As a loyal customer one of my kia was stolen and the officer said to contact kia so the cars can get the update on anti- theft software and a safety car lock to prevent this from happening again. Spoke with daisy and gave me this # 15808549.

2023 kia Forte lxs drives unsteady requiring continuous correction of steering: feels excessive bumpiness/bounciness in the front end with subtle abnormal sideways movement (as if drifting away or swaying). It also feels the vehicle has subtle but sudden shaky movements and looseness in the wheel leading up to steering but no vibration. This is felt at both slow speed and highway speed. Dealership service dept. Has already checked the wheels alignment, balancing and suspension, and found them to be okay. To me, the symptoms suggest faulty steering system such as steering linkage or steering column. However dealership now refuses to acknowledge the issue calling it a normal function of the vehicle. Every time I drive the vehicle, it feels unsafe. Dealership also does not accept my requests to investigate the steering system. In fact they shut the door at my face.

New 2023 kia Forte lxs (barely 1020 miles) steering wheel feels stiffer and steering the car becomes challenging when driving at or above 45 mph with lane-assist feature set to 'warning only'. Vehicle starts to steer away (wander) automatically. This issue is subtle when driving at lower speed such as 20 -30 mph. Passengers in the back seat felt unsafe including the driver at the time of this occurrence. I emailed the dealer twice but didn't hear back for 2-3 weeks. Then I called dealer to vent out the frustration over the issue then they asked me to visit the service center for inspection of the problem. Right from the beginning, service dept. Was in denial of such an issue after test driving the car. In the first visit, they checked the wheel alignment which was okay. In the second visit, they sent me back saying no appointments were available. In third appointment the technician turned blind-spot feature to 'warning only' and sent me back. So far these visits or appointments were atleast a week or more apart. I drove the vehicle again with the damn features off such as blind-spot, lane-assist still the issue persists with steering wheel being felt stiffer at higher speed and softer or loose at lower speed. I have another car, the steering wheel of which remains softer when driving at 50 mph or more however the new 2023 kia Forte does not.
My car was broken into and the anti theft system failed to protect my car. The entire steering column is damaged as well as a window.
I took my 2014 kia Forte ex for a warranty job for fex steering coupler. The service advisor(nick lum)at dch of temecula said it only cover 5 years, 60,000 miles. I understand kia extending the warranty to 10 years, unlimited miles. The service advisor told me they won't fix it because it's not on the computer information. I would like to get this fixed as my 10 years end on October 25,2023.

Kia Forte 2018 - the engine stopped working while driving (around 55mph) the car shut off and I could barely control the car as I no longer had speed control which made it risky going from one line to another to get off the road and pull over, putting myself and the other drivers at risk of an accident, and almost at the end when leaving the road the steering column became hard and I could not control the steering wheel very well. The car was towed to the dealer but they said they couldn't check it because they were overloaded for the next few weeks and the closest to check it would be at least 10 to 15 business days after they finished their current services (I called 4 other kia agencies around the winston-salem nc area and they all told me the same thing), so the car was towed to an independent service where they inspected it and determined that the engine had a problem with some internal components and that it is necessary to replace the whole engine, I called the dealer but they told me that because it has more than 100,000 miles the engine no longer has a warranty (currently it has 118,000 miles), a few days before the engine light on the dashboard came on but the next day it went off and then it did not turn on again.

Steering wheels coupler problem.
I am so sadden and broke. My kia 2021 Forte was stollen. The car has just about 8k miles. The thieves had busted rear passenger side glass, torn down steering column, opened electric wiring skelton and taken away the car. Police said they found my damaged car. I was also told that my damaged car was towed and was kept at auto body shop. I'm so depressed, upset. Its difficult to express in words how saddened I'm at loss in all aspects - physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially since the vehicle was stolen.

The contact owns a 2023 kia Forte. The contact stated while pulling out of the driveway and making a left turn, there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from underneath the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who test drove the vehicle and diagnosed that no issues were found. However, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred increasingly while making left turns, and there was a clunking sensation on the floorboard. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 22v906000 ( steering); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80.
