general problems of the 2015 Jeep Renegade - part 1

As I was driving the airbag light quickly turned on and off. I did not get it checked out but it is a known issue were the light will turn on due to electrical issues. And if this fails and others or myself are driving/riding in this vehicle and a crash occurs we will not have the protection of the airbags.

I previously had this same issue August 2024 (associated complaint 11608428). My rear drivers side tail light is out completely-no brake light, reverse, turn signal, or nighttime tail light is working. I spent nearly $800 to replace part 68599920aa, as the entire motherboard was fried, as were the connectors from overheating. I’ve located several other complaints with similar issues: 11585014; 11142232; 11023686. This is clearly a defective issue with Jeep Renegades and a safety concern that should be a recall.

When I was driving and stopped at a red light, my Jeep automatically shut off. It had the steering wheel warning and air bag warning pop up. I had a message that told me to put my vehicle in park when I tried to start it back up. I placed it in park and started up the Jeep again. It came back on, but the warning lights remained on. Once I made it home, I safely turned my vehicle off and then restarted it. Once I restarted it, those warnings were no longer on.

I was driving my vehicle and all of the sudden it just turned off and said vehicle shift to p to select gear, and I kept pressing the gas and it wouldn’t move , I have nothing on my dash no lights or anything.

I purchased in 2015 (Jeep Renegade). The dealership promised a “lifetime warranty” for the duration of my ownership, but despite repeated service visits over the past 10 years for persistent electrical problems, they have refused to honor this warranty. It has come to my recent attention that the two major reasons Jeep has stopped making the Renegade was due to electrical and engine issues. Both issues with my car never told to me, and games are being played. Key points: I have complete documentation: purchase receipts, service records, text messages, and emails confirming the warranty and the repeated service attempts. The dealership now claims they have no record of my purchase. I was assured by a service representative that the issues were covered under warranty so I brought it there time and time again. The last time I brought it in the representative was working on it under warranty, but the representative was later terminated while still working to resolve the problem. These service manager, keri has played games to avoid repairs and has even tried to tell me that I didnt buy my car there when I have proof I did. She said my receipts mean nothing and aren't proof. Its been a non stop headache for almost 10 years when all they had to do was be honest from the beginning. This car has had these problems on and off since 2017 and caused the dealer to have to replace the engine due to this parasitic draw. Each time pretending to fix it and not doing so. These issues have caused significant inconvenience, expenses, and emotional stress over a decade. I would like to explore: enforcing the lifetime warranty and having the electrical issues properly fixed free of charge pursuing remedies under tennessee’s consumer protection laws for unfair or deceptive trade practices. Discussing compensation for damages resulting from the dealership’s repeated failures to repair the vehicle. I am fully prepared to provide all documentation, a detailed timeline of events.

The backup safety camera screen that is also used for the radio and bluetooth intermittently goes black which disconnects any calls, and doesn’t display the backup safety camera.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. There several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was jerking and hesitating while shifting between gears. The contact stated that the battery was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer where several unknown parts were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle had been inoperable for two months since the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

Touch screen radio/back up camera screen blacking out and malfunctioning.

While driving in a snowstorm, with 4 wheel drive engaged, the vehicle started swerving, and fish tailing. I was in town and going slow(20 mph). The dash flashed some messages, and the default kicked in so front wheel drive resumed and stability also. The main message was esc-emergency stability control, plus two others. I called a mechanic in the morning, who suggested the computer might reset. I turned the vehicle on, but the message stayed. I decided to go to the mechanic’s shop, but after two left turns I heard a “growling” sound and the computer did reset. It has been okay since.

Car randomly stalls in park, when reversing, when in drive but brake is being applied, or when first accelerating after putting into drive. Several times now it has stalled when I'm at stop lights. One time it stalled after just tapping the brake while approaching a stop light. That was terrifying because the car was still in motion. Also, car randomly jerks hard when shifting gears. Recently, car doesn't want to shift while accelerating up hills, and rpm's can get up to 4. 5 or 5. No engine light or other warnings lights ever come on. I have brought it to my mechanic two times now about the hard shifting and stalling. Have another appointment this week. They can't figure out what's causing it. Nor can they replicate the problem. This can happen a few times a day, then go weeks without an issue. I've seen the same problems from dozens of people on Jeep forums for 2015 -2017 models. No one had a solution, while seemingly getting brushed off by the dealerships about it.

