37 Power Train problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 05/25/2023

On may 25th 2023 I was driving on the highway when I experienced extreme loss of power and the infotainment screen displayed "possible engine condition". Considering I was driving 70 mph on the highway it was super dangerous because there were several 18 wheelers driving on the highway alongside me it could have been deadly for many of us. Thankfully I was able to get to the shoulder to assess the situation. I have been unable to get my vehicle to a dealership since I was traveling and had to leave my vehicle 150 mi from where I live. If kia knew there was some sort of issue with engine failure and extreme loss of power they should have issued notification before other than have people possibly die on the highway from engine failure.

38 Power Train problem of the 2023 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 05/07/2023

I’ve had my car at the dealer four times now within the first 10k miles to get its fourth transmission replacement. Kia will not replace the transmission with a brand new one however settles for used refurbished transmissions with used parts. Which have been failing on average of 1000 to 1500 miles later.

39 Power Train problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 03/23/2023

I was driving down expressway and my car started to make rattling noise and clanking noise from the engine and then my car wouldn’t start it kept stuttering. My 2019 kia Forte was stalling it was not accelerating past 3k rpm’s and then the engine would completely shut off. Now my car has been out of commission for a few weeks.

40 Power Train problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 03/08/2023

I have always gotten my oil changed on time and even had it changed a few days before my engine failed. I was driving down the road going home from work when my car started making a ticking sound that soon turned into a hard knocking sound coming from the engine. My car then shut off in the middle of traffic while at a red light. I tried to start it back up but nothing was happening. My check engine light never came on to give me any type of warning that the engine was in bad shape. Took it to the kia dealership where it took over a month and a half to get someone to look at my car and give me an answer as to what was wrong with it. Kia knows that the engines in these cars are not built to last and that they could have failed before reaching 100,000 miles. I was also hung up on by someone from the kia consumer hotline. I feel kia should be responsive and held accountable as far as paying for the repairs and me not coming out of pocket. I will not be dealing with kia ever again.

41 Power Train problem of the 2023 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/15/2023

I have had two transmission replacements within the first 6000 miles on the vehicle. And now the 3rd transmission is whining after only 600 miles.

42 Power Train problem of the 2020 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/11/2023

On highway at 65mph engine began revving, accelerating higher on its own then speed would drop down 10-15 mph, erratic tachometer going up to max 6 at 65 mph, slipping gears and took total control of speed and then dropped down to 10mph at 6 tachometer and then wouldn’t go past 5 mph. No warning lights, no check engine.

43 Power Train problem of the 2020 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/10/2023

While I am driving it is hard shifting and idling high, sometimes it doesn't want to pick up speed when starting from a stop. The wheels locked up going down a off ramp. There are no warning lights or anything on the dash. I will have it checked Monday but this started out of the blue. I have had regular maintenance on the vehicle and have all my receipts for proof. This is a serious issue especially with the wheels not functioning right and speed control is fluctuating.

44 Power Train problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/15/2022

Son purchased his first car and like the 17 Forte. Bought it for around 12k and drove it for 8k miles and he had the engine start knocking. No indication lights nothing. Checked the oil thinking it could be that but it wasn’t low on oil. Had it towed to our mechanic he said the motor was blown. Kia would not do anything after it sat in the dealership ship for 21 days. Just received an estimate of $7800 to replace a motor with a used motor with 42k on it!! are you kidding me! these motors are horrible and there service is the same. Stand behind your product if you ever want to be successful. He could have been stranded in the middle of nowhere with a car having less then 100k miles on it. Needs to be recalled.

45 Power Train problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/14/2022

The car is unable to receive fuel adequately. Car was sold in an intermittently undriveable condition.

46 Power Train problem of the 2021 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 10/24/2022

It seems the car may have a defect in the transmission(dual clutch). The car makes at times an abrupt stop, for like a second or two, after I press on the gas. When I'm driving, especially at low speeds I can hear the transmission's parts make a grinding sounds, loud clicks. When I'm breaking, it's not smooth at all; I feel the car pulling a bit when switching to lower gears during the breaking process. When I have the car on and not moving (I. E parked), I can hear sounds emanating from the bottom of the car, like parts grinding against other parts. I have not seen any indicator light turn on from the vehicle, to this day. I have taken it to the dealership before, more than once, but they haven't found any issues with it. Still I feel they have not done a full inspection of the car, and I feel something is off with the transmission, like there's something loose somewhere in the car.

47 Power Train problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 10/09/2022

Hesitates to start. Spudders when in drive “d”. Must drive in “s” sport to stop the spuddering.

48 Power Train problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 10/06/2022

Failed/malfunctioned component: engine. Safety risk: engine makes noises and stalls for no apparent reason. Reproduction/confirmation: I'm contacting the dealers&manufacturers. A third party mechanic said the engine noise was a knocking sound. Warning lamps/symptoms: suddenly a noise started when the engine was working 3,000 rpm or more. After ~10 miles of driving, a louder noise started. After <10 miles more of driving (to visit a third party mechanic) from that, it had an engine oil lamp turned on, while the engine has enough engine oil. After ~1 mile, the engine failed.

