Both front seat belt buckles are difficult to release. When the red release button is fully depressed, the metal seat belt latch plate/tongue frequently remains stuck inside the buckle instead of releasing normally. The belt must be manipulated, pulled, or repeatedly pressed before it will release. The problem occurs with both the driver and front passenger seat belts and is reproducible. This creates a safety concern because the driver or passenger may not be able to quickly remove the seat belt and exit the vehicle, particularly following a crash or other emergency. There are no warning lights or messages associated with the problem. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer or repair facility. The seat belt buckle assemblies are currently available for inspection.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that when stapping a safety seat in the vehicle, the center seat belt stated to tread. The driver side seat belt also was splitting in two. The vehicle was take to a dealer where the center seat belt was replaced. The driver side seat belt was not replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 155,898. Aw.
I bought my Jeep to be a safe family vehicle and instead I worry every time I get behind the wheel because I buckle my seat. I have been in a head on collision before in a Jeep wrangler and was fortunate to be okay, now this vehicle's seatbelt unbuckles itself during driving, and when pressure is being applied. I know that it is not "user error" because it happens to every person who has driven my Patriot. How am I supposed to feel safe with my infants in the car when I can't even feel safe with just me in it?!.
Driving on the highway the driver side seat belt came off from its mount the bolt had fallen out. The sunroof had been previously replaced by the dealer and I suspect they had removed the seat belt mounting bolt to remove headliner, inspection of the bolt show no application of threadlocker. I reinstalled the bolt with threadlocker and torqued as per spec for the bolt size.
