Automatic Emergency Braking Problems of Kia Motor Optima

Brake pedal loses pressure and disengages with brakes. Traction light, maintenance light, hybrid system warning message, check brakes message and parking brake intermittently turns on and off. I called kirby kia of ventura a few weeks ago and let them know about my issue with the car. I explained that I took the car to a mechanic and the diagnostic they did stated the issue with the car could be because of one of the recalls. On 4/10/26 I took my vehicle to kirby kia of ventura for the recalls and asked if they could do the diagnostic. Raul from kia was the service rep that spoke with me. He stated they would do the recalls and then, if needed, they would perform the diagnostic. Later that day raul called me and stated the recalls were completed and no issues were found. Several items were found from kia's point inspection, but none related to the issue at hand. I then asked raul if they could perform the diagnostic to know what was wrong with my car and he stated that they could do the diagnostic on Monday, 4/13/26. Raul stated he would give me a call around 10 to 11 am, to discuss any issues. Raul called at 10:49 am, and stated no lights on the dashboard have come on and he didn't want to do the diagnostic because the lights weren't on. Kirby kia of ventura service department are crooks and only want to assist you if they get money out of you. My car still has the same issue, possibly damage to the hecu from the recall, but kirby kia didn't want to run the diagnostic on my car to find out if it was damaged. Kirby kia of ventura is a horrible organization and I will never purchase another kia vehicle for this reason.

Vehicle went into emergency mode while in the highway system completely locked could not drive lost power and was forced to pull over and have vehicle towed, mechanic took a look indicated new alternator was required there for we purchased new alternator and new battery car turned on and same issue happened with in 20 minutes of test driving vehicle, this happened twice and could have cost our life’s! I am extremely disappointed and frustrated I have no means to fix the vehicle we used out saving to finally replace what we though was the issue but I’ve come across many same issues from other parties who experienced the same issue. The vehicle is paid off and we need assistance in fixing this issue it appears the engine or electrical issue at this point but I am scared to get on the road we have tried charging it back on but steering wheels locks up and dies a few minutes after please help.

The contact owns a 2016 kia Optima. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the traction control, forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, and auto high-beam warning lights were illuminated. The contact also stated that the four windows failed to function as needed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 156,000.

There is an hybrid warning coming on which causes the brakes to loose it’s ability to stop for some reason. It also slows the car to a hault while the engine is in full rev. It’s a huge safety issue as this occurs intermittently with no warning. Last time I was on the freeway, luckily I was able to pull over to the curb without incident. I hit the bumper a little bit but was able to stop safely.

On may 11, 2024, we took our 2015 kia Optima to hutchinson kia service center 3931 river pl, macon, GA. Due to brakes not working. When you apply brakes the vehicle would not stopped you would have to apply the emergency brakes for a complete stop. On that day, I was told no one was there to check my brakes due it was a Saturday and would need to schedule another appointment when they could do a brake diagnostic. The next appointment was June 4,2024, on that day we had the vehicle towed due to brakes. Today is September 2, 2024 and our vehicle is still there. On July 12, 2024, we were contacted staying vehicle was repaired and the problem wa a pin hole in the right brake line. We picked up the vehicle proceeded home at the first traffic stop same problem happen with the brakes. We returned immediately back to kia service center, explaining the same problem still exists. After vehicle being there for 2 more weeks, nick with kia hutchinson kia called stated there was a problem with abs system and vehicle would be ready on August 21,2024. Well the still have my vehicle and no updates. When you call they put on hold and never comeback. If you go over the service manager is always out and no one can give you and update.

- the issue occurred for the first time 4/30/2024 - the following 3 warning lights appeared while I was driving: abs, traction control, and brake - I took the vehicle immediately to a facility to have the warning codes read. The printout showed: c2402 & c2380 - the warning lights remain illuminated every time the vehicle is turned on - I believe there is a safety concern of a potential fire or brake failure.

I've been having an issue with my car just out of the blue breaking while I'm going into it seems to be only a left turn I had let kia know about this when I took it in for the other recalls just recently nobody seemed to have any idea of what was going on or look at me like I was crazy I guess and now I see this recall that explains everything to a tee of what my car is doing I need somebody to contact me please. This has almost gotten me into serious accidents on more than one occasion.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that an unknown sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.

Engine needed to be replaced as part of the recall for knock, however they said because the repair was done on a subsequent work order and the first one was for a failed aeb module that none of the repairs are covered. I'm out over $13,000 for what should have been warrantied.

I have a 2013kia Optima sx 2. 0 turbo my engine need to b replace I never had it replace I have engine problems white smoke n black smoke come out of my hood smoke like it's going to burn up I always have to turn off my car every 15 minutes of driving it overhead n smoke start coming out I been dealing with this for 2 years now can I get a new engine replace.

