The contact owns a 2005 kia Optima. The contact can no longer use the metal door key to open and lock the vehicle. The contact stated that the doors also will not open from the inside in a consistent manner. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer due to not being able to enter the vehicle for the past weeks. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
2005 kia Optima. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle door locks malfunction. The consumer stated when she unlocked the doors, they would automatically lock on their own. The consumer stated on one occasion, she was locked inside the vehicle for 10-15 minutes, before she was able to get the door unlocked.
Needed to replace door latch on driver's side. Door would not open from the inside. Air bag on passenger side will not deploy.
Reporting a failure in the door lock mechanism. The door lock will "unlock" when you push the button on the key fob, door panel or use the key to unlock the door. When you pull the handle to open the door, it locks the door preventing you from opening it. The driver is trapt in the car with the only option to exit from the passenger side. This would be a serious safety issue in the event of an accident or any other time you needed to evacuate the car quickly. In searching the internet there are numerous reports of this problem on kia vehicles.
