Jeep Wagoneer owners have reported 46 problems related to power train (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Wagoneer based on all problems reported for the Wagoneer.
I was driving about 10mph around a turn and the motor turned off and I had to park to start the motor again. When I came to a complete stop the car engaged it's parking break and suddenly jerked forward. This has happened several times in the last year and this time I was the driver of the vehicle. It's a extreme safety issue and my wife has had it happen to her at a busy intersection more than one time.

The vehicle flashed a critical low battery warning while in operation driving. After traveling approximately 2 miles further, the vehicle warning lights started flashing and the vehicle shifted into park and shut off. In the middle of the road the vehicle could not be shifted into neutral and was stuck in a dangerous place. The emergency flashers shut off after 15 minutes while waiting for a tow truck. This vehicle has had two battery replacements in the last two years.
Over the last month, twice this has happened. When I turn, either direction it feels like the back wheels lock up. Rub. Drag. Took it to the dealer, and they can't get it to replicate the issue. . Something is clearly wrong. Google states alot of 2022-2024 Wagoneer have documented similar issues. It does not consistently happen. But it happened twice since end of January. Matter of fact, since I had it serviced last.

Our 2023 Jeep Wagoneer overheats (indicates excessive oil temperature and low oil pressure) repeatedly (~20 times since we've owned the vehicle) under normal freeway driving causing a safety issue by creating the need to rapidly slow and exit the roadway to prevent vehicle engine failure. The issue occurs during sustained freeway driving around 60-65 mph. The car feels like it is not properly shifting to the next gear and the rpm lingers around 3000rpm - 3500rpm. After a few minutes at this sustained rpm the engine temperature gauge slowly climbs until the overheating warning light comes on and it typically followed by a low oil pressure warning. We have taken the vehicle to a Jeep dealer twice. They have tried to replicate the issue and have not been able to. We suspect that they are not driving in long enough (30-40min) to be able to replicate the issue. They also say that they are not able to pull up any error codes from the vehicle from an odb scanner. They say they can't diagnose the issue with out an error code and seam to be unwilling to explore the issue further. Most recently we've purchased our own odb scanner to try to gather any error codes because the Jeep dealer doesn't seam to want to investigate further without us gathering error codes for them. Today we drove the car for about 45min on moderately hilly terrain at around 60mph and produced three separate overheating / low oil pressure error incidents while the odb scanner was plugged in. The odb did not indicate an error code on any of the three incidents. We are frustrated because Jeep and their dealers have left us in a situation where we have a dysfunctional vehicle and seam to be unwilling to take reasonable measures to resolve the problem.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to stop at a stop light, the vehicle lost power and decelerated unintendedly. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. During the failure, the contact's teenage daughter was seated on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the battery was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the contact was still waiting for a call back from the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 31,000.
On November 17, 2025, my vehicle engine overheated and shutdown while my wife was driving and left my wife and school aged daughter stranded on the side of the road. Took vehicle to dealership and they identified the thermostat to be faulty and needing replaced. On March 27, 2025, NHTSA issued a technical service bulletin (09-006-25) and a rapid service update (25-047) to dealerships advising them of the issues nationwide with faulty thermostats. I would like to request this be a recalled item for 2022-2024 Jeep Wagoneers to replace the faulty thermostats. There is nothing safe about driving a vehicle that shuts down on the road while driving and leaving people stranded on busy roads and highways, especially when they know it is an ongoing issue.
The Wagoneer with 20,000 miles very suddenly started to overheat, then quickly redlined on the dash board. Car shut down at dark night intersection. Needed to be towed to dealer. Dealer diagnosed that the engine needs to be replaced. Wtf. Waiting for Jeep claims rep to contact me. Case # 94698805. No word on eta of replacement engine. Expecting a long term rental car. Not happy I'm financing at $800 per month car in shop for who knows how long. Dealer claims they have 2 other Wagoneers on the lot with same engine verdict. Is there a buy back policy available? lol.
I was driving through the parking lot at my daughter’s school, and the vehicle shut off entirely when going at slow speeds. The vehicle lost all power steering, and braking was more difficult. Stopped safely, and the vehicle wouldn’t restart. Dealership confirmed it was a failure of the 48v battery system.
Vehicle on 4 occasions resulting in 2 transmission replacements, has a transmission control module malfunction resulting in the vehicle unable to shift out of 1st gear. Note this happens while driving. This is a huge safety issue that the manufacturer is refusing to acknowledge.
While driving the vehicle the oil engine light came on as well as a front collision warning lamp. The car then would not go into a higher gear. The air condition shut off and the car started making an electric type of noise and started slowing down and eventually stopped leaving myself and my two children stranded. This put both myself and my two children at risk. We had to get transportation home and get the car towed to the dealership and they confirmed that it is a malfunction of the thermostat which they relayed is a known issue with this model of car and its engine. There has been a recall with Jeep, but only with a portion of its vehicles and my VIN was not included.
