When pulling into a parking spot and with my foot on the break, the car suddenly accelerated. The car did not react to my breaking. The car kept moving forward over a sidewalk, over the curb on the street, into the back end of a pickup parked on the road I was facing, and started heading across the street toward another parked truck. Luckily there was no one on the sidewalk, no one was hurt. This has not happened before or since. No warning signs. When I took the car in to get an alternator replaced, the initial shop said they could not fix it bacause of codes that came up concerning the electrical system. I then had the car towed to a kia dealer. They fixed the alternator but never mentioned the other codes. Suspecious.

In a parking lot while auto was in stationary position waiting for the lot machine to issue a ticket all of a sudden the car moved forward without me pressing the gas pedal. Perhaps when I pressed the brake pedal. Second occurrence, first not reported. Unknown why this dangerous situation occured.
Bought this car used in December 2017 and within the first weeks of driving it noticed erratic problems when driving over 40mph. On the highway it has problems frequently with increasing speed when accelerated, especially on an uphill incline, and when I'm stopped/ sitting still, it tries to backfire. If I'm driving the speed limit and have to slow down due to speed limit change or slowed vehicle in front of me, when I try to pick up speed again the rpms won't go up enough to do so; I can be doing 40 mph and floor the accelerator and rpm stays at 2000 until I the car suddenly decides it wants to drive, then rpm jumps up to around 3200 rpm and the car picks up speed again and rpms drop back to normal at 2500. On uphill inclines, the car starts losing speed without breaking and accelerating doesn't increase that speed. I've had it in two different ships; on replaced the plugs (saying it was missing), and the other found a bad coil they replaced. Ood thing is that after each repair, the car behaves and drives good for a week or so, then the same problems occur again. Engine light hasn't come on at all, and I question if it even works as I don't even see the symbol light up when I start the car; I only know it has one from seeing the symbol when the sunlight shines directly onto that gauge. Maybe that's broken so it doesn't indicate there's a problem; heck if I know. The safety issue here is that highway minimum speed is 45 mph, so when vehicle losses speed or won't speed up, others could run into me nor realizing how slow I'm going. Really strange that even the repair shops don't really know what's wrong with it. I've kept checking for a recall on this problem, but none had been issued. I've already spent $700 trying to remedy this problem and truly cannot afford to continue to pour money into the car trying to fix the problem just to have it be reoccurring/misbehaving.
When pushing the gas pedal after stopping for a light, engine is sluggish and will not accelerate, almost causing an accident. Had it in the repair shop several times, cleaning the accelerator position switch contacts, and various other wiring checks. The last repair replaced the computer control module at a cost of more then $2,000. This problem has been reported many times by other owners on the repairpal web site. So far, no recall notice has been issued. Kia is reaping the benefits of all the problems we all have been having.

Just 2days ago my car started jerking real bad and also my transmission felt like it was stalling and the car was loosing acceleration power. Then after a short hesitation the vehicle, while backing in the driveway accelerated and was hard to stop. Today I noticed a small tremble in the transmission and my car almost went in traffic if I had'nt put the vehicle in neutral and applied force to the brakes,my vehicle was in motion on both incidents,I'm not afraid of my vehicle, but I don't want to cause or be in an accident.
Kia Amanti losing power while driving or losing power then accelerating out of control and kia seems not to be able to fix the problem.

When driving the engine suddenly quits, the car jerks, and the accelerator does not work. I have to coast to the side of the road and restart the car. This is a huge safety issue since there is no warning before this happens. Another issue is the engine revving upon starting. I have to hold the brake firmly because the car will intermittently lurch either forward or back without warning. I have also had the car try to lurch forward at a stoplight. I have to keep the brake firmly depressed since it is an intermittent problem. I cannot believe this model has not been recalled. It is a definite danger to driver, passengers, and others. I have read many complaints online with regard to this problem, but still no recall. I would participate in a class action suit. I talked with the dealer and kia and they are no help.
The contact own a 2006 kia Amanti. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that they could not find the failure. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 82,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.