Issue seems to be with the steering of the car. It is very stiff and difficult to maneuver. Steering needs to be hold tightly to keep car in the lane, else car keeps on going towards the right side. I took the car to service center as well and they also acknowledged the problem and as per my understanding they fixed some steering angle issue. But, issue is still persisting and I tried to take the appointment but seems like no kia service center has appointment available before one month. Requesting to look into this issue so that it can be fixed or I can return the car.
Steering wheel started feeling loose then progressed to jerking back and forth. Jerks from side to side simply driving easy down the road. Making ticking, clicking, grinding noises too. I do not feel safe and can no longer drive my car. I’m taking it to the dealer tomorrow (a long wait) and suspect it is the same mdps coupler kia and Hyundai have issued an extended warranty on - for all vehicles except the kia Forte. What gives with that? ridiculous.
My car was in for a recall repair on another item and the repair of the steering coupler part was noted to be needed. The parts personnel stated they informed me that the steering coupler was in need of repair and that I had declined this service. My vehicle did not have 100,000 miles on it yet. They in fact said nothing to me about this repair needed to be be done. It affect the steering of the vehicle and causes a lot of play in the car’s steering.
Steering coupler in steering motor defect. Known issue in many models and see a recall on some vehicles: this issue was corrected on my 2016 sorento but not on my 2014 kia Forte. My son’s friend also has his kia optima denied repair for the same issue. An acknowledged problem that somehow kia has been forced to correct on all their models. A major flaw over poor design using a $5-7 part that kia dealers charge $500 to repair. Unethical.
Clunk and clicking in steering. There is extra play in steering. All research points to a steering coupler.
Car has steering issues. When driving on flat straight roads steering wheel will slightly tighten and start to pull to the right. This happens about 70% of the time. Resistance on the steering wheel is needed in order for the car not to drive off the road or into another vehicle. It is hard keep the car in the lanes at times. Car was kept in the shop for 4+ months and verified by the dealership that there was an alignment issue. It has had 5+ alignments. Dealerships have not fixed the issue, but are now saying the car is driving as designed. Alignment has been done by a different dealership two more times after they said, the car was driving as designed. There are recalls on this car for steering issues, but I was told my VIN is not associated.
This morning I needed to move my son's 2014 kia Forte. There was very notable clicking noise in the steering wheel with even the slightest turn. I googled "clicking noise in steering wheel" and found thousands of listings (all kia and Hyundai) for failures of a coupler in vehicles along with numerous videos with the same symptoms that I experienced. I also found that for 2012/2013 soul and 2014 cadenza that kia had done an extended warranty for 10 years unlimited miles that was posted on the NHTSA website. I could not find anything similar for the kia Forte even though I found many on-line consumer complaints for the same issue in the kia. I contacted both the nearest service dealer (no appointments until April) and kia consumer and they said they had a significant back-log for any service. I would like to know if there have been enough complaints from kia Forte owners that the warranty extension would apply. If not, I would like to add this complaint for the kia Forte so that the NHTSA knows that the issue is more widespread than just for the models listed in the original extension. Thanks so much.
Car has a steering/pull issue. Car will pull to the right when driving on a flat straight road. Steering wheel will tighten up and then the pull starts to occur. Resistance must be applied in order to keep the car on the road. The lane keep safety feature has to be turned completely off or car will jerk back due to the pull issue. The pull issue becomes more noticeable after taking right turns. Car was taken to dealership with around 500miles on the car due to this issue. Dealership has attempted to fix this issue 5 times and each time said it was a alignment issue and was fixed. On the 6th time they said it’s normal and that’s how this car drives. Car was kept at the dealership for over 2 months straight with confirmation that it has a pull. Every time the car has been in the shop they have acknowledged the pull. During this time the emergency brake has activated twice while driving around 40mph for no reason.
Steering wheel making a clicking noise when turning both ways, stationed and moving, also rattles a lot when going over speed bumps, seems like a manufacturer defect as this is a common thing heard around these kia’s.
Flex coupler went bad - $500 replacement. The optima was already recalled for this same part. Please recall the Forte lines so that we can be reimbursed for this obvious kia issue.