49 Power Train problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 09/04/2022

When driving on a divided four lane highway, after about one hour and at about 60 mph, vehicle would not accepperate to pass. Loss of power in traffic. Felt like transmission slipping, but the check engine light came on. P0240 code. It got progressively worse. An experienced mechanic diagnosed it as the engine, and was not sure I could drive to dealership. I had it towed. The warranty (10 year, 100,000 mile), covers engine, as agreed by delar. First, the dealer said it was catalytic converter $2200. When questioned, price was "corrected" to $1,200. Most for part and less than one hour labor. On a differen phone call, repair cost increased to $3300, saying the tech mistakenly thought it was the cat near muffler, but its the cat near engine, and comes as one pice with exhaust manifold. I am waiting on written estimate that I requested, and the dealer assurance there are no other problems with the car. I suggested they drive the car, and see that the problems are the same ones they used to have to video tape and send to kia to get repairs approved on other engines. Still waiting on the written estimate and the assurance from dealer there is no safety risk in me driving it home. I can buy the kia part they say it needs for about $500.

50 Power Train problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 08/12/2022

I recently inherited this car from my mother and it appears that the engine may have issues. There is a loud noise that comes from the engine intermittently. It is louder at times then other times. The oil level is fine and recent. I've done a lot of research and it appears this is a common problem for the 2. 0 engine. I feel as though this could turn into a bigger scenario if something is not done for the lack of expense a person must put into these engines.

51 Power Train problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 07/21/2022

Powertrain, engine light on, losing power.

52 Power Train problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 07/10/2022

In or around July 10th, 2022, the vehicle’s engine began making knocking sounds on several occasions while my wife was driving. On July 20th, 2022, I brought it into the dealership (dick hannah kia, vancouver, wa) where it was diagnosed as a problem with a bearing of a piston rod within the engine. On my drive to the dealership, I experience a loss of power, knocking sounds from the engine, and the oil light come on indicating a loss of oil pressure. Vehicle has 70,xxx miles. Dealership has advised me that the vehicle is unsafe to drive, but is failing to cover this under powertrain warranty. Seeing that this an engine similar to those noted in a NHTSA as related to flaherty et al. V. Hyundai motor company et al. , I wanted to file a safety report so that others are aware of the potential safety issue.

53 Power Train problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

54 Power Train problem of the 2021 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 04/25/2022

Vehicle has issues where transmission actuator will stop functioning causing sudden loss of acceleration. Was doing 70 mph in expressway and vehicle stopped accelerating. Issue has occurred two times, both times being serviced by dealership, after receiving the vehicle back, issue still persists, vehicle lost acceleration suddenly when turning into a intersection.

55 Power Train problem of the 2021 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 03/10/2022

Car stalled and shut off while in drive leading it to be towed.

56 Power Train problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 03/02/2022

The engine on my kia Forte failed just 12k miles after a recall service that was intended to ensure an additional 80k miles of engine use. Either the recall work to ensure that additional range was defective, or the process that designed the work was defective. Recall # 20v750 was to check for engine damage, and install a knock sensor update that would prevent engine failure. At the time of service the dealership ignored reported oil problems and did not perform the inspection as described in the recall notice. The eventual sensor alert that was supposed to prevent damage is instead being treated by the dealer as a catastrophic result that requires replacement. On two fronts the work performed was not as described- there was no legitimate inspection (note the reported oil burn reported by the dealership), and the prevention-enabling sensor update failed to prevent anything.

57 Power Train problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/20/2022

Driving along the highway and transmission failure occurred, causing engine rpm to jump sky high and rapid deceleration without warning or brake lights. Luckily we were not hit by any other cars and were able to pull get off the highway onto the service road. Check engine light came on and the car wouldn't move. Turned the car off and back on after a few minutes and the transmission wouldn't move forward without massive rpm and no faster than 12mph or so. This is the second time this has happened. I didn't report the first time because figured it was a one-off occurrence. The first time we had 26,000 miles on the car, this time, the new transmission went out after only 8,000 miles. All services have been performed by the kia dealer directly. Car is back at kia dealer for the transmission replacement again. No confidence in keeping the car given they replaced it with the same transmission that had problems twice!.

58 Power Train problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/20/2022

The transmission has had multiple catastrophic transmissions failures while driving. The transmission does not engage and the car cannot accelerate, which has created severe safety issues, especially on the freeway. We were almost hit by two semi-trucks this last time because the transmission would not engage and would only rev high while traveling on the turnpike in an 80 mph zone and the car decelerated quickly due to lack of engagement and the rpm gauge just would redline with no movement to the wheels. This has happened several time before but this was the one that scared us the most. . . Each event was scary. The first transmission failure happened at around 20k miles and if the transmission is replaced this time it would be the third replacement transmission within only 10k miles since the care only has 30k miles on it. I have talked with the dealership and kia consumer assistance multiple time with no resolutions. They are obviously aware of the issues with this transmission and just keep making promises that never happen and just keep us in a consistent state of a "runaround. ".