The vehicle indicated to stop and pull over when attempting to start it in the garage, it was not moving. It made a terrible grinding noise. Towed to the dealer with a failed battery and need to replace the motor generator unit (mgu), part of its etorque mild-hybrid system. The part is on back order for more than 45 days as there are more than 282 failures reported. This is a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer that the dealership is saying is out of warranty and will charge me $4,000 to fix.
While driving my 2023 Jeep Wagoneer on 12 Jun 2025 I stopped at an intersection preparing to make a right turn. When I took my foot off the brake and prepared to accelerate, the vehicle abruptly turned off and lost all power and control. The instrument cluster said to shift to park in order to restart. I was able to restart the vehicle and drove it immediately to the Jeep dealership service. The dealership immediately scanned it, but was unable to diagnose the issue. We drove the vehicle back to our home and are now afraid to drive it due to concern over the vehicle shutting down while driving.
For the past five months, the vehicle has stalled nearly every other day, including while backing out of driveways or parking spaces and when slowing to stop. Each time, the engine suddenly shuts off without warning, the transmission automatically shifts into park, and the emergency brake engages. An engine warning light appears with a “battery fault” message. The repeated engine shutdowns and automatic braking create a serious safety risk, particularly when backing into traffic or stopping at intersections. In several instances, the vehicle would not restart for several minutes, leaving it disabled in the roadway. The vehicle has been taken twice to the authorized Jeep dealership in stonecrest, georgia, but the service department was unable to reproduce or correct the issue. The problem persists, and the “battery fault” light continues to appear intermittently. Component or system: engine and electrical system (battery and power management) availability for inspection: vehicle available upon request.
Dec 17, 2024 2022 Wagoneer was dropped of for service for a slight rattle in the engine. It was determined that the cams and shifters were “over-torqued” and had thrown metal shavings into the engine. This would require a full engine replacement which was conducted over the course of nearly 4 months. This is a reported and known issue/defect for Wagoneer. It was picked up March 28, 2025. On April 11, 2025 I experienced a full mechanical and/or electrical catastrophic failure while driving. The vehicle would not accelerate or brake. Multiple warnings and failures lit up the dash: service engine, oil pressure, throttle, etc. The emergency brake engaged, the engine very loudly shook, rattled and died. When trying to engage brake to put vehicle in neutral to be towed we heard a series of clicks and a pop and the engine began to smoke near drivers side. Stellantis refuses to acknowledge the recurring issues in these engines and continues to deny our buy back claim. These vehicles are dangerous. This experience violates every customer protection in this country and stellantis should be held accountable for taking millions of dollars from customers knowing this issue is recurring. We are still hoping for a positive resolution.
We issued a complaint on 12/2/2024 (#11628353). The dealership found our alternator to be faulty which caused the battery to fail the SUV to completely shut down. This happened again to us on 4/6/2025 with a full vehicle of passengers. The low battery warning appeared on the screen, we lost power steering, we lost our ability to brake, there is no emergency break when all systems are shutting down and then we lost all power to the vehicle. This all happened in a matter of 2 minutes. Thank god we were on a side road without any cars parked on the side of the road for us to pull over on. Stellantis needs to resolve these safety issues. We had elderly people with us during this last incedent, they were all scared. It is getting dangerous owning and operating a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer.
While at a stop light, with start/stop active, I released the brake, which should have "reactivated" the car. Instead, it shut down. I got a quick transmission service error on the dash. Once I put the car in park and turned it off and then on again, it functioned properly. I. The meantime I was being honked at from everyone missing the green light behind me.
Engine overheated and oil pressure low warnings came on suddenly and lost power. I had my two grandkids and was on a dark country road with ditches and no shoulders. Pulled off at the next cross street to get to safety. Was stranded at night in a rural area with my [xxx] and [xxx]. Had to have vehicle towed and wait for someone to pick us up. Thermostat failed, which is a known problem but my VIN wasn’t listed on the 26b notice. Engine was damaged beyond repair. It took three weeks for them to replace the engine. The morning after I picked up the wagon, the brake warning light came on when the grandkids were in it again. The dealership told me to have it towed. They said they spilled brake fluid when they replaced the engine and refilled it. I paid nearly 100k for this unsafe car! there is no excuse for not replacing a cheap $50 thermostat to avoid this issue. Why haven’t they issued a recall? information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
This Jeep has gone back to the dealership 3 times for dangerous undrivability, twice on the back of a tow truck, and third time retrieved by the dealer for repair. It has endangered my family on multiple occasions, each for a different reason, making this car unsafe to have my family drive in. It is less than one year old. Only 1 month after purchasing, it died in a parking lot with my family in the car. It had to be put on a flatbed back to the dealer for a computer replacement. The second time, it died in my driveway and again had to be brought on a flatbed to the dealer. The third incident was the most dangerous and the incident that must be flagged. With my kids in the car, my wife came to a stop sign. The car shook and jittered, the entertainment system went out, and the headlights flashed. A driver at the intersection thought my wife had "flashed the lights" and proceeded into the intersection, nearly causing an accident. I had the dealership come and get it, they applied a fix for the engine start-stop recall and said that likely fixed it. This car is unreliable and unsafe, and Jeep refuses to buyback the car, telling me only to start arbitration. They have refused to even give me a manager, and not returned all my calls.
