Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problems of the 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Two problems related to automatic transmission gear indicator have been reported for the 1997 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1998

Gear shifter came out of its housing as the car was being driven, due to weak lock, replacement of both upper and lower level shifter.

2 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 06/08/1998

While driving about 30 mph and shifting gears, the gear shift came off in driver's hand, causing driver to lose control of the vehicle. Owner experienced this problem 3 other times. All times the part was repaired by the dealership.
