It seems that when the outside temperature is very warm/hot, when turning the car on or when idling at a traffic light or driving at very low speeds, on occasion the car will abruptly and without warning, shift itself into park and the emergency brake activates. I took the vehicle in for repair on 10/23/25 and was told there was a "thermostat internal failure" and that the "thermostat assembly" was replaced. I was just recently traveling in florida ( reside in NY) and the exact same problems occurred with my vehicle which I can only assume was due to the warmer temperatures that my vehicle has not been exposed to since the last repair as I reside in new york. I feel it should be worth mentioning that when turning off the auto start/stop button, the problems occurred less frequently but still happened on occasion. I've also had 3 other times when the "check engine" light came on. I was told that the first 2 were related to software updates with the transmission. On the other occasion, a "valve body" was replaced. I'm unsure if any of these were related. I've also had to replace the auxiliary battery but I don't think that's related so I didn't upload that file. Although I'm taking the vehicle to be repaired today, I took it in on 04/14/26 because the check engine light came on while in florida when the car shifted itself into park and the emergency brake was activated. The check engine light almost never comes on when this happens which I was told makes it difficult to diagnose issues. I didn't know how long this info is stored so I took the vehicle in upon returning to NY and was given a summary report after they hooked up a scanner. I couldn't get an appointment until today.
This vehicle has had 2 incidents where the engine overheated. In both instances, the thermostat has been replaced under warranty. Due to this most recent overheating event, the repairs were over $1750 excluding the portion of repairs under warranty. There were no warnings before the engine overheated, and the vehicle was being driven on the freeway at appropriate speeds. This is not the first time this vehicle has overheated.
Our 2023 Jeep Wagoneer overheats (indicates excessive oil temperature and low oil pressure) repeatedly (~20 times since we've owned the vehicle) under normal freeway driving causing a safety issue by creating the need to rapidly slow and exit the roadway to prevent vehicle engine failure. The issue occurs during sustained freeway driving around 60-65 mph. The car feels like it is not properly shifting to the next gear and the rpm lingers around 3000rpm - 3500rpm. After a few minutes at this sustained rpm the engine temperature gauge slowly climbs until the overheating warning light comes on and it typically followed by a low oil pressure warning. We have taken the vehicle to a Jeep dealer twice. They have tried to replicate the issue and have not been able to. We suspect that they are not driving in long enough (30-40min) to be able to replicate the issue. They also say that they are not able to pull up any error codes from the vehicle from an odb scanner. They say they can't diagnose the issue with out an error code and seam to be unwilling to explore the issue further. Most recently we've purchased our own odb scanner to try to gather any error codes because the Jeep dealer doesn't seam to want to investigate further without us gathering error codes for them. Today we drove the car for about 45min on moderately hilly terrain at around 60mph and produced three separate overheating / low oil pressure error incidents while the odb scanner was plugged in. The odb did not indicate an error code on any of the three incidents. We are frustrated because Jeep and their dealers have left us in a situation where we have a dysfunctional vehicle and seam to be unwilling to take reasonable measures to resolve the problem.
On 10/27/25, the thermostat on my Wagoneer exploded. It was supposedly repaired on 10/30/25. I read in the Wagoneers forum that the thermostat is a common issue, but it could be the result of engine problems. On 2/4/26, I took my vehicle in for a routine oil change. I didn't drive the vehicle for a few days. On 2/7/26, I was driving and received an error message stating max engine oil level exceeded. Immediate service required. I returned it to the dealer to fix that issue. On 2/15/26, I noticed that my engine sounded louder than normal and by 2/16/26, the check engine light was on. On 2/18/26, I received an error message saying the engine temperature was too hot. I took it back to the dealership where it is today. I believe the Wagoneers have faulty engines that need to be recalled.
