Experienced the notorious "death wobble" again today. This has happened plenty of times to me, but today it was the most severe and worrisome. The vehicle shakes and rattles so much that I expect pieces to fall off. Other cars pull up to me on the highway off ramp (where it often happens on our bumpy massachusetts roads) and ask if everything is okay. I'm not sure if I would buy this Jeep again. They really need to fix this. Articles online seem to suggest that it is the stock track bar, and if so, why won't Chrysler just replace them?.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 35 mph the vehicle complete shut down. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer could not diagnose the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and they stated there not sure of the failure of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 21,081 and the current mileage was 27,000. Jp.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

On a rocky road at rauch creek offroad park in tremont, PA. I was stopped waiting for my friend to give me directions. He noticed what he first thought was steam coming from under the hood. In fact it was smoke. Within one minute flames were coming from under the hood. Within two minutes the entire vehicle was engulfed. I injured myself in my haste to get out of the burning vehicle. The vehicle was a total loss. I have photo's and videos available of the incident.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

Purchased a 2012 Jeep Wrangler sport on 3/3/12 at roughly 2pm cst. At about 4pm cst, I parked the Jeep in my apartment's parking garage. I decided at about 6pm cst to go get some dinner, and to cruise around as well in the new vehicle. I observed smoke coming from the parking garage, and when I got into the garage, I observed my new Jeep on fire. The entire front end of the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Both front tires exploded as a result of the fire, and the entire front end was completely damaged. The interior is destroyed; basically totaled out. Vehicle was purchased with 11 miles on the odometer, and ended with about 17 total.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

I was pulling out of a driveway and the the gas peddle went all the way to the floor. I tried to brake and the vehicle took off to approx. 45 miles per hour while I was stepping on the brake, it continued to accelerate for approx. 15 seconds. The car eventually started to fishtail after I put it in neutral and stopped in the middle of the highway. I looked to see if anything was stuck on the gas peddle and there was not. I turned the car off and had to tap on the gas peddle to get it to come up from the floor. The car was towed to the dealership and they did not find anything wrong with it. I am very frightened of driving it again in case this happens once more. Please let me know if you have heard of anything like this happening to anyone else.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

The 2010 Jeep Wrangler unlimited was parked and running when all of a sudden it turned off. I attempted to start, and heard my sister yelling get the car is on fire. Once out of the Jeep I looked under it and saw an unknown liquid burning down to the ground from the engine area. I attempted to extinguish the fire with water but I was unsuccessful. Within minutes it was a total loss. I have real good video of the incident from beginning to end, due to the fact that my sister was videotaping a historic post office at the time turned around and was able to catch the incident as it occurred.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

I have heard rumors about massive front-end shimmy happening on '07 and newer Jeep Wranglers, but never had any trouble. Starting last week the slightest road irregularity causes the front wheels of my Jeep to shimmy back and forth violently, with lack of directional control. Inspection could find no defects visual to the eye, but I have had to quit driving my Jeep. This vehicle and others that may be showing this same problem will lead to fatalities. . . . . . I am a professional motor vehicle repairman and have never seen this severe shimmy before.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

Received a recall letter l35 emissions. Called to get the repairs and was told I would need to ship the Jeep to another island as Chrysler has no repair service on molokai. The companies should have to make arrangements with a repair service on this island. Would cost over $500 to ship to oahu as they suggested.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

Water standing in front pass. Floor. Took to dealer still leaking. Going to take it back 4 more times then. . . Its lemon law time.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

Frame and supports rusted to the point of offering no structural integrety of undercarriage. Frame on driverside at skid plate rusted allowing the skid plate to fall. Observed severe rust-through of frame along frame where skid plate had been bolted. Also transmission support failed. Have previously replaced failed brake lines which rusted through. I have parked the vehicle as it is unsafe. I think I realized it too late, however soon enough to have prevented a major accident. Warnings need to be issued immediately of these and other defects which have been noted by Jeep owners, especially for potential buyers. The frame apparently rust from inside out leaving little indication of severity.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

Water filling up on the inside front floorboards when it rains; coming in from firewall; possible fire hazard.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

Shifting the 4-wheel drive transfer case (tc) from 2hi to 4hi or 4low (or in reverse order) can cause the transfer case shifting cable (tcsc) (mopar part 52060462ag) to fail and become disconnected from either the tc or the shift lever in the cab (or both). The part’s plastic components are inherently too weak to withstand normal use. Safety risks which can arise upon component failure, if the vehicle owner and their family (children) are at a location and/or terrain where the vehicle is designed/marketed for travel (whether by recreation or necessity), and the location/terrain (I) subject to inclement weather (e. G. Snow, ice, flooding, extreme heat); or (ii) on an extreme incline which is unsafe to negotiate without 4wd; or (iii) any circumstance which requires 4wd to navigate to a safe location; or (iv) the tcsc fails when the tc becomes stuck in the neutral position while shifting, and is unable to escape impending harm (flash flood) . . . There is obvious risk to life/safety. The owner has a right to rely on the components and reasonable safety performance for which the product is designed/marketed. Jeep is aware of the issue, and the manual fails to cite this as a possible catastrophic event, leaving the unsuspecting owner at a loss in an emergency situation. It is not reasonable for this component to fail within a few thousand miles as reported by Jeep owners. . Read more...

Unknown Or Other problem #13

Driving on i10 west bound from phoenix to California when there was a loud explosion under the feet on the drivers side. Pulled over to see what it was and saw flames. Tried to put out with a fire extinguisher without success. Tried a second extinguisher with the same results. Got 90% of my stuff out of the vehicle. It was lifted, with skip plates, winch. Total loss. No warning lights, sounds or any indication that something was wrong.

Unknown Or Other problem #14

I have been a proud owner of my Jeep since 2004 until towards the end of last year when I began to experience problems with a violent shaking when I was driving at 55mph and would hit a bump. I took it to my mechanic a few times but they couldn't find anything wrong with it. They checked my tires, the brakes, etc. It happened again and again so my mechanic thought it possible needed to be aligned so I tried that. That didn't help either. Then the tires became a topic of discussion so I bought new tires and still the problem occurred. I recently took it in and had the gear box tightened and the tires rotated and again, no fixing the problem. My Jeeps shakes so violently and gets me so scared because it feels like the Jeeps tires are going to fall off the Jeep and cause a major accident and injuries. I searched the internet looking to see if anyone else has ever had this problem and sure enough, I'm not alone. I have a young son and I use my Jeep as our transportation and my son is getting ready to get his license and it's sad, but I won't let him drive our Jeep because of this problem. Chrsler needs to become aware of this problem and something should be done for us Jeep owners who are being affected by this problem. If I would have known of this problem, I would have never bought a Jeep. I can't afford to keep spending all this money to try and figure out what to get repaired nor can I afford a new car. Chrsler needs to step up to the plate and fix these Jeeps!.

