1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2024

The airbag light keeps coming on and off consistently.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2024

The component that failed was the front, driver's side subframe. This component and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The sudden and unexpected failure of the subframe on the vehicle, due to excessive rust corrosion, precipitated a series of hazardous events that significantly compromised not only my own safety but also the safety of others on the road. While driving at a low speed, the detachment of the wheel hub and cv axle joint led to a complete loss of vehicle control. This mechanical failure was further exacerbated by the total loss of transmission fluid, which leaked onto the road, potentially creating a slippery and dangerous surface for other road users. The culmination of these mechanical failures resulted in having been stranded in the middle of a busy intersection, a location where a major freeway on and off ramp intersect with a significant artery of traffic. This situation placed myself in immediate danger, exposed to the risk of collision from oncoming traffic. Moreover, the unexpected presence of my immobilized vehicle in the intersection also posed a significant risk to other drivers, who may have had to make sudden maneuvers to avoid a collision. This could have led to secondary accidents, endangering even more road users. The problem was confirmed by an independent insurance agent, and therefore, the vehicle and failed subframe were inspected by insurance representatives. There were no warning lamps or messages from the electronic vehicle information center, nor were other symptoms of the problem apparent immediately prior to the failure.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2023

The is corrosion on frame and crossbars my Jeep is rotting away, as 2nd owner with 85 thousand miles this shouldn’t be rusting away, dealer and Jeep will do nothing as saying corrosion warranty and extended coverage x69 front rear crossmembers expired.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2022

Jeep Patriot 2011 latitude with severe corrosion to front and rear subframe assemblies. Noted for recent emergence of clunking sound on front end when passing over dips and bumps. Made arrangement for towing of vehicle to personal mechanic to check out and also make state inspection. Noted to have severe fracture of front subframe then resting on axle and wheel assemblage parts. Rear subframe member in same condition with ability to poke holes through structural member. Conditiion resulted in failure to pass inspection. Vehicle deemed unsafe to drive. Further deterioration expected with potential for loss of steering or wheel falling off. Liability for accident or bodily harm in potential failure noted. Vehicle later towed to another mechanic with same determination. Vehicle towed to local body shop where insurance agent denied accountability for collision or comprehensive coverage. Damage initially assessed at about $900 per part with accessory components to be added at discovery. Issue is well known to manufacturer via many complaint website postings I have since learned. Vehicle towed to another body shop which will assess and complete repair if practical. Second shop said they had repaired similar vehicle for same problem recently. Noted that subframes were manufactured in mexico. This is inappropriate for regional application in pennsylvania noted for harsh climate and road treatment. That vehicle was restored with canada manufactured part of heavier gauge and quality. My vehicle is low mileage at 79000 miles, garage kept, driven locally only;engine fine. I have 2008 town and country chryler and 2018 Chrysler pacifica with no obvious signs of such wear. The corrosive factor accelerated since last inspection in Dec 2021. There were no warning lights or signs upon emergence of the problem. This is serious safety issue where unexpectedly steering loss or wheel displacement could result in accident to self or others or crash.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2022

Subframe rust so bad that the car has subsequently been deemed unsafe to drive. It is available for inspection. Safety put at risk due to insufficient support of frame at contact points of steering and stability mechanisms. Presently, vehicle has. Not been inspected by anyone other than myself and personal mechanic. There was absolutely no safety light, warnings or otherwise to indicate a problem. This apparently has been an ongoing issue with this year/make/model which absolutely needs to initiate a recall.

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2021

Every single time after putting gas, my car wont go further than 10 feet without turning off/stalling. Some times it wont turn back on and takes several tries to get it back up and running. I feel at risk for my life and those in the car with me because not only does it stall but my steering wheel locks everytime and I am unable to move or do anything. God forbid one day it stops and a car is headed in my direction I will be stuck in place. I have read online multiple people have had this issue but no one can seem to find a definitive solution. This started to happen around winter of 2019/spring 2020 and has been happening ever since. The date I recorded below is the most recent time it's occurred.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2021

Structural issue/rust - engine cradle - front cross member rusted through on underside of Jeep. The car broke down while we were traveling and had to have a cross member replaced at a dealership. The car ran but was noisy and unsafe to drive, and we were 4 hours from home. Despite having an oil change recently, we were not warned of the issue. The replacement cost about $1500 out of pocket.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2021

The subframe and rear are rusting and the vehicle won't pass inspection and the vehicle is dangerous on the road if the vehicle passes inspection and out of no wear the rust hits and the vehicle is now very unsafe. Jeep knows about the issue but has never issued a recall. They really should issue a recall. Thanks.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2021

When it rains the sun roof leaks inside of the car through the interior light.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2020

Crossbar is rusting through. I was told the repair was covered under the x69 extended warranty, but it would still cost me $975 for the repair.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2020

My Jeep started throwing codes p0420, which is saying the catalyst efficiency is below threshold, aka catalytic converter. There have been recalls for this make, model, and year already. I find it hard to believe my car just so happens to not be one of the vehicles to be recalled. Its effecting drive performance and the emissions its producing in the air could be unsafe.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2019