I was slowing down to a red light and the check engine light came on and the car died. I turned the key so I could begin to try to start the vehicle and I noticed the rpm's start revving up and its trying to over-accelerate when I put it in drive. I managed to get it to a safe spot but I was 100% worried it was going to cause an accident or accelerate out of control. It sounds very if not exactly similar to a lot of the other complaints. No codes come up for this issue and it is serious.
2005 kia Amanti: occasionally the accelerator will barely move the car even though it's floored, then there is a sudden severe lurch forward. My dealer is unaware of any recall, or problem with this. This occurs 4 or 5 times a year, and could cause an accident. There are hundreds of reports of this online, why no action?.
The contact owns a 2009 kia Amanti. While driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle suddenly decelerated on its own. The contact was able to drive to the shoulder of the road and turn the vehicle off. Within approximately forty five minutes the vehicle functioned normally. The failure occurred twice before the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,300. Updated 09/15/11.
As I pulled up to park my car behind a parked car, my car surged and crashed into the back of the parked car. I was easing into the space at a very slow speed and actually had my foot on the brake. The motor suddenly revved up, I felt the surge, stood on the brake pedal, but was unable to control the car. Although damage was minimal, I was concerned about another occurrence driving the vehicle and had it towed into the dealership. The service advisor said they have never heard of an incident like this with the Amanti. There are many reports of these unexplained acceleration incidents with the kia Amanti online. Hopefully these people are reporting them to you. If this had happened while trying to stop at a crosswalk for pedestrians, someone would have been seriously injured. At the consumers request, the component was revised to speed control. 05/10/11.
The contact owns a 2006 kia Amanti. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph and began to slow down in order to make a turn. When attempting to accelerate there was a low engine power response with hesitation. The accelerator pedal was applied numerous times, and then suddenly an excessive acceleration occurred causing the vehicle to crash into a house. A police report was not filed. There were no personal injuries. The vehicle and the house sustained extensive damage. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.
2004 kia Amanti engine races and lunges forward when applying the brakes at stop sign. This has happened 5 times and kia says they can not duplicate it so nothing has been done.
Ever since I bought my 2005 kia Amanti, I've had issues with the acceleration, lack of acceleration. I took it to dealer when it was still under warranty to let them know sometimes it had no power on initial take off and I would have to just drive it as is until it decided to accelerate properly. Other times I will begin driving from a complete stop and it feels like it just has a tremendous amount of power with the acceleration. I never reported the quick acceleration - I just figured it was the v6 engine, since I've always had a 4- cylinder engine. Now the dealer is claiming I need to replace my throttle body and that it is a $900 part. I have not experienced a car accident due to this problem.
Car just loses power then has an acceleration of power where it is out of control. This is a 2006 kia Amanti and has the problem since we bought it 2 years ago. Kia has not been able to fix it even though we have had it at the dealer's several time. What happens is you try to accelerate and there is no power, then the car has a power surge which takes the driver unaware. This is a very dangerous situation. It only occurs about once a month and the dealer says they can't duplicate the problem. They have changed the throttle sensor the last time and it didn't fix the problem.
Failure to move or accelerate from a stop, has happened approx 7 times in the last six months. Dealer can not find the problem, the car is at the dealers now because this problem occurred twice in the past week.
The contact owns a 2005 kia Amanti. When the contact attempted to accelerate from a stop he noticed that the vehicle will surge forward uncontrollably. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the failure could not be reproduced and could not be serviced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 60000. Updated 05/07/10. Updated 08/26/10.
I was stopping for a stop sign and engine suddenly raced and could not depress the brake pedal hard enough to stop. Shifted into neutral and engine stopped racing and car screeched to a halt. This has happened four times in last two years and each time I have shot through the stop sign. I took car to dealer and each time was told that this has not been reported by anybody else and could not be duplicated. I was told it could be a possible vacuum leak, but an independent brake specialist has told me there are no leaks and the brakes are fine. Nothing else has been done. I am reporting the latest incident.
The contact owns a 2005 kia Amanti. While approaching a stop light, the rmps increased rapidly, the vehicle accelerated and lunged into traffic. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by a dealer. The contact is concerned about the safety risk since a crash could have occurred. The failure mileage was 52,000.
