4 Parking Brake problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/05/2011

In April 2011, my Jeep went in for service at herb chambers. There were safety recalls that needed to be fixed and I expressed my concern to the service associate about my parking brake being loose and not properly adjusted. When I returned to the dealership the diagnosis I received from the service associate was that a massachusetts registered safety inspector examined my parking brake and it was functioning properly. In may 2011, approximately a month after my vehicle was in for service, I parked my vehicle in its parking spot at my house and when I returned to my vehicle five minutes later it had rolled into the woods. When the Jeep rolled into the woods it hit three trees resulting in the rear passenger side fender ripping off. When I contacted customer service at Jeep they stated I needed to file a claim through my insurance company and there was nothing they could assist me with. A claim was filed through my insurance company and Chrysler company. Currently the Jeep is being repaired through my insurance company. I feel that once the body work is complete on my Jeep the mechanical parts of the Jeep will still be defective. I am concerned that the parking brake will fail again and could significantly damage property or a bystander. Chrysler sent out a private contractor, hank sullivan, who inspected the parking brake. When requested to be on site of his investigation of my vehicle my requested was denied. Once his investigation was complete I requested paperwork to verify he examined my vehicle and for a copy of the results for my own file, that request was also denied. Approximately a month later, I am still awaiting a letter from Chrysler with details from hank’s investigation. I received a phone call from Chrysler stating that they found nothing wrong with my vehicle. I feel that I have been discriminated against due to my age I left several messages for the special claims department at Chrysler and never received a phone call back. Only once I got one back.

5 Parking Brake problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

The emergency brake tensioner broke. It renders the e-brake inop. The car must be parked in gear in order to keep it from rolling and may still roll depending on the hill. This is not a one of a kind occurrence and has been reported many times in the Jeep jk forums. The tensioner spring is too brittle and brakes at the crimp point on the brake hand lever.

7 Parking Brake problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/24/2008

Emergency/parking brake failure. Shortly after purchase I noticed the parking brake did not hold the vehicle in place like it should. Upon parking one evening, I must have left the vehicle in neutral but I had set the brake fully. In the morning, my Jeep had drifted forward into my other vehicle, causing minor damages to both. The dealer checked the vehicle and claimed nothing was wrong. To this date, and mileage (60,000) the brake will not hold the vehicle on the slightest of grade.

8 Parking Brake problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/09/2008

I purchased a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4x4 4door. Was going to put new brake pads on the vehicle and tried to use the factory supplied jack, the Jeep was on pretty level ground but the jack was unable to lift the Jeep high enough to take the tire off safely. The jack was in such a high position that the vehicle wouldbe to unstable to continue making this a very dangerous situation waiting for a accent to happen. I now carry two pieces of a 4x4 in case I have a flat that I may need to change. I believe that Jeep needs to address this as a safety issue and issue out new jacks that are able to have the clearance needed along with stability. All 4 door Jeeps are the same since hey came out as a new model in 2007 so this would be from 2007 to 2011. The Jeep come with several tire sizes mine had 20inch tires on them but I had them taken off and changed to a 18inch tire they also come in a 17 and 16 inch but no matter what size is put on at the dealer either stock or as a dealer option the jack system should be the correct size to handle the use and for what the use is for safely.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. The contact stated that the parking brake was defective and when engaged, the vehicle would continue to roll backward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the mechanism inside the parking brake had fractured. The dealer repaired the hand brake yet one week later, the vehicle was taken back to the dealer as the failure recurred. The dealer then adjusted the tension on the hand brake. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who then performed a diagnostic and confirmed that the lubricant from the axle seal was leaking fluid. The fluid was dripping onto the shoes which prevented the parking brake from functioning correctly. The current mileage was 86,000 and the failure mileage was 3,000.

11 Parking Brake problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/11/2003

I driving my Jeep and was hit on the drivers side by a mercedes that was moving 35mph. I watch the whole scene coming through my front soft top glass window. My face hit the soft top window and broke my nose pretty bad according to dr. Charles shaffer (my surgieon). By the way the soft top and upper door halfs were the factory equipped "willy's edition" model specific which are supplied to dailmer Chrysler by hertz. Blood was everywhere and took 3 hours to completely stop the bleeding. I was wearing my seat belt by the way. I had to have surgery to my nose and several follow up sessions. I feel very lucky that it was a mercedes that hit me because they are able to crush very well. His vehicle was totaled and had neck pain and I drove home with a broke nose, bent rear axle shaft (bend was outside of the axle bearing, which makes one of my rear brakes useless), damaged factory rocker panel (willy's edition model specific), damaged body, rear fender flare, I also had to straighten and reweld the body mount that tore off the frame( there are 3 body mounting points that are clearly visible between the 2 drivers side wheels, the mount closest to the rear tire was torn off the frame) please contact me if you would like to ask me more questions at (704) 506-4592.

13 Parking Brake problem of the 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/12/2003

According to internal sales brochures and advertisements the 2003 Jeep Wrangler rubicon is supposed to be the most capable off road Jeep ever. My Jeep has been nothing but problems, which consists of 2 broken axles, faulty brakes, faulty parking brake, faulty u-joint clips, faulty wheel bearing. After paying the dealer to replace parts that should have been covered under warranty, then realizing that they failed to replace another failed part, called to ask about a workaround until the needed part came in. The advice given was to remove the broken axle shaft and drive without it. This caused brake and wheel bearing failure. An attempt to get the dealer to take responsibility for the repair cost took some time to get resolved. Finally, they fixed the problems and voided the manufacture's warranty. Reason for voiding the warranty was misuse/abuse because the vehicle had been used off-road and had mud on the under carriage. This is unacceptable because you cannot market a vehicle as off-road and then void the warranty if it is used in this manner. The vehicle was never submerged, or in mud/water deeper then the height of the bottom of the front bumper. Furthermore, Jeep claims I am a member of a 4wd club that I have no affiliation with and claims a witness saw the vehicle under water. Both not true. Asking for help from the dot to make Jeep stand by it's warranty, or have them not market the vehicle as off-road since if using it off road voids the warranty then this is false advertising.
