general problems of the 2023 Jeep Wrangler - part 1

From a stop sign vehicle would only accelerate to 4 mph and then completely lost forward propulsion, forcing a tow to the dealership.

My vehicles check engine light came on in the morning when starting the vehicle. It was a solid check engine light not flashing. I proceede to drive the vehicle and while pressing the accelerator the vehicle does not move. The engine done not connect immediatly, this is a hybrid vehicle so it attempts to use both the electrical and gas motors. The engin begins to rev very high and then after somewhere between 5-10 secounds of no power the vechicle jumps forward with the gas engine connecting. I attempt to put the vehicle into gas only mode, but this also does not work as this setting is turned off along with the electrical only mode. Other interior electronics are not working either. When attempting to drive to my local auto parts store to find out the codes for the check engine the vehicle shut off the gas engine preventing the vehicle from accelerating. Then seemingly randomly the engine will kick on and lurch the vehicle forward and then stop and turn off the gas engine again. The safty of myself and other are at risk because of the uncontrolable acceleration or loss of power randomly while driving. The problem has now been reproducable for multiple days. I have reported it to my dealership bloomington chrystler, Jeep, Dodge, ram. And was told they do not have any appointments available and I should wait and should be safe to continue driving. Upon getting the codes from the auto parts store obd2 scanner I received 4 counts of the p0bee code and 1 count of the p1abc code. I informed my dealership of this and they told me that I should continue to drive it until my appointment and that they can assess it then. In the mean time I have lost power in the middle of intersections while attempting to drive through. I have lurched forward into crosswalks with pedestrians attempting to cross the street at stop signs and have lost power on streets when slowing down causing the vehicle to be unable to restart until coming to a complete stop and restarting.

After the 68c recall the power of the electric drive is limited. Frequent power loss occurs on highway driving during acceleration (merging onto highway or passing other cars). Despite the battery being charged up to 50% there is only 25% power available. The car is a plug in hybrid vehicle. The internal combustion engine starts in these cases with several seconds delay. During that time the car does not accelerate sufficiently to safely merge onto a highway or pass other cars. The power loss happens without warning during critical drive situations like merging onto a highway or passing other cars. The driver expects a continuous level of power by the car, not a sudden power loss. This is reported by countless other drivers on all social media platforms as a consequence of the 68c recall that affects 350 000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and grand cherokee 4xe. Jeep does not respond to customer complaints or requests for clarification.

Our Jeep 4xe underwent the recall for the hybrid battery. The battery was replaced in may 2026, since then the vehicle hesitates to accelerate at speed causing a safety concern. This vehicle has been recalled so many times we have no confidence in the vehicle.

While driving, my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe suddenly loses drive power without warning. The car is a plug in hybrid vehicle. The vehicle routinely displays 'electric temporarily unavailable'. When it happens, I press the accelerator and the vehicle does not respond; there is a delay of several seconds with little or no power before the gas engine engages. This is a serious safety hazard — the loss of power is sudden and unpredictable, and the delay leaves me unable to accelerate when merging or pulling into traffic. The condition is reproducible and began after the 68c recall software update. The driver expects a continuous level of power by the car, not a sudden power loss. This is reported by countless other drivers on all social media platforms as a consequence of the 68c recall that affects 350,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and grand cherokee 4xe. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer multiple times; each visit results in 'no codes found' and 'operating as designed,' and it has not been repaired. Jeep does not respond to customer complaints or requests for clarification.

Vehicle dropped off at the mcgovern Chrysler Jeep dealership in newton, MA on March 31, complete transmission failure, vehicle has active recall 25v-741 and resolved recalls including 25v-766 (engine sand contamination affecting propulsion).

After a recent recall (68c) the vehicle performance has greatly deteriorated. The elec mode propulsion has been limited, the internal combustion engine (ice) engages much sooner than previous. Instead of a 'warm-up' cycle for the ice, it feels as though there is actual clutch engagement, but with limited power. I feel this could have the potential to accelerate engine wear with a 'cold' engine with rapid engagement, as well as increased fuel/oil dilution (inherent with direct injection turbo engines). In turn, causing the vehicle to experience fuel oil refresh mode (form) more frequently, due to short, repetitive engine cycles. Additionally, the regenerative braking has been cut in half, leading to a decrease in electric charger egeneration to the hv battery, as well as decreased range and power. It is most obvious in stop and go traffic, when attempting to pull out in traffic, as well as when attempting to merge onto a highway or interstate. I feel, without intervention, the current vehicle performance will certainly lead to increased mechanical issues, a potential for frequent service department visits, as well as an increased potential for probable incidents/accidents during operation. I understand stellantis has offered an extended warranty for the hv battery (unlimited years/miles, with limitations). However, samsung sdi should be pressured to actually fix their hv battery, not replace it with a similar known faulty battery. This vehicle, in my honest opinion, can be made safe and reliable, but only with intervention and pressure from outside agencies with the power to force the manufacturer(s) to do so -- and my service department agrees. That is why I am elevating these issues, to hopefully enact change, and quite possibly, reduce the potential for catastrophic failures and/or an increased potential for accidents resulting in injury/death. Car began slipping not wanting to shift gears humming loudly and driving rough at 61k miles on a 2023. Being told it’s dclutch and possible transmission needed. No warning just out of nowhere.