The contact owns a 2006 kia Amanti. The contact stated that the vehicle surged forward while driving at low speeds. The failure occurred moments after starting the vehicle while driving under 10 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on numerous occasions, but they were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 22,000.
While attempting to apply pressure to the accelerator pedal the vehicle hesitated. This occurred intermittently car appeared to be stuck in first and would not shift. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2004 kia Amanti. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle did not respond when the accelerator pedal was depressed. Immediately following and without warning, the vehicle accelerated with great force. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, but they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on five separate occasions for identical failures, but there were no resolutions. The throttle body assembly and accelerator sensor were replaced. The vehicle is currently being repaired. The failure mileage was 46,000 and current mileage was 54,000.
The date below refers to most recent event. This has happened around 10 times since I have owned the vehicle (2007 kia Amanti purchased new). In the most recent event I could not stop the car from running a red light, entering an intersection and nearly had a collision in the process. The problem is this: every now and then applying pressure to the brakes--which of course is supposed to stop the car--actually causes the car to accelerate dramatically--to jackrabbit I think it is called--with such force that even full pressure applied to the brakes cannot stop it. The tachometer goes into the red or danger zone when this happens. I have noted on kia forum (a web site for kia owners with no connection to Kia Motor company) other Amanti owners have reported the same problem. The kia company does not acknowledge any problem and says that I must take it in so that it can be fixed if the service department can duplicate the problem. Of course, given the infrequency of the problem, they have not been able to duplicate the problem when I have taken it in--most recently a couple of days ago. Since I can never know when it might happen, all driving of the car makes me very anxious--afraid it will happen, for example, when I approach a crosswalk full of children. I feel I have no choice but to get rid of the car. I will, of course, feel morally obligated to reveal the problem when I trade the car in and will thus no doubt take a significant financial loss. This will be better than hurting someone either inside or outside of the car, however. I know very little about cars, but I would guess it is some kind of computer problem that happens only under certain unpredictable conditions. Just knowing it could happen at any time, however, makes the car too scary and dangerous to drive. If I can, I will get rid of the car as early as tomorrow even if I take a significant financial loss.

The contact owns a 2005 kia Amanti. The contact stated the vehicle would independtly decrease speed and would not go any faster then 15 mph. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times who stated they needed to clean the wires. The wires were cleaned but the failure continued. The repair was done under warranty each time. The manufacturer was contacted who offered no assistance. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the failure mileage was 83,000.
From the day I bought the vehicle the throttle tip has been very aggressive. I barely touch the gas pedal and the car jumps forward. I feel this could lead to an accident and cause potential injury.

On numerous occasions since I bought car in 2006 ,the car suddenly slows to 10-15 mph, you get no response from the gas pedal, then suddenly lurches forward at full throttle. Every Amanti owner I have spoken with has this issue! a driver could be easily involved in a fatal incident with this issue. This also occurs upon startup when parked. If there is a car in front of you in a parking lot, you would hit it. One owner said he had the control module "flashed" and it solved his problem. Could we please get some action on this? kia is well aware of the problem. I tell the service advisor about it every time I'm at the dealer. I will file a giant lawsuit if I'm involved in an accident and survive. I'm in on a class action suit if anyone has one going.
The slightest touch of the gas will cause it to lurch forward, but also it lags, you can push the acceleration deep and still not much response. Usually this is what happens I'll back out of the driveway, put into drive, touch the gas, and it will lurch. Back off the gas lurch again. Full stop and then the car will run just fine. I have had the car into the dealer they say they can not find a problem.
