3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

Three times our 2011 Jeep Patriot sounded like something broke then went into limp mode. We were on a busy freeway twice and getting ready to get on once. After calling good sam roadside assistance they sent a tow truck to a mechanic. We had two different mechanics at 2 different times and they could not get any codes on it. A few years back when on a different incident we went into limp mode and ended up replacing the control module which fixed it. This time was different. I was done after three times. We ended up trading it in for a new Honda crv. Will never buy another Jeep again. We are surprised they never recalled the problem with the control module. I have all receipts and proof.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

Problem recurring on highway and city streets. At all speeds from idle to 75 mph. The latest was on highway driving 75 mph car dropped down to 30 mph and then stalled causing me to lose power steering and braking and almost an accident. The problem is well known to the Jeep manufacturer as stated by dealership. They said the throttle body/ software is the issue and occures in models from 2008 - current then verbally quoted me $650 for repair. I then researched online and found more than 2500 people with the issue and that's just people looking for help.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2018

Hi there, I am experiencing a strange issue, where my Patriot will shake/vibrate really bad when in drive and sitting idle (like at a red light with the foot on the brake). If I place it in park, neutral or start driving the heavy vibration goes away. Motor mounts ok, I have a problem with the crankshaft sensor before but is been replaced. Anyone else having a similar issue, or have any insight? I have a 2007 Jeep Patriot limited with about 80k.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

I filled my gas tank up today. As I got about 3 miles from the gas station the car began to sputter and lose its ability to accelerate efficiently through all the gears. The car was running rough for about 15 miles until I pulled into my driveway, and began making a weird sound out of the exhaust, still idling rough when parked. I looked into it online and many Jeep Patriot owners are complaining of similar issues after filling up with gas. They;re saying it's an issue with a "fuel tank rollover valve" or a "vapor liquid separating valve. " either way this issue is dangerous and needs to be addressed with a recall of the vehicles to ensure the safety of their operators in the future.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2016

I was excallerating from a stop at a red light that had just turned green when half way through the intersection my Jeep stauled. The two vehicles behind me rear ended each other. I slowly rolled to my right . The etc (lighting bolt symbol) and engine light came on. I repeated the process of trying to start and drive a few feet at a time and remove battery terminals and clean them. The rpm would drop very fast and engine would cut out while in motion . This was on very busy rural streets. It seem to happen during ecceleration. I managed the to make it home by driving very slow and trying to keep rpms as low as possible. At times the engine would not start until I disconnected the battery then reconnected. Have a new battery, pcv valve, and same issues. I believe the throttle body assemblies on these vehicles are faulty and suffer from engineering design and weak internal parts.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2015

This vehicle has been very dependable up until now, my 3rd year of ownership. The car has been maintained well and has never shown any indication of problems. While driving on the freeway a few weeks ago going about 65mph, the vehicle suddenly died in traffic. All of a sudden I lost the ability to accelerate and the vehicle was coasting. I tried to move over as I was in the fast lane with no shoulder available due to road work. I got over to the far right lane but there was also no shoulder there. Luckily I was able to duck into a work area that had a small opening(I took out a couple cones though). As I attempted to slow the vehicle once in the closed work area off the side of the freeway I lost power steering and the ability to brake. The car would start again but not accelerate and would die again when I tried. We left the car and came back 2 hours later with the same issues. After letting the car sit for 3-4 hours it ran perfectly fine. Two days later I had the same problem while driving on city streets going anywhere from 25-40mph. I had the vehicle looked at and it did not put out any codes thus the mechanic was unable to help me. I took the car home again but now every single time the car runs long enough to reach normal operating temperature it dies while driving. This car is a safety hazard! there were no warning lights coming on beforehand, and after the car has died it sometimes will flash the transmission light or all of the lights will briefly flash and then go off. My car is no longer covered under warranty but I believe this car should be recalled. It has happened to many people across the country and I even saw an investigation opened in 2012. What were the results of that investigation? I haven't been able to find them anywhere probably indicating that nothing ever came of it. I will be contacting Jeep as well as carmax where I bought the car.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2012

While driving all of a sudden the car acts like it is dying for a short period of time and the following lights come on. The traction control, abs, and 4wd lights. The car clears up in a matter of seconds and runs allright after that. However in certain circumstances this could cause a fatal accident. Where I was it didn't matter but if you were in traffic or pulling out in front of a vehicle and didn't have much time, it could matter very much. All 4 of the wheel sensors have gone bad and now I'm on the 5th one. They are not all the same and not everytime do they cause a hesitation but sometimes they do and twice the car almost went dead. This is an accident waiting to happen and should be corrected.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated the accelerator pedal on the vehicle snapped. The vehicle started to slow down and he did not realize that the accelerator pedal broke. The contact stopped the vehicle and noticed that the accelerator pedal was broken. The broken pedal had approximately an inch of the stem connected to the vehicle. The vehicle was not inspected. The contact was concerned that the failure was a severe safety hazard, because the accelerator was made out of plastic. The failure and current mileage was 7,100.
