general problems of the 2007 Jeep Patriot - part 1

The Jeep commonly chokes and dies right after a fill-up. After 30 seconds to a minute, the problem disappears. This has been happening for at least 10 years. Online data search appears to indicate that this is a common problem with Jeeps. Having your car die in traffic creates a dangerous situation.

Vehicle has had stalling issues following refueling for several years now. Aside from after refueling the stalling is unpredictable as for timing. Sometimes it stalls immediately after refueling and starting the engine, other times it will stall after I'm already in traffic several minutes later. This creates a significant safety hazard.

After getting gas. Vehicle stalls while running in drive without warning . This is going to kill someone pulling into traffic!! it takes about 3 startups and stalls than there is no issue until next gas fill up:.

After filling up at the gas station, started too drive and after a few minutes the car sputtered and stalled. Started car again and the stalling happened again. . After these 2 incidents the car was fine until next fill up. This has been going on for a few years.

Every time I fill up my 2007 Jeep Patriot with fuel when I drive off into the city streets it turns off on me and everything locks up in traffic while I'm in motion almost causing a accident every time and that's once a week can you please help me before I get killed or someone else gets killed.

Every time I fill up with gas the car makes it to the first stop sign and then just dies. I start it up and start to drive it and it dies again. I have to sit in one spot and keep trying to drive hoping it won't die and I will get hit.

After fueling I will leave the gas station and my Patriot will sputter and often die while going down the road. I believe this to be a safety issue and have seen multiple reports of this same problem. This happens every time I fill my Patriot up with fuel.

Fuel propulsion system problems. My son fills up his 2007 Jeep Patriot. I see from many post on forms this is a known problem. Why is Chrysler not faceing this problem. You fill the Jeep up and the the car stalls out and will stop dead in traffic this is so dangerous. What's being done about this why is the government not hold Chrysler responsible for this. We have tried to different gas stations and now are being told that it is a known issue.

When I fill up the car with gas after leaving and driving for 20-30 seconds and stop at the stop light or sign the car will die and the steering wheel will lock up takes a couple of tries before it will start up and cause the steering wheel locks up I can't even move the car to the side if I have to. This has been going on for the past year.

My Jeep stalls every time after I fill it with gas, I pull out in traffic and it just stalls and I have no control over steering or nothing. It is extremely dangerous.

After every fill up the car bucks and often stalls while driving all within a mile and then drives normally. Scary when it dies in traffic while driving.

Filling the vehicle with fuel causes it to buck and stall. Waiting 5-10 minutes after it stalls and the vehicle runs normally. Only happens when filling the vehicle, putting in fuel to less than full does not cause the problem. According to my mechanic, the problem may the roll over valve allowing fuel into the charcoal canister/emissions system. Car has hard time starting after short time of being shut off. Company knows of this problem, it has instructions in owners m anual on how to restart car. Sometimes it can take a long time. This can put a lot of unnecessary stress on the battery. I believe this issue should have had a recall & be fixed by company. Please note: I'm not the original owner.

After filling up at gas station and getting on highway engine shuts off after the Jeep bucked several times. When engine shut off steering wheel locked. Had to put car in neutral urn key to turn on engine. Additionally after that,Jeep continually dies immediately following fill up at gas station. It currently dies approximately 3 times in a row before the engine will stay running. This is a highly dangerous event. If it shuts off and I do not wait at the gas station while I'm driving down the road then the steering wheel locks and I could have an accident and kill myself or someone else. This is a serious situation that Jeep / Chrysler needs to fix. Was there a crash . . . Almost!.

I have a 2007 Jeep Patriot. Every single time I put gas in it, it runs a very short distance from the gas station and starts to buck and jolt like it wants to shut off. This is very dangerous if I wan to go on highway.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that whenever the vehicle was refueled, it would stall or hesitate to drive. In addition, when the vehicle came to a complete stop, it would stall and restart independently after three minutes before suddenly operating normally. The contact stated that the failure only occurred after the vehicle was refueled. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer advised the contact to take the vehicle to a local dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

Every time I fill up with gas, my vehicle will stall and/or kill. Steering wheel locks up.

Vehicle will shut off and stall after refueling. Happens shortly after vehicle has been turned on. This has happened multiple times: sometimes will stall at the gas station, sometimes while waiting at a stop light after leaving the station, or sometimes while driving. Always after refueling.

My Jeep Patriot is stalling after fueling. It seems to lose power & may sputter also before stalling. I can also smell a strong fuel or chemical smell when this happens. It has become a dangerous problem seeing as how it occurs after fueling and I have to pull out into traffic after leaving the gas stations. It has happened at large intersections where I have almost gotten hit by other vehicles or caused an accident for other motorists trying to avoid my stalled vehicle. So far, my Jeep will start after stalling so I can continue on my way. It is a very scary situation when it happens and the fear of an accident is profound.

