general problems of the 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Six problems related to steering have been reported for the 1997 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2014

Frame was rotted through from control arm towards the back of the vehicle. The vehicle braking ability became difficult and hard to steer.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2014

While driving my Jeep on a public road going about 45, the vehicle began to shake uncontrollably. I had to pull over and stop the vehicle in order for the shaking to stop. It was incredibly dangerous, and I was lucky that I wasn't involved in an accident.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2014

Violent wobbling of front of Jeep , it comes and goes at different speeds and you must come to a sudden stop to avoid loosing controll of vehicle . I dont know what is causing this as there is no apparent damage to repair. In my opinion it is a factory defect and the vehicle is unsafe for use on public roads and highways.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2002

Consumer states that while driving ran over bump in the road and loss control of vehicle. Consumer feels the power steering resovoir was poorly designed. Please provide any further information. Ts.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/24/1999

Vehicle slid on ice/ lost control, and hit a boulder head-on. Then rolled over. Dual airbags did not deploy which could have caused injuries.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/30/1999

Vehicle involved in rollover accident. Rear passenger seat came loose, struck driver in head, ejected from vehicle. Should this have happened?.
