The car is experiencing the same problem reported on technical service bulletin sa187 (blind spot detection (bsd) system logic improvement (sa 187)) but kia states my VIN number is not listed under the service bulletin and therefore I have to pay $189 to get a software upgrade done. The "check bsd system" illuminated in the instrument cluster has been cleared twice by my mechanic and still comes back after a few days. To me this issue should have been made a recall because of its criticality. . . The bsd system is a core safety feature of cars and reduces accidents substantially. There was no way for me to know my car has this problem unless it is made a recall. I have not had any accident related to this issue but I had to pick an incident date to complete this complaint. I have called kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 twice to find out whether the VIN number should be included in the service bulletin and the answer was no and whether I should report this to NHTSA with the possibility that certain VIN numbers were left out of the service bulletin in error. No answer as to what to do to investigate this was given by kia. That's why I'm reporting this on here. The service bulletin has been attached to this complaint. My question to NHTSA is whether certain vehicles were left out of the service bulletin in error and whether the manufacturer is liable for the repair at no cost to the consumer. If NHTSA finds out the manufacturer is liable will you notify them to pay on a case per case basis or will you make this service bulletin a recall? again this is safety hazard that can cause crashes and accidents. On or about 13 may 2024 my family and I traveling. During the travel the vehicle displayed “hybrid system stop and do not drive”. We took it in to kia during the time that they had the vehicle, they informed us that it needed an ecu update (recall). When services were finished, we picked up the vehicle and was made to pay for services that were part of the recall. When we left the dealership, the lights on the dashboard appeared 1. Engine, 2. Hev. We called the dealership back and informed them what happened. They told us to take the vehicle back to them. After checking it, they informed us that due to the update that was done to the vehicle it triggered faults in the battery. They informed us we would have to replace the hybrid battery that would cost us about $13,000. We stated to them our vehicle wasn’t having battery issues when we initially turned the vehicle in for service. They refused to assist and stated it wasn’t there responsibility even though it was given to us with these faults. We left the dealership and after driving for a few minutes, the warning sign came on and the car began to smell like smoke. I contacted kia corporate and informed them that the vehicle displayed a message on the dashboard and smoke. The gentleman I spoke to informed me not to drive the vehicle and park it away from other vehicles and to get the vehicle to kia to check services. We took it to a different kia for services. They informed us that the hybrid battery needed to be replaced and the cost. I explained to them the recall issue and that the vehicle was given to us with the issues that started to occur after the update. They said it wasn’t their responsibility and that they weren’t going to fix the damages or issues that were caused by another dealership. I called kia corporate and informed them of the situation and how the dealership refused to make repairs although they knew the hybrid battery issues were triggered from the recall updates/repairs.
I purchased my 2018 kia Optima directly from the dealership, brand new. I've had the vehicle since then and have followed all of the warranty guidelines and only went to them for oil changes & other maintenance issues. Since February 2023 I've noticed where I've been having oil loss, but no sign of an oil leak. When I first noticed this, I would take a turn and my oil light would come on. I'd check the oil and it'd be low so I would refill my oil. However, this was happening 2 months after my last oil change which wasn't normal. I took the vehicle to kia and they did an "engine consumption test" where I had to drive for 1000 miles with a seal on the drain plug. After the 1000 miles, I came back and I was only 1/2 quart low. According to kia it didn't meet the guidelines for engine replacement so they topped off my oil and I left. About 2 weeks after, my oil light came back on. I went back to kia and spoke with the shop manager who stated I was 3 1/2 quarts low! he added oil to my engine and we did another round of the consumption test. When I came back in after that, I was 2 quarts low so that meant I qualified for a "consumption cleaning". They kept my vehicle overnight & I had to drive another 1000 miles. When I came in after my 1000 miles again I was only 1/2 quart low and therefore kia said there wasn't an issue. I've reached out to multiple auto repair shops who state it is a kia problem, that the engine is using it and processing it out of the exhaust. I don't know what else I have to do in order for kia to honor the 20 year, 200k warranty. I have all documentation for all of my oil changes and from the consumption tests also.

On March 2022 forward collision warning system, blind spot warning system, abs braking system and other systems associated with a bad passenger rear wheel sensor not working. On March 17, 2022 rear passenger wheel sensor repaired under warranty by local kia dealer. In September 2023 same issue with the above warning systems occurs with only another 2,000 miles on car after previous repair. Local kia dealer states both rear wheel sensors need to be replaced. Kia dealer states vehicle is no longer under warranty and will cost in excess of $800 to repair. After checking similar complaints online, I believe there is an inherit defect with this type of vehicle's wheel sensors and a recall is needed to enforce kia to stand by their product and ensure the safety of the vehicle and their customers.

My complaint is regarding the rear windshield, which came with the vehicle when I purchased it new in 2016 from a kia dealership (santa fe kia, santa fe, new mexico). The Optima has never been in an accident. Over the last several years, the rear windshield has become increasingly blurry making it difficult to see traffic behind me. This situation is worse particularly at night. The blurriness is both from the outside looking in and inside looking out. I have called several kia dealers and they claim that they are not aware of the problem, and have told me that the windshield is not warranted.
Ecm telling fuel pump to put too much gas, causing exhaust into cabin, unnoticed while in car, but hair and cloth reak of exhaust and getting headaches. Reduced mileage by 20+mpg from 30+ to 11mpg. Bsd- no lights or codes thrown by 3rd party, but dealer said there was a code on the bsd. Bsd was not working and no codes appeared. No lights or codes for fuel issue or bsd, but dealer said there is a recall that I cannot find for fuel and said there was a code for bsd, but it didn’t pop up on my husband’s code reader previously.
Engine failure after ksds in March 2022 update error code p1326 (2 times in may and June 2022), bsds error with hev warning light shut off engine to prevent damage. Engine burned 2. 5 quarts of oil in 3 weeks and 1500 miles. Vehicle went into “limp mode” or “safe mode” to prevent further damage. Engine failure at 102k miles. Error is currently being added by kia north austin. Kia reproduced the error p1326.

Engine overhead and stopped working in addition to it consuming massive amounts of oil without physically putting oil in. I've went to 2 dealerships who refuse to provide me with a new engine even though I'm covered under the engine extension warranty due to me having the knock sensor update done. I am now involving my attorney and will go to the news channels to inform how kia manufacturer has become a disgrace with not providing quality engines in their vehicles and don't want to be responsible for it. There's already a settlement going on for kia Optimas and other cars they've made because of faulty engines. They can better believe I'm coming for them next with a lawsuit.
Kia said they fixed recall on my car and lights are still on and I hydroplane and totaled my car.
Air bag light came on after I also began having issues with blind spot detection warning lights. Abs lights on as well. Took vehicle to kia dealer in gainesville GA and they told me it was the left rear wheel sensor. Wanted $800 to repair ( no longer under warranty). Took vehicle to my mechanic, who ordered the part and replaced sensor. Abs lights & bsd lights went off for almost 2 weeks, then came back on. Air bag light has not gone off.
