The contact owned a 2013 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front end of the vehicle caught fire. The contact was informed by another driver that the fire originated near the front driver’s side wheel area. The fire was extinguished by the local fire department, and a police report was filed. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 144,000.

Wheel problem #4

On may 11, 2024, we took our 2015 kia Optima to hutchinson kia service center 3931 river pl, macon, GA. Due to brakes not working. When you apply brakes the vehicle would not stopped you would have to apply the emergency brakes for a complete stop. On that day, I was told no one was there to check my brakes due it was a Saturday and would need to schedule another appointment when they could do a brake diagnostic. The next appointment was June 4,2024, on that day we had the vehicle towed due to brakes. Today is September 2, 2024 and our vehicle is still there. On July 12, 2024, we were contacted staying vehicle was repaired and the problem wa a pin hole in the right brake line. We picked up the vehicle proceeded home at the first traffic stop same problem happen with the brakes. We returned immediately back to kia service center, explaining the same problem still exists. After vehicle being there for 2 more weeks, nick with kia hutchinson kia called stated there was a problem with abs system and vehicle would be ready on August 21,2024. Well the still have my vehicle and no updates. When you call they put on hold and never comeback. If you go over the service manager is always out and no one can give you and update.

Wheel problem #6

Dear national highway traffic safety administration, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding numerous premature defects in my 2019 kia Optima, which have led to serious safety hazards and compromised driving conditions. Firstly, the premature valve cover gasket leaking has resulted in dangerous fumes infiltrating the cabin, posing a significant risk to my health and safety as well as that of any passengers. This issue has not only caused discomfort but also raised concerns about potential long-term health effects. Additionally, the premature turbo gasket leaking is a further cause for alarm. Not only does this compromise the vehicle's performance and efficiency, but it also presents a potential fire hazard, particularly if the leaking oil comes into contact with hot engine components. Furthermore, the premature defect of the axle shafts and axle boots is a critical safety issue. This compromises the vehicle's stability and handling, increasing the risk of accidents and potential loss of control while driving. Moreover, the premature engine knocking and abnormal shaking and lag are indicative of underlying mechanical issues that significantly impact the vehicle's drivability and safety. Engine knocking can be a precursor to more severe internal damage, while abnormal shaking and lag compromise the vehicle's responsiveness, especially in critical situations such as merging onto highways or overtaking. These issues collectively present a clear pattern of premature defects that pose significant safety risks to both myself and other road users. As such, I urge you to investigate these matters thoroughly and take appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of kia Optima owners. I look forward to your prompt attention to this matter and a swift resolution to address these critical safety concerns.

Wheel problem #7

We have had two motor replacements in less than 6 months that we have owned this vehicle for the first one started started a knocking noise right after a flashing check engine light both kia is by us totus will we can't get it in today wouldn't give us a rental and was going to charge us for a diagnostics fee right up front and told us it would still be a few days before they could get it in so we had no choice but to continue driving it not even 2 days later left my fiance on the side of the road wouldn't start wouldn't do nothing engine seized kia dealer number one put the motor put it back together wrong and then when it seized again in less than 5,000 mi try telling us that they weren't responsible well if we did the engine again give it back to us notice that the ignition coils were not put on properly and orbital down properly you're still an electrical issue and the engines are starting to do the engine is starting to do the same as engine one and two. What I don't understand is why don't kia just completely recall the entire car and take it off to fucking market and replace the people replace the cars that have that still have people owning them.

Wheel problem #8

Dear national highway transportation safety administration, I am writing to bring to your attention a grave safety concern regarding my 2019 kia Optima sx. Despite diligent maintenance and care, my vehicle has experienced persistent alignment issues, particularly on the right side. Additionally, I have encountered premature axle shaft and axle boot failures, all of which have occurred well before reaching 60,000 miles. These issues have not only posed a significant financial burden but have also jeopardized the safety of myself and other road users. The repeated alignment problems have resulted in the rapid deterioration of tires, leading to baldness within a month of replacement, creating a hazardous driving condition and increasing the risk of accidents. The premature failure of axle shafts and boots is unacceptable for a vehicle of this age and mileage. Such failures not only compromise the vehicle’s performance but also raise serious concerns about the overall quality and safety standards of the kia Optima sx. I urge the national highway transportation safety administration to conduct a thorough investigation into these recurring issues affecting the 2019 kia Optima sx model. Immediate action is necessary to ensure the safety of consumers and to hold kia accountable for any design or manufacturing defects contributing to these alarming problems. Your swift attention to this matter is crucial in preventing potential accidents and ensuring the well-being of motorists nationwide.

Wheel problem #9

Unknown.

Wheel problem #10

The wheel fell off when I was driving the key axle completely broke the pipe off but I still don’t have it fixed I only had liability.

Wheel problem #11

My steering wheel will randomly lock in the middle of road while driving. I have to forcefully turn wheel to be able to pull of off the road meanwhile the there is on coming traffic. I have been told my car is having misfire and an engine knock code p1326 I have also got other codes and was told it could be a factory malfunction.

