Failure Date: 08/13/2025

The contact owned a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at approximately 65 mph, she noticed a burning odor in the vehicle's cabin, and the sway bar warning light illuminated. The husband looked out of the driver's window and observed fire coming from under the vehicle. While attempting to steer to the side of the road, the front of the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The couple managed to exit the vehicle safely. The contact's husband tried to extinguish the fire, but it continued to engulf more. The fire department arrived and extinguished the blaze. A police report was filed, and the vehicle was towed to a lot. The manufacturer was notified of the incident. The failure occurred at 51,000 miles.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2025

The engine in my 2020 Jeep Wrangler sahara suddenly failed and was diagnosed by the dealership as a complete internal failure involving the lifters and camshaft. The dealership explained that this type of failure can spread metal fragments throughout the oil system, requiring a full engine replacement. This creates a serious safety hazard, as the engine can shut down unexpectedly while driving, putting both the driver and others at risk. The issue has been confirmed by the dealership’s technician and shop foreman, and the vehicle has been at the dealer for over a month awaiting a replacement engine, which is currently on national backorder. There were no prior warning lights or error messages before the failure. The failure occurred without warning, and the vehicle is not drivable. This problem appears to be affecting multiple Jeep Wrangler owners and may represent a systemic defect that should that should be investigated!.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2025

Had to take my 2020 Wrangler in to have accessory battery replaced as it had drained my newly purchased battery and my car wouldn’t start. Repair shop replaced both batteries and about a week later the check engine light came on for about 2 minutes then went off so I chalked it up to the battery replacement. It didn’t come back on again until about 3 weeks later when I started feeling a slip when going in to second gear. When I got home after having that issue I noticed a small collection of what looked to me like transmission fluid on my garage floor so I had the car towed to the repair shop again. They informed me that engine oil was mixing with coolant due to a bad oil cooler. Between that diagnosis and my car completely breaking down and cracking my engine block the car was driven a total of 14 miles at the most. There was never any other signs prior to me taking it to the shop that the oil cooler had gone bad and even when they replaced the batteries no codes came up for the bad oil cooler and nobody noticed anything while working in the area. . Since then I have learned that this has been an ongoing issue with the Wrangler since at least 2012 models and there has been several class action suits that were settled out of court I’m assuming so they don’t have to spend the money recalling and repairing every affected vehicle and finding a fix for future models. Meanwhile I have only had my car for 2 years as of last week and now am being charged $15000 $8000 of which I have to pay up front to even find out how long the parts needed will be on back order. Could be a week could be a year. Not to mention that I have no car to drive and a car payment to make while I wait. This needs to be fixed as these cars are overheating out of nowhere and shutting down when it does. It’s a safety issue as well as a consumer issue.

The contact sustained an injury to her knee, and medical attention was provided. The airbags deployed. There were no reported fires. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a towing lot. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The vehicle was deemed a total loss by the insurance company.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/29/2025

My vehicle had a rough idling and then flashed an autostart symbol and stated on the dashboard that my autodash has been disabled. Later that day I drove my vehicle again, then the dashboard lit up like a christmas tree and every light was on and my car went limp. I pulled over on the side of the road and let my car stay off thinking it would help. Waited some time and tried to turn it on and it wouldnt turn back on until the 5th attempt. Took my vehicle to Jeep a few days later where they diagnosed it saying it needs a new abs control module. However, the control module is on back order with no eta in sight. There are multiple other people in my exact situation waiting 6+ months for their abs control module. My car is undriveable as it has no traction control, will go limp, and no abs system. I have been without my car for a month and they have not provided a loaner. To my research this has been an issue since September of 2023 and has yet to be a recall.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2025

The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 35 mph and decelerating while approaching a stop light, there was misfire coming from the engine, and the traction control activated, causing the brakes to become inoperable. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The “service start/stop system” message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined there were metal shavings in the oil. The dealer recommended an engine replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and confirmed there was no warranty or recall coverage on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 124,000.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2025

