2012 Jeep Wrangler jk clock spring assembly is faulty, circuit is open causing air bag light to illuminate and possible issues deploying air bag in event of a crash. Same issue as previous my jks. Air bag light will illuminate when steering wheel is turned, sometimes staying on or turning back off. Also seems to be happen more frequently during cool weather (less than 60 degrees f).

4 Air Bag Light On problem

Airbag light appears to come on every time I'm in motion and turns off when I'm at full stop. I looked at the NHTSA recall notices and seems I have incomplete recall regarding my passenger airbag.

Air bag light will not turn off.

7 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2020

Air bag light is on, horn doesn't work, radio controls on steering wheel doesn't work. I'm sure it's the clock spring but according to recalls mine wasn't under the recall. Worked perfectly on way home from work, got in a few hours later to get dinner and nothing worked, air bag light came on and horn wouldn't work.

8 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2020

I had my driver's side clock spring replaced at dealership in 2019 due to recall. Last 2 months, airbag light comes on and off but usually only when I am in full turn. On Aug 3, 2020, I noticed my outside temp was reading celsius so I tried to change it back to fahrenheit. Button was not working. Checked my horn. . . Nothing. . . . Cruise control. . . . Nothing. I noticed my steering wheel making clicking kind of popping sound. 30 min later, I put my Jeep in park and the air bag deployed.

9 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2020

The airbag light has continuously stayed on no matter trying to reset it or sitting in the seat it's just been on and I'm afraid that it's faulty.

10 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

Controls on the steering wheel started to go, including horn, air bag light, hands free controls. Mechanic and research done indicates it's the clock spring. This is a left hand drive vehicle. I know there is a recall on the right hand drive vehicles from this year.

11 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2019

Clockspring required replacement. Intermittant airbag light, intermittant function from controls on steering wheel. No pattern to intermittant functioning, I personally cleaned out all contacts and harnesses before paying dealership to replace clockspring.

12 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2019

My airbag light has come on at 80,000 miles 1. 20. 2019. I was told it is the clockspring. 2 months ago my wa580(nag1) transmission began to shift itself going uphill trying to find the right gear. I was told it was the valvebidy which is not under warranty even though the same part was replaced at 35,000 miles.

13 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2018

Takata recall- a few days ago my airbag light started turning on and off each time I started my car and now the light has remained on.

14 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2018

The air bag light on the dashboard just randomly alerts off and on and this was at the same time all the left side panels of the steering wheel stopped working including the horn. If someone is sitting in the passenger side front seat and their distribution of weight shifts the air bag passenger alert system let's you know it's not functioning properly. I was told the problem has something to do with a clockspring and it's air bag wiring under the passenger side front seat to the alert system. I saw on this site where it mentioned a clockspring problem. It does this whether stopped or going. This is continuously an issue now. Please advise how I need to proceed with the recall.

15 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2017

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. While driving at any speed periodically, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred. The dealer was contacted (sheets Chrysler Dodge Jeep, 250 auto dr, beckley, wv, 25801, 304-252-4555). The contact was informed that there was no recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

16 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2017

Driver steering wheel air bag light is on. Horn and all steering wheel buttons except cruise control do not work. Light comes on and off repeatedly.

17 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2017

At around 49000 miles, the airbag light comes on and off periodically while driving. Had local dealer run diagnostics. The problem was determined to be a faulty clock spring sensor. Total cost of parts and labor around $600. I chose not to have it fixed at this time.

18 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2017

Air bag warning indicator pinged and flashed intermittently.

19 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2016

Takata recall - my airbag light is on and Chrysler will not cover the repairs. The vehicle was started in the morning and the light came on and has yet to go off.

20 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2016

The clocksping went bad in my vehicle and I was told it is not under warranty or in recall!the reason I took it in was the airbag light came on and stayed on. My problem with this is it is a safety issue and should be covered to protect me and my family.

21 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2016

My vehicle clock spring has gone out. My vehicle has 45000 miles and is a model year 2012. Other years, specifically 2008-2011 have been recalled for the very same thing. Also 2012 rhd models have been recalled for the very thing. My airbag light chimes and is illuminated when driving the vehicle, whenever I turn left, right or stop or accelerate.

22 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2016

Airbag light goes on and off intermittently while driving. This happens mostly at speeds greater than 20 mph. This started about 3-4 months ago.

23 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2016

Clockpin. Airbag light is at all times. Warning sound "dings" often. Dealership states airbags will not function until the clockpin is replaced.