Unknown Or Other problem #15

My 2004 Wrangler rubicon has a violent wobble/shake at 55-60 mph. The wobble is so violent I have to immediately brake and it stops around 40. I have had it aligned and balanced. I was considering pouring more into the repair but after reading all of the complaints I fell it is not worth the effort. The Jeep is stock and I am the original owner. I am going to approach the dealer but since it is out of warranty I have the feeling it is going to be in vain.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

Roof keeps leaking everytime it rains brought it back to the dealership 6 times still havent fixed it and they just made it worse my floor has gotten soaked the radio the seats the roll cage padding everyyhing vehicle was nice now its junk at 4500 miles.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

This vehicle has auto stick shifting with an automatic transmission. For upshifts movement all the way to the right, hitting the end of travel is required the make a shift up in gear selection. On down shifts, just touching the shift handle and barely applying pressure activates a downshift. No movement of the shift handle is required. This way to sensitive.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

On 9-2-211 was driving home and smelt something burning. Pulled over and noticed smoke coming from under the hood. Upon opening hood quickly realized it was on fire. In less than 10 minutes the entire Jeep was in flames causing total destruction of vehicle. I bought this vehicle brand new and it had never been wrecked or in the shop for eeed repairs.

Unknown Or Other problem #19

When driving at 50 mph or above ( highway speeds) and hit a bump the whole vechile will shake so vioently that you think you are literally going to die. If you step on the brakes, it only gets worse. On the outside the tires wobble in out out, looking as though both axles just broke off. I have had mine in and out of the shop over 10 times and has been out of service for over 2 months. I wil get it back from the shop and within a week of having it back the death wobble ( shaking of vechile) is back and only gets worse. I have taken my Jeep to a different dealership then I bought it and they found that the liftkit that was already installed on my Jeep before I bought it brand new had missing parts and they used a lug nut for a nut on it. They don't know what is causing it. They are just throwing parts at it.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

My Jeep has a death wobble that has not been resolved. I have paid hundreds of dollars and still no solution. Please help!!!.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

This hardtop vehicle is experiencing significant water leakage so much so that when it rains, the entire front passenger carpet gets soaked and the water flows to the back passenger seat carpet seat as well. My concern is not only potential electrical outages/failure but also, mold and mildew. Certainly not something a consumer would expect for a new vehicle with less than 500 miles!.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

Airbag is disabled intermittently most frequently after straightening the steering wheel following a turn.

Unknown Or Other problem #23

2008 rhd Jeep Wrangler air bag light is on meaning airbag will not deploy if an accident occurs. Clock spring/corrosion issue causing horn not to work which is a safety hazard. Many mail carriers are having the exact same problems with these vehicles. Vehicle will not always start. This whole vehicle should be recalled as it has major electrical issues. The motor went out on mine at 52,000 miles. The warranty is only for 36,000 miles. The motor was rebuilt by a Jeep dealer and I was told it had a spun bearing. The air blower controller also does not work half of the time. These rhd Jeeps are all lemons and pose safety hazards to mail carriers who spend most of their day out on the road. The horn issue is a threat to the public as you cannot warn an unsuspecting driver or pedestrian of your precese. The airbag issue is a threat to the driver. You spend $25,000 on a vehicle, you expect better.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

Our daughter's 2010 Jeep Wrangler caught on fire just as she had parked it in her underground parking garage. She was sitting in the car, listening to the end of a song, when smoke started pouring out of the hood of the car. Then is burst into flames. She jumped out and ran out of the garage and then called the fire department and us. She had only owned the car for a little over three months and bought it from hampton imports near destin, florida. State farm investigated, as well as the fire department. Neither could find a cause. I called Chrysler, because I had read that china was no longer allowing the Wrangler in their country due to fire concerns. They did investigate and found no cause. I wrote a follow-up letter to the Chrysler director of customer relations, asking if they were investigating the safety of all of their Jeep Wranglers and they never replied to the letter.

Unknown Or Other problem #25

Driving home on the highway at about 60-65 mph around a small bend I hit an uneven part in the road the front end starting shaking violently out of control I almost could not hold the wheel. I slammed on the breaks and the shaking didn't stop until I can to a complete stop. This was also in a lot of traffic. Another mile down the road the same thing happened again. I thought I was going to lose control and crash into the wall. The entire front end was bouncing up and down the wheel vibrating so much it was hard to hold onto. Again with people driving home in rush hour I had to slam on the break in the middle of the road come to a complete stop before this violent shaking would stop. Again I thought I was going to crash.

Unknown Or Other problem #26

2007 Jeep Wrangler/ less than 18 k miles: hit minor bump at approx 40 miles/ hr, front end began violent wobbling and I could not stop the wobble until I finally came to a stop. I was very fortunate that this situation did not result into an accident. This was the 1st time this happened to me, just purchased 2 months ago. Nothing has been done to fix problem. Did research and I am convinced that this is a manufacturer defect. I have been driving for 45 years and have never experienced anything like this; ever.

Unknown Or Other problem #27

My 2007 Jeep was in the shop for various repairs, however this one took the cake! I arrived home from work (6milesaway) when I noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. I found it was overheating, no indicator light to warn me, temperature gauge was at normal but the smell of anti-freeze was present. Towed it to the dealer and found the heater hose assembly, to be melted through from the "bad" design, of having it too close to the engine. Also it appeared to have two slices in the hoses , where the clamps were too close to the bend in the hoses. It cost me over $100. 00 to have it fixed.

Unknown Or Other problem #28

Frame rusted out and transmission was hanging under vehicle. Further inspection and the frame is rotted at rear suspension mounts. Checking on Wrangler forums and many people are having the same frame issues. I'd hate to see what would happen when one of the rear frame pieces lets go while someone is going down the highway.

Unknown Or Other problem #29

We own a 2006 Jeep Wrangler x with around 60,000 miles on it. It started a terrible wobble in the front end that is called "death wobble" I have done multiple repairs and replacements of parts to no avail. I called the local Chrysler dealership for advice their answer was to replace the steering stabilizer. I stated that this had already been done their response was " I dont know what to tell you then. " this problem occurs at 50 miles per hour and when it begins the vehicle must come to complete stop to end the wobble. The Jeep has been in the shop multiple times for this problem and no fix has been found. I have rotated the tires twice and that works for about a week and the problem returns. The tires have been rebalanced twice also. I have replaced all the shocks, the steering stabilizer, and it has been realligned two times. This is a major problem for many people as can be seen if "death wobble" is searched on google. There is no known repair for this problem and Chrysler continues to ignore it.

Failure to shift automatic transmission into 1st, 3rd, and 4th gears. Only stays in 2nd gear or reverse. Was told by a dealer that the pcm was causing the malfunction. Replaced the pcm and the tcm also blew out. There are only 48000 miles on this vehicle and is taken care of well. There shouldn't be all the computers going out all at once. No one seems to be able to assist from Chrysler. Unfortunate, since this is my third Wrangler and I haven't ever had this many issues with any vehicle ever. Was a die-hard fan and stood by Jeep products. Now I will make sure everyone knows not to purcahse these faulty vehicles. Hopefully after $1050 in repairs this resolves the electrical issues. . . . But somehow won't count on it!!! booooo to Jeep! you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Unknown Or Other problem #32

Have a Jeep 2004 Wrangler. At 60 mph. It begins to wobble very badly! have purchased new tires, balancing, front stabilizing bar,new brakes & rotors, alignment. Still wobbles! many other Jeep owners are having same problem & Jeep dealers cannot come up with a solution to stop this! it happens everytime I hit 60mph! very scary!!!!! almost flipped me off the road coming down the mountains!.