This complaint involves a 2023 Jeep grand Wagoneer l series iii, a full-size luxury SUV. The vehicle has experienced repeated electrical and powertrain failures culminating in complete loss of propulsion. On 01/22/2026, while traveling approximately 45–50 mph, the vehicle abruptly shut down without warning. The engine lost power, dashboard displays went black, and multiple warning lights illuminated simultaneously. I was forced to steer to the shoulder while a trailing vehicle had to swerve off the roadway to avoid a collision. This was a near-miss event and represents a serious safety hazard involving sudden loss of motive power at highway speed. Prior to that event, the vehicle had already stalled at a traffic light and had exhibited repeated check engine warnings, low-voltage faults, and module communication errors. The servicing dealer documented multiple diagnostic trouble codes affecting the body control module (bcm), ignition system control module (iscm), and powertrain control module (pcm). Manufacturer technical service bulletin software updates were applied in attempts to correct the issue. Despite these interventions, the electrical instability persisted. On 02/12/2026, only days after an auxiliary battery replacement intended to address voltage concerns, the vehicle would not start and required towing to the dealership at my expense. Additional fault codes are currently under review. The vehicle is also subject to an open recall with no remedy available, and the power running board motor has failed with replacement parts unavailable. This pattern of electrical failure, sudden shutdown in motion, and inability to reliably start presents an ongoing and unacceptable safety risk to occupants and surrounding motorists. The vehicle is available for inspection and has been repeatedly evaluated by an authorized dealer.
I wes driving and the over heat light came on in pulled over and had car towed to dealer. The dealer pulled the report and they said I needed a new engine and that I drove 40 miles in limp mode. There was no lights or indicators that there was an issue until the car overheated in that time it was only drove 3 miles. They cannot pinpoint when the light would ha e turned on and now I am stuck with a broken engine that stelantis is refusing warranty coverage but the car failed to alert me there was an issue.
Repeated failures of electrical system of Wagoneer; vehicle towed to dealer who made some repairs, only for vehicle to fail again. Batteries fully replaced, issue got worse. Safety concern as vehicle will randomly not start even when traveling. Error messages with electrical shorts, failure of entertainment system.
Speedometer read zero while driving on the interstate and rpms felt as if they were off. New electrical cluster and new battery by Jeep have already been replaced claiming it would resolve this issue.
The Wagoneer with 20,000 miles very suddenly started to overheat, then quickly redlined on the dash board. Car shut down at dark night intersection. Needed to be towed to dealer. Dealer diagnosed that the engine needs to be replaced. Wtf. Waiting for Jeep claims rep to contact me. Case # 94698805. No word on eta of replacement engine. Expecting a long term rental car. Not happy I'm financing at $800 per month car in shop for who knows how long. Dealer claims they have 2 other Wagoneers on the lot with same engine verdict. Is there a buy back policy available? lol.
The thermostat failed prematurely. Car is less than 2 years old and 37,679 miles. About 37,600 at the time of incident. The engine overheated and the car states to pull over immediately. The manual states roughly that permanent engine damage can result so the driver is forced to pull over regardless of condition. Vehicle speedometer has randomly blacked out on numerous occasions not allowing me to see any of my gauges. While driving on the interstate and merging the vehicle has stalled and rpms stay stagnant yet you can hear the engine revving & then it acts like it will catch up. While driving up hill the vehicle began to stall almost like it was towing something when it was not. Back up camera has failed to turn on (resolved its self after I restarted the car). When I take it into the dealer error codes never seem to pop for these issues even though it tells me to see dealer, and read manual for proper oil and fuel usage. It’s like it has a mind of its own and it worries me to continue driving my three children around when electrical issues randomly happen every month or so & it needs constant updating. Both batteries have been replaced due to these issues draining the life out of them.
While driving the vehicle the oil engine light came on as well as a front collision warning lamp. The car then would not go into a higher gear. The air condition shut off and the car started making an electric type of noise and started slowing down and eventually stopped leaving myself and my two children stranded. This put both myself and my two children at risk. We had to get transportation home and get the car towed to the dealership and they confirmed that it is a malfunction of the thermostat which they relayed is a known issue with this model of car and its engine. There has been a recall with Jeep, but only with a portion of its vehicles and my VIN was not included.