Driving vehicle home on main highway at 55mph, had been driving for about 15 miles. Vehicle completely shut down. Engine shut off, power steering failed, lights shut off, everything electric shut down. Was unable to steer the vehicle to the shoulder and it rolled to a stop in the middle of the 2 lane road in the dark. Once it stopped it locked into park and couldnt be pushed off the road. Hazard lights would not work either car was completely blacked out in the middle of the road, and would not restart. Car behind us saw us in time and stopped and turned on their hazard lights till the fire department arrived to flag traffic. Towed vehicle to dealership. At dealership the next day the vehicle started like nothing was wrong, showed no codes. Dealership kept vehicle for 10 days and couldnt get the vehicle to duplicate the incident. They drove the car almost 100 mile and found nothing.
We were bringing our 2022 Wagoneer to the dealership to have them investigate an issue with the battery light coming on this morning. While driving on interstate 95 north, all power cut out on the car, the power steering stopped working and the brakes failed. My husband had to navigate across 4 lanes of traffice with now power or brakes or steering to get to the shoulder. The car was towed to our dealership, and they indicated our alternator died and battery died. There were no check engine lights indicating we had an alternator issue or that we should not drive the car in for service. We talked to the service department about the batter light the morning of 12/2/2024 and they had us drive it in. This needs to be looked at as it was a very dangerous situation to navigate on the interstate.
With less than 500 miles on the vehicle, while stopped at a stoplight, the vehicle automatically shifted from drive to park and had to be restarted in order to accelerate forward. Check engine light also came on. When stopped at the same light again moments later, the same thing occurred. These events happened within a couple minutes of each other. Vehicle would not accelerate until restarted. Took vehicle to get serviced, the next day within minutes after leaving the dealership and servicing, the check engine light came on after accelerating at a stop light with the same engine error codes.
On the highway and interstate highway, during stop in stop-and-go traffic, the vehicle randomly automatically shifts into park and apply the parking brakes when attempting to accelerate from standstill. This only happens when you try to move again after stopping, and the vehicle is shifted into park in the most inopportune times. It requires you not only to shift it back to drive with your right hand, and reaching under the dash with your left hand to release the parking brake. When task saturated during an emergency it is highly likely to cause an accident, such as turning left onto a divided country highway while the car is temporally stopped between the two highways. No dealership involvement yet. This occurs randomly, and I have not been able to find a way to replicate it at will. This has occurred more than a dozen of times. Warning light on the dash stating shifting the car into park, and audible beep. Dangerous because it occurs randomly on a highway. Unsure if it's related to automatic engine stopping, or adaptive cruise control.
Vehicle is one week old from dealership with 382 miles on odometer at time of incident. Driving under normal conditions. Paved city street in dry weather. Vehicle lost engine power and showed the error message on gauge cluster “shift into p”. Accelerator would not work till stopped vehicle in the middle of the road and shifted to park and back to drive gear.
Incident: was pulling up to a gated entrance waiting on gate to open, then as I pressed the gas to go, the engine shut off and lights appeared on dash in yellow- the auto shut off with an exclamation point, check engine light, traction control light, and the throttle control light was in red. The car was then cranked back up and pulled into parking space but did not move as it should it was slow. Turned car off again and this time it was very slow to crank. Once it was cranked, the car had a noticeable shake to the vehicle. Prior to incident, no issues or lights were on the dash. Car was tested by local mechanic and had the following codes appear on diagnostic test: p1414 cylinder 4 reactivation control performance, p032f combustion engine producing insufficient torque; p2172 high airflow/vacuum leak detected this happened one previous time pulling away from a stop light several months ago (again at a slow speed-car shut off and auto shut off light appeared). Did not report or document as I was able to get car cranked back up immediately and continue driving with no issues at that time.