Unknown Or Other problem #33

On 6/17/2011 we had our 2010 Jeep Wrangler unlimited rubicon on an off-road trail in 2wd. The trail can be described as mild terrain not requiring 4wd for any part of the trail. Approximately 2 miles in we heard a loud noise, stopped the vehicle and discovered that the front axle housing was cracked. Chrysler's roadside assistance would not recover teh vehicle from the trail so we got it to a maintained road. Several days later we had the vehicle towed to our Jeep dealer for inspection. Warranty work was denied on the broken axle housing due to Chrysler's determination that we teh failure occurred due to extreme off-roading. Verbally we were also told that we were not using the vehicle for its intended purpose. We submitted photos and narratives of similiar incidents (front axle housing breaks during during mild off-road driving, and one instance of hitting a curb with the tires). These were regarded as incidents of extreme off-roading as well. Since the breakage occurred after several miles of travel on maintained highway, and then approximately 15 miles on mild off-road trails that did not require 4wd we will replace the entire axle with an aftermarket product that is similiar in cost. Our concern is that as we research online we are finding similiar incidents under similiar conditions - front axle housing breaks in the same location when the vehicle is under only slghtly higher than normal driving conditions on 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler jk unlimited rubicons. Rubicons have an upgraded suspension system for off-road use comapred to other models and feature a "trail rated" badge on the vehicle, but light off-road use caused failure in our vehicle.

Unknown Or Other problem #34

When fueling the vehicle it overflows. The fuel always overflows before it triggers the pump to stop fueling.

Unknown Or Other problem #35

Driving westbound on m-59 in hartland, mi I hit a very small bump in the road and the Jeep started to shudder very violently. I had to pull over to the side of the road and stop in order for the shudder to go away. After doing much research on the internet, I have now found out that this is called the death wobble and is a highly common problem that Chrysler is aware of and has not done anything to let the public know of the issue.

Unknown Or Other problem #36

I bought a 2005 se sport Jeep Wrangler about two years ago. In the past few months I have noticed vibrations increasing in the steering wheel and just in the past month the shakings have become extremely violent between 52-60 mph, causing me to have to pull over and stop on the interstate. I took it to the shop and have had the brake pad replaced, new shocks, new alignment, tires rotated, tires balanced, rotors replaced and the entire front end checked. The shaking is still present and I cannot afford to keep replacing one thing at a time when nothing seems to help. The violent shaking is occurring consistently every time I reach 52 mph now and I am scared to drive it on the interstate or have my family drive it. I don't know what to do, where to go or who to talk to to help me get this fixed without costing me my entire months salary or more. My tires also appear to be wearing wrong due to the shaking, which will cost me more money to replace. I have done research on this "death wobble" and am finding that it is very common. We need someone to help us so no one gets seriously injured and so we aren't paying out of pocket for a technical error.

Unknown Or Other problem #37

Drivers side air bag light comes on intermitetly. Dealer says it is the clockspring and is not covered by warranty. I have heard of other people with this same series of Jeep (2007-2011wrangler) . And having the same problem. As this is a very inmportant saftey feature in current automoblies I would expect there would be some investigation into multiple failures.

Unknown Or Other problem #38

I was driving on interstate 70 at approximately 65mph, I hit a bump, and my Jeep started to shake and vibrate so dramatically that I had to slow down to about 35mph before it would stop. I was so frightened that I pulled over and was afraid to continue driving. Thinking it was my tires about ready to fall off, I creeped off of the interstate and drove about 15mph back to the tire dealership where I had bought my tires. They could find nothing wrong. I then took it to the Jeep dealership and they replaced the steering dampner and updated a bracket. It did not fix the problem. I took it back to the dealership where they then replaced the drag link end. They then told me it had to be the tires. They, not one time, mentioned what I have now researched and found to be a "death wobble" problem that many Jeep owners have experienced. I don't know what to do next. The problem has not been fixed and my tires only have 15k miles on them and I am thinking this is not the problem. The wobble that I have experienced now dozens of times is not only frightening but I fear is very dangerous. I'm not sure what my recourse is at this point.

Unknown Or Other problem #39

When turning on Jeep the starter keeps going, have to turn off key and restart to get it to quit. Seems like the starter locks?.

Unknown Or Other problem #40

I have a 2007 Jeep compass and today my husband notice a little bit of rattling in the front end. When we rev up the engine it fades the rattling out. Haven't had the chance to take it to a mechanic just yet, but reading some of the responses it seems to be a common problem (and possibly costly one) to fix which does not make me happy. Vehicle currently has about 83,000 miles on it.

Unknown Or Other problem #41

Severe vibration in front end of unmodified 2008 Jeep Wrangler x when hitting a bump on highway. Forced to slam on breaks on highway to stop violent shaking and regain control of vehicle. It started a couple months ago and happens any time I hit a big bump. It happened 3 times yesterday. I googled this and it appears this is a rather common complaint - one that seems to be particularly common in the newer style Jeeps at around 20,000-30,000 miles even when no modifications have been made. This is very dangerous and if its this common, Chrysler should be forced to address this!.

Unknown Or Other problem #42

My 2007 Jeep wranger unlimited x 4x4, which is all stock and was purchased new, has developed the appropriately named "death wobble" which consists of violent shaking of the front end and steering wheel when hitting even a minor bump or depression in the road at speeds in excess of 45 mph. The shaking is so severe that one believes you feel as though you are about to die due to loss of control of the vehicle. The only way to stop the shaking is to come to an abrupt stop. Inattentive drivers may not be aware of what is happening and this may cause an accident as the Jeep driver is forced to brake. My warranty has expired and when I contacted the Jeep dealership, they acted as though they had never heard of this. I took it to an independent mechanic who stated this was a rather common occurance and that it would cost about $1700 to fix with replacing u-joints, and adding a stablizer bar. From on-line testimonials, I am learning that this is simply a bandaid fix and that the ball joints and steering dampener need to be replaced for a true fix. I cannot believe that with as many problems as have been reported that Chrysler-Jeep has not issued a recall. I have parked my Jeep for now while deciding what to do. My conscious will not allow me to trade it or sell it with the defect that I am aware of. I guess Chrysler-Jeep does not share my values. Why hasn 't there been any litigation over this issue? where are all the lawyers when you need them??.