59 Power Train problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/20/2022

Bought a used 2014 kia Forte from ourisman kia in chantilly, va in November, 2021. Had 116k miles. 2/20/22, traveling on 55 mph three lane road, the car suddenly lost all power as I was driving in the left lane. Engine light was flashing. I put on hazards and was able to pull off the highway. On 2/21/22 ourisman kia service added oil, cleared error codes, and told us to drive 1000 miles and bring it back. We did not make it to 1000 miles. Car again suddenly went into limp mode and flashing engine light while teenage son was driving on 3/15. Code po302 was detected. Ourisman kia service replaced ignition coil and spark plugs 3/17. On 3/23, car again suddenly went into limp mode and engine light started flashing again while on highway. Returned car to ourisman kia service 3/24/22 where it still sits. Code p1326 is detected. At any of these three times the car went into limp mode while driving on highway, me or my family could have been in serious accident. Car completely loses power to nothing and then slowly rebuilds to max 2000 rpm / approx 40 mph.

62 Power Train problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 12/18/2021

My car was vehicle was driving on the highway over 200 miles away from home when I was driving about 65 mph the speed limit. When trying to accelerate on the highway my vehicle would jump from 2,000 rpms - 4,000 rpm not going faster. As I hit the gas my speed decreased and I pulled over the side of the road. When I tried to turn on/off my car the check engine light randomly appeared and I was stuck on the side of the road unable to accelerate. My car could have been rear ended on the highway with speed limit of 65 mph and I could have died if I didn't think quickly and pull to the side of the road. The dealer that the car towed to confirmed my car's transmission needed to be replaced. The only prior warning was my car's acceleration was decreased after recall sc199 was completed by the dealership.

63 Power Train problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 12/03/2021

The transmission failed while on the interstate/freeway while trying to merge into traffic. The vehicle lost power and would not accelerate even though the engine was revving up in rpms. The vehicle is available. The transmission was replaced with a "refurbished transmission" through warranty by kia. Two days later the car began jerking and the check engine light came on. The vehicle was returned to the dealership. The car was then returned to me, the owner, only to have the check engine light come back on, so the car was returned a third time for "transmission" related issues. The vehicle in question has been at the dealership for over two months as the dealership tells me that they are going "back and forth with kia techline" to figure out the issue. The initial transmission failure was confirmed by the kia technicians and reproduced prior to the "refurbished" transmission being put in. The vehicle and component have been inspected by the kia technicians who say they cannot solve the issue and are currently working with kia techline to solve the issue. The only prior symptoms were briefs moments of hesitation in acceleration from the vehicle when on the interstate/freeway. This series of events began at the beginning of December 2021 and the vehicle is still in the shop as of April 3, 2022.

64 Power Train problem of the 2010 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/11/2021

While the vehicle was operating the engine had a noticeable amount of power reduction and there were multiple knocking sounds occurring simultaneously. The vehicle was being operated in the right-most furthest lane of a busy freeway in the middle of traffic and at freeway speeds of approximately 65 mph. The issue seemed to originate from the engine causing engine malfunction without engine light indication. There was no engine light prior, during, or post-incident. The vehicle has been professionally inspected, but not thoroughly diagnosed. Altogether, the motor has had a major unidentifiable malfunction and now I have no transportation from the once-reliable vehicle I was using.

69 Power Train problem of the 2020 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 09/04/2021

My expectant granddaughter was driving the vehicle on a trip. The transmission started intermittently slipping en route. She stopped and when she returned to the vehicle she discovered it would no longer go forward or backwards. It is still under warranty. The vehicle is still in colorado. This happened sept 4, 2021. It is now 10/13. I have contacted kia multiple times speaking with different people. I escalated the call and was told someone named melissa was my escalations person. I have never spoken to her. I have requested a buy back of the vehicle due to possibility of reoccurrence. My granddaughter was stranded for a week. The car is at a dealership, ft collins kia. We have had to pay for hotel, car rental, and a flight out of pocket. I requested reimbursement. They have not responded. I filled out the information for the buy back, but I do not have all of the paperwork. It is in the car in colorado. We live in south texas. No way to get access to it. This is wrong on so many levels. We are at a loss as to what to do. If the transmission had quit while she was moving the results could have been disasterous. Kia says the part is sitting on a dock somewhere waiting to be picked up. Is there an expected timeline? we had to replace the vehicle due to the cost of car rentals.

70 Power Train problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 07/20/2021

The engine has lower engine knocking. It has a rod knocking very loud. It could throw a rod through engine at any time, cause the vehicle to wreck and catch on fire. Yes, it was confirmed that it had a rod knocking in engine. Yes, an ase certified mechanic. No check engine light came on. It just started knocking real bad and lost power. They appeared as I was driving down the road.