The engine started to misfire due to bad components. The check engine light did not come on to indicate there was an issue until it was too late and the damage was done not only to the engine but other components as well. This was extremely dangerous as the issues resulted in loss of power while driving with my young children in the car as I had just picked them up from school. The vehicle has been inspected by a mechanic who believes that at this point the engine may need to be replaced entirely. My vehicle just passed 100,000 miles so is no longer covered by warranty and now I am stuck with over an $11,000 bill to replace my engine because it was built poorly to begin with, hence the class action lawsuit against Jeep for this particular motor.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2025

The cams are bad. I am now waiting almost 2 months for repairs. I keep calling and am being told that this is a common problem and they have 15 other Jeeps with the same issue and can't get the parts. This is my third time having my Jeep at the dealership for the same problem.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2024

The situation detailed in document zd8 is currently impacting my Jeep, as well as an overwhelming number of other Jeeps across the country. It is quite distressing to learn that the part I urgently need—the coolant bottle reservoir—is entirely on backorder. To make matters worse, this particular component is no longer being manufactured. What raises alarms for me is how this scenario can be regarded as acceptable at all. It prompts serious questions regarding the nature of the recall, particularly since it has been classified as voluntary. This classification appears to be quite misleading, given that the issue extends beyond just specific vehicle identification numbers (vins). In reality, the problem has a much broader reach than merely the listed vins, impacting a wider array of vehicles than is currently being recognized. It is troubling that so many Jeep owners are left without this essential part for their vehicles, beckoning a broader reflection on the accountability of manufacturers when faced with such significant issues. The extensive impact of this situation raises urgent calls for clarity, responsibility, and action to address the needs of affected consumers. This situation not only undermines trust but also highlights the pressing need for the automotive industry to prioritize consumer safety and welfare.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2024

The vehicle on multiple occasions has "lunged" forward while the driver had foot on the brake and the vehicle was near an idle mode. The most recent occurrence happened on/about October 21, 2024. The incident was report to Jeep customer service and they opened ticket number 91301121. Jeep advises to have the vehicle diagnosed but refuses to pay for the diagnoses of to verify the vehicle is safe to drive. I have advised them the vehicle is unsafe since this has occurred on multiple occasions. The latest incident involved the vehicle lunging forward 18-24" before the operator could gain control of the vehicle. The vehicle nearly missed the garage door framing and another parked vehicle in the garage. Had there been a person in front of the vehicle, they would have bee hit and the same could easily happen if a pedestrian was crossing the street in front of the vehicle.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2024

The wipers were on and lights were flickering. The car does not turn on.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2024

Unknown what started the issue. While driving it, service electronic control dash light went on. The vehicle started losing power. We were able to get to the highway shoulder. Other dash lights were going on as we were moving over. Immediately after putting it in park and turning the vehicle off, smoke started billowing out from the hood. The vehicle engine was on fire and it was completely destroyed. The only on-going issue we had with it was auto start/stop with both auxiliary and main battery having to be replaced twice over the course of 4 years. There was an active recall for fuel pump component and we were on a waiting list for parts from the dealer since sept 2023 and we were still waiting.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2024

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2024

I was driving my 2020 Jeep Wrangler on the highway when all of a sudden I felt the car shake. I pulled quickly to the side of the highway as I thought I maybe had a tire issue. When I got to the side, the car was making a strange noise, so I called aaa to be towed. I had no warning lights or anything to advise me that I was about to have an issue. I was lucky to get to the side of the highway without having a safety issue. After the mechanic checked out the car they noticed the oil pump had failed which caused the engine to seize. The car only had 63,176 miles on it with all the regular oil changes performed at the Jeep dealership. I had no leaks of oil, or warning lights and Jeep didn't indicate any issues at the last oil change. I feel this is a big safety issue. Had I not got over to the side of the road, my car would be dead in the middle of the highway with no warning.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