My vehicle recently started showing warning/service lights for no reason; airbag, power steering, park lights, coolant, check engine etc. My engine would also keeps running even after removing the keys. . My battery would also be dead the next day (new battery) if battery is not disconnected . Power door locks , also stops working via fob and manual. While driving the power steering would also stops working (very dangerous) as this will prevent you from turning and can cause collision. Engine will start but dies after 5 seconds. I have looked online in Jeep forums and this problems appears to be related to ignition switch. The problems the car is having is very identical to those Renegade owners posted on line. Other Renegade owners got the ignition switch replaced and fixed the problem. As of now, there is no recall for this particular issue but should be investigated. I will be taking my car for recalls and also to include this problem to get fixed. This is a safety matter as it could cause fatality.

2015 Jeep Renegade vehicle's horn stopped working/malfunctioned. The clockspring in the steering column control needs to be replaced, along with a battery transmitter, and an air bag that is in the steering column. A Jeep service confirmed the problem and is ordering parts at this time. The parts cost $1,802. 31, not including labor. Not having a horn to use puts myself and others at risk while driving, especially in high-traffic areas. The manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others, have not inspected the vehicle. There were no warning lamps or messages. The horn completing stopped working about three weeks ago.

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while leaving his garage, the battery lost power and was completely drained. The vehicle was jumpstarted. The next day, the battery was drained again. The vehicle was jumpstarted again. Additionally, the vehicle failed to shift into park(p). There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called the local dealer and who provided with unknown recommendations. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

In January 2023 and April 2023, a recalled was serviced on. The recall of w80 oil consumption inspection. Was performed twice. So many times I have put the 2015 Jeep Renegade in the service shop countless times. I was in the shop for over a month the oil pressure light comes on every 5 to 30 seconds. I have taken it to another service shop however, they suggest I take it back to the original service shop who original service the Jeep.

Battery went dead, vehicle was jump started as per guide protocol, then vehicle would not shift out of park. Had to use emergency towing and release the shift with the shift lever override as described in the manual. Vehicle will now only go into gear with screwdriver, but it still will not recognize it is in gear and will not move. Warning lights of service transmission. Battery changed, vehicle is just sitting, there is no explanation as to what to do, dealerships have no clue. Vehicle will roll and cause an accident if not propped behind the tires. Through Jeep forum, it is noted that this is an ongoing issue with this specific year/make/model. The "fix" is over $2000, it should be a recall and the manufacturers responsibility since it is a known issue. Jeep used to be a reliable, dependable brand, unfortunately, this is the last one we will ever own.

I bought a 2015 Jeep Renegade in October of 2021 (last year) and have experienced the vehicle stalling twice in the middle of traffic. I was informed of the recall by carmax after the deal was drawn up and the vehicle delivered to me on October 4, 2021. I took the vehicle to class Jeep in arlington, texas, (see attached documents) who refused to replace the engine of the vehicle – the reason for the recall. I have done all that I can do and exhausted every means necessary to have the recall completed and the vehicle replaced or repaired to bring up to operating standard. I currently owe $21,000. 00 on a vehicle that is non-operable. Carvana delivered the car with a rotted battery (paperwork attached); and, a faulty brake job (where new brakes had been put on top of bad rotors) which they felt $200. 00 should cover the cost for a $1100 brake repair/replacement. Carvana also refused to replace the transmission on the vehicle which they identified as the source of the ‘stalling-out’ in the midst of traffic when the vehicle would not shift gears to accelerate. The justification was because ‘a module is on top of the transmission instead of inside of it’ and it’s not an engine problem; therefore, refused to repair or replace. Essentially, I have been told that the vehicle which is a safety hazard and threat to life is no longer their concern. Please advise – both the dealership and the manufacturer have taken the position that the operating problems of this vehicle is that ‘of the other’s…’ and no one wanting to just take ownership that the vehicle is faulty and fix it, repair it, or take it out of circulation on the market for sell to unsuspecting consumers. Requested resolution: I am requesting repair or replacement of this vehicle; or, buyback with no negative adverse action on my credit worthiness. My choice is not simply, “you can return it” as I was told – which will result in a ‘repossession’ appearing on my credit report.

The service powertrain and 4wd messages were displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed her that the failure was due to a software module update. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. The VIN was not available.