Unknown Or Other problem #43

The paint on the door hinges on my 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara began showing signs of rust. Presented vehicle to local dealer, and Chrysler agreed to repaint the hinges under warranty. Within one week, paint on hinges began bubbling. Chrysler again agreed to repaint hinges under warranty. In talking with body shop, the issue is that the hinges are an alluminum alloy, and, with the steel hinge pin and the steel door, galvanic corrosion has occurred, and will continue to occur. Sounds to be a fundamental design flaw (fundamental metallurgy). Hinges have been repainted a second time, with indications that the paint is beginning to bubble. Body shop has advised that the problem will continue until hinges are replaced with a similar metal or stainless steel. Advised by body shop that they have done the same repair on approximately 6 other Jeep Wranglers with the same issue. After a sort internet search, it appears as though this is a common issue that Chrysler has not addressed appropriately.

Unknown Or Other problem #44

2005 Jeep Wrangler gas tank spills gas out of the fill line onto the groung at every fillup, even when filling slowly. As I read on the Jeep Wrangler forums this is a very common problem.

Unknown Or Other problem #45

2007 Jeep wrangle sahara four door four wheel drive six speed standard . While driving vehicle at 60mph while hitting a minor bump in roadway sends vehicle into a vigorous shaking. This is not a minor shaking it sends vehicle into a very rapid side to side pulling motions. I was barley able to pull off the highway safely with my two year old and 6 months old daughters in the Jeep during the incident. The Jeep is 100% stock no after market parts and I am the original owner.

Unknown Or Other problem #46

We were driving on a limited access highway when I hit a section of rough a rough road about 6 feet long. The front end, steering wheel & transmission shook violently! once I got below 45 mph it stopped. I could not steer the vehicle. This has happened 6 times now at speeds as low as 50 mph. It would happen a lot more if I did not slow down when I come across patched spots in the road or where overpasses and bridges meet the solid road bed. On smooth roads, there is no vibration that I can feel. I talked to the previous owner and he never had a problem. It has never been off road, lifted or wrecked. The garage replaced the steering gear box under warranty and I paid for the alignment check and tire balance. I rotated the tired and then put a new tire on the right front. I checked for play in all the suspension and steering and found very little. The garage said they found none. I then installed a heavy duty steering stabilizer. It did not help. The garage said there was nothing more they could do. When I asked Jeep was their a problem called death wobble, because there are a lot of postings, they did not answer. Instead, the service manager suggested I buy 4 new tires and get a road force balance. A friend sent me to another Jeep dealer to talk to his friend, who was well aware of the problem and had not been able to fix it on other Jeeps. There was no remedy or help from Chrysler Jeep. He has had it happen to him and will not ride in or drive one again. He suggested not driving interstates and below 55 mph on the highway. I am 68 year old retired car, truck, heavy equipment and industrial mechanic supervisor. The Jeep is unsafe to drive on the highway. Bf.

Unknown Or Other problem #47

Cruise control stopped working. I got a new clock spring from a local 4x4 shop that ordered it through the local dealer. I had the 4x4 shop install the clock spring for me because my local Jeep dealer is not a trustworthy dealer in my opinion. Total for the repair was nearly 500 dollars.

Unknown Or Other problem #48

My Jeep is experiencing what Jeep owners refer to as the death wobble. Violent, intense shaking of the front end after hitting the smallest of bumps. Must slow down immediately to gain control of vehicle.

Unknown Or Other problem #49

Was driving at freeway speed on CA hwy 24 and hit minor bump due to change in road type and vehicle front end began to shimmy as if I had blown a tire. I moved to far right lane and began to pull off to the side of the road. Once my speed dropped below 40 mph shimmy stopped suddenly. I took vehicle to dealer and was told there's a service advisory about this and they would likely replace steering dampener. They did. Problem has reoccurred a year later at 28k miles, and Jeep dealer says my front end appears fine as do my tires and alignment. They escalated to Jeep corporate, who said replied that I should buy new tires, even though my tires appear fine, and that this is to be expected on a single axle vehicle. I have researched this issue, and find this is a common issue known as 'death wobble', and that is previously occurred mostly in Jeeps with a modified suspension or lift kit. Based on the amount of NHTSA complaints on file, it appears that this is now a known issue since the 2007 suspension redesign and addition of the 4dr Wrangler to the line up. Jeep completely redesigned the suspension on the Wrangler in 2011, and those of us with 2007 to 2010 model year Jeeps are left driving unsafe vehicles. This was marketed to me as a family car at the time of purchase, and Jeep did not disclose that death wobble was likely to occur in a single axle vehicle and would require replacement of front end parts that show no wear beyond the normal use. This is unacceptable, since I use this vehicle to transport my family, and Jeep seems to think this is a known enough problem to expect me to pay for repairs related to poor unsafe design by them. This needs to be recalled. . Read more...

On January 10, 2011 doused with gas spilling while filling tank. Had to throw away all clothes. Every time gas tank is filled it spews out. I am in attendance of pump at all times. Chrysler hot line contacted and refuses to address the problem. They want me to pay deductible. Ongoing problem for approximately past 1. 5 years of owning 2007 Jeep Wrangler sahara 4 door. I am no longer driving until problem corrected. In additional hard tops have leaked since day one of owning. Several ro's (repair orders) on this problem.

I purchased a used 2004 Jeep Wrangler 5 months ago. It had only 15k miles on it. Shortly after purchase it began shaking violently between the speeds of 55-60, and when there are road imperfections. I had the tires balanced. No fix. The shop kept the Jeep for three days last week and cannot locate the source of the problem. Appears this is a "death wobble" issue from the strongly-documented cases in Jeep Wranglers. There appears to be no permanent fix. There have been no recalls that I can find. I owe for this vehicle that I cannot even drive!.

Unknown Or Other problem #52

When driving on the highway between 50 and 65 mph and hitting a slight bump or divet in the the road Jeep Wrangler jk begins to violently shake uncontrollably until I am forced to pull over onto the shoulder and bring it under 30mph. It happens at least once every other day, but occurred four times today alone. At the present time I have had it to three different mechanics where the alignment has been checked four times, the tires have been rotated and rotated back, a new steering stabilizer has been installed along with a new bushing, new track bar and new ball joint.

Since early 2011, the gas tank of my Jeep Wrangler overflows when being filled with gas resulting in significant amounts of gas being spilled into the environment. I have reported this to Jeep in June. They have not yet fixed the problem.

2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. 85,000 miles. Jeep will not start the majority of time. Jeep will click, and not start. Battery, battery cables, and starter not the issue. Dealership performed a reconfiguration on the tipm for $80, but issue not resolved. It appears that a neutral start will increase chances of the vehicle starting, but not always. Wiggling the shifter in park, or moving it into "neutral" prior to starting increases the success ratio. Vehicle will always start the first time each day, but after that, you're stuck trying to turn the ignition and getting past the clicking.

Fuels sprays out of the fill point when filling at a gas station. I have had it spray into the air and into my mouth and close to my eyes. I have the nozzle in the hole and on auto stop and when it is full, the pump stops the fueling after the fuel come squirting out. This is a known problem and I am sick and dang tired of getting fuel all over my hands, face and clothing!.