My Jeep Wrangler 2020 sports unlimited started malfunctioning on the road and the Jeep stopped, started smoking, caught on fire, and blew up.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2024

An internal defect in the 2014-2020 Jeep Wranglers with the 3. 6l pentastar v6 engine affects its rocker arms, lifters, and related valvetrain components, including the engine control module (ecm) software that controls the precise timing and function of the lifters. Specifically, the rollers of a pentastar engine’s rocker arms prematurely wear down, become loose, and then drop, which shifts the rocker arm out of alignment. The rocker arms then come into contact with the cam, scraping both components and creating metal debris. This pentastar v6 engine defect creates an audible ticking sound that stems from metal particles and debris from the failed rocker arms and other components, contaminating the engine oil and circulating throughout the engine. This defect also causes engine misfires, resulting in bucking and surging, decreased engine performance, hesitation, loss of power, premature wear on internal components, and eventually catastrophic engine failure. The check engine light came on in my 2020 Jeep Wrangler with 69,000 miles. After having it read by a dealer, it showed the p219a code, bank 1 air/fuel imbalance. The dealership told me that if the Jeep was running fine, I did not have to worry about it, as it was likely an O2 sensor. The code was cleared, and the p219a code returned the following day. It was driven approximately 500 miles before noticing that it began idling roughly and had an engine tick, which the dealership confirmed to be a valvetrain issue. The rocker arms, lifters, valves, and camshaft components of the pentastar v6 engine in my 2020 Jeep Wrangler with 70,000 miles have failed. Three Jeep dealerships in my area and many online forums stated that this is a common occurrence with this engine, which has escalated my concern about this problem.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2024

Power steering failed and lost engine power. Very dangerous and potentially life threatening event. Unit would not start again for at least 15 minutes. This is the second time this has happened since the dealership was supposed to have fixed by changing out the battery. I reiterate these are very dangerous events and could cause a fatal traffic accident.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2023

Vehicle started to get extreme smell of gas fumes, interior and exterior, to the point it would make you nauseous. My vehicle was taken to a dealer where the tech noticed that a fuel pump was leaking and a fuel line behind the engine had a small hole in it and was leaking on the top and was unlikely debris hit it, to get at the line the whole motor has to get dropped. After reading the description of the fuel line/pump issues with the 2020 2. 0 l, this seems that it would be related and part of the effected parts.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2022

I am getting an error message to "service shifter", and "service stability". The cars goes into a limp mode. The dash board alarms every error possible. Driving the car is unsafe, as it is unpredictable. When the car is off and the keys are not in it, the car will run in some way because the windshield wipers will start working. The vehicle has been brought to the dealership 4 times now with the same problem. They have not yet been able to permanently correct the issue. At most, I have gone 50 mile until the issue comes back. The warning messages will "ding" and appear on screen and the steering wheel will prevent driving any other way than straight forward. There were no other symptoms in the car, the car has been serviced regularly and on schedule by the dealership, and has approx 32k miles at this time. I have been researching the issue in different forums, and it appears that this has been reported as an issue since 2018. Unfortunately, I have yet to see a solution posted on the matter.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2022

When you try to accelerate on to highway or try to accelerate to change lanes the engine losses power or the power shuts down. Trying to pass and losing power I had to return to my previous lane and forced several vehicles to slam on their brakes in my previous lane so I could return. Loosing power trying to enter the passing lane forced the vehicle to slam on their brakes that I had just merged into. On another 2 other occasions vehicle looses power when trying to merge onto freeway. First occasion I was able to pull off to shoulder to avoid flowing traffic. Second incident there was no shoulder when merging onto freeway. Semi truck changed lanes to avoid my vehicle because I could not accelerate to speed. These incidents seem to happen with altitude and freeway driving speeds. There are no engine codes showing. This recent incident happened in the shasta pass area.