Vehicle stalls and power steering fails after filling gas tank. This happens either immediately, or a few miles away regardless of speed. Vehicle will abruptly and violently buck, then stall minimum of two times.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2019

I have notice a recall on frobt and rear subframe rust and prefoartions and cross memver. Mechanic says subfranes are rusted all the through and broke. He states car is too new for this to be gappening. Jeep has been a hassle-sibe already replaced $1500 worth of2 a arns/control arns at firestone. Bidy is rusting and car is well cared fir- sibe I have been fighting cancer and this is and has been my onlt transportation fir car. I am asking why nt car is not under any of the recalks but ine cheaper service recalk-as it certainly falls under all the recalls currently the 2011 heep Patriot has on it. Ver disappointed and would appreciate any help I can receive in this matter. Also-Jeep has always oulled to the right since I bought it-got car alignment still oulls to the right. Again-Jeep has been a gassle to own. I biught brand new.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

Three times our 2011 Jeep Patriot sounded like something broke then went into limp mode. We were on a busy freeway twice and getting ready to get on once. After calling good sam roadside assistance they sent a tow truck to a mechanic. We had two different mechanics at 2 different times and they could not get any codes on it. A few years back when on a different incident we went into limp mode and ended up replacing the control module which fixed it. This time was different. I was done after three times. We ended up trading it in for a new Honda crv. Will never buy another Jeep again. We are surprised they never recalled the problem with the control module. I have all receipts and proof.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2019

Went to get a sticker and they let me know that it would not pass due to a rusted/corrosive sub frame. Researched online and noticed many complaints of this with many Jeep Patriots of many years. Why hasn't this been changed or recalls done.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

My catalytic converter is failing and the sensors are coming on. It needs to be replaced ,I am losing power in my vehicle which is dangerous on the highway. I saw on the news that there is a recall for 2011 Jeep Patriot which I have but my VIN number shows its not on the list. How is this possible?.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2018

Takata recall I am pregnant and Jeep can not offer me any safety resolution,I could get into a accident and killyself amdy child I feel something needs to be done . Also my front and back subfram is totally rusted out and they want to charge me for a whole lot of other things to do something with this. Help please I need to feel safe in my vehicle.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2018

Vehicle will stall while in operation and the motor will completely stop and the steering will lock-up. A sensor is being triggered referred to as a "crankshaft position sensor". Was told that this sensor needed be replaced as well as the wiring harness that goes to the sensor. Jeep is doing nothing about this serous safety issue and is placing the labor and cost of repair on me the "consumer". There appears to be some history of this happening with other various years of this same vehicle and they need to do a recall for all vehicles. My vehicle was being diagnosed for 10 hours and still wasn't repaired because they didn't have the parts to fix the problem. This also happens while the vehicle is idle and randomly won't start on occasion. This has been going on now for several months and affects the rpms, which bounce from around 4,000 to 2,000 and the overall fuel consumption. I have been getting horrible fuel mileage because of this. It also has something to do with the factory installed auto-start, which won't work because of these non-functioning sensors.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2018

Involved in rear end collision 11/16/18. The vehicle was stationary when hit from the rear at 20-30 mph. Active headrest system deployed on the drivers seat but failed to deploy on the passenger side. The airbag light is not illuminated showing a deployment.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2018

Requested a total of $5,102. 35 for diagnosis and repairs for a well-documented faulty cvt transmission which started failing after around 90k miles, despite taking excellent care of the vehicle.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2018

Faulty irreparable cvt transmission which gave out on me on a notoriously high-traffic freeway. Recurring issue among Jeep Patriot owners. Jeep finally stopped using this faulty transmission in their 2014 models.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2018

Crankshaft position sensor a faulted on the highway. Unable to turn steering wheel to the right and speed didn't go above 40 mph. Engine shut off during the event as well.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2017

Takata recall. I was driving my Jeep on September 9, 2017 and just stopped accelerating when I was driving. I was pushing the gas and was still decreasing in speed. My Jeep stop in the middle of the highway. A police officer and the firefighter had to push my vehicle out of the road so I wouldn't get hit. I was a scary experience for me. Thank god my girls wasn't in the car but my sister and niece were so this issue need to be addressed. My Jeep is currently parked in my yard.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

I have had my car stall on the highway at a high speed and also at low speed at least 7 times since I have owned it. I have contacted a Jeep dealer and also Jeep customer service. They will not fix under a recall. I have researched this problem a lot and it has happened several times to several people.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2017