24 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2016

The airbag light came on the other day. After reading Jeep forums I understand this is the clock spring that has a recall for older year Wranglers. I also understand that you have been notified that this is a problem with newer Wranglers and have not yet issued a recall. The vehicle has 68000 miles and this is related to safety. The vehicle was stationery when the light turned on.

25 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

Air bag light came on while driving down a local city street. Took it in to the dealership and it was diagnosed as a faulty clock spring rendering the air bag inoperable. My complaint is that NHTSA already has 2 recalls on this problem but for right hand drive Wranglers only. My Jeep has the same problem, concerning the same parts, for the same reasons the right hand drive air bag failures occurred. Jeep refuses to cover my Jeep under these recalls. Nhtsa campaign number: 13v176000 and NHTSA campaign number: 11v528000.

26 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

The airbag light came on intermittently for a week. By the time I had decided to take my Jeep in for service the light no longer comes on. I checked on the internet and discovered it was a clockspring problem but since there is no error light on now, I cannot take it in for repair. How do I know my airbags are working? my blower also cuts off occasionally and then comes back on. It does this at least once a year.

27 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

Airbag clockspring was replaced under recall m031 in early 2012. The part recalled had failed again causing airbag light to be illuminated, loss of speed control, loss of steering wheel audio controls, loss of horn, and loss of "step" and "reset buttons for the information center. This issue started out when turning the steering wheel in the left or right position and within a few weeks has became a constant problem to no avail.

28 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2016

Air bag light and warning is going on and off when turning the steering wheel. Dealer says the clock spring needs to be replaced. There is a recall on right hand drive vehicles and numerous reports of all clock springs failing.

29 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

2012 right hand drive Jeep exhibiting all the symptoms described in recall of of other 2012 models with airbag clock problem, but VIN number does not appear in recalls. Airbag light is no longer intermittent but rather is now on continuously.

30 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Faulty clockspring airbag light appears sporadically when vehicle is in motion and I have someone in the passenger seat, notifying me that their airbag is deactivated. Horns volume is weak. Possibly a coincidence, but the low tire pressure alert appears at start-up. All tires (goodyear lt285/70r17) read 45-50 psi. This part is recalled in 2007 and 2008 Jeep Wranglers, but not for 2009-2016. It is the exact same part.

31 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2015

The airbag light came on and then shut off, when I went to the dealership for inspection they stated that it would not pass because of the airbag light coming on. I have read that this has become a common problem with my year vehicle, and that there may be an investigation in regards to it. The problem that was diagnosed was an electrical failure in the clock spring/steering wheel. I had to replace the clock spring for a total of $518. 31 out-of-pocket.

32 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2015

Confirmed bad clockspring unit by dealership that controls the driver side airbag. Unit was not exposed to anything extreme like water or heat but just stopped working while driving home from work airbag light came on. When the steering wheel is turned the sensor light goes back off so the sensor turns on and off with regular driving on any road or condition.

33 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2015

The airbag light came on and the left steering wheel controls quit working, later all steering wheel controls quit working. I researched and found a previous recall for the clock spring which was up until models manufactured in November 2011. Called the dealership and was told there was no recall on my vehicle. Mine is a right hand drive manufactured in March 2012. It is a safety issue and should be recalled. It happened out of warranty.

34 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2014

My airbag light has been turning on and off as I drive. Looked online and see this is not a uncommon problem. The clockspring in the newer Jeep wrangers 07 up, seem to go bad with what I feel is not very high mileage. I see a recall on 07 models but not for any years after. Why Chrysler feels its ok for the airbag to be turning on and off while driving on newer models is alarming to me. If I were to be involved in an accident while it was turned off, or anyone for that matter, I would feel guilty as a major auto corp. Knowing that this is a recurring problem. I feel this needs to be handled for the safety of everyone driving, not just the ones in Jeeps Wrangler.

35 Air Bag Light On problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2013

While driving, and without incident, my airbag indicator light came on and began dinging. It would cut off, then begin come on again with any turn or slight bump. . . So basically, my Jeep is dinging at me every 30 seconds or so. I contacted my local dealer and was told there were no recalls on my Jeep. I took it to my local shop (grayson tire and auto) for tire rotation and oil change. They ran diagnostic and found the fault was with the clock spring and advised me that it should be a warranty item. I did some online research and found that there is a recall for the clock spring (l37/nhtsa11v-528) for 2008-2012 right hand drive models, and that a similar recall for the 2007 models had been extended to include the left hand drive models and the warranty on the clock spring had been extended to 10 years, 150,000 miles. Looking at blogs on the internet, there is obviously a problem with the clock spring with Jeep vehicles. I even found some documentation that of the 181 complaints that were filed for the initial recall, 82 were in rhd's. . . So 99 were in lhd's. . .
