent issue with this vehicle, that the sky slider will not close all the way, which results in it coming off at high speeds.

14 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2016

I was on my way back to work during my lunch hour driving on alexander st. In corpus christi texas. That street has several dips. As I drove over one of the dips the Jeep suddenly accelerated in such a speed that I was unable to stop it and it hit a parked car. My car was approximately 10 feet from the parked car which made it almost impossible for me to avoid hitting the car. I firmly believe the accident was a result of "sudden unintended acceleration" there is no other way to explain this unfortunate accident. With all the dips on that street it is impossible to speed, additionally it is right in front of a school which has a speed limit of no more than 15 mph. If this had occurred in a different area this could have been catastrophic, fatally injuring myself and family or another human being. . Read more...

15 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2016

Sky slider roof pours water into dash and steering component. Power steering has be disabled on several occasions while driving vehicle. When water pours in it saturates both driver and dashboard area running down steering column into the components. In addition, the lift of the roof causes vehicle to swerve when driving on interstate. Noise created by this defect prevents driver from hearing emergency vehicles.

16 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2015

This is our second problem since 2010 when we purchased vehicle that the slider sunroof has come off it's tracks. The first time it was about a month after we purchased it and cost 1400. 00 to fix now for no reason it just popped off and bows and track broke. Rained in her car and shorted out electrical. This is a piece of crap and when I look at all the complaints it should be something they are liable for fixing because now its going to cost 3500 and Jeep dealers are telling us they don't want to deal with it because it has been an issue from the beginning. What is wrong with this that Jeep people don't want to take responsibility for their faulty products and the NHTSA is not making them. They have quit making this for a reason. Because it was faulty and not something that would work. Now vehicle owners are stuck with no options. Please consider helping us! my daughter is in nursing school and I'm a single mother. What are our options. Jeep dealerships don't want these cars back!.

17 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

I have only owned the 08 Liberty for 3 months now and I started seeing little spots near the curtain airbags on both driver and passenger side, but when it rains a lot or I get my car washed the spots get bigger and now it's coming down from the map light which to me is very dangerous and distracting while not to mention its leaking on the cars components as well. It also has started making some lights not work. I'm not sure if I'm right but I do see spots behind the windshield so I don't know if it's the windshield but it's coming in much father now.

20 Body problem

The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer for several failures that recurred. The dealer replaced the tracking and rear passenger side handle screws, but the failure continued. 21 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2014

Two claims filed per this complaint. 1) sky slider leak; failure - overhaul/replacement required due to track/cable failure. Was leaking into vehicle, as well as leaking into dome light. Inspected per Jeep authorized dealer, confirmed sky slider no longer properly sealing and has failed, requiring total system overhaul and replacement. Referencing various NHTSA documented claims, it already a known issue and in need of resolution. . I was responsible for paying all costs associated with repair, which was over $4000. 00 total. Additionally, the vehicle has suffered a substantial drop in overall resale value due to vehicles reputation for having costly defects and overlooked for recall and warranty. Dealer performed repair at my expense, but I am currently requesting that this claim is properly reviewed for a proper, more cost-effective solution to defective unit. 2) vehicle suffers from temporary rough idle and significant drops in rpm's, nearly stalling itself out. Also begins suffering from intermittent loss of vehicle and device related functions such as loss of horn function, intermittent or partial lights function or window operation. On 2 different occasions while operating under the erratic conditions, the rear window hatch unlocked itself as though the button was hit on mfr. Key fob. These issue occurs randomly and typically last no more than 5 minutes before normal operation returns. Due to lack of information on the cause of this issue, what components are effected and what the specific defect is capable of performing, it is something needing to be looked into for proper resolution.

22 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Sunroof leaking badly noticed a small amount earlier but lately has gotten worse. Headliner is stained from the leak. Drivers floorboard is wey from leak.

23 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2014

I was driving my 2008 Jeep Liberty skyslider on a local road at around 40 mph. The roof ( a convertible type) began rattling and came off the tracks while in the close position causing the roof to fly up. I contacted Jeep and they have no remedy for this although after looking this up online, there are tons a similar incidents. A car in which the roof flies up is a major safety hazard and Jeep should be liable since this doesn't seem to be an isolated incident.

24 Body problem

30 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

The 2008 Jeep and years after all have a defective skyslider(as far as I know every single person I spoke with that has a sky slider had some malfunction) which seems to be a huge safety concern. This panoramic roof constantly malfunctions, the replacement parts cost almost a 1/4 of the vehicle cost and when it breaks it usually is not fixed properly. The concern is, it can come flying off at high speeds causing possible injury, also makes vehicle un-secure due to being accessibly by the roof, also causes rain, and other contaminants to enter the cabin area. I understand that Chrysler is under government protection due to it financial situation but there is no reason they can not recall, repair, or have a engineered replacement for this due to the amount of complaints and issues it has.

The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Rvk.

35 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2013

While driving the vehicle, water began to seep out of the maplights and down both a-frame pillars. Panoramic moon roof stopped closing all the way after a wind storm and was open enough to cause major leakage (upwards of 3 gallons of water). I feel this is defective and could have caused a major accident, as travelling at high rate of speed, this could have resulted in the roof flying open. Manufacturer has stated it is not an issue that they provide any assistance with, and the repairs will be over $7000.