In highway speeds the death wobble is uncontrollable. To the point my daughters in the back got scared and cried thinking we would crash. I take to Jeep and they told me nothing was wrong. They lied to me.

The hybrid propulsion system in my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe intermittently malfunctions while driving. The “d” (drive) indicator on the gear selector begins flashing, and the engine rpms suddenly decrease without warning. During these events, the vehicle loses propulsion power and responsiveness. After several seconds, the vehicle may return to normal operation. This failure affects the hybrid powertrain and transmission system. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This condition creates a serious safety risk because the sudden loss of propulsion reduces the vehicle’s ability to accelerate or maintain speed in traffic. This is especially dangerous when merging, crossing intersections, or driving at highway speeds, as it increases the risk of collision due to loss of power and reduced vehicle control. The vehicle has been evaluated by a Jeep dealership service department. The dealership has not provided a permanent repair, and the manufacturer recall affecting the hybrid system remains open and unresolved. The recall repair has not been performed, and the hybrid malfunction continues to occur. The vehicle has been inspected by dealership personnel, but the issue remains unresolved. The dealership indicated that replacing the 12-volt battery may help, but no definitive root cause has been identified, and the hybrid system malfunction continues. There were no battery warning lights prior to or during the failure. The primary symptom is the flashing “d” indicator and sudden decrease in rpms, followed by temporary recovery. This indicates a malfunction of the hybrid propulsion system. This unresolved hybrid system failure presents an ongoing safety hazard and loss of propulsion while driving.

The contact stated that recently the vehicle started hesitating while driving at various speeds while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact noticed that white smoke was coming from the exhaust pipe. Additionally, the contact stated that after shifting into reverse(r), the indicator on the instrument cluster and the console started to flash, and the vehicle failed to reverse as intended. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v741000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

I just left my house and I was getting on the highway and the service 4 wheel drive light came on then all a sudden the car slowed down then it accelerated really fast so I pulled over and put it in park then when I tried to continue driving I put it in drive and it would not move. The engine ran but it would not move so I had to get it towed to the dealership.

My son was turning out of a parking lot and the car suddenly stopped moving and went into park. He couldn’t shift out of park and was stuck in the middle of a very busy street with cars slamming on their brakes to avoid hitting him. The car had to be towed away.

Sway bar light is flashing - research says that it could be unsafe to drive- took it in for repair today 9/10/25 - vehicle under warranty until December. Vehicle repaired "for now" was advised to have checked on next oil change verbally. At this time the vehicle will be out of warranty. (3 years - only has 23680 mile currently) but warranty ends at this point. Why should I be responsible for an issue after this when they know there is a problem? should this defect be a recall? from what I read on the internet this is very common. My vehicle has never been off road and looks like brand new and has not experienced driving through large amounts of water/rain. Were in a drought.

While driving on the highway, the vehicle experienced total power loss. Instrument cluster showed a service charging system now error. Had to coast to wide of road. Instrument cluster also said m “put in park to start vehicle” with a flashing “d” on the gear selector. After turning off and back on, power returned.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wobbling was caused by the damper, and the transmission needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.

Jeep and dealers are failing to complete safety recall NHTSA recall number24v-720. My vehicle was dropped off at the dealership ( repair orders attached ) on Dec 11 for the recall . Jeep has launched the recall process which is a software update and a specific drive cycle. I have reasons to believe that the dealership did not properly followed the steps after the software updates. I have gps logs to show. I had contacted Jeep support about that and I did not receive any positive help on this. Vehicle was sent out again on Jan 6th, but still I have no confidence that the steps were followed properly. Internet is flooded with how Jeep has poorly managed the recall process by over complicating the drive cycle and how dealers are negligent about the process. This is a safety recall and could cause fire/explosion and take lives. I strongly advise NHTSA to intervene and make Jeep/dealers liable to ensure the process is followed.

