The contact shifted into neutral to stop the failure however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. The contact merged to the shoulder and powered off the vehicle. The vehicle was able to be restarted and was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician advised the contact that the accelerator sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred one year later. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000 and the current mileage was 23,000.