Vehicle runs hot due to faulty thermostat. This is a very common and known issue but Jeep refuses to replace it unless it runs hot and dies. Hundereds or thousands of the 3. 0l Wagoneer have had this issue. It is potentially dangerous as it can leave you stranded in the roadway in traffic. I attempted to get mine replaced proactively due to it being a well known problem and opened 2 custom complaint cases with Jeep. Both times I was told it must fail, run hot and leave me stranded to get it repaired under warranty. Well, just as I assumed it would, it did and left me stranded in the middle of the roadway.
The thermostat failed, causing the vehicle to overheat and die on a us highway with multiple passengers inside. The vehicle subsequently needed to be towed to the dealer for service. This is a known issue but Jeep has not issued a recall. There is a customer satisfaction campaign (csn 26b) in regard to thermostat failure, but this VIN has not been included, despite having the same engine/year known to have a defective thermostat. The overheating was a safety issue that came on suddenly and stranded the driver and passengers away from home. The warning light for engine temperature came on within a minute of the engine shutting down leaving little time to park safely along the highway.
While driving my 2023 Jeep Wagoneer on 12 Jun 2025 I stopped at an intersection preparing to make a right turn. When I took my foot off the brake and prepared to accelerate, the vehicle abruptly turned off and lost all power and control. The instrument cluster said to shift to park in order to restart. I was able to restart the vehicle and drove it immediately to the Jeep dealership service. The dealership immediately scanned it, but was unable to diagnose the issue. We drove the vehicle back to our home and are now afraid to drive it due to concern over the vehicle shutting down while driving.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer. The contact stated that several unknown lights on the instrument cluster were illuminated and flashing. Additionally, the headlights were flashing, and the camera screen was blank. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, additional force was needed to stop the vehicle. There was an abnormal horn sound detected. The contact stated that the engine overheated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was jump-started. The contact was locked out on several occasions. The contact stated that the third-row seat had folded her child up while parental controls were enabled. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the battery was replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, charbonneau car center (346 1st street west dickinson, nd 58601); who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
Vehicle suddenly lost power and overheated while driving. Had to get towed to the dealership. Dealer advised that the thermostat had failed, which seems to be a common occurrence with these vehicles. Thermostat was replaced but continued to overheat, leading the dealer to suspect the engine was warped and in need of replacement.
The Wagoneer while driving twice has shut off, gone into park, and emergency break turned on. The problem is shutting off on its own while driving. This could cause a wreck obviously if happens at a higher rate of speed. Thankfully both times I was at about 5-10mph and nobody was behind me.
For the past five months, the vehicle has stalled nearly every other day, including while backing out of driveways or parking spaces and when slowing to stop. Each time, the engine suddenly shuts off without warning, the transmission automatically shifts into park, and the emergency brake engages. An engine warning light appears with a “battery fault” message. The repeated engine shutdowns and automatic braking create a serious safety risk, particularly when backing into traffic or stopping at intersections. In several instances, the vehicle would not restart for several minutes, leaving it disabled in the roadway. The vehicle has been taken twice to the authorized Jeep dealership in stonecrest, georgia, but the service department was unable to reproduce or correct the issue. The problem persists, and the “battery fault” light continues to appear intermittently. On April 5th, vehicle overheated while driving in city traffic. I was able to pull to side of road where vehicle shut itself off. Prior to this event I noticed sluggish engine response and ac had stopped blowing cold air. I waited about 5-10 minutes and restarted vehicle. Sat at idle for 5 minutes with out any warnings or previous indications of an issue. Then received momentary warning of low oil pressure. I shut vehicle off and had it towed to dealership. Dealership was able recreate problem during diagnosis drive. Identified faulty thermostat. The dealership stated 3 wagoners were ahead of me with similar issues and are waiting on parts. The dealership is limited on how many thermostats they can order per week. Based on parts and labor timeline I will likely be without vehicle for 3-4 weeks.
In June of 2024 the engine hot and oil pressure low light came on in the middle of a busy intersection and the car went limp had to get it towed to dealer. They replaced engine thermostat. March 18, 2025 was driving down interstate at 80 mph when wheel locked up and brakes. The power steering and brake light came on with a red exclamation point and I was unable to barely move the wheel and had to continue another mile until highway exit. If the highway curbed could have been deadly. Towed it to Jeep and they said upon checking it all looks good. Now I’m suppose to drive my five kids around and hope that never happens again with no explanation from dealer on what exactly caused it.
