1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2023

I was on the freeway going about 75mph when all of a sudden it lost acceleration I couldn't get it to go more to 35 or 40 mph in and gear. Pulled to the side and let it sit for like 15 mins and it started up normal drove fine for a little bit. Then I went the back way home and didn't go over 50mph and it was fine got home and parked. Next morning went to leave and like 5 miles down the road only doing like 40 mind you. It completely goes out no acceleration just revs. Towed it home now it still starts and goes into gear but won't move just acts like its still in park.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2021

Transmission started with a whining sound, then the check engine light came on, the SUV then began to sputter, then it stopped accelerating on the interstate. I pulled off to the side to restart my vehicle and it ran fine for a few miles and began to do this again. Something with the cvt transmission. Going to cost a fortune to fix. Chrysler should be responsible. This is a dangerous glitch in their vehicles.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2019

Vehicle in motion - cut off/loss of power when accelerating from ramp onto busy highway with my 2 year old in vehicle [cause unknown, vehicle is not throwing any codes] vehicle in going from stationary to in motion - when going to make a left turn out of a shopping center car staled with me and my 2 year old in it, with on coming traffic. Quickly put car in park, car would not start, had a long start, electrical system freaked out, I could not stop it by turning off the key, key wouldnt move. [unknown cause] vehicle in motion - bucking and staling after filling up with gas [cause unknown, could be vapor/liquid separator valve] vehicle stationary - when fueling, after removing nozzle sound of air being sucked into the gas tank [vapor/liquid separator valve at top of fuel tank] vehicle stationary/running - at idle car randomly drops rpms and tries to stall [unknown cause] vehicle in motion - grinding sound while driving, loss in the ability to respond quickly to pushing on gas pedal, causing an overload on cvt transmission [unknown cause, maybe drive train] vehicle in motion - when driving whining sound [unknown cause] mixed advice from mechanic some say could be cvt transmission others have cited technical repair notice for whining of power steering. This has been going on randomly since Feb 2018.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

My 2010 Jeep Patriot was purchased at Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler dealership in jax FL off blanding blvd. I have had my vehicle since may 2018 and have not been able to drive it in almost 3 months due to transmission that is to costly to fix. It broke down in August 2018, got it fixed in October 31st 2018 and it broke down on me again on November 3rd 2018. I don't understand why there has not been a recall on these vehicles because all the reports I read on them are complaints about these cvt transmissions that's in them. I got another transmission and it's doing the same thing.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2017

Automatic transaxle overheating. Very dangerous to happen specially if you are in the freeway. I believe that they make this model thinking that drivers will consider not to accelerate speed in a hot climate. Car is at 75 mph in the freeway on a hot climate of 80f.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

My sister was driving my vehicle. She felt car wheels pulling to one side. Vehicle began to veer out of control where she tried to stablize. Picture taken after accident shows that bottom frame of vehicle became unattached from vehicle. The vehicle did not hit another vehicle or anything else solid. The vehicle was in motion on two way street where the vehicle was keeping straight with no turns.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Patriot. While driving various speeds, the vehicle would hesitate without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v668000 (seat belts, air bags); however, the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 34,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2016

While driving on the highway for approximately an hour, going from 65-75 mph, and occasionally using the cruise control, the transmission overheat light turned on. I slowed to about 60 mph and exited at the next off ramp, which was slightly uphill. While in motion, the vehicle lost power. I used the remaining momentum to pull over to the shoulder and turned off the vehicle. I read the manual, which states to let the transmission cool down and then continue driving. I did as it said and continued to my destination without the warning light returning, but the car felt sluggish and the automatic transmission was shifting roughly. I was not towing or carrying anything in the car. The car has about 58,000 miles, is serviced regularly, and has not had any problems before this.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

While driving at highway speeds the transmission began to make a loud whirring sound. Suddenly the transmission overheat light turned on and I lost power. First dropping from 75 to 40 miles per hour and ultimately to 0 miles per hour. This left me in the middle of nowhere for 30-40 minutes while I waited for the cvt to cool down. This has happened 2 additional times. Each time the dealership has pulled fluid and stated that they could find no problem. The warranty is about to expire, and it appears after researching online, that this is a common problem with the cvt on both the Patriot and compass.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

When braking, the Jeep seems to loose rear control features. The same often occurs when slowly accelerating. It has "shifted" from one side to the other at times when general straight road driving occurs. Speeds have never exceeded 30 mph. Braking loss of rear control occurs at speeds never exceeding 5 miles an hour.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

While driving on I-75 in June 2014 the Jeeps temp. Light went on regarding the transmission was overheating and started to slow down. I pulled off the and was lucky to find a Jeep dealer. I explained what happened, and the dealer checked the trans fluid and said it was fine he also said it was the heat from the highway and the outside temp was 90 degrees. We continued and the car ran fine after that. The same thing happened on Sunday sept 21 2014 driving through PA. On I-80 the light went on and slowed down the outside temp. Was about 72 degrees and I was going about 70 mph. , I had to go on the soft shoulder and wait. I shut the engine of a waited about 15 min. I started the car the light went off and we drove to clarion PA. To a motel. Next day we left the motel and drove to IL. The light never went on again. I believe this is a major problem due to the fact that the Jeep automatically slowed down in heavy high speed traffic. It put me in a dangerous position. Even in the manual it states that this can happen and the Jeep will downshift to protect the transmission. . Page 367- 6 and I was not towing. I feel Jeep has to recall and correct this problem before someone gets into and accident and killed. . .

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

Back in June while driving to florida from illinois I was going about 70 mph. In georgia while on I-75 the little red transmission caution light appeared and my 2010 Jeep began to slow down and scared the hell out of me. I got off the next exit and was lucky to find a Jeep dealer near the exit. The dealer took me right in and checked the transmission fluid and it was fine. She never charged me and we went on our way. Drove to miami and back to illinois a week later with no problem. 2 weeks ago I drove to nyc and on my way back to illinois on I-80 the light went on again with no exit in sight, again the Jeep slowed I pulled on the shoulder. Shut the engine off waited 15 min then started to drive again no problem. My main concern is why this happened? and its not a safe feature this slowing down of the Jeep can cause an accident. . Also why the Jeep book states on page 367 (see attached) that this can occur when the transmission gets too hot. I was not towing in either case. . This Jeep needs to be recalled for my safety. .

13 Power Train problem

The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that the transmission overheated and the gear shifter could not be moved to shift gears. The transmission overheating warning light illuminated as the failure occurred. The failure was recurring. The dealer performed a diagnostic which was unable to locate a failure code. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 55,000.
