1 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2020

I was driving down the street and my car started jerking, shaking and making noises. It was unsafe to drive home, so I pulled over and had the vehicle towed home.

2 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2020

While driving down the highway was traveling around 65 mph on dry street in the far left lane (fast lane), my car started making a sound like metal clicking and then car started smoking. My husband gets over to the side of road and the smoke goes from gray to black and when he lifted the hood up flames coming from rear and passenger side of engine! luckily someone pulled over and had fire extinguisher to put out fire. Fire and police both arrived on scene and reports made. Vehicle towed home; waiting to tow to dealer to find out cause of fire. Regular maintenance and upkeep on the vehicle and no lights or warnings just fire. Kia knows there is major problems with these engines and choose to only recall certain years when they basically know any vehicle between 2011 and 2018 can be affected. Don't know what the outcome will be but very upset that vehicle caught on fire and kia states since it's over 100,000 miles there's nothing they can do.

3 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2020

While driving on the expressway, the car made a noise and the gas wouldn't give the car power. I pulled over to the side and while doing so the car shut off. After having it towed to the mechanic they said it is a seized engine. This is the second kia that this has happened to!!.

4 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2020

I have a 2015 kia Optima. The engine has a delayed acceleration when taking off. Makes a strange noise when turning. Smells like it is burning oil after driving a short period of time and there is an excessive need to replenish the engine oil. Oil is extremely dark. Sometimes there is white smoke coming from the exhaust. Hard to accelerate on the freeway at times.

5 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2019

Nearing 60,000 miles, the car started to make a weird engine noise. The kia dealership found that the connecting rod was bad and the engine needed replaced. This issue is very well know and widespread. The kia dealership informed me that the engine could catch fire, should the engine blow. The dealership felt that it was a manufacture issue but kia corp. Declined to replace the engine, which is the only option available to repair the issue. The reason given was that the oil was not at the recommend level. I had the oil changed last summer and there was no indication that the oil was low; no service light or oil level light. To avoid putting my 6yr. Old at risk, I had to choose to pay $5500 to have the engine replaced. This is a large amount of money that effects my child's day-to-day. I have also come to learn that the engine installed is re-manufactured and only has a 12-month warranty. Despite kia's reasoning, this issue seems to be far too common for Hyundai/kia owners, plus they have already issued a recall for older models with the same engine. At the very least, the re-manufactured engines should carry a longer warranty.

6 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2018

This has been a great car until suddenly I saw smoke. Checked my oil & it was low. I added oil. I began to hear rattling in the engine and huge white puffs of smoke emit from my engine, so bad that cars behind me on the freeway (all 4 lanes) hit their brakes as they cannot see. The 101 freeway during rush hour - this is very bad and could get someone killed, including me if my engine seizes at 75 mph. I check my oil every other day or so and seems to be low once a week. I've been waiting to drop my car at my mechanic. When I got there he said he could not touch my car due to the same exact reason for over 1. 2 million recalled engines. I went to brake masters down the road asking if they know anything about this and they said "absolutely!" they told me do not do an oil change as many people's engine seizes within a day or several days after an oil change. Dealers consistently tell people their engine has "sludge" in it. Really? I have read so many reviews of the same diagnosis. Telling people it is $6,000-$8,000 for a new engine at their cost. Both my mechanic and brake masters told me that they feel the only reason my engine has not seized on me is because I took notice that my engine sounded slightly different. Not one time has a light gone off on my car. There is no reason why a dash warning light does not go off while loosing power and burning oil so bad that people cannot see. So, we have two issues. . . . . #1 obvious failure of dash warning/engine warning lights and #2 the burning oil, metal shards ruining my engine. I am a single mom and do not get child support. I don't have a savings account and could not afford to replace an engine. I am very good with my vehicles and what I am reading is unacceptable. So many people are paying for new engines and I will not be one of them. Please help me as this engine issue is not a lack of care.

7 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2018

I noticed that while driving my car it would first make a noise and then right after it would stall and sputter/ jerking like it wants to cut off. I took my car to a kia dealership first in alexandria,va where they only did my oil change and nothing else because they said that it would take a while for them to look at my car and they didn't have a loaner for me, so I then took my car to the falls church, va location and I explained to them what was happening with my car and for about six months I was bringing my car back and forth there for oil changes because they wanted to see if it would still have the same issues and no matter how many oil changes they done my car would still do the same thing. My car was close to the maximum miles for where it would still be covered under my warranty to get fixed and I told them that I wanted to get the issue fixed before my warrant runs out. So finally they keep my car sitting in the shop for 1 month without anyone looking at it and come to find out the guy that was going to be working on my car no longer works there, I would call them to check on the status of my car and most times I could never reach anyone and they didn't call me to keep me up to date on the progress, so after about 1 1/2 month they call me and tell me that they can not fix my car due to lack of maintenance and up keep by me and even though it's covered under warranty, my car only had 57,000 miles on it and it will cost me $5000 + to get my car fixed. I'm still driving my car and still having the same issues, I'm very upset because it's like kia doesn't even care and seems like the people at the dealership wanted me to keep coming back and forth so that I can get close to the miles to where it wouldn't be under warranty so they wouldn't have to fix it. My car isn't fixed and I don't have the money to get it fixed, I'm hoping for a miracle.

8 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2016

Engine light came on, then the oil light. I stopped to check oil. There was no oil on the dipstick. I checked for leaks. Found none. I added 2 quarts. The engine was knocking. I took it to the dealership. My car was under warranty. But wouldn't replace it. It would cost me $7200. So I tried to drive it home, and it quit. The engine shut down. I had to have it towed home. This was in November 2016. And it is still down. Then I heard kia is getting a class action lawsuit against them, for oil flow issues. I'm still paying on the car. I financed through my credit union. So they already got there money. I think that is why they are screwing me over. To be clear I had just left the dealership when it quit. It never made a sound, the dealership had it 3 days.