Immediately after getting off of the expressway on the drive to work, there is a stop light at the intersection of city streets. While sitting at the stop light, foot on the brake, the vehicle stopped running, the brake pedal went to the floor, and the service power steering warning screen was flashing and chiming. I immediately put my hazard lights on to warn oncoming traffic that I wouldn't be proceeding, because at that point the light changed to green and people behind me were letting off their brakes and rolling forward. After about 45 seconds to 1 minute, the vehicle showed a screen that said to place foot on brake and press ignition to start the vehicle. I was able to start the vehicle again, but the power steering warning light was still on. I had the vehicle towed from the street parking near my job. If the incident had happened 45 seconds prior, I'd have been still on the expressway in heavy rush hour traffic and would have been hit if my vehicle came to a dead stop or lost brake or steering control with no prior warning. The vehicle had just been serviced 2 weeks prior for thermostat failure and stalling, leaving me in an intersection. The latent defects presenting themselves on this vehicle are creating a multitude of near miss safety issues that are being minimized by stellantis and their "customer care" representatives.
Speedometer & gauges will randomly blackout and not work and it causes the engine to do funny things while driving. Battery drains from the issues (stranded twice even after new batteries installed). Rear view camera sometimes glitches as well and freezes up.
Vehicle overheated to 261 degrees f, stated oil pressure was low, alarms were chiming and flashing, so vehicle was pulled off road and turned off. I was only about 3 minutes from our dealership, so I turned it back on after 30 minutes, temperatures seemed okay, let it idle for 20 minutes, and attempted to drive to the dealership. Within 30 seconds of being back on the road, the vehicle overheated again. I turned off the road attempting to get into a parking lot where I would have the vehicle towed from, and the vehicle shut itself down when I attempted to leave the stop sign, and rolled me into the middle of the intersection and stopped, leaving me openly vulnerable to collision with oncoming traffic. After about 1 minute, the vehicle allowed me to restart it and accelerate enough to get myself out of the intersection and into a parking lot where the vehicle was towed from.
While at a stop light, with start/stop active, I released the brake, which should have "reactivated" the car. Instead, it shut down. I got a quick transmission service error on the dash. Once I put the car in park and turned it off and then on again, it functioned properly. I. The meantime I was being honked at from everyone missing the green light behind me.
Vehicle overheated despite coolant level being at max level. I took it to dealer and dealer said it was a faulty thermostat. The problem appeared January 2, 2025, and I immediately took vehicle to the dealer.
Engine overheated and oil pressure low warnings came on suddenly and lost power. I had my two grandkids and was on a dark country road with ditches and no shoulders. Pulled off at the next cross street to get to safety. Was stranded at night in a rural area with my [xxx] and [xxx]. Had to have vehicle towed and wait for someone to pick us up. Thermostat failed, which is a known problem but my VIN wasn’t listed on the 26b notice. Engine was damaged beyond repair. It took three weeks for them to replace the engine. The morning after I picked up the wagon, the brake warning light came on when the grandkids were in it again. The dealership told me to have it towed. They said they spilled brake fluid when they replaced the engine and refilled it. I paid nearly 100k for this unsafe car! there is no excuse for not replacing a cheap $50 thermostat to avoid this issue. The component that failed was the thermostat. This failure caused my engine temperature to spike abruptly as I was driving. My safety and my children's safety were put at risk by creating no engine power, undriveable, and was almost hit by cars due to sudden slow down to decrease engine temperature to prevent from over heating. The problem is being reproduced by five star Dodge dealership in milledgeville, GA and being inspected by their mechanics. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms whatsoever of the problem prior to failure. The failure was immediate which again put my children and I in harms way. This recall is reported on thousands of other 2022-2023 Jeep Wagoneers yet no recall on my vehicle. That recall needs to expand to probably thousands more Wagoneers that are experiencing this failure. Due to this failure it caused the vehicle to be rendered undriveable forcing us to have it towed to a dealership. Furthermore, this thermostat is difficult to get ahold of as dealerships are only allowed to order one a week. Then if you can get a thermostat there are numerous dealerships who have 1-2 plus weeks wait service times. In order to prevent missed appointments, availability in grocery shopping and other errands, we were forced to get a rental car and pay more expenses out of pocket that could have been prevented if we were aware or presented a recall.
