Car stalls after fill up. Numerous online Jeep forums have noted this issue for years. There seems to be an issue with the “vapor canister”. Recall was apparently issued for 2011 model - but not older models. It is intermittent yet consistent problem over past few months. Please note that an engine stall leaves steering wheel locked and unable to maneuver car for a period until can restart. Can leave driver on a very dangerous situation traveling at speed !.
Unknown after I fill up on gas at different stations I had the car sputter and die after filling up til the nozzle stopped itself went to go start the car the first time it happened I got maybe half a mile down the road and stopped at a light and the car died. The second time I was at another gas station and I forgot to shut the car off because it was freezing cold felt like a negative 10 I went to go leave and thought OH crap let me shut it off for a second so the gas would register faster of what I had then if I left it on. I went to go drive away then and the car wouldn’t move I thought great what could it be well I looked down and I wasn’t “on” so I restarted the car and I could tell the car started and I sat for a few and it died. I waited a few seconds and started it again and sat for a few and then was able to go about my business. The third time I filled up and didn't think anything of it because it had been awhile since it happened but I pulled out on the street and it was at a t intersection and I was coming up and to the left well when I turned I died and the light had changed to green I was barely able to make it into the turn lane from when I coasted I shut it off and turned it back on again and we were good. Well this is what happened last night I went to the gas station filled up and sat there for a second and went to start car and it died I wait a few did it again it died. I did this like 4-5 times and I wasn't far from home so I said let's just hurry up and get home. So I got it started and I was pushing the gas as little to keep it from dying and it made it about a mile down the road and acted like it was about to shut off. I made it home sat in the driveway for about 20 mins and it acted fine.
I'm able to put my 2008 Jeep Patriot in gears bit when I put it into drive my veichle won't move forward. Before this happens my thermostat transmission O2 heat sensor came on and was difficult to gain speed. I would have to pull over and shut my Jeep off and let it cool off before starring it back and was fine after the sensor went off.
After filling up the gas tank the vehicle jerks wildly, several times the vehicle has shut off in the middle of the highway and almost caused a wreck, I am terrified I'll end up causing an accident or possibly killing someone. The issue my mechanic said is in the vapor/fuel separator valve that goes to the charcoal box.
Takata recall battery light/ altinator.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that the air conditioner leaked onto the engine cradle and caused severe corrosion. The dealer where it was confirmed that the air conditioner discharge on the engine cradle caused the corrosion, and the engine panel needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

While driving the vehicle at 45 mph, the electronic stability program indicator light came home causing the speed to immediately drop down to 20mph. I was able to pull the car over and turn the engine off. I waited and the car started back up fine. The next day, while driving, the electronic throttle control light came on and immediately shut my car off. I was able to force the steering wheel to turn into a parkin spot. After trying to crank the car, it finally started and the light didnt come on. The next day, had the oil changed and new spark plugs put in. The car drove fine at first and then all of a sudden while on a busy highway, the spped dropped to 10mph. I was able to keep going and stop and turn the vehicle off. It took several attempts to restart the vehicle but finally got it. This vehicle is extremely dangerous and needs a recall to have this taken care of!!! it is going to take someone getting seriously injured to have something happen.
I got this Jeep 2 months ago from a dealership in san antonio. On maybe about 5 occasions when I was at a stop light the whole engine shook like it was just going to turn off, luckily it never did. That is until yesterday, I got to a stop light heading home from work and it just turned off on me. No shaking this time, no warning at all. The radio and everything stayed on so I knew it wasn't the battery, and it wouldn't even crank when I tried turning the key just stayed silent. Mind you since there was no warning and I'm the only one in the car a 5'0" 118 lb woman not going to be able to push it somewhere safe all I could do was throw my emergency lights on and hope I didn't get rear ended with everyone leaving work (5 o' clock traffic was just starting) which I did almost get hit at least 3 times! after a couple minutes I tried again and it turned back on. I pulled into a parking lot and got on the phone with my dealership they're so incompetent though I already know they're going to say they can't find out why it happened. This has never happened to me before and I was freaking out looking in the rear view mirror seeing cars slamming on their brakes. This needs to be fixed ASAP!.
Car was driving on highway approx 50 mph and lost power and turned off. Jeep was unable to diagnose problem or provide parts.
1. My daughter took her car in because it would not start and the mechanic told her the transmission was going. He finally got it started and she limped it home. July 22nd 2. My daughter was driving to work one week later and her car lost power and shut down on the highway, I called aaa and had it towed to dealer. August 2nd. He kept it for a week testing for issues. 3. I drove the car to work and when I tried to go home it would not start. I towed it to a Jeep dealer who figured out the problem and charged me $390. 00 to fix it. August 15.