It mostly happens in the morning. While I’m driving to work which is less than 5 minutes away from where I live. The car would just shut down while I’m driving, lights would flicker and the car will stop. I would have to wait a few minutes or more to restart the vehicle and the drives normal. I bought the car from carmax in may or June 2021. They told me there were no recalls. I look up the problem I’m having and found a previous recall about the same issue, on the same year, make and model. Need help.

My car turns off at random times while driving. This has happened while going down the highway at high speeds and while turning left into a business and everything in between. I am usually able to start the car after waiting five minutes or so and it may or may not turn off again before I reach my destination. I have taken it to the dealership 3 times for this issue with no resolve. The first time I took my car to the dealership was July 14th, 2021 and they determined it was the battery, that did not solve the issue. On December 29, 2022 I took the vehicle to the dealership and on January 09, 2023 I picked it up. They told me my battery cable was loose, that was not the issue. On January 24 I took it back and on February 7, 2023 I picked it up. The dealership replaced the wiring harness, but the issue still remains. Driving down the road at any speed and having the car shut off is a safety risk to everyone around. When my daughter was turning left into a business she was terrified and blocking traffic going both directions and had to be pushed out of the road. While driving down the road I constantly am looking for a plan of action, a place that I can coast off the road if my car dies. The dealership has not been able to recreate this problem. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealership. 60% of the time all of the warning lamps are on, and the other part of the time just the check engine light and battery lamp are on, but this is not an indication of if the car will safely get me to my destination without turning off. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does not. I am not the only one who has suffered this issue. Numerous similar incidents can be found from other people on various websites.

While putting my car in park to exit my vehicle, my emergency parking break activated and would not shut off. I tried resetting the car multiple times. Nothing released the emergency parking break. The car needed to be towed to the dealership where they informed me a "glitch" had happened in the parking system. . .

6/24/21 I backed out of my carport & my car jerked me very hard like something shifted. All error codes & lights came on, air bag (which did not deploy) e brake light was on, check engine & tire pressure the prnd light up simultaneously & flashed. I turned it off & back on, seemed fine I put in drive & drove in my circle driveway & suddenly it stopped accelerating even with me giving it gas then it took off & the e brake came on. Thank god I was in my driveway & not pulling into traffic when this occurred. My husband tried again when he got home & it did the same to him would go then just stop accelerating mid drive & e brake come along with all the flashing error codes & I mean every code it can throw it did. It was like it was going in & out of limp mode & the e brake would come on when it wanted to mid drive. It has been in service since 6/26/2021 when it was taken by tow to the dealer, as it was unsafe to try to drive. I do have an extended mopar warranty & im told they have contacted Jeep engineering team but have no answers. It’s been in their possession close to 40 days now. I will not feel safe at all if they fix this car due to that incident. I would either be dead or badly injured.

Shifter won't work (won't move out of park) after battery dies. My vehicle's battery died at the end of April, we assumed it was just an old battery and had it replaced by aaa. Last week, the battery died again (this also CO-occurred with the key fobs not working. . . If that's helpful). After aaa charged it, we turned it on but it wouldn't shift out of park. We followed the manual instructions to manually shift it into neutral but then we couldn't turn the vehicle off. Eventually it was towed to the dealership while it was still running. . . And they said that it needs a new shifter (+$1300)?! the vehicle was purchased new and this series of events (battery dying / shifter dying) seems to be a recurring event. . . . I parked my car in the garage on a Monday got ready to go the very next day car started but wouldn't go in gear and the dash board was saying service engine and transmission there was no warning any time before.

When I am driving on the road the vehicle turns off and does not turn on and send an electric power stering alert this happens since I purchased the vehicle used at a Jeep certified dealer in florida and I have driven it several times and they tell me that it has no problems.

I stopped at a red light, when the traffic lights turned green I pressed my gas petal but the vehicle started to slow down & wouldn't move, my engine light came up & so did my brake, airbag & park light. I was stuck in park for a couple of minutes, after waiting my car started back to normal, but this problem continues.

Cooling circuit fan stopped working at 51k miles. Engine light said service engine with dash engine light notification. Code p0481 comes up.