Our problems started with getting a message that said "check user manual for proper fuel and oil" when we accelerated. We just thought that was a warning sign, discussed this with the car dealership, and we were indeed using the correct fuel. When on the interstate going 70mph the car started rocking back and forth with the check engine light turned on. Took it to the dealership and they said it was computer updates, whichever helped for a couple months and then we continued to get the same message. Throughout our entire year and a 1/2 having the car, our tailgate has managed to fail four times now. The trunk has opened while driving, having stuff fall on the highway. We have gotten stuck places with the trunk not being able to shut. While driving on the highway, the power steering light turned on and the wheel locked up, I had to coast off the road at a corner. We are at the point where we are now 5000 miles over our warranty, driving down the highway once again, and the car started overheating. It said the the oil temp was low, and the coolant temp was high, but had the proper amount of coolant and oil in the car just even had the oil changed. We let the car cool down and luckily were luckily we were a couple blocks from the dealership. Drove a little further and the car overheated again, so my husband literally pushed the car where I coasted down the road to the parking spot. Over the year and a half we have also had the ac fail multiple times along with the back up camera. Also, one morning woke up to the car being dead, no lights were left on. Dealership is being very shady. I told them we will be looking into a lawyer and now they won't give me any documentation about my car. They said it's a faulty thermostat and the engine possibly could be bad but they won't know until the thermostat is fixed. Car back latch is also failing again while it sits at the dealership. I refuse to pay for this car. It's not safe. Complete piece of crap.
I bought this vehicle used form carmax, <12000 miles. Drove about 12 miles, when while parking I noticed the car stopped and asked to start engine and engage gear again. Didn't think much of it. Then started driving again and the check engine light turned on. There are lots of reports of Wagoneers with engine light problems (in fact we had test driven a different one with both check engine and transmission lights on which for obvious reasons didn't buy). I reported to carmax. Finished my drive and stayed idle for a while trying to see if there were any settings that may be responsible, but the engine was stuttering, almost shutting off, with the entire thing, even the driving lights shutting off intermittently. The following day I took the vehicle for a check at carmax, and while slowing at an intersection to let a school bus pass, the car completely shut down. I started again and drove very carefully. They could not diagnose the problem at carmax and they wanted to send to Jeep. I eventually returned the vehicle. I had seen reports of many problems with the 2022 Wagoneer model, but none about the 2023, but I now came across forums where people even describe complete shutdowns of the vehicle while driving in the highway. While I returned the vehicle, I think these serious engine and system failures could endanger others on the road. I took videos and pictures of the problems. Happy to share if you request them.
Car started over heating parked at home call a tow truck take it to the dealership and they want me to pay for some services when the SUV fail on his own contact Wagoneer services and also the same answer want me to pay for the services.
Two incidences, one week apart, of car turning itself off while stopped at a red light. While stopped at the light, the a sensor flashed and the car automatically shifted from “drive” to “park. ” entire car electrical system shut off. Driver was unable to shift back to drive, and was required to turn the car off while in a traffic lane, to then restart car to drive.
Car suddenly over heated in the middle of an intersection only allowing travel at about 1 mph thru traffic due to transmission also slipping because of the sudden thermostat failure. Was able to pull over to check coolant level and was low went to remove coolant reservoir cap and pressure in system blew the cap off as I was removing it. Coolant instantly returned from the engine. I suffered severe burns to my left hand. Car was taken to a nearby dealership for repairs. I decided to trade in the vehicle for the same make and model with only 1,000 miles will probably fail the same as previous and would like a recall for faulty stuck thermostat issued. My complaint is on the sudden thermostat failure that occurred on the i6 3. 0 so hurricane engine on the 2023 Wagoneer series 2. Causing severe burns to my hand as I attempted to check proper coolant level after engine overheating light was indicated. Car was traded in and is currently in repair.
