Tl the contact owns a 2009 Jeep Patriot. Each time the fuel tank was refilled, the vehicle stalled and the steering wheel seized. When the vehicle was restarted, the vehicle operated normally. The contact was not aware of any warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to southern Chrysler Jeep greenbrier (located at 1414 s military hwy, chesapeake, va 23320, (757) 424-4600) where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.

2 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2012

When filling the car with gas at the pump, it fails to shut off when full and pours from the tank nozzle neck and splashed down the side of the car as well as the individual filling the tank with gas. The only reason that the gas ceases to flow out of the tank is due the safety feature of the pump nozzle when it shuts down. After researching this problem online, I have learned that it is a common occurrence with this model Jeep. The is not an occasional occurrence, but one which happens every time the car is filled regardless of how the pump nozzle is place in the filler neck.