Recall 19a Jeep released a vehicle with a defective clutch assembly that required full replacement. Unfortunately, they "applied a software fix to a hardware problem". This still hasn’t solved things and is still very concerning. This fix is completely unacceptable. I have a 2023 Jeep with only 16k miles. The only acceptable solution would be a buy back. Someone needs to get involved. There are people with completely useless vehicles now.

Jeep caught on fire while it was parked in the driveway there as a ecall on the battery as it s a 4xe I had an appointment with the Jeep dealer on the 16th of December and they cancelled it few days before the scheduled appointment they said they didnt have any loaners as it was a 2 day job they would call to reschedule they did not and it blew up on the 27th of December.

The battery recall from Jeep still does not have any tentative timeline and no further communications from Jeep. At this point, Jeep has not offered any compensation towards the gas costs which otherwise could have been much less with electricity. Safety is my primary concern and I have to rent vehicles for the major trips especially during the holiday months.

My vehicle is currently under 95b recall from Jeep. I have spent more than 8 hours on hold, on the phone, via email, attempting a resolution as my Jeep is unable to be parked away from other vehicles or structures as I reside in a residential neighborhood, or away from structures at work, as I work at an elementary school with limited parking options. Jeep is completely aware of the situation and unwilling to provide a loaner vehicle as there are "not any available" at this time. With over 150,000 vehicles recalled, all vehicles at any Jeep dealer should be being offered as loaner vehicles at this time, as there is no fix for this situation in sight. My vehicle is at risk for bursting into flames at any moment. I cannot drive it using electricity which is why it was purchased. The vehicle is an ongoing threat to myself, my place of work, and my community, Jeep is aware, and they are not doing anything to resolve the issue. My Jeep only has 13,000 miles on it and is still under warranty. I have requested a buy back option as Jeep is unable to provide a safe location to store my vehicle or an alternative vehicle to drive, however have not heard back from their customer service team. I have emails, calls, and a contact log of all correspondence. The lack of customer service and solutions being offered to customers should be considered criminal as the risk of not just my 4xe, but all those under recall, are an immediate threat to the lives of others.

When cold, the vehicle will shift hard and/or delay shifting both causing the vehicle to jerk or lunge forward. This happens between 3 & 4 gear. One dealer was not able to recreate the issue and another was able to. No repairs were made as stellantis stated because there are no service lights on they are no mechanical issues. The problem continues to get worse. This appears to be a common problem.

Loss of power while driving in electric mode with sufficient battery charge left. This has happened multiple times at speeds greater than 55 mph. No error codes were reported on the dash. Required the car to be put manually into hybrid mode for power to be restored.

Jeep just shut down while heading down interstate 81 about 70 mph in far 3fd left lane not much time to exit the highway had to sit on the left side of the highway and put in park and restart it did start up after the complete shutdown.

The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4ex shutdown on highway at speed 75 mile/h!!!!! and cannot restart, gear only in p position. Only towing.

While driving on [xxx] to upstate NY in heavy traffic on [xxx], my Jeep Wrangler 4xe lost power and showed the error message "put vehicle in park and shift gear" while at highway speed. I had no ability to accelerate but steering was still enabled and allowed me to pull over to the side of the road to investigate. Fortunately I was being followed by another member of my family and they provided a bit of a roadblock to allow us to navigate the traffic. At the time power was lost, the console had several warning lights including the check engine light, multiple battery system lights and others. After shutting the Jeep off, it started up again normally as if nothing had happened. I called the dealer who basically said they couldn't reproduce the issue but it had happened to others and clears on its own. Additionally, up to this point, the Jeep had several times been unable to charge in the warm summer weather with error messages check charging system and the check engine light which I was able to clear with an obdii scanner. Driving down a street when the Jeep shut down all propulsion systems and sent an error code that the charging system would not work. We moved safely to the side of the road, restarted the Jeep, and drove home with no error lights. The next day, the Jeep threw error codes again upon startup. We took to the dealer who is analyzing.

While driving the vehicle it will suddenly shut down the engine. Then the letter "d" starts to blink on the gear shift lever. I am able to restart the car by turning it off, waiting for 5 minutest and then restart the car. I turned in the car 3 weeks ago and they still do not know what the problem is.