The throttle control light came on while driving and the car's speed dropped to zero causing me to quickly pull off the road, it would not accelerate. The mechanic found that the throttle control module/throttle body has to be replaced. This part is currently on national backorder since there are over 700 other Jeep owners with this same issue. This is a dangerous malfunction since your car just dies in the middle of traffic and you could easily be in a severe accident due to the malfunction. This seems to be happening to hundreds of other Jeep owners, it seems like this should be a recall for a part malfunction.
On any hot day in the summer or spring or winter, or a drive over 2 hours the engine transmission light comes on and the speed reduces to 40 or 35 mph immediately from highway speeds the only remedy is to pull over on the highway, when there is no place to stop I am causing continuous damage to my vehicle, and every 10 to 20 miles it happens, unless I drive 50 mph. It dangerous, and I would like a recall so that I can safely drive my car.
While driving cross country from ohio to nevada the engine abruptly, without any warning quit running. The engine light did not come on; the temperature gauge was normal; I was continually watching the dash to try to keep the rpms steady (while climbing grades) at approx. 3000 rpm max. For fuel economy. This occurred on I-80 in the middle of wyoming. Fortunately ( luckily) I was in the right hand lane so I was able to coast to the berm. While waiting 1. 5 hour for a tow truck I occasionally tried to start the engine. It would turn over but not start. After a 30 minute drive on the tow truck to the nearest dealership, apparently the problem cooled and the engine did start. The next day while driving up a steep grade the vehicle lurched. I took it the dealership in reno nv. There is a service bulletin already in existence to update the software in this vehicle's computer and to include a new flash drive for the transmission solenoid. They would not guarantee that this would solve the problem. I have driven nearly 3000 miles since then without a problem. How could my local dealership ( brunswick ohio) not have alerted me to needing a software update? I had the Jeep there 4 days before leaving on this trip for the "lifetime poweretrain warranty" inspection. Then, 300 miles after the software update in reno. The right rear wheel bearing failed. Why didn't that dealership check for wheel wobble while they performed their complimentary 22 point safety check? what's up with Jeep? my 2000 cherokee with 170,000+ miles has not had any problems like this; only normal wear repairs.
When driving my Jeep in the warmer months, if I travel for more than 30 miles or so the transmission light comes on and then the vehicle seizes. This happens without much notice and last week my daughter was almost involved in an accident because the car just stopped in the middle of the road. Driving on the san diego 405 freeway is dangerous enough however; I am going to land up getting killed if this is not taken care of. I have contacted my dealer and they say there is nothing they can do about it. Will it take a class action suit before Chrysler decides to recall this extremely serious condition???.
Whenever I use my heater it leaks a lot of water all over the drivers feet and passengers feet. Also, it leaks so much that you can actually hear the water swishing from side to side behind the dash when you take a turn. This water is very hot and gives you a shocking sensation when it drips on you. The very first time I felt it drip onto me it soaked my shoe and then I eventually felt it through my shoe, while I was driving. I immediately pulled my vehicle over and jumped out of the car and removed my shoe and sock because the water was so hot that it gave me the sensation of something biting me. I thought it was fire ants inside my shoe. This is a dangerous issue. Luckily, I was in a low speed limit neighborhood to where I was able to pull over right away without causing disruption.
On my 2008 Jeep patrtiot, on braking, usually when coming to a stop at a traffic light or stop sign, most of the dash lights, including 4wd, abs and esp, come on briefly. This has happened many times over the past couple of years, beginning at about 35,000 miles. Usually, the only symptom of the problem is the dash lights come on accompanied by a warning chime, but the engine remains running. Recently, however, it seems to be happening more frequently, and even more worrisome, is the fact that the engine sometimes dies when this happens. This morning, the lights came on, the warning chime sounded and the engine died when I was turning a corner, causing me to lose forward progress, power steering, etc. I have had the vehicle to a Jeep dealer and an independent garage, and neither has been able to diagnose or fix the problem.
Electronic throttle control failure. While traveling on interstate 8 in arizona warning light came on resulting in engine running rough and brakes not operating correctly. When taken to dealer in yuma, ariz (fisher Jeep) I was told to shut it off and see if it would reset on it's own. This seemed to work, but I was told there was no way to check this unless it failed completely. I contacted the mfgr and they confirmed what the dealer said. They also said this item (etc) is only covered for 3 years under warranty. Since I only have a few months left I am afraid this will fail and leave me with a very expensive repair bill.