The problem has been ongoing for over a year even after trying several different expensive corrective repairs. After refueling my Jeep Patriot, it stalls bucks and jerks. I start it up, and upon pressing the accelerator and pull away from pumps or out into traffic it begins to sputter buck and stall. It is very dangerouse esecially when pulling out of a gas station into traffic which has caused several close calls of my being hit because it has stalled in intersections and on the highway. I relaced the O2 sensor and it did not correct the situation. I used higher octane fuel and it did not correct the situation. I used fuel treatment purchased from dealership upon their advisement after replacing the fuel filter and having the fuel system serviced and it did not correct the situation.

Engine stalls several minutes after filling up the gas tank. Occurs on every fill up with gas. The stalling stops after being driving a mile to more.

Faulty rollover valve gad doesn't enter at full capacity when fueling.

After fueling with gas, my vehicle immediately stalled. It was then fine after I restarted it until I got to a roundabout where it stalled again, losing all power steering, brakes, power, speed, in heavy traffic. It was fine for a week after this until I got gas again, in which case, I was just about to enter the interstate when it stalled again, losing all of the basic functions again in rush hour traffic where I had to sit on the side of the road for 20 minutes while my vehicle ran and stalled repeatedly until it worked itself out. This is a very dangerous situation and could have been much worse had I already been on the interstate. This is a definite issue that needs to be taken seriously and fixed as I see I am not the only one that has had this issue. I got gas again last week where afterwards my Jeep stalled on main street during lunch traffic. I shouldn't have to be scared to put gas in my vehicle in case it decides to stall in another dangerous situation. I am worried about my safety and any passengers I may have with me at any point in time when it stalls and stops working completely while I am driving down any road. I am also concerned that I will be doing more wear and tear damage on my battery and starter as I am trying to restart my vehicle after it stalls on these roads with minimum to no shoulders. D/s headlight keeps going out, starter makes weird spinning noise, windows will stop working randoming and will work after car is turned off then back on, car will chug at take off from lights.

Vehicle stalls after refueling. With no power steering the vehicle is difficult to maneuver. This has happened the last three fill ups. The last was the worst because it was very difficult to restart and was in traffic. Engine sounded flooded. Had to let it set a few minutes before retrying. This needs to be recalled.

Vehicle stalls suddenly after re-fueling. This started happening a few weeks ago and now happens every time the car is re-fueled. It occurs a mile or so after leaving the gas station without warning in traffic. Defective fuel system problem is repeatable and dangerous. Get this recalled.

After refueling the vehicle will sputter and die causing loss of steering and propulsion. This causes a grave safety problem as it usually occurs while pulling out in an intersection putting the driver and all passengers at risk. This occurs for the first few miles after fueling and does not occur again till the next fill up. I am willing to demonstrate this for a NHTSA inspector if the are willing to investigate this safety issue as I see several others are having the same problem. Just search google.

Everything I fill up with gas the Jeep dies pulling away from the pump. Sometimes you can get out in traffic and it will die while traveling slow. You have to stop restart the engine and hold you're foot on the gas and brake to keep the engine running at a stop. Could be dangerous if the Jeep dies in the middle of a busy intersection.

After refueling my 2007 Jeep Patriot the car will stall in the middle of the intersection. The oil light comes on and the abs lock up. You have to turn the car on and off a few times it then sputters and will jump when accelerating. This has happened every time after the car has been filled with gas. It is getting harder an harder to re start when it stalls in the middle of the street on the way home from the gas station.

Every time after I put fuel in my Jeep, it will stall 2 to 3 times when idling or going under a certain speed. This gets extremely dangerous at intersections, especially when you're trying to turn and it stalls out mid-turn. The problem started sporadically at first, but now it happens every single time that I put fuel in my Jeep. Before finding this site, I did a ton of research online and it looks like a lot of people are having this same problem with their Jeep. Chrysler should look into this issue because it can be very dangerous.

When I pump gas my car rejects the gas when I know it isn't full. The gas shutoff at the station will kick and not allow gas to pump into my car. 2nd, after pumping gas my car will throttle up and down and then shut off whenever I stop. I have to put the car into park and turn it back on and shift to drive. 3rd, after turning on my car, I try to shfit out of park. The car will not shift out of park and my brake lights are not working. I replaced the brake shift light about a month ago and it worked fine until today. Now once again, I cannot get my car out of park. The other 2 issues have been ongoing since September and I have been able to manager them and still drive the vehicle.