Unknown Or Other problem #56

I would explain this as a term that is used in the "Jeep community" as a "death wobble". Basically what happened is I was exiting an interstate off ramp for another interstate. I slowed to about 40-45 mph. When I started to follow the bend to the right I crossed over a "seam" in the road connecting sections of the pavement. It was at this moment that my Jeep jk began to shake violently. The shaking was located at the front of the Jeep. I applied the brakes and slowed down to about 10 mph (luckily no one was behind me) and the shaking went away. At the time of the incident it was such a violent shaking that I thought the steering wheel was going to come out of my hands and I thought the front end of my Jeep was going to "explode". If the ntsb would search the web for "death wobble" you would locate videos on youtube that show exactly what occurred to me.

Fuel spit back issue! I recently just bought this Jeep from a local dealer that first night while leaving the dealership I went to fill up my tank. The dealership doesn't fill up your tank if you buy a used car. While standing and waiting for the pump nozzle to stop I did what I usually do and waited by the fuel nozzle. After the fuel nozzle clicked letting me know that the tank was full and upon taking out the fuel pump nozzle I noticed that about 3/4 of a quart of gas poured out all over my shoes. At first I didn't mind this but after a few times of refueling to full this happens every time! it seems as if there is pressure in the tank that builds up and is not released during filling. Each and every time I put gas in and pump until full also it doesn't matter if the fuel pump is on high pressure or low pressure. Gas pours out!.

My Jeep has a six speed manual transmission and it pops out of 2nd and 4th gear into neutral since purchased Nov. 06, 2010. I called Jeep and they said that it must pop out when they drive it. I am setting up an appointment. But this is a safety issue because I will be eventually rear ended. Why isn't this on a recall?.

Unknown Or Other problem #59

Jeep front end begins to voilently shaking causing loss of control when crossing highway seams, small bumps, etc especially when tires hit them one tire at a time. Jeep must be stopped to correct shaking. No modifications completely stock. Dealer claims everything is good with vehicle and in proper working order. Has happened multiple times over and over.

This is a recurring problem that I face when I fill the vehicle up at any gas station. While filling the vehicle with gas, the auto stop clicks, and immediately the tank starts spilling gas. The gas spills out and runs down the side of the vehicle and onto the ground creating a puddle. This problem isn't attributable to trying to "top off" the tank because the by the first time the auto stop clicks, the vehicle is already pouring out gasoline. I have spoken to many other owners regarding this problem and they have said the same thing. I have investigated through NHTSA, and they have an ongoing investigation into this matter (action number : pe10032).

The contact owns a 1999 Jeep Wrangler. While traveling 50 mph, the contact noticed when driving over a bump, all warning lights would appear on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in recall 99v117000 (unknown or other). The current and failure mileages were approximately 128,000. Updated 12/30/10. The consumer also stated the air bag light illuminated. Updated 01/04/11.

E s p a deadly idea that is being forced upon us. May of 2010 I purchased a Jeep Wrangler unlimited. First weekend of September I had e s p failure. Took it to Jeep the following wed. They attempted to return it to me unable to duplicate, no parts replaced. The problem did not "go away ". E s p failures have been happening since 2007. A safety device to save you in a crash should not cause the crash. Only about 12,300 miles on the vehicle. Factory stock. No mods. Jeep buying back the vehicle will not protect me or my loved ones. The others will still be out there on the road. Forced legislation of this will actually create other problems in addition to the failures. Various "hack jobs" will be performed in order to remedy the problem but will actually cause more problems. I already have to Dodge weaving drivers for other reasons. Drunks are at least attempting to drive. Has no one any common sense anymore? if I wanted to be driven I would hire a chauffeur. Remember the auto seat belts that threw people out of their cars and caused them to be killed or paralyzed. ( I personally know someone that this happened to). How about the air bags decapitating children? that really saved lives there. Let us not forget the recent prius failures.

Unknown Or Other problem #64

2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 safari with esp (electronic stability program). Esp intermittently turns on by itself and can't be turned off. It will eventually turn itself off. Dealer tells me it's caused by a defective clock spring in the steering column, which also controls the steering wheel air bag, cruise control and the horn! I feel this is a safety concern, if any of these devices quit working, because of a defective clock spring!!!!.

Unknown Or Other problem #65

While filling up the Jeep, at about 3/4 of a tank of gas the gas comes blowing back out of the filler tube. Gas splatters all over you, down the side of the Jeep and on the ground. This just started at about 35000 miles. It's hard to put gas in, always worrying if your going to sprayed with gas.

Unknown Or Other problem #66

I purchased a new 2008 Jeep Wrangler on October 31, 2008 from west-herr chysler Jeep. I was driving to work on the morning of 6/16/2010, when all of a sudden my tire pressure monitoring system (tpms) light came on just moments before I was to enter highway 219. (I was passing through the town of orchard park on highway 20a. I thought it strange but knew it was very sensitive to even a slight change in pressure. ) I proceeded to enter the 219, increasing speed to 60 mph, when I suddenly realized I had lost all pressure in my right rear tire. I managed to safely exit the highway and to call my husband to change the tire. While doing so, he noticed the entire valve stem was missing. There was just a hole where it had been. He assumed that the nut that holds the tpms had worked its way loose and that it was inside the tire. He took the tire to west-herr Chrysler Jeep and they reinserted the tpms and replaced the mounting nut. About a year later, the same thing happened again - instant deflation - while I was driving on I-190 (about 50 miles/hour), only this time it was my left rear tire. Again, I managed to exit safely and to again call my husband. This time he couldn't get the tire off the hub so we called aaa. While waiting for them, a fellow Jeep owner stopped to render assistance and he pointed out that the nut hold the tpms on the left front tire was corroded and needed to be replaced also. (my husband who has a ph. D. In chemistry from indiana u. Noticed that most of the valve stem is aluminum and it is in contact with the steel wheel. He postulated that the two unlike metals acted as a cell and with the salt that is used on the roads here that led to very rapid corrosion. ) the same problem happened again Monday, 7/9/12, with my right front tire while I was going 40 mph. How can a vehicle be marketed with such an obviously dangerous design flaw?.

1. Top intermittently leaks on/near the passenger door, and when there is snow the top acts like a sponge and saturates leaking water everywhere inside the Jeep. I have driven and been in soft tops most of my life and I have never seen a soft top saturate that badly that it soaks the inside of the Jeep. Originally the top leaked terrible anytime it rained along the top of the windshield and passenger side, 4 times I called to complain 3 times they told me it was my fault for putting the top on wrong in winter the 4th time they acted surprised and said OH btw there is a service bulletin 2. The engine makes a terrible high pitch whistle/siren noise from the engine intermittently. It last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. I have this on video 2 times and dan’s Jeep has heard it also along with many coworkers friends and family. 3. The steering wheel makes a terrible noise when cold initially and recently is making the noise in lesser severity even when warmed up. The noise is like dragging a nail across a spring. 4. Twice now my Jeep has had a serious idle/rpm problem I do not know what to call the problem. Saturday the 22nd of October 2011 I started the Jeep, it idled fine. I popped the hood open with a friend to see if we could hear the squealing noise when I gave it gas. When I gave it gas the Jeep dropped in rpm and acted as if it was going to stall out. Experimenting with the amount of gas no matter how far I pressed the gas pedal it continued to sound like it was dying. Friday the 28th of October after driving for well over an hour the Jeep was making the high pitch squealing/whistle/siren noise…. Again and at a stop light I went to give it gas as the light went green and the Jeep dropped in rpm and began to stall out it seemed. About 10 seconds later the Jeep started acting normal and accelerated.