While driving a 2015 Jeep Renegade the car shuts off as you are driving. This is not happening while stopped it happens in the middle of the street/road. It has happened with our vehicle at least 3 times, once in an intersection while turning and twice as we were driving. Luckily we were able to push the vehicle out of traffic without being hit or injured. One time vehicle assistance was called, eventually the car was jumped successfully, and driven to repair shop, where nothing could be found wrong. About 4 months later the car shut off in an intersection. About 8 hours later we jumped the car and drove it to the repair shop, where again nothing can be detected. Many other Jeep Renegade owners report the same thing happening while driving and when taken in for repairs no thing can be found. Each time this happens to our car we have had an infant in the car. . We are grateful we were not on the expressway like some other Renegade drivers report. Without finding out and fixing what is truly wrong these intermittent shutoffs will continue to happen.

I am replacing my coolant fan for the third time! I am replacing my day running light for the seventh time. The coolant fan stop running again. This is the third time in less than two years. I was driving on the highway around 3pm when I attempted to turn on the air and the temperature never adjusted. My coolant indicator turned fully red. My car started smoking and I pulled over and popped the hood to see my antifreeze boiling out of the reservoir. I kept the hood up and waited for it to cool down. The next morning, I drove to my sitter's where I completed my trip and the car started smoking again. Now it's at the shop.

I have been taking my car to the dealership with the same complaint for over 2 yrs. They charge me for things that they say its not under warranty. I pay but car continues the same as I brought it in. I had to call "corporate" so they can get involved and help me, they did and in a way I was punished by keeping the car for a month and when I asked to get it back they kept telling me they are waiting on parts. At one point my granddaughter got sick (lives with me) and I called them I need my car soon my kid is sick and I was told "get an ubber". Finally after a month I get my car and now is worse than ever. My daughter was driving and car smelled like smoke, all the lights on dashboard started going crazy, the air conditioner went dead and vehicle stopped. I have spent so much money complaining about the same thing and now im without a car again. I need help please. I lost my job and now I had to sell my home due to this pandemic. Im suppose to leave and move to another state this coming weekend and I have no car to leave. How can anyone help me, please.

Vehicle loses permanent power to computer that powers transmission and knocked out computer and the transmission from shifting from drive to park and park to drive rendering the car totally disabled without dealership intervention do to bad connection on the negative battery terminal. This left the car unmovable from travel lane to side of the road in heavy traffic without a tow truck being summoned. At time of incident vehicle would not shift to neutral for removal from highway to safety and placed everyone in danger of high speed collision for the whole intire time that vehicle remained locked down in high capacity, high speed lane of travel.

Vehicle VIN: zaccjabt0fpb53249, Jeep Renegade, 57000 miles I purchased a Jeep Renegade for my wife at dennis eakin in killeen. To make a long story short, the dealership ran into a VIN error that we were told was fixed, but it never was because we remain having issues with insurance. I work in law enforcement and looked up NHTSA documentation that says the dealership should contact the manufacturer upon finding a discrepency and apparently this was never done. The dealership also told us the Jeep was in a minor accident and we found out the crash was worse than minor, the vehicle has electrcal issues and only one key fob. We were promissed another key fob made, but have just got the runaround since purchase. The vehicle will not lock sometimes and we are worried it will not unlock during an emergency. The vehicle continually tells us the key fob is not in the vehcile while driving and while stationary. The Jeep also has transmission issues we were never told about. The dealership will not respond to these issues and I need to find someone to help. I have gone up there and spoke to the manager at sales and at parts/service. The contact stated she was able to recharge the battery and drive to her residence. The contact stated the next day, she experience the same failure and multiple warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated she replaced the battery. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to independent mechanic at the moment to seek diagnoses. The contact called local dealer jim click Jeep located at 701 w auto mall dr, tucson, az 85705 were made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 44,000. Dp.

I have a hard time putting gas in the car though it was the pump but it's everywhere I go and it eats up a lot of gas. The electrical messed up sometimes it won't start I got a new battery and everything but the service people said it has to be electrical my keys never work I have to manually use key and lock the door from inside my gears the engine ideals high and car jerks sometimes when I'm taking off.

While driving my radio and headlights will start to surge then immediately after, the steering wheel will jerk out of my hands preventing me from turning the wheel in any direction (locks up). If I don't immediately park the car, the car will shut off on then a bunch of warnings will pop up on the dashboard then dynamic power steering warning with flash. I have to wait 10 minutes at least before being able to restart the car. This has happened every single time I drive the car. This has happened multiple times at red lights, turning into traffic, on the highway going 75mph and/or 30mph.