On may 18th 2017 my daughter had a crash that resulted in her death while driving her 2011 Jeep Patriot. She ran of of a fm road, jumped a small drainage culvert on a downgrade. Continued straight and hit another drainage culvert a little larger with cement around it on an upgrade with the passenger side front tire. On the other side of the culvert was a stop sign at an intersection. The stop side broke off damaging the windshield and roof on the passenger side. Then the vehicle continued into a private yard where the Jeep came to rest. The Jeep has a standard transmission and was found in 5th gear. A parametric lived close by and attended to her right away but was unable to revive her. The side curtain airbags both deployed and her seat belt locked although when the seat belt locked is not known. The front air bag did not deploy. This vehicle is involved in an incomplete recall without remedy pertaining to the occupant restraint system dated September 13th 2016. Fca recall s61. Nhtsa recall number 16v-668.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2017

I purchased this vehicle last fall in a private sale. The vehicle appeared to be in good condition and well taken care of. About two weeks after acquiring this vehicle, I was driving along the interstate on a 50 minute trip and the vehicle began to slow down despite being on cruise control. The transmission light came on and I pulled to the side of the road where I waited for 10 minutes and begain driving again. Since this incident in the fall of 2016, the same thing has happened about 10-15 times-including today, a rainy 70 degree day driving the nearly flat route from Lincoln to omaha nebraska. I understand Jeep has come forward to say this is not a mountain traveling vehicle (very strange Jeep because, well it's a trail rated Jeep after all). Not only is this a nuisance that I cannot drive my work route for 45 minutes without having to pull off of the road at least once but everytime I do, it puts me in a life jeopardizing situation on the side of the interstate where the speed limit is 75mph. This issue needs to be resolved by Jeep. I know others are having similar issues because google was able to guess the problem after typing only the words "2011 Jeep Patriot. " please address the problem, Jeep, and make this right for everyone who continues to invest and support your (typically) wonderful products.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2017

For the past 3 weeks the vehicle will randomly not start. It will eventually start after several attempts. It acts like its not getting fuel ant the "etc" warning light comes on. Recently my wife was driving on the expressway at 60 mph and the car suddenly stalled in the middle lane without any warning lights. She was eventually able to get it restarted and drive home. I have had it at the mechanic several times and cannot duplicate the starting issue or stale issue. Replaced relays after reading that there are known issues with relay box due to corrosion and placement of relays in wheel well but this didn't help. There is obviously a serious computer / electrical problem with this model. I have read dozens of posts about very similar issue and unfortunately found that there is no fix from dealers and no information about possible causes. I'm very concerned with the staling issue since it is extremely unsafe. Please help.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2016

My Patriot with 108k miles stalled at 75 mph on the highway 3x last night on a 3 hour drive. It also stalled 4x times today on my 10 min way to drop it off at the dealership. Once while idling and 3x while driving at different speeds. Once while I was turning. I've read online that this has been happening quite a bit to 2011 Jeep Patriots and even caused a car to be totalled. Please investigate this.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2016

Sunroof leaks when it rains. I've had it in for repair at least 4 times. I purchased the vehicle used and we were in a drought, so it took about a year before we had significant rain. When it rains a moderate amount, water pours out of the overhead lights and side panels and soaks the floor boards and front console. The mechanics have been unable to duplicate the issue by running water on the sunroof and/or running the vehicle through the carwash, so they've been unable to figure out how to fix it. A quick internet search reveals that this seems to be a common problem that Jeep will not acknowledge. I already have significant water stains on the interior roof of the car, and it's just a matter of time before it shorts out the electronics. Step up and fix the known defect, Jeep!!.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2016

I will be driving my Jeep Patriot and it will just stall out. I have to wait for a while and it starts up. It will again stall or run fine for awhile. The last time I was entering the 10fwy in los angeles and it stalled nearly causing a major accident. I had my 3 young kids with me. Now it sits in my garage as I make monthly payments. Help me.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

While accelerating to merge onto the interstate, at around 55-60 mph, the engine stalled with no power to accelerate further or exit oncoming traffic. I coasted to the emergency lane off the side on the interstate. After stopping, the vehicle was placed in park and turned off. The first attempt to restart resulted in still no acceleration although engine started. The second attempt to restart was successful and I was able to drive at full speed to the next exit. Very frightening. I've never had a vehicle stall on the interstate before.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

Anti-lock braking system light turned on, then the anti-skid light turned on, then vehicle engaged in four wheel drive on its one. Rear passenger side wheel locked up and vehicle swerved to the right off the road.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2015

While driving home at approximately 35 mph in our 2011 Jeep Patriot the engine just shut off with out warning, total loss of power. We managed to coast to the side of the road, put on the emergency 4 way flashers and put the vehicle in park. We attempted to start the car several times to no avail. When attempting to start the car it just kept trying to turn over, we couldn't even get it out of park to try and start it in neutral. A search on the internet shows that this is becoming a common occurrence with the 2011 Jeep Patriots regardless of the mileage. I think its time for a recall before something serious happens on a highway and someone gets killed.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2015

I was on a short trip when a car behind me frantically waved me to stop and informed me that my Jeep was on fire. The exhaust burnt a whole through the rear bumper and melted the bumper. I had no indication that this was happening.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

Sunroof leaks after snowfall; as it melts, water collects in the dome light and pours out like a waterfall while driving. No electrical issues yet, but two occurrences so far.