2007 Jeep Wrangler sahara front ends shakes uncontrollably. This is triggered by hitting a bump at highway speeds and cannot be stopped without slowing the vehicle to a near stop. This is more than a "shimmy" and has been appropriately termed the "death wobble". This can cause a fatal crash. It occurs roughly every 5,000 miles after the dealership has replaced various parts involved with steering. I have had the vehicle in for repair 6 or 7 times now. I have replaced steering dampeners and stabalizer bars numerous times. Tires have been rotated and road force balanced.

Driving above 55 miles, going over a bump or rough area will cause the vehicle to shake violently (nick-named "death wobble" by Jeep owners) and becomes very hard to controll. Have to slow down or stop completly in order to get it stop. On the highway where speed limit is 75 miles, it could be deadly. So far we were lucky. . . We had new steering stabelizers, shocks put in, balanced the tires, had wheel alignment but it keeps on happening. Chrysler suggested to take it in to the shop again (and spend more money on a no-fix repair) is not the answer. It is well known that the Jeep vehicles have this whobble issue, they should all be recalled before someone will die. Please help us to get Chrysler corp to admit the problem and recall the vehicles.

When I hit speeds of 50mph, my Jeep wobbles terribly. I have read numerous reviews and complaints that this is not uncommon and it even has a name, the "death wobble". We are going to pass the Jeep onto our 16 yr old daughter, but would like to know if it is going to be recalled or if it is fixable. I would hate anything to happen to our daughter, especially if Jeep is aware of this problem,.

Water is leak through the canvas fabric on my soft top. When ice forms on the outside of the soft top of my 2008 Jeep Wrangler sahara unlimited it forces water through the fabric. Chrysler has told me they can not replicate the problem and were going to close the case. They told me they did not form ice on top of the car to test this situation. There is ice that forms on the interior fabrics and surfaces of the car as a result of water leaking through the soft top. I have documented pictures that I provided to Chrysler and there are large water stains on the interior of the soft top. Leak causes water to drip on driver and passengers as well as cargo during vehicle operation.

On the 6 speed manual transmission the 2009 Jeep Wrangler will violently slip out of 1st gear into neutral when accelerating from a stop. I have had this happen fairly frequently since I purchased the vehicle in 2009. When this does occur it is a very loud noise and the force of the shifter coming out of gear can injure a hand.

I have had this Jeep in to the dealer 5 times now for the same problem. It is only 2 and a half years old. The first time I brought it in was approx 4 months after I bought the truck brand new. They have yet to fix the problem. When you drive approx. 55 mph on a highway, and possibly hit a little bump, the car will shake uncontrolably. You cannot hit the break or it gets worse but sometimes your forced to because you will crash otherwise. The whole front end wobbles to a point where you loose all control of the vehicle. The dealship stated the first time after it happened that they fixed it. . . The other two times they said the same thing . The fourth time they decided to say it was my tires. ( I dont know why they all of a sudden changed the problem). Rotating the tires fixed the problem for about 6 months until I had to bring it in again and they now state they can't find anything wrong with it. But apparantly there is. Very fed up with the whole situation. And very nervous driving the truck.

I have a 2007 Wrangler x with 37k on it, and for the last 2 years my passenger air bag light has illumunated and it has been into the dealership while still under warrenty and the dealership did not fix it or even mention that it existed, a safety issue, not only that but also the cruiz control and horn do not work either. Can you say Chrysler needs to step up to the plate and adjust accordingly with the faulty clockspring deal? this is rediculous and I can not afford 500 bucks to throw into faulty parts and labor to replace the faulty part. Where is Chrysler??? are you listening to your customers? no.

Multiple incidents of violent vibration in the vehicle front end, including the steering wheel and front wheels, are occuring after hitting a minor pot hole in the road. Incidents occur at highways speeds, normally 45 - 55 mph. The driver must reduce speed to near zero in order to recover safe and effective control of the vehicle. This vehicle defect appears to be the well-known and major safety issue in Jeep Wrangler vehicles known as "the death wobble". I purchased this vehicle new from a Jeep dealership and have had it professionally maintained per the manufacturer's instructions since the day I bought it. My spouse and I have both experienced this defect several times in the past few years, most recently on December 15, 2011. At this point, we've had the vehicle inspected several times and replaced a number of components on the vehicle, including the steering damper, four shock absorbers, and all 4 tires. , in addition, the suspension has been inspected numerous times in the past 3 years. Given the shear number of similar complaints by other owners, I feel that this is an obvious manufacturer defect that should be acknowledged and corrected by the manufacturer.

My Jeep Wrangler has had the death wobble, issues with the safety belts not retracting properly [broke my hand] had stalling and suspension problems, I currently have a chip on the bottom underside of the winshield. , when I had the death wobble the dealer told me I had to much weight on the front end from my bumper and winch,[I replaced the stabilizer wobble seems to have went away] they couldn't find a problem with the wobble or seat belts. It was my imagination, what I also had and is documented in the dealer files my accelerator stuck , I was fortunate some one else was driving so I could see his feet and the floor mats nothing was stuck when he stomped on the gas pedal it was just like the cruise control disengaged , my Jeep doesn't have cruise control. The brakes scare me at times, feel like their not there from time to time, I tell who ever drives it not to trust the brakes, this is my last new Chrysler, my hand still hurts. Maybe our goverment should force a recall like they did to Toyota to date my Jeep has only 22. 000 miles on the odometer . Good luck all.

Jk/ gas tank overflows/will not shut off. On more then 1 occasion the gas tank on my 2007 jk Jeep Wrangler has failed to shut off when filling up and spills all over the rear of the Jeep and the ground. 2 Jeep dealers in fairfax, va have told me that I needed a new tank. I have an extended warranty with intercontinental warranty service (iws) and they refuse to authorize the work. I am in the process of canceling the warranty and filing a complaint against them. A of right now I still need a gas tank but cannot find one online, seems only dealers have them right now for 2007-2010 model years. Also the soft top leaks very bad at the top of the door/roof pillars both sides when it rains. Also have had this in to the same 2 Jeep dealers and both say I need a to as it is a design flaw. Both has leak specialists look at it and replace header and door seals but still leaks just as bad. As a life long Jeep owner I am completely fed up with the Jeep brand. A little searching on the internet tells me that these 2 issues are well known but that Jeep is refusing to address them so people like me have to pay more money out of pocket. These 2 issues are clearly safety related, gas spilling out and hitting a hot exhaust is a major problem, the same with water getting into the electrical system.

Driving down the freeway, went across a bridge. The Jeep started the "death wobble". As soon as it went over the 'bump' on the bridge, the whole Jeep started to violently shake, as if the whole thing was falling apart. I had to pull over on the freeway, come to a complete stop. Its under warranty, took it to dealer. They suggested an "after market" steering stabilizer, which I paid for with my own money. The 'death wobble' continues. Dealership telling me there's nothing wrong. Im pursing the matter.

