general problems of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima

The car shut off on me while driving.

The esc kight keeps turning on . The brake lights wont turn off, it wont let me accelerate while im driving at different speeds or it will decelerate abruptly. Yes its available for inspection. My safety and the safety of my two young children were at risk multiple times. This is my daily driver. And I was driving them to school when the car would not let me accelerate and someone almost hit me from the back. Also it happened to us on the freeway a few times as we are driving 65 mph the car decelerates abruptly almost causing major accidents while my children are in the vehicle with me. Not yet , I called the nearest kia dealer and they didnt have appointment LS until July - August. There were no warning lights at all. At first we didnt know what was the problem. After the few times it happened then the esc light turned on and it stays on. Also the brake light wont turn off even when the car is off.

After accelerating from a stop and releasing my foot from the gas petal the car will start to accelerate on its own and speed up.

Traction control is too sensative. I was in a stop sign. Then tried to press the acceleration but vehicle lost power. Too sensative traction control caused me to stall in the middle. There were car coming from the left or right to me. I am glad I was at safe distance and could regain control of the car.

I purchased my vechile Dec 28 2021, after driving it exactly one month, as I was driving on the high way my vechile shut off it was the scariest thing that has happened to me the car couldn't brake turn on nor accelerate I had to pull over on the break from being in the middle lane I had to be cautious due to vechile passing fast. Once the car stopped. Had to pay for towing due a state police showing up regardless if I had it on my insurance. I lost my good paying job due to this due to working 45 min away. I had my recall appointment for March 10th already scheduled before hand and my car was parked for a lil over a month then towed to the dealer. It's been 2 months and yet no vechile nor a temp vechile provided from the dealer told me there's nothing they can do. I called 3 days ago and they keep telling me nothing has been done yet anther month my vechile has to be there. It's crazy that the repairs has nothing to do with me nor my fault and I had to loose a 30 dollar paying job backed me up on rent car payment and everything else and still no consideration.

My 2013 kia Optima suddenly lost power when pulling out onto the highway. When diagnosed it says turbo boost position sensor circuit.

I left work one night and started fine and was driving normal for about 10-15 miles then every single light came on the dash board then couldn't accelerate anymore! it dropped in like 15mph increments until it finally rolled to a stop! I cut the car off and ever since it cut off it hasn't cut back on since me and cousin looked and seen no obvious problems but think the motor locked up completely!.

When I was driving all the lights came on on the dashboard and I couldn't accelerate at all then it cut off and haven't been able to jump it off or anything! we've looked to see if we could find out why but it's just died and I think the motor locked up!.

Car has a bad gas fume smell that comes through the vent when driving check engine light came on motor has a loud tapping noise and burns gas quick.

I have a kia 2013 optimum sxl, yesterday Aug 30 my kia out of nowhere check engine light came on then it proceeds to stop on the freeway in traffic!! while I'm going 65 now it won't start at all the check engine light come on but my engine knocks and then cuts off. Yes I did have oil in my car in fact it's on the full line so I don't understand wats going on the engine knocking really hard not leaks on my car at all even when I apply pressure to accelerate it stays on 0 then engine knocks agin and then back off I tried 3 times and had to ende up pushing my car out of traffic.

My car is getting a p2562 code which is for the turbocharger boost control position sensor. I'm having a significant decrease in engine power and fuel economy.

On may 10, 2020 @7:32 am I was driving home from work and came to a stop light when the light turned green my car stalled and all the lights on the dashboard turned on. I pulled over and started the back up and made it home. The next day I drove about 10 miles and the car seemed fine but as I get to the stop light the car started making a grinding sound like metal and I couldn't accelerate so I pulled over and the car died in a residential area. The next morning I call aaa and had car towed back to my home. The next day aaa came out again and checked my battery, starter, and system something and they were all working good. I called steve schmitt kia on halls ferry road and asked was there another recall on my car for the engine, the lady paused and then said "we don't have the parts yet, " she then said hold on and came back and said "we don't have any recalls on this car. On October the 1 , 2019 I took my car to kia for a recall on my motor and looking at the receipt they replaced element air filter, adjusted alignment four wheels, mount and balance 2 tires, replaced cabin air filter plus a oil change which I paid for. My car has been sitting since may 13, 2020 . I frequently go out and check it and it starts and I hear a knocking sound . ( engine fail).

I was on the expressway and went to move to the second lane it was fine except I my car began to stall and slow down making this grinding noise when I tried to gain speed. . . All the lights came on and I couldn't go faster than 30 miles per hour. All while incoming traffic was coming at me going about 60 miles per hour I had to gain composure. Put on my hazards and pull over. . . It wouldn't let me go above 20 when I pulled over. . . . I was freaking scared once I pulled over I was shaking and crying had to gain composure. . . I believe I caught this on my dash cam. I fucking hate this kia. . . It by grace my kids weren't in the car with me and that the van behind me switched lanes at the last second. . . . I have taken my kia 2 times to the kia repair dealership, the first one was free the second time I had to pay 145 just to be seen. Mind you I went to the kia repair dealership in berwyn and they say it's fine. . . . It's not fine that my car couldnt go above 30 miles on the express way, it's not fine that I was almost in a collision it's not fine. Kia will not repair these cars until someone dies. . . . I can't take this chance with my children. I will borrow my mom's Toyota until this problem is rectified. I am a single mom my kids only source of income and support I don't have time to be off from an injury that may occur or lack of reliable transportation. I will have to see if my dash cam caught the incident before my car shut off. . . I will send it later if it did.