Failure of the flexible coupling in the motor driven power steering (mdps). This is a known issue and kia has extended the warranty on the optima, soul, and cadenza that use the exact same defective part. For some unexplained reason the Forte has been excluded from coverage. It should also be noted that Hyundai has included the elantra (which is the sister model to the Forte) as well as the sonata. As mentioned all of these vehicles were assembled with the same, admittedly defective part. The warranty has been extended on every model with the exception of the Forte. The current TSB (cha 074) acknowledges the problem without offering a comparable remedy as provided for all other affected models.
I have 3 major recalls on this vehicle. I received recall from kia but dealership will not fix the problem.
My husband was driving down a street going roughly 45 miles an hour and all of a sudden there was a jerking feeling and the steering wheel locked up on him and he could no manage the direction that the car would go. Yes it is available for inspection upon request. The steering and the direction of the car going 45. Miles an hour definitely endangered us that was in the car and those that were on the road at the approximate time that we were. There was only 42000 miles on the car and we had only had it 58 days. We had it towed to the dealership kia Nissan in monroe la. And was told that it would cost 2000 to fix. So I then had it towed to another mechanic and got a completely different story. That the car had been wrecked before even though it didn’t show on the carfax and they were there was ways to tell it and also told that rack and pinion‘s don’t break usually until 220 300,000 miles. I spent every penny I had saved after losing everything in hurricane laura to buy this car. Not only do I feel very lied to by the dealership that I bought it from and misinformed and uninformed a certain issues that would’ve prevented me from buying a car on top of that I’m paying 24% interest rate and now they want to increase the interest rate because the car is broke down and they had to defer some payments because I can’t get to work because I don’t have a vehicle. I’ve had kia check out the car and I’ve had two other mechanics check out the car and both of them told me separate stories different problems different prices and I need some help establishing where is the fault lies. Because I don’t think I should be responsible for a injury to a car or is it something that broke on its own and almost endangered our lives when the car had only been driven 42,000 miles. There was absolutely no warning signs no flashes of light no nothing to warn of this problem it happened out of nowhere and it was very scary and not rush I wanna keep the car anymore because I was scary.
The mdps power steering coupler became worn out causing erratic steering issues. The coupler part its self is not even listed on the vehicle so the dealership would only recommend replacing the entire mdps. I replaced the coupler myself due to lack of affordability for entire motor. Steering is now fixed. Additional ongoing issue with left turn signal bulbs have burned out repeatedly within days of being changed cuurently the bulb is working but the system doesnt register that signals are working causing hyper flashing. Researching these issues I have found multiple online sources claiming similar issues with both turn signals and power steering couplers.
My main issue is concerning a critical design flaw that has been found due to a social media challenge called the kia challenge where people are able to start up and steal a kia after only using a usb cord adapter (found near the key start on the steering wheel) without needing a key. This has caused a concerning increase in the theft of kias across the country which has also affected my insurance rates. After repeatedly trying to contact kia for two days on August 2nd and August 3rd, I was finally able to get in contact with customer service concerning the recent issue with kias (model years of 2011 to 2021 with manual key start steering wheels) that are being stolen by just using a usb cord to turn on the car without a key. After waiting on hold for an hour, the customer service agent was extremely rude and uncaring about my concerns as my area is also being affected by these recent car thefts. My insurance rates have also gone up due to the overall riskiness of owning these cars and their likelihood of being stolen because it has a key start for the engine. After doing research on the information available to me, I found out that kia higher-ups approved measures to cut the costs by not including automobile immobilizers that have been the industry standard for a little over 20s years. It makes no sense that my older 2018 model camry has industry standard parts but my 2021 kia Forte does not. I am highly aggravated that I am stuck having to pay for a vehicle that has a higher likelihood of being stolen all because the company wanted to save a few dollars and not include immobilizers on their cars until the 2022 models. I am highly upset that kia, their reps, and dealers have displayed an abhorrent lack of concern in trying to fix this issue as this prevents me from having to go to important job sites for work. This issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2013 kia Forte. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, he depressed the accelerator pedal to change lanes and heard an abnormal knocking noise sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the knocking sound occurred whenever the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine rod bearings needed to be replaced. The contact was informed by the independent mechanic that the failure could be related to NHTSA campaign number: 21v259000 (engine). Additionally, the contact reported that he had also experienced failures with the loss of power steering functionality, but the failure was intermittent. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
Car shuts down while driving. Abs and traction control light comes on, cruise control shuts off, power steering light comes on and no power steering, screens and radio stop working, no a/c or heat, car finally completely shuts down.