I was driving my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 2 door willys on a 4 lane divided road approaching a stop light. The stoplight was red so I started slowing down approximately 200 feet from the intersection. I applied the brake pedal and the vehicle started to slow down. As I was approaching the intersection I could feel the vehicle accelerating and it was difficult to get it to stop. I was almost stopped approximately 3 - 5 feet from the vehicle in front of me, when the Jeep lunged forward and struck the vehicle in front of me. The Jeep continued to accelerate and was trying to push the vehicle in front of me. I shoved the gear shift into park and that stopped the acceleration. I never took my foot off of the brake pedal during the entire incident. The force of the acceleration lifted the front of my vehicle and my bumper went on top of the other vehicle's bumper and dented the rear hatch of the other vehicle. There were no indicator lights before or after the incident. I drove the vehicle to my home approximately a mile from the accident without issues. I later had the vehicle towed to the cdjr dealer for inspection. After 3 weeks in the service center, they did not find any issues and could not reproduce the problem and the vehicle was released back to me.

While driving on the freeway, the car showed a message saying “performance issue” and lost power. I couldn’t accelerate and the car stopped. I couldn’t power on or down the car. It looked like an alternator issue and it wasn’t giving enough power to the battery. Aaa arrived hour and half later. Tried to jump but it didn’t do anything. Finally had to tow the car to the nearest dealership. The car is not even a year old and has less than 10k miles. Its a safety issue being stuck like that without any warning signs at middle of the freeway!.

Starting in late February 2024, my new vehicle has had numerous major oil leaks which have not been able to be repaired successfully. Oil has leaked out and pooled on the drivers side of the transmission bell house. Given the oil leaks proximity to the heat from the turbo charger down pipe, exhaust pipe, and various other ignition sources, the vehicle is at an elevated risk for catching on fire. This could result in a accident or serious bodily injury up to death of myself or others. I no longer feel safe operating this vehicle. Given the volume of oil leaking from the undercarriage of the vehicle, the vehicle is at an elevated risk for engine seizure from lack of lubrication. This could result in the engine stalling causing an accident or serious bodily injury up to death of myself or others. I no longer feel safe operating this vehicle. The vehicle has been repaired three separate times by the dealership, no warning lights ever appeared.

The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

This has now happened multiple times. The first time this happened, I was driving on the freeway and my car had started flashing lights telling me my electrical charging system was faulty. When this flashed, my "d" (for drive) on my dashboard started blinking and the car lost power. I was in the fast lane with no shoulder and had to pull 5 lanes over, nearly hitting an unquantifiable amount of cars. When the car reached roughly 15-10 miles per hour as I was merging, it put itself into park and would not let me shift back into gear. At this point I was still in the number 2 lane and had cars swerve around me. I tried turning on the car multiple times and finally after the fifth or sixth time, it turned on and drove to the shoulder. The dealership was unable to replicate the issue but had heard of the problem before. They said that they would try to diagnose the issue but they could not. The other times that it had happened, I had a very similar experience. Some situations safer than others. When I took it in again, they were unable to fix it. I've now given up because Jeep is unable to fix the issue.

As I was driving home at around 45 mph, I noticed a flashing light on the dashboard. The light was instructing me to switch to 'p' to start. Additionally, there was a light indicating a plug-in, and the 'd' was flashing. I wasn't sure what was happening, but I knew something was wrong. Gradually, the acceleration slowed down, and I started to feel uneasy. I quickly pulled over to the side of the road. Luckily, the car behind me wasn't speeding, and they were able to slow down and give me space. I put the car in park, turned it off, and then turned it on again. After doing so, I waited for a few seconds, hoping that the problem would be resolved. To my relief, the flashing lights disappeared, and the car started normally. I checked the dashboard again, and everything seemed to be in order. I resumed driving but couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. Now, driving on the highway in orlando worries me.

I was driving about 35 mph on a residential street on 10/24/23 at approximately 18:30 listening to a podcast steaming from my phone. The Jeep was in bev mode and the ice motor was not activated for my entire drive home. A warning chime sounded and I looked at the center display and it said, "depress brake and shift out of p to drive. " I was already driving and the transmission indicator read d3 (drive, third gear). Power was lost and the vehicle would not accelerate. I started to slow down so I attempted to pull over and put the vehicle into neutral. The transmission would not shift into neutral. Then, as I slowed towards a curb, the car abruptly stopped without warning causing the car behind me to swerve out of the way or it would have rear ended me. The brake lights did not illuminate when I was forced to stop. The center display showed "depress brake and shift out of p to drive. " I shifted the transmission into p then d and it drove fine the rest of the way home, about 2. 5 miles. This is the first time I've ever encountered this.
