1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2025

Turned on ignition and wipers and headlights turned on with no control, car ignition beeped constantly, all dash lights illuminated, all gauges stopped working (speedometer, fuel, tachometer, temperature) and there was a clicking noise on the transmission. Had to drive home hoping my electrical system wouldn’t shut down while driving home. Narrowed down to faulty tipm.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2023

My Jeep Wrangler warning light cycled on under normal driving conditions. I drove it to my mechanic he said the code read was for the transmission. We checked the transmission fluid and it was filled with fluid. I drove it home into my driveway and I saw smoke and looked under the vehicle. I didn't find anything. When I stood up and walked around the vehicle I noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. I lifted the hood and flames where present. I closed the hood and ran for fire extinguishers to put out the fire. The Jeep has always been maintained and only has 92k miles on it. The whole incident was captured on my ring camera.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2022

Frank Hyundai sold this vehicle with significant structural damage to everything that is metal due to rust.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2022

Tipm failure while driving is very unsafe. Can cause lights, wipers, and other failures while driving, including intermittent dangerous stalling and non starting. Please don’t wait until deaths or injury occur before action of this widely known issue.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2021

Tipm has everything going crazy. When the Jeep is started the wriper start wiping and the the lights quit and there are no blinkers. Also happen when in movement.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2021

It has been a common known issue for at least the past year for Chrysler/Jeep to have faulty abs modules in their vehicles. The abs control module is a microprocessor that runs diagnostic checks of a vehicle's antilock braking system and processes information from wheel-speed sensors and the hydraulic brake system to determine when to release braking pressure at a wheel that's about to lock up and start skidding. It is probably one of the most important parts of a vehicle to make it safe. My local Jeep dealership said to me today that Chrysler plans to be able to allow them to order this part in February of 2023. I feel this is unacceptable, very unsafe and lives can be lost if the production of this part does not come sooner.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the headlight switch malfunctioned and the headlights would not turn on or off. Additionally, the turn signal light failed to operate and the reverse lights would not illuminate. The windshield wipers malfunctioned and would inadvertently ly turn on. The cause of the failures were not yet determined. The local dealer clay cooley Dodge located at 1261 e airport fwy, irving, TX 75062 and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. No assistance was offered. The contact also indicated that the throttle fuel pump was replaced however, the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 110,000.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2019

Faulty instrument cluster: displayed false warning alarms, especially during the first 30 minutes of driving. When taken in for safety recalls, Jeep showed 81,000 miles on engine computer, not the 8457 showing on instrument cluster.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2019

Complete electrical failure while driving on a city street. Unable to jump start vehicle.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2019

Left front turn signal works intermittently, power windows work intermittently, radio works intermittently. Was told it was the totally integrated power module. This seems to be a very common problem on the Jeep Wrangler.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2017

Wipers turn on by themselves, sometimes won't work when driving. Radio constantly reprogramming itself. Headlights sometimes come on without turning them on yet occasionally won't work when driving. While driving I've had the radio shut off, trip odometer reset, mileage reset, it's almost like the cpu resets in the middle of driving. Lastly, ive had the entire Jeep stall while stopped at intersections. Most times it takes 2-3 cranks to get it started. Nothing lights up on the dash when I try to start it. These things have happened approximately 30-40 times in the last year. The radio reprogramming itself happens daily.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2017

I was delivering mail, and while stopped at a box I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side of the hood. I pulled into the nearest driveway, and got out of the vehicle just before the engine compartment went up in flames.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2016

******* tipm issues *******while driving 70mph down interstate the Jeep lost all power and control abilities and came to a screeching halt in the middle of the interstate. I immediately tried to start up and was like it had a dead battery. Cars were swerving and blowing like crazy trying to avoid me and not wreck. Once traffic was somewhat stable I got out to push Jeep off to side of interstate and a another motorist stopped to help. My passenger was hurt from the sudden stop when her knees went into the dash. The seat belt did not restrain her resulting in her left knee getting bruised and her right knee got a cut. I have since researched this issue and have found this to be a very common and serious issue with these models. We are both lucky to be alive from this being that several vehicles nearly hit us as well as almost hitting others. There needs to be a warning addressed to all owners as this being a potential wreck less condition. I would like someone from Chrysler or the highway safety council contact me at cgodwin52@gmail. Com.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2016

The contact owned a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 55 mph, there was an odor of burning rubber or plastic inside the vehicle. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed smoke and flames inside the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the fire and a report was not filed. The contact was able to exit the vehicle without injuries. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a storage lot. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

Violent shaking of the steering wheel when the Jeep goes over a bump in the road. This is a regular occurrence. The last incident, the hazard lights on the dash panel came on and have not been able to turn off since then. Happens mostly on the highway or when the vehicle is traveling at 45-55 mph.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2016

My Jeep went on fire do to a bad or fulty fuse box. Reports say its a bad module in the fuse box. And it will get hot enough to start a fire. And was sitting in my drive way for 2 days.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2016

Clock spring on my 2009 Wrangler went out clearly a recall situation here. Safety for me as the driver and for my family as the passengers. Come on Jeep this is obvious !.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2016

While in motion and stationary the air bag warning light and chime come on randomly, sometimes seconds apart over times minutes, online research indicates that the air bag system maybe defective and this issue is a recall matter on right drive Jeeps mine however is a left drive. Started 2/17/2016 and has been going on ever since.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2016