I was driving on the highway around 70 mph, pressed the gas pedal and then the engine accelerated and then decelerated back to accelerating. By that time, the car lights on the dashboard turn on and the gas pedal would not accelerate the car anymore. The car slowly started decelerating on the highway, where I managed to get off of the highway into a dip on a big street. Had it towed because the car's engine would not start anymore, but the lights and radio inside would turn on. I saw other people online talking about the same problem and how there is a recall on certain vehicles, but when I searched up my car's VIN number, it doesn't appear to be on the recall list.

Recently I have been having issues with my vehicle it will cut off while driving the and I am unable to apply the brakes, just last night while driving the vehicle it stalled out and started going slowly I could not apply brakes to the car and it started smoking from the dash and the engine with no other current conditions I had to throw the car in park with out being able to use the brakes in order to stop the vehicle this almost caused an accident and almost cost me my life I noticed from other complaints others are having the same issues with no current solution or problem this is very weird.

On interstate 675 north-GA car stalled, lost power to the engine, eps light, check engine light, oil light came on on the instrument panel, no power steering. I had to cross two lanes of interstate traffic to try to make it safely to the shoulder. My car wouldn't turn over or start. I let the car sit for an hour and tried again to start it. I received no notice of any recalls from the dealer or the manufacturer. It was a dangerous situation to be in on the interstate or anywhere for that matter.

Intermittent stalling of vehicle upon slowing/stopping at redlights/stop signs in which engine begins losing power/gas either stalls as if it's trying to quit or car stalls & quits. This has happened numerous times, nearly causing accidents & increasing in frequency. I cannot see any leakage of fuel when looking however I am losing fuel somewhere because my gas mileage has greatly gotten worse & burning through it at a fast pace. I took it to kia dealership in salisbury nc today in which they upgraded computer software related to recall on 2. 4l gdi engine as I have a 2013 kia Optima. Mechanic states the engine test did pass but feels it will need to be replaced at some point?? mechanic said he didn't smell any gasoline but he did not test drive the car or run diagnostic test as he said I would have to pay the $129 fee. . . . . . I declined paying the fee and requested it be done as this is a well known problem but that was denied. I need this addressed and repaired. It is dangerous, costing me more money for gas & affecting my job. Please advise. . . . . . . This is not acceptable and should not place financial or safety burdens on owners as we already pay enough financing as well as regular/normal wear & tear expenses!! I'm still making payments on mine but becoming too difficult & dangerous to drive esp getting to work so I can support my family!!.

While I went on the highway the acceleration felt very sluggish and had a hard time speeding up to the speed limit. The car only got worse as I went on a street and it felt as though it did not want to go, like it lost most of its power. Turns out something is wrong with the engine but I feel that my car should be under a newer recall but isn�t, as smoke was coming out of the exhaust and the engine light wasn't even on. While most customers like my self have brough the car to our local dealership just for them to cliam the problem is normal. The part is 1600. 00 plus 900. 00 in labor. I was sitting in the yard at my aunts yard and the rpm's dropped while in park. I sat there for a few minutes to see if it would do it again, it didn't, so I left and headed home and got 5-7 miles down the road, and the car completely stalled and shut down, while I was going about 45-50 mph, and I had no control over the car. The brakes got hard, the steering was hard, and I was barely able to get out of the middle of a busy road with vehicles behind me. It wouldn't crank back up. I sat there waiting for someone to come to me to check it out, and I tried to start it back up and it did, so I went on home. I called kia and they said bring it in, I paid $100 to have it towed to the local kia dealership in lake city, FL. They checked it out and said it was nothing wrong gn with it. But I received a notice about a recall on the motor stating it would do what happened to me. Also, I checked online and typed my VIN number in and there was in fact an open recall for the motor I have for the issue I had. They refused to fix the recall. Advised me to wait for it to happen again, and I asked them, so you are telling me to drive this vehicle with this issue and wait for it to happen again and risk getting into an accident the answer I got was basically yes.

After coming to a complete stop at a stop sign, when I tried to accelerate to turn onto a busy road my car lost power halfway into the intersection. This has happened twice. Steering ,hard to keep in lanes,loud hard ride. While test driving my 2013 kia Optima I told my sales person that I was having trouble keeping keeping it on the road. He said that's b/c its a new car. It'll ease up. I thought it was loud & took smal bumps like a big pot holes. And the gas pedal & acceleration was wierd. He said bring it back & the service department will drive it & fix it. Don't worry. Well after several trips to the service department they said they could not emulate the problem. I asked them to let me drive with service person. Could not do. Break it in & it'll go away. Well at 11,000 miles took it back & complained . Same answer. Now 19,703 miles not only do I have the same problems . They got worse. In addition my paint scratches & chips so easy that there had to be something wrong with my paint. Back to service & body work they told me that was normal. Bring it in for detailing & we will get it looking like new! don't have $175. 00 to do that . I do not get close to quoted gas mileage. It has a mind of its own it accelerates & gears don't shift . It takes off or doesn't all by itself. Seems like transmission trouble. Its so loud I cannot use hands free phone & conversations are difficult. The steering is so off, I'm afraid I'll get pulled over & fined. Very hard to keep on road.