I bought this vehicle used form carmax, <12000 miles. Drove about 12 miles, when while parking I noticed the car stopped and asked to start engine and engage gear again. Didn't think much of it. Then started driving again and the check engine light turned on. There are lots of reports of Wagoneers with engine light problems (in fact we had test driven a different one with both check engine and transmission lights on which for obvious reasons didn't buy). I reported to carmax. Finished my drive and stayed idle for a while trying to see if there were any settings that may be responsible, but the engine was stuttering, almost shutting off, with the entire thing, even the driving lights shutting off intermittently. The following day I took the vehicle for a check at carmax, and while slowing at an intersection to let a school bus pass, the car completely shut down. I started again and drove very carefully. They could not diagnose the problem at carmax and they wanted to send to Jeep. I eventually returned the vehicle. I had seen reports of many problems with the 2022 Wagoneer model, but none about the 2023, but I now came across forums where people even describe complete shutdowns of the vehicle while driving in the highway. While I returned the vehicle, I think these serious engine and system failures could endanger others on the road. I took videos and pictures of the problems. Happy to share if you request them.
Vibrations in steering and seating despite multiple balancing attempts and new tires.
This has happened on my vehicle twice, the first time I was stopping at a stop sign and the car gave a message about putting car in park and restarting, it put itself into park before I saw the message and so when I went to accelerate it just revved the engine. I had to push the on/off button to restart vehicle and it went. Same thing happened again about a month later (last week) this time I was pulling into our school’s drive to drop off kids but before I got to the drop off area it dinged, giving a message to put car in park and restart since I was getting ready to stop I was going to wait but almost as soon as I looked back up from reading the screen it slammed into park and same thing I had to push my on/off button to restart and go again. I was actually moving this time so we came to an abrupt stop with my children in the car. The service department said they couldn’t replicate and to come get the vehicle, I feel this is a huge safety concern for our family. What if it does this at highway speeds, I think someone will be greatly injured from this. We have a ticket open with Jeep but so far nothing.
I was driving and the vehicle shut down and shifted into idle mode while in driving mode. Smelled something burning. Turned car off and back on quickly (as was on the road) and the smell was gone but the check engine light was on. I took to dealership next morning and it has been three weeks now that it has been at the shop. They are saying it’s an issue with the hybrid part of the battery/engine that has gone bad.
Vehicle has had a noticeable vibration at highway speeds of 75-80 mph through the entire steering and front end, seemingly resulting in dangerous tire wear (to the point of being bald on the outside edges of front tires. ) problem has been evident since new. It has had tires replaced, been aligned by multiple dealers and had tires road force balanced, however nothing has improved. Vehicle does not feel secure at highway speeds, and tire wear dangerously impedes traction.
While sitting at the gas station in park, my feet were on the floor not touching the brake or gas pedal, the Wagoneer shifted itself into drive and started driving forward and collided with the parking barrier in front of me.
Service brakes because the brakes engaged on their own while reversing, with no obstruction present. Power train because the transmission downshifting unexpectedly in traffic, forcing us to pull over on the highway and restart the engine. Electrical because the rear camera blackouts while reversing fall under "back over prevention" and sometimes also electrical system. Engine because the oil pump solenoid failure with a complete oil pump replacement occurred. It's also an engine lubrication system failure which can cause catastrophic engine damage and loss of power.
Hi - I was driving on the highway and battery light turned on and then power steering failure light & brake failure light turns on and I pulled over going 60 mph across 3 lanes of traffic and then as soon as I got to side of road the car turned off and auto shifted into park. I don’t even know how I avoided what could’ve been a deadly accident. I was so lucky it didn’t shut off with people behind me going 70 mph. I wasn’t even braking to get to the side of the road, it just shut off completely. It wouldn’t turn on and couldn’t even use emergency flashers. I sat on the side of the road for 2 hrs for a flat bed tow truck who had to charge the vehicle to get it on. The dealership said they couldn’t find any codes for what went wrong. After spending so much money on this vehicle, I feel 100% unsafe for myself, my passengers, and others on the road. I really don’t think this is right - what will it take for someone to recall these vehicles and make sure they are safe? in all my years, I have never experienced a scarier moment. How will I know this will not happen again and potentially harm or cause death to myself or other passengers on the road? imagine a semi truck right behind you and the car just coming to a complete stop? dealership has no idea what caused it because they said no codes occurred.
The contact owned a 2022 Jeep Wagoneer. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 3-4 mph and coming to a stop, the abs, check engine, tpms, and power train warning lights and other unknown warning lights illuminated, before the vehicle shut off. The contact's wife was unable to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated. The dealer received remote assistance from Chrysler's engineers; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was traded for another vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 44,380.
The contact owns a 2023 Jeep Wagoneer. The contact received notification of customer satisfaction program 13b (power train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. The manufacturer's VIN tool confirms parts are available. Parts distribution disconnect.
On multiple occasions the vehicle will either randomly stop, or shift gears from drive/reverse to park.