Driving 45 down a city street and my 2023 Wagoneer ii carbide started to overheat and then the engine just stopped running. I was able to get the car out of traffic. Dash was saying the engine oil level was low, but when checking the menu for oil, it showed everything was fine. The car cooled down, and we tried to drive it again and it died again 3 times on the way to the dealership. I was told it was a faulty thermostat and the dealership replaced the part with the new version of the same part, which means it will die again. This seems to be a know issue with the hurricane engines, and I have seen a small recall of 500 cars (mine was not part of that recall) for this thermostat issue. I am now stuck with a car that I am afraid to drive and it is a ticking time bomb for another thermostat failure. This failure is after the real differential had been replaced.
The vehicle will throw itself in the park and shut off and not restart in the middle of traffic. It's not even stopped. You can hear the parking pin trying to engage until it slows to a point and then it'll slam on and lock up the brakes and skid to a stall. This has happened four times now and the vehicle has been in the shop the entire summer. Someone is going to get killed from this.
Service brakes because the brakes engaged on their own while reversing, with no obstruction present. Power train because the transmission downshifting unexpectedly in traffic, forcing us to pull over on the highway and restart the engine. Electrical because the rear camera blackouts while reversing fall under "back over prevention" and sometimes also electrical system. Engine because the oil pump solenoid failure with a complete oil pump replacement occurred. It's also an engine lubrication system failure which can cause catastrophic engine damage and loss of power.

The contact stated that the catalytic converters were replaced, and several electrical features were reset; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 2,500.

The vehicle was taken to the same dealer on several occasions, where it was diagnosed and determined that both batteries needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred within a month or two. The contact stated that on one occasion, the electrical cluster was replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred within a month. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I am writing to formally request your assistance regarding my 2023 Jeep Wagoneer— 1c4sjvat6ps543007— which has experienced extensive and repeated mechanical failures that have placed my safety—and the safety of my young children—in serious jeopardy. This was purchased new. In December, I went through arbitration regarding these issues. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful, largely because I did not have legal representation and was unable to adequately represent myself. Since that time, the problems have continued, and the vehicle remains dangerous and unreliable. I am fearful this vehicle is going to end up costing our family our lives. One of the most recent alarming incidents resulted in me sustaining a black eye due to unexpected, random braking— this was in late July. In addition, there have been ongoing and unresolved issues with the four-wheel-drive system, despite nine separate repair attempts. The rear differential has been replaced four times, and the front transfer case has also been replaced—yet the problems persist. To date, my vehicle has undergone over 40 documented repair attempts and has spent more than 250 days in the dealership for repairs. Despite these efforts, it is clear that the vehicle cannot be properly repaired and continues to pose a serious risk. Given the severity, frequency, and duration of these failures, I believe this case warrants urgent attention under arkansas consumer protection and lemon law statutes. I worry about the reliability of the vehicle. I have had it since June of 2023 and since I have purchased the vehicle, I have had nothing but issues. It has now been towed twice back to the dealership for engine issues. I have tried to reach out to many different people to try and get this resolved with no luck. I have 2 small children that rely on my transportation along with getting myself to and from work. The first time that I brought the car in was July 2023 (mileage was 5000) for the engine overheating, it was fixed late September and back in October with the engine shaking and check engine light on. It then was "fixed" and went back in March with the same check engine light and engine shake, I changed my tires to see if that would help with the shake per the dealership request and it did not, I came back in April twice and then may. It has now been towed from my home to the dealership once again pending some resolution from here. It has been at the dealership for 80+ days with these engine issues. I have been fighting with the reliability of my vehicle since I first purchased it and have had no luck with it. My fear is being left somewhere with my 2 small children without a vehicle, again. I am requesting Wagoneer purchase the car back from me so I can have dependability back for myself and my family. The service department has been a nightmare to work with in regard to getting them to fix the vehicle. I have been promised a call back a few times and I have got nothing. I have also made the attempt to get bessey's to repurchase the car this vehicle as it has failed me so many times. At this point I am really upset with this company and its unwillingness to help. My car has been their time and time again for the same repair attempt. In all honesty, I don't believe my concerns are being taken seriously as it is still not driving as it should. Engine still shakes during acceleration and check engine light will appear.