2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited fire. Jeep caught fire while traveling westbound. The fire initially extinguished by a truck driver who stopped to provide assistance with a hand held fire extinguisher. The consumer there was a problem, because the vehicle began to lose power and it began to slow down. The origin of the fire was localized near the passenger side mid-front undercarriage of the vehicle. According to the report, it was unlikely that the cause of the fire was electrical. There was no evidence of a mechanical failure as of the date of the report, and due to the lack of fluid leakage on the highway, visible mechanical damage and the lack of reported noise and smoke from the vehicle prior to the fire. The cause of the fire could not be determined. Updated 11/03/10.

I have experienced on many occasions, something called the "death wobble. " when driving anywhere between 40mph & 65mph, if I hit a pot-hole (especially on a curve), the front-end of my Jeep starts shaking violently to the point where I have to pull over on the side of the highway. In a few instances, I was on a highway that did not have a shoulder and I was in the left lane. This is a very serious and dangerous safety issue. I have read thousands and thousands of complaints from people who also drive Jeep Wranglers, especially those made from 2005-2008. When I originally complained to Jeep/Chrysler, I was under warranty and they insisted I just needed an alignment and new tires. This only masked the problem for a few months until it happened again. By the time I went back to Jeep, I was no longer under warranty and therefore, could not file a complaint under the lemon law. This has given me anxiety to the point where I now have an ulcer from having to drive this vehicle on the highway to work 25 miles each way. Please help, before I or others die from this issue.

I don't know who to contact or what to do, I was the owner of a 2008 Jeep Wrangler I have owned it since 9/11/08 I ordered it brand new from factory through a dealer. Yesterday may 31, 2008 at around 630 pm or so. I was driving to a local state park when my vehicle burst into flames in the engine compartment area, while I was driving about 45mph down a gravel rode. There was a pop and the vehicle lost drive power at the same time the flames shot out from under the drivers side engine compartment. I stopped the vehicle in the middle of the dirt road jumped out and grabbed my cell phone and called 911. No one was injured from it lucky but I am concerned that the vehicle being less then a year out of the factory would do that. I live in missouri valley, IA thanks for your time, scott ortiz.

Fuel overflows when refueling. Overflow occurs even without filling the tank. Parking brake doesn't work unless you pull it up very hard and still doesn't keep it from rolling. Air conditioner doesn't cool. It has been in the service department several times for repair. Blows "smoke" from vents. A loud "knock" sound when you turn the a/c on/off or when you crank the vehicle and the a/c control is on. Soft top leaks over both doors when it rains. Service department has confirmed proper top installation. Sharp edges on the roll bars. Roll bar covers have ripped as a result of putting the top up or down. Dangerous "wobble" when you hit a small pothole, change uneven lanes, etc. Hood lifts approx. 2 inches when a large truck or trailer passes or meets the Jeep. Manual transmission "grinds or catches" when shifting into 2nd gear, worse when cold.

I am driving at 20 mph on a curve on the expressway and out of nowhere the whole entire shakes, rocks, moves uncontrollably to all direction. I can be driving in city limits at 25 mph and it will do all the same things shakes, rocks, moves uncontrollably to all directions. It occurs more than 10 times a month. I took my Jeep Wrangler to the Jeep agency and they told me it was the breaks so I told them ok fix it. They called me to pick up my car that it was ready. So I drive on to get on the expressway as soon as I get to 25mph the car shows the same problem. I went back to the dealership and they refunded my money and they told me that they couldn't figure it out and they suggested that I take it to another dealer that isn't Jeep. I told them that they were the Jeep experts what would other agencies know about Jeep. Then I spoke to daimler and they said to try to replace my tires and I did and the problem was still there. I have all my paper work.

The dash gauges on my 99 Jeep Wrangler ceased to function and I found the NHTSA web site had a recall (no 99v117000) which described my problem. I went to my local Jeep dealer (ancira winton Jeep - hwy 281, sa, TX) and they ran my Jeep Wrangler model on their web site and gave me a printout which stated there was no recall information for my vehicle and they would not repair the problem without approval from Chrysler. I have contacted Chrysler and they have assigned the case no 16611542 for my inquiry. The NHTSA recall documents outline the problem clearly and Chrysler has acknowledged their responsibility to repair the item. My VIN (xp423303) falls within the range of identified vehicles (xp401783-xp432081), but my greater concern is that Chrysler-Jeep does not acknowledge this recall item in their operations. I would appreciate your assistance or referral in resolving this problem - thanks! in advance mike buonaugurio, lt col, usaf.

Vehicle stalls while in gear at speed or under acceleration. When the vehicle stalls the engine loses power and all the warning lights on the dash come on. After 2 to 3 seconds engine regains power and warning lights go off. I was driving my 2006 Jeep Wrangler rubicon (11,000 miles) on the freeway, when it totally lost power. It literally shut down. I was able coast to the center medium. (this had happened just 4 days before also) I was almost in a crash as I tried to coast to a safe place. When I started the car up, the check engine light came on, and I bought the Jeep to a Jeep dealership near by. They put the car on the diagnostic machine, and on the rack to check it, and told me everything came out fine, and they could not find anything wrong. Needless to say it is a very very dangerous car to drive. It is less than one year old and under warranty.

Front end shakes violently after hitting a bump and will not stop shaking until vehicle is brought to a stop. Dealer has attempted to fix it 5 times between August 06 and January 07. Dealer replaced steering dampner in August, 2006. Replaced trac bar in December, 2006. I had independent shop check front end. Found nothing out of spec. At one point dealer claimed that it was caused by tires. New tires fixed problem for a short time. Had tires balanced 4 times in 2009. Replaced stabilizer shock again in August, 2009 and again in December of 2011 with heavy duty one. Problem persists today in January of 2012.

I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler sport, recently I was driving at 45 to 50 mph and the front end started to shake so hard I thought I was going to lose control, when I called Jeep they said bring it in and we will charge you to look at it shop time where I live is around 100. 00 an hour, since the warranty is up they really don't want to do anything for me except charge me to look at it. I am sure they will never admit to it having a problem. I replaced the steering stabilizer and its still doing it. I am not sure where to go from here. Anyone else out there having the same problem? maybe if there is enough complaints they will recall it hopefully before someone gets killed. All I want to do is sell it now and get something not made by Chrysler.

Steering wobbles at speeds 40 to 55mph and is especially worse after hitting a bump. This happens every day and not once in a while. Very scary when you have no control because it shakes so bad. It actually gives you little or no control over the vehicle. Have had tires balanced and rotated the steering damper replaced. Have had it looked at several times and no one really knows what to do about it. It is a life and death situation and feel that nothing will be done about it until someone is actually killed. Looking at blogs there are many people who experienced the same thing known as the death wobble.