After driving the car over 15 miles, the check brake light comes on, activating my emergency brake, slowing the car down and preventing me to accelerate. This happens on the freeway, where traffic is fast and my decelerating car puts me and those around me at risk of collision. Once it occurs the first time, it happens again a few minutes later. I have to frequently veer off the side of the freeway, turn off the car, and then turn it on again for the check brake light to go away and for me to travel once more. This has been a problem for a couple of years with me trying to get the issue repaired, and documented in my visits. Kia and other service operatives have repeatedly not been able to replicate the error in their care, however they never drive it long enough for it to occur. I’ve spent a lot of money now trying to fix this problem and have videos and photos of it occurring. The last time it was inspected they only drove it 6 miles and said there were a lot of little codes going off but weren’t again able to replicate the problem I had been describing. It first appeared 2 years ago and I can feel it start to come on when I’m not able to accelerate my car any further like there is an added resistance. This then amounts to the check brakes display to appear with the emergency brake icon always accompanying it. It makes a scraping, gargled sounds and slows down the car. Overall it has affected the overall drive of the car and braking system as it is growing harder to stop the car when driving. The brakes have been repeatedly checked as well as the fluid and it’s normal, so it should be braking normally. This car has had other issues in the past that have been fixed but this has continued and has been a growing issue that is not being resolved. I’ve googled this issue with others expressing the same issue without any viable solution from kia so I know I’m not alone in this. It’s not safe to drive. Also I tried uploading the videos but it only allowed the pictures.

Abs module is faulty. Confirmed by professional auto shops and it’s a safety risk. Without this working properly, my car refuses to brake sometimes. Will not automatically stop when it needs to due to the spongy, unresponsive brake pedal. Kia / Hyundai have known about this for years and continues to sell these vehicles that will kill myself or someone else on the road.

Forward collision avoidance system activated with no vehicle stopped in front. Brakes locked up multiple times and then unlocked.

The kia Optima 2020 2. 4 every 3000 to 4000 miles oil change is metal shavings in the old oil. The clicking noise stared it around the 10000 miles mark and now is getting worse with 60000 miles ,everytime I hit the gas and goes over 30 miles loose a lot of power and a clicking noise come out ,now is getting worse. Is a new car. Already change a abs pump and I keep my oil change to the date. I m afraid the car is breaking . Help.

I was driving and tried to brake but my car did not stop and ended up hitting guardrail. A couple weeks later I was driving and there was nothing in front of me but the car abruptly stopped in the middle of road.

Abs light came on for no apparent reason and took car to kia dealership and was told it needs abs issue: “your car is going to need an abs actuator, this controls how the abs modulates the brakes when under dangerous braking conditions so that your brakes don't lock up. . $2676. 56 just for that repair if you'd like us to replace it” and I searched online and do see that some 2019 kia models had a recall for this very issue, but my VIN is not showing up as affected. The lights came on about 6 mos ago, cleared and then came back on again. Car is at moritz kia in fw, TX right now.

Vehicle dash warning light started flashing and told me to turn off vehicle. There were no shoulders on the road where I was. I smelled a burning smell (like a belt -not brakes). I stopped and turned the car off. Very dangerous!!! not impressed that the dealership or manufacturer allowed this vehicle to be re-sold! I turned the vehicle into the service department. Do not want this vehicle back! lemons should not be on the road!!!.

Dean mckrary kia had my car from November to December 12, 2021 with the agreement to repair all existing service recalls. There yet remain service recall 21v331. The agreement with the service manager that all recalls issued would be repaired. They did not keep their word.

Out of no where the front collision avoidance assist came on while driving as well as the automatic emergency braking sensor came on I had my kids in the car no accident or anything.

I received a safety recall notice dated 7/5/2021. When I contacted the dealership, the next available appointment was December 6, 2021. Because of the seriousness of this recall, I feel I should be given a service appointment sooner than December 2021.

My car had started acting weird about 5 months after I got it, I believe Jan 2020. Only had it till Jan 2021 and they said my engine barrings broke and it was going to cost me 10000. I didn’t have it. I was never informed about the recall. It messed up my whole credit and I still have not been able to get a car since. I moved and I was just now able to get the mail!.

Tl- the contact owned a 2019 kia Optima. The contact stated that while upon making a left turn at 20 mph, the automatic emergency braking system independently activated and abruptly stopped without warning. Due to the failure, the vehicle behind him hit him from behind which pushed his vehicle into a 270 degree angle. The contact stated that the passenger side airbags deployed; however, his driver side airbags did not. The contact stated that he had hit his head on the driver side visor; however, he did not seek medical attention for the injury. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was totaled as a result of the accident and was towed to his insurance company's collision center. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had been destroyed. The failure mileage was approximately less than 200. The VIN was not available. Jo.