On June 24, 2022 I was driving my vehicle on 435n to work. My steering wheel jerked to the left and started spinning out of control. I was driving at 60mph in the inside lane. When my steering jerked it caused me to turn headfirst into the inside wall. I proceeded to spin out of control across 3 lanes of rush hour traffic, clipping a second vehicle, before smashing into the outside wall and then resting in the outside lane horizontally. I was rushed to the emergency room where I suffered a broken back. Upon looking at the recalls and safety issues with my vehicle there was a recall #17v773000 for the brake pedal stopper; a most recent.
I went to friendly way motors sometime on April 28th for a 2011 kia Forte, there I met salesperson jesse quijada whi showed me the vehicle, it were my first time dealing with a dealership I'm sure he were aware, I then went on to have him jump it so I could go on a test drive, when then I noticed a whistling sound but jesse used his kinda old obd or obm meter to check and stated there may be nothing to it, so I listened to his expertise and later went on to purchase the vehicle through sylvania in the office with sam the owner I think, I kinda began to feel something was off when I had spent over $584. 44 on car insurance through jesse quijada with dairyland through the dealership, but I assumed that's the way things are since they concluded it were due to inflation, we went through some papers concerning my contract which a few papers I went through myself since sylvania suddenly got a call and then we resumed the papers, I left with the car felt sound at last, until not literally a couple weeks later I were experiencing a myriad of defects with the car, like it kept dying on me, kept making a myriad of distinct noises and mechanical malfunctions, all through which I contacted jesse to inspect and or fix until then when I were going to tampa the 2011 kia Forte then began to have powerstering issues, and brake issues, both of which I almost got in an accident over, a putrid powerful burning smell from the power steering resevoir, battery problems, key ignition cylinder getting stuck on me, all of my dash lights coming on with the engine sign constantly on, not to mention although I am paying more than I would normally pay for car insurance, I ran into a ditch off of 100 wolf pack run in deltona FL because of the powersteering, I had no road side assistance. The police department, fire department and school campus came and went with no help, I had to wait till morning for someone to get me out.

Steering coupler needed to be replaced. There have been warranty extensions for this part on several Hyundai cars as well as kia optima. Same issue as I experienced. No recall yet on my vehicle. Had to pay $500 to get replaced. Failure around 78,000 miles.
Ki aforte 2014 steering wheel has started making a noise while turning when stationary. As with kia soul and optima models of same vintage, steering coupler part needs to be replaced.
I have noticed recently that the car keeps all of a sudden pulling to the right and I have not had the lane assistance on since a week after I bought the car. It is at 4000 miles right now and this problem began at approximately 3000 miles. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but if it is just as if the lane assistance was turned on. I have also noticed that when I have my work bag which is approximately 40 pounds in my lunchbox in the front seat without the seatbelt connected the seatbelt warning does not come on like it did in my last car with the same items on the seat. Not sure if there is a different weight limit now but I figured I would add this in in case there isn’t.
The contact owns a 2014 kia Forte. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel made a knocking sound. The contact stated that the first time the failure occurred was in late September with the knocking sound only happening while turning either to the left or the right. The contact stated that recently the failure started occurring whenever the vehicle was being driven. The contact stated that the steering wheel was not secured and felt as if it was going to detach. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 52,177.
While coming to a stop, the passenger side front wheel locked up forcing the car into a sharp right had turn which put the car into a ditch, striking cement barrier at bottom of ditch. Car likely totalled.
My steering wheel feels loose and makes a noise when turning. Feels like I need to turn the steering wheel a bit before my tires start to turn and then it clicks again when my wheel goes back to neutral. This also has caused my cruise control and windshield wipers to stop working.
2014 kia Forte 1. 8l steering is very hard or stiff to rotate especially from right to left when driving at more than 20 mph rendering lane change on roads and expressways very dangerous, and simply maneuvering steering very difficult. It feels like steering is jamming or being stuck. Besides hear a click sound from the steering even when car is stationary. Started experiencing hard steering problem at the end of June 2021.