The problem is the totally integrated power module. The front windshield wipers activate on there own with no control. The gauge cluster shuts down and all the dash lights turn on. You loose ability to control turn signals and headlights. The radio turns off. The airbag light comes on. This may occour at any time.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2016

The vehicle would not turn on I would have to continuously turn the ignition and finally it will turn on. The vehicle has recently began stalling and turning off when I would be sitting at a traffic light and vibrating very scarely. The check engine light came on so I took it to my machanic who stated it needed to have a tuneup because it was misfiring on five cylinders instead of six cylinders. The was done but five days later the problem returned and this time the taillight on the right side of the vehicle alone with the right side signal light were both out. I then took the vehicle to Jeep who charged me $140 just to tell me that it would cost me another $870 to replace the tipm. I don't understand how this could be happening on a vehicle with 72,000 miles if it was not defected to begin with. Barbara king.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2015

While working my mail route, only about 20 miles in, my right hand drive Wrangler started to smoke. I assumed because the vehicle never turned off when it began to smoke it was something small causing the issue. I was driving 15 mph when this occurred. I pulled over, shut off my vehicle and opened the hood. There was a fire on the passanger side of my vehicle under and behind my battery, rolling under the vehicle moving very quickly. I immediately closed the hood, got my belonging out of my vehicle and watched as it blew up, and I called 911. My vehicle is totaled. I am now learning that this is becoming a common occurance with Jeep! why are there no public warnings!! where are the recalls!!!!!!!! I and others could have been hurt or killed!!!!.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2015

While stopped at a light, my Jeep's airbag light came on and the warning ding sounded. The light would regularly switch off and on again, every time accompanied by the warning ding when the light turned back on. The light is pretty much always on now, and the warning ding only sounds when I start the vehicle. I had the airbag warning checked out at the local Jeep dealership and they have confirmed that the clock spring has failed. The clock spring appears to be a faulty design; Chrysler issued a voluntary recall after a previous NHTSA investigation (pe11019) but the same part/design is used from 2007 through 2012 in Jeep Wranglers.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2015

I am having a problem with my airbag light turning on and off repeatedly and dinging at me every time the light turns on. This problem just started after owning my vehicle since I drove it off the lot in early 2009. Upon research this is a very common problem that involves a very expensive part called the clockspring. There are numerous reports of this problem. This is a dealer only part.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

Air bag light turns on then goes off. Drive awhile, air bag light turns on turns off. There is a recall for right drive vehicles only. They need to make it effective for left drive vehicles as well. Dealer states its covered for right drive only vehicles not left drive vehicles. I know the postal service do not own Jeep Wranglers.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

Air bag warning light stays on, make a turn it goes out then comes back on and chimes in less than 60 seconds.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2014

The airbag clock spring in the steering column has malfunctioned causing airbags to be disabled. This is a very wide spread issue on 07-2011 Jeep Wranglers, well documented on many owner boards. An official recall exists, but only for rhd models and 2007 lhd models. That is in spite of the fact that the failure prone oe part was used on Wrangler models through 2011. The part number of the improved design replacement part is 5156106ac, which services all wrangles 2007-2014.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

Starting on 12/23/2013, the airbag sensor dinged and became lit on dash, remains lit for about 8 seconds, dings and disappear only to reappear again with a ding in about 8 seconds. This repeats the entire time while driving. Contacted NW Jeep/Chrysler and they informed this writer it is likely the clock spring and the airbag will not deploy if needed. The dealership continued of a price around $250 to fix it. I find it hard to believe, knowing 07 and 08 Jeeps have this same issue, that this writer would be responsible for fixing a faulty sensor imperative for safety.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

On the 2009 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. In conversations with my dealership as well as Chrysler, there was an extended warranty (10yr/150,000mi) issued to the 2007 model year and a recall issued for 2008 (rhd) models. For any other model years, Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring, knowing that it can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying, thus putting vehicle occupants at risk. This has been going on for approx a week at this point, at varying speeds and varying road conditions. Being that I drive approx 30,000mi per year, this is a major concern!.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

On the 2009 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2009 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2009 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

We have a 2009 right hand drive 4 door Wrangler. It is used for postal work. Air bag light keeps going off and on. There is a recall for this but Chrysler will not honor it on ours for some reason there is a recall number of11v528000 air bags frontal. They want us to pay for all work on this and it should be included in recall. In the meantime airbags will not work if needed.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

Airbag light is on and dinger comes on constantly, was told by dealer it is a clockspring failure, I have seen several comments on Jeep forums concerning this problem, Jeep is a rhd.

32 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

The wipers keep turning on by themselves and sometimes won't shut off. They also sometimes come on when the turn signals are used, and again sometimes won't turn off. They sometimes won't turn on. Also, bulbs, such as headlight, markers, and fog lights keep blowing out on an extremely frequent basis. All these thing happen when the Jeep is both in motion and idling both on city streets and highway driving. . . . . Going foreword and during mid turn. While accelerating and braking. All occurrences have happened during all 4 new york seasons. And at no specific time of day. We have no photos but this happens at various times and has happened many times since the Jeep was bought new in 2010 and this was brought to the attention of the dealership which informed me that they did not physically "see" it happen therefore could not diagnose. I will put a date in the "when did this happen box" below as a start point. . . But know it has happened many times and continues to happen to this day.

33 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2009

My 2009 Jeep Wrangler shut down completely as I was driving down the freeway. I managed to steer off to the side, but the motor and electrical shut completely down.
