Six problems related to hood latch have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Hood pops up at highway speeds due to inadequate, unsafe rubber hood latches. At highway speeds the two rubber hood straps are not strong enough to hold the hood closed. On two lane roads, the air turbulence from large oncoming vehicles will cause the hood to lift approximately two inches until the safety latch engages. This causes a dangerous distraction when the hood rises and then slams down after the oncoming vehicle passes.
When driving my vehicle in windy conditions or when passing trucks on the highway either from the front or rear, the hood will move up and slam against the stop. It is so hard you can see the movement and hear the hood hit the safety catch. It will do this anytime there is a buffeting wind from the front or side. I am concerned the the hood will fail and come off and hit the windshield with a disastrous force.
Hood raises up 2 to 3 inches during high winds or when passed by approaching large truck.
The hood of my Jeep lifts up during the following conditions: 1) when driving at highway speeds on a windy day. 2) when driving over 50mph and a large vehicle, such as a truck, passes in the opposite direction. It appears that the 2 hood latches (one on each side) stretch enough to allow the hood to lift when there is sufficient air pressure generated from wind. The center hood latch has caught the hood during these occasions. I am concerned that the hood may come completely unlatched, then raise all the way up thus blocking my view - which may result in an accident.
Hood raises up about 2 inches and the safety catch holds the hood down when a semi truck is coming from the opposite direction or on windy days. The causes a big distraction when it looks as if the hood is going to fly up on a regular basis. Dealership advised that there is not a recall on the hood latches.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. While driving 65 mph or greater in windy conditions, the hood would vibrate and elevate half an inch. The dealer installed two rubber stops under the hood; however, the failure continued. As of November 13, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The failure mileage was 800 and current mileage was 15,140. Updated 01-11-08. The consumer stated the dealer informed him to put a weather strip on the vehicle but this method did not correct the defect. Updated 12/12/07.