Dear sir: I am the owner of a 2004 kia Amanti. There are 43,542 miles on the odometer. The vehicle engine runs fine and then will suddenly go into lugging and misfiring at various speeds causing down shifting. When I turn the engine off and leave it to set overnight or for more than eight hours at work, the engine light remains on but the engine runs fine once started again. After a few more starts the engine light goes off. I took it to the dealership and told them of the symptoms. They ran tests and said they could find nothing wrong. They said bring it back when it does it again. Fine, so it goes into the misfiring on a weekend at night traveling the interstate. No chance to just leave the engine running for a dealership the next day. Now it runs fine again until another inconvenient situation. Problematically, the engine behavior creates a driving hazard at high and low speeds and could easily cause an accident. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be resolved by kia, not by its ignorant or ill trained dealer mechanics. Are you familiar with this problem? is it the computer module that may have a short or crack in the housing? misfiring is a timing issue and most surely goes to the firing order and timing controlled by the advance mechanism and the module. Or is it the throttle system? or egr valve or solenoids? do americans need to die before kia comes up with an answer? I need to get this fixed before my wife who panics may have a serious accident.
My Amanti was barely rolling as I pulled into a parking space. However, the moment I depressed the brake pedal, the car took off like a rocket! I looked down at the floor to be sure that I was stepping on the brake pedal and I was! when I realized the car had already taken down a sign and its pole, I thought perhaps the brakes had failed, so I stepped on the brake pedal even harder but the car continued to accelerate until it was out of control and taking me through a mass of pompous grass and out the other side into an empty strip of land. After going through the pompous grass, the car spun to the left towards the tree lined parking strip. I panicked not knowing where the car was going to take me next or how I could stop it. Suddenly it occurred to me that perhaps if I could turn the key off, it would shut the engine down. I prayed that it would work and thank god it did. As soon as the car came to a stop I got out of the car, shaking and crying. Other than being towed for diagnosis, the car has not been driven since. Ceo of kia in korea did not acknowledge letters, manufacturer in us does not acknowledge problem, and dealer will do nothing! we are paying for this car and are unable to drive it! it's unsafe! we now have it in legal process.
- the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop the vehicle would not accelerate. This was an intermittent problem. If the vehicle did accelerate, it would do so very slowly and the rpms were running as though the consumer was traveling at an accelerated speed. The contact stated that this could happen anytime of the day. The contact stated that sometimes when trying to pass another vehicle on the highway at a speed of 60 mph the vehicle didn't accelerate into overdrive. The contact took the vehicle to dealership on several occasions, the most recent being 11/27/06. The contact did have the service mechanic perform a test drive and he did notice the problem with the acceleration. The contact stated that the dealership has contacted her and told her to come in and pick up her vehicle, she was told that they had to reprogram the computer system in the vehicle. Updated 1/22/2007 - the dealer returned the vehicle to the consumert with any repairs being made.
My 2005 kia Amanti has an intermittent problem with the accelerator, after backing up, when the car is put into drive and the gas pedal depressed, nothing happens. The car will not accelerate, even when the pedal is depressed all the way to the floor. The engine does not rev; the car just idles and won't accelerate. At other times, the slightest touch of the gas pedal can cause the car to lurch forward briefly. I have taken it to the kia dealership three times. They say they have never heard of this problem, although if I google "amanti accelerator problems" I find dozens of complaints about this. My dealer insists that until they can duplicate the problem at the dealership there is nothing that can be done. I am concerned that this may cause an accident and would like to get this fixed, if I only knew how.
The contact owns a 2005 kia Amanti. The contact stated that the vehicle would intermittently surge forward momentarily while driving at any speed. The contact also stated the vehicle would intermittently decelerate momentarily while driving at any speed. During the failures a check engine light would illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the throttle body assembly was replaced on three occasions. The failure continued to occur. The failure mileage was 18,313 and the current mileage was 120,000.
The vehicle has had sporadic problems with 'jack rabbiting', when pressing the accelerator pedal. With a light touch to the gas pedal, the jars literally jumps forward. In each case, it takes about three touches to the gas pedal, to get to 'normal driving. It is a fast acceleration, which causes the tires to 'screech' sometimes and the car to jump forward. The second item that started happening is that the car appeared to be stuck in first and would not shift. The car would not accelerate. This has now caused me to also get run over twice, due to not being able to accelerate. Another problem appeared yesterday. I applied the brake and the car would not immediately stop. The engine revved up, not fast, but it was enough to keep the car moving for a short distance, before it stopped. It scared the hell out of me. I have never experienced something like that with a vehicle.