I would like to request your help regarding windshield damage that occurred on i395 in virginia. I have attempted to contact the company which owns of the dump truck by phone, email, and regular mail (with delivery confirmation), and have received no response. I also submitted a complaint to fairfax county consumer services division but was told that they only handle complaints regarding the sale or purchase of an item. Below is a copy of the letter I sent to owens & sparrow, whose dump truck caused the damage. I have contacted vdot as well, but would like to request your help in addition to vdots. I feel very strongly that it is their responsibility to reimburse me for the replacement of my windshield. I would greatly appreciate your help with this matter. June 19, 2003 owen & sparrow, llc po box 1595 lorton, va 22199 dear reader: at approximately 12:15 p. M. On Thursday, may 22, 2003, the windshield of my 2002 Jeep Wrangler was struck by rock-like debris that flew out of an owen & sparrow, llc dump truck traveling directly in front of me. This resulted in two chips on the drivers side of my windshield. At that time, I was heading north on i395 and was just south of exit 7 (glebe road). The license plate number of that dump truck was 604-442; however, I was unable to see which state the license plate was from. The dump truck also had a 1-800-827-safe sticker on the back of it with the number pg763. As a result of this damage, I need to have the windshield replaced. Since I know that this damage was directly caused by debris from one of your dump trucks, I would like to request reimbursement of $389. 82. This amount includes the cost of a replacement windshield as well as replacement of two decals on the windshield that also have to be replaced (fairfax county vehicle decal and emission inspection decal).

I feel compelled to contribute, this 2000 is my 3rd Wrangler and I must say most of these complaints sound like trumped up bunk. Especially about shifting from 1st into 2nd and a grinding clutch on an automatic transmission?? the only problem I'll grant is the water in the passenger floorboard and that happened on my '91 as well. So what, it's a Jeep fer pete's sake. And if you've almost had an accident when the gearshift pops out in 1st. . . Stop pulling out in front of oncoming traffic. Problem solved. My gut feeling is that there are a lot of people who don't know how to properly drive a stcik shift and they're driving a Jeep like a sports car. I hate to rag on other Jeep drivers but I've seen them do it. Stop whining please.

I have an 03 Wrangler, yellow that has the paint chipping off in several places. This vehicle has less than 8k miles & is never taken off road. These are all inner city miles. I have been advised by 2 diff dealerships that this is caused from bugs! this same Jeep has also had driveline problems. So much for a heavy duty off road vehicle.

Car has a bucking and poor proformance at highway speeds up long hills, making 60mph impossible. It has been a poor highway performer, but has become "rough-missfiring" very badly 3 times in the car life. First 2 serious failures I got a engine check light, resulting in dealer visits. Now the engine check light was "fixed" it is not there, but the failure mode is. The car exhaust pipe end is quite black, dirty running? the valves and internal engine parts are very dirty and had to be cleaned or replaced when inspected the last 2 times. It happened at 5k, 12k, and now at 37k. The car is now almost 3 years old and I have had it in for other repairs totaling at least 6 times. This is more times than my last 10 year vehicle had. (not Jeep) am I now out of help since it is out of warrantee at 36k? I am getting worried the car will not perform to 100k like this as it may be damaged! what is the extent of my rights now? thanks,, ss.

I have only included the one date I can remember that Jeep was in the repair shop. But, to this date, after Jeep warms up and then is shut off for approx 20 minutes, it hesitates on acceleration. Dealer said couldnt duplicate problem. Oil gauge dropped to zero, then engine knocked & I shut off. Dealer said oil pressure ok, could not duplicate prob. It still drops below 20 sometimes, but not zero again. I have had manifold bolts replaced twice and catalytic converter replaced once. Water leaks on passenger side & drivers seat belt gets caught in door latch.

First off, my airbag light would come on and then the gauges would shut down. I took the Jeep in once, they said they didn't see any problems and couldn't fix it if they didn't see it. Next, I was driving the Jeep, had stopped to get gas, then started to drive and suddenly, the Jeep no longer would move. There was a horrible smell, and I had to have the vehicle towed at 9 p. M, 6 hours from home. The vehicle is still in the shop, and I don't know when they'll be through with it!!.

Beginning in 4-99, we have had numerous things go wrong with our new vehicle. First the "check engine" light came on, ac/heater quit/ manfold/exhaust leak/ now all the gauges have gone crazy on the dash & I just got it out of the shop on 1/17/2000, for the very same thing.

I am in canada, however this information appilies to all Wranglers and your reply by phone would be appreciated. The front seat belt, in its unused, resting state with no passengers, overlaps the dorr striker/ latch mechanism. If you close the door on the vehicle, you slam the seat belt in the mechanism and tear holes in the seat belt. It if the same for both of the front seat belts. I have informed the dealer, who has not yet replaced the seat belts, which are now torn, as they would get torn again the second you closed the door. This is a very very major safety defect, and it is amazing that it has acutally happened. Please look into it. . I wanted to let you know because I think that the dealer will cover it up and people will definetly get hurt from this. I know that I'm in canada, but please call me anyways, collect if you have to. Also, don't give my name to Jeep. . . I don't want them to somehow blacklist me. . . Just go and take a look at any new Wrangler and you'll be surprised. Thanks.

Whenever the fuel tank is filled it leaks down off the top of the tank onto the skid plate. With the muffler next to the gas tank this poses a serious fire hazard. The gauges work intermittently, includes: tach, speedometer, temp, oil pressure, fuel, and amp meter. When they stop working the airbag light comes on. Also the cruise control willn't work. The odometer lights up but no mileage is registered.

Unknown Or Other problem #126

When all the gauges in the vehicle go out while driving, the driver's side air bag light would come on. Has taken vehicle to dealer & was informed they know about problem. Manufacturer is said to be working on solution. Owner is police officer & is in violation because of this particular problem.

The rear differential was cracked, as was the exhaust manifold. Also the crank sensor harness and the tps were melted against the manifold. The dash leaked water and the brake shoes/lining and rack and pinion set needed replacing. The drivers side seatbelt would never retract and the dash lead water extensively causing the resstr-blower to go out. The radio was also broken for a couple of months.

2/10/98 - 1046 miles: rear window leaked, and both brakelight housings leaked. The radio also stopped working. 7/30/98 8988 miles: the air bag light came on, and the speedometer, odometer, and tachometer stopped working. 12/30/98 15,000 miles - front drivers side seatbelt stopped retracting.

Driving at approximately 50 mph engine totally shut down/inoperative without any warning, causing a loss of control. The consumer had to pull emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. Prior to this incident, consumer had problems with the check engine light coming on every 2-3 months, but dealer cannot determine what was causing the problem.

For guage problem, all dash guages intermittently drop to zero and airbag light comes on. Hitting a bump or top of dashboard fixes problem. For #2, oil pressure drops to zero when idling in traffic in warm weather or after long periods of highway driving.

Contacted Chrysler concerning my problems, and they stated that they cannot do anything for me. When I called about my airbags the first time, I was told I would be sent arbitration paperwork and never was. When I called back, I was told that an inspector should have gone out to look at my car before it was repaired and that it was "too late now" to do anything. I was never told that an inspector or anyone else could be involved when I first contacted Chrysler. I am furious and frustrated and need help with this serious issue.
