Parking Brake problem #1

Abs, esp, brake light, battery and check engine light, come off and on I have took it to Jeep at two different locations, neither place has been able to resolve my problem, I even drove with tech in the car, he saw the light come on and was unable to determine the cause.

Parking Brake problem #2

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the emergency brake malfunctioned. While the vehicle was parked on an incline with the emergency brake engaged, the vehicle rolled backward. The contact was able to secure an appointment to have the failure diagnosed. The contact was concerned with the possibility of being involved in a crash. The failure mileage was 27,000.

Parking Brake problem #3

Key was stuck in ignition of 2006 Jeep Liberty limited edition. Also noticed the shifter was moving freely, without having to be pushed in like it typically would. Took to Jeep dealership & was told that entire shifter column needed to be replaced because it is plastic & breaks easily - cost $200. 00. Have heard that this is a common occurrence.

Parking Brake problem #4

My 2004 Jeep Liberty has an emergency brake that does not hold. It is a safety hazard. I took it in and had complete new brakes, incl rotors, calipers, new brakes and new emergency installed. Still rolls on slight incline with emergency engaged. I know others with the same vehicle who now tell me there's is doing the same thing. This is an obvious dangerous defect of this emergency/parking brake. I had my Jeep roll down my driveway almost injuring my cat and crashing into my garage. I had to run to get into it to apply the brake before disaster.

Parking Brake problem #5

The emergency brakes on my 2008 Jeep Liberty does not hold. I complained to 2 Jeep dealership and they said that there is no recall for my Jeep and they could replace the whole emergency brake system at my expense.

Parking Brake problem #6

Parked vehicle at gas pump. Set parking brake, left transmission in neutral (engine idling). Got out of vehicle and it then started rolling forward. The parking brake has never worked correctly since I bought this vehicle at about 14,000 miles and still doesn't even after having the parking brake shoes and springs replaced. I replaced them because the right-rear parking brake has taken to sticking while driving. A couple of times I've come home and gotten out of my vehicle to an acrid smell of burning and the excessively high temperatures coming from the right rear brakes. It's been a while since the gas-station incident happened, and the only reason it still doesn't happen is I never leave it parked out of gear anymore. The parking brake is worthless and would never be of use to stop the vehicle in an emergency where the primary braking system has failed. Someone could have been hurt or killed if I hadn't been right there to jump in my vehicle to stop it from rolling.

Parking Brake problem #7

Parking brake failure while loading my boat nearly cost my son and myself our lives. Backed truck and trailer onto ramp to load boat. Noticed the truck slipping on the ramp and suddenly rolled off the ramp hitting my boat and my son had to crawl out the door and swim for safety. He is six years old. Vehicle was not running with the transmission in gear and the parking brake engaged.

Parking Brake problem #8

I have a 2005 Jeep Liberty which was recalled back in September 2006 due to lower ball joints. ,my car was serviced back in October, and there was no mention of such recall at the time. Now that I received the notice by mail I called to have it replaced, and I then have to wait 6-8 weeks on a part that was a safety issue and could cause a death in my family, that problem was supposed to be corrected at that time of service, also the hand brake never worked the way it should since the car was mpurchased took vehicle on several ocassions to dealer, but they kept saying that nothing was wrong with it, very bad customer service, and I'm not the only one saying that, just have to listen to the people waiting on their vehicles while they were being serviced.

Parking Brake problem #9

My wife owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty car would not stop when the emergency brake was applied almost hit another car on a hill. /incline. Found that Chrysler lied about the rare emergency brake being self adjusting. We found after removal of the drum that the brake is not self adjusting. The brake needs to be adjusted everytime at the dealer. Chrysler knows about this and has hid this items from the consumer. Even auto parts shop know of this and sell an adjusting tool the adjustment needs to be made from underneath the car through a port on the inside brake hub assembly. This is a serious safety hazard that if in a crisis the emergency brakes needs to be deployed it will fail and a severe outcome is evident. There is no way a consumer can get under the car everytime to mask this adjustment. I thought it was the law to have a self adjusting emergency brake on a vehicle. I am sending the dealership a certified letter regarding this in case there is an unfavorable outcome from an event due to this safety hazard. This is an immediate safety hazard that needs immediate correction. Dealer actually allowed vehicle back on highway to consumer in a non working condition.

Parking Brake problem #10

Parking brake in place while going into store not working properly caused vehicle to roll down street causing a collision with another vehicle. Also while in vehicle stop level surface parking brake engaged vehicle in neutral car rolled 3-4 feet.

Parking Brake problem #11

2005 Jeep Liberty sport with concerns about recall on lower ball joint* the consumer was upset that know one at her local dealership mentioned the recall on the lower ball joints, despite the fact she had been there several tires to have her vehicle serviced. The emergency brake did not hold, the dealer adjusted the parking brake. The vehicle would pull to the left, the dealer performed an alignment.

Parking Brake problem #12

My 2004 Jeep Liberty was parked under my carport. I had started the engine to warm the car, with the emergency brake on. There was no one around the car but my dogs, but somehow it managed to roll down the driveway into the corner of a barn. The distance was about 10 yards with an incline of about 2 feet, yet ther was over $3000. 00 in damage to the car. It hit right in the center of the grill/hood. I was very surprised as the emergency brake was on, however on inspection, there was still one click left on the emergency brake. I have tested this theory by getting on a hill in the vehicle and pulling the emergency brake. Indeed, it does not hold the vehicle until you reach the very last click on the emergency brake. Jeep denies any product flaw when contacted. I disagree. I hate to think what will happen to me if I am ever in a wreck if a roll with no acceleration can damage the vehicle at 25% of its value!.

Parking Brake problem #13

Since purchasing the 2004 Jeep Liberty there has been a loud screeching noise for the first mile or two when the vehicle is first driven. At least 2 trips to the dealer service results in no repair. Dealers fix was to loosen the parking brake cable so that the parking brake pads did not rub on the drum. 2 years later the problem still exists!.

Parking Brake problem #14

Consumer parked the vehicle in a parking lot with the emergency brake on. When consumer returned to the vehicle he noticed that the vehicle had popped out of park and rolled into a ditch. Consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealership for inspection.

Parking Brake problem #15

Ball joint failure three times. Emergency brake on five speed never has worked properly. Replace engine at 70,000. Now the card end joint for the four-wheel drive is not working correctly. My biggest complaint is the ball joint failure for the third time. This issue also causes chain reactions in the tires I have had three sets of tires wear uneven and I wrote the company the first time to complain and got no response. I use my Jeep to make my income and do not trust it any more. I do not recommend this vehicle to any one and will not pass it on to any family member.

Parking Brake problem #16

Parking brake was too hard to set. Attempts made by dealer to remedy the problem but were not successful. Consumer believed this was safety issue and there should've been a warning in the owner's manual.