Wheel problem #12

I just think theres some sort of a tech issue with my electronic dashboard. My passenger seatbelt sign goes on and beeps incessantly when there is no passenger in the seat. My caution alert button comes on saying I have low tire pressure when it’s only one number less than all the other tires. My oil change reminder never comes on. Today I was driving normally and the car in front of me barely tapped their breaks (and I was not close to them at all) and the collision alert started beeping. My car randomly gets cold and the ac smells like it’s on, but it’s not (the button isn't lit nor did I turn it on) it normally doesn’t allow me to turn the outside air button on/off. Like in the winter when it’s freezing outside and I wasn’t to press the button to only circulate the inside air in the car, it doesn’t allow me and I have to freeze and be uncomfortable in my own car.

Wheel problem #13

I was getting into traffic and felt like power steering went on left turn took to kia repair shop on 5/26 received call on 6/7 that repairs had been made costing $938. 03 same problem next day took car back 6/11 received message that car is repaired on 6/25 at no cost picked up drove about 5 miles any took right turn to come home same it happened again they now have the car in the shop.

Wheel problem #14

2 flat tires getting off work.

Wheel problem #15

Within a week both front and rear passenger wheel speed sensors failed. Resulting in a prompt on dash at start up and consistently displayed for aeb system service after vehicles automatic system scan an see difference in mileage in attached pictures. Kia technician said it is a common issue and sees atleast 4-5 vehicles per week with this part failure.

Wheel problem #16

We were traveling at around 55-60 miles an hour and were t-bones by a chevy avalanche on the passenger side of the vehicle. I was in the front passenger seat and my husband swerved so the truck luckily started at my door and completely ripped and smashed in the back passenger door and back/ trunk of our Optima. Back wheel is completely turned out. Hit so hard it completely turned us in 2 circles and busted my front license plate and it hit absolutely nothing. I busted my head open and received 3 staples and knee shoved in dash but not 1 air bag in this vehicle deployed!! I have always owned a kia!! I will no longer purchase a kia because I do not feel safe!!.

Wheel problem #17

Turner kia diagnosis my vehicle of overheating condition revealed combustion gasses getting into coolant. Internal issue allowing combustion pressure to get into cooling system which is hampering cooling efficiency as well as causing areaction off coolant. When I drove the car half way on the highway it started to smoke after I just got it back from turner kia after fixing what they said was the problem after that I took it back to turner kia and they diagnosis it as needing a new engine.

Wheel problem #18

I was on a curvy back road doing about 45mph applying the breaks not to stop but only to break my speed down some in order to go around the curve. While doing so my steering wheel locks up, it feel as if my tires are sliding & it feels like my breaks could be locked up as well. The next day I was getting off of the interstate on a ramp and again applied my brakes to break my speed down and the exact same thing happen. My wheel locked up, felt as if my brakes were locked up as well & my tires may have slid. I'm not noticing of my car is shutting off because when it is happening I'm too focused on the road & not losing control. But I am noticing that my radio is booting up. Which it only does this when I start up my engine.

Wheel problem #19

When I am driving more than 65 mph, my steering wheel shakes for 3 seconds, stops, and then continues until I go under 65 mph. When I drive over a bump or object, it shakes as well. There is a loud clicking when turn the wheel left or right.

Wheel problem #20

I purchased my car in bellevue ne I tried taking it back within the first week. They told me everything was fine and sent me to edwards kia in council bluffs IA. My brakes and rotors were horrible and needed to be replaced they in ne said they were completely fine. It cost $600 to repair. The bellevue manager asked me what I expected him to do about it. They let me leave the lot without inspection my car. Then I had a motor recall my engine light was flashing and it wouldn't accelerate this has now happened 3 times in the last 30 days. Edwards kia in council bluffs currently have had my car for 2 weeks and tell me that it could be an additional 6 weeks before I get it retired to me.

Wheel problem #21

When I'm driving at any speed and on any surface driving over the slightest bump the steering wheel makes a clanking sound also the car is pulling to the right my front tires are wearing out on the upperoutside of the tire the part of tire that touches the road . I have looked on web to see if anyone else has had a issue with this what I found was that it may be the steering coupler. It's getting worse I'm afraid it's not going to turn one of these days because of whats going on.

Wheel problem #22

I'll start with the windows. Prior to covid my right rear passenger window motor and regulator went out. Citrus kia fixed it. Right after covid was announced my front right passenger window went out and I couldnt get my car in. 2 weeks later my front left driver window went out. When I finally got my car in they told me I was 200 miles over on my warranty to fix it. I havent had the use of either of my front windows for months. They dropped randomly going down the road. If I dont leave something wedged in the window they drop so far I have to use duct tape to adhere to it and pull up enough to grab it. Its definitely a safety issue that I cannot use my windows. And I dont know what is going on with the drive train , axle and suspension but I am eating through brand new tires every couple months. The dealership blamed it on me and seriously asked me if I was jumping curbs. I have had so many issues with this car since the motor got replaced. Not to mention my heat doesnt work unless its in defrost mode. The dealership knows about all these ongoing issues. Karen is my service advisor. I even tried to trade my car in with them and they turned it down. This car is falling apart and I am only one month away from having it for 4 years. I am the only owner it has had.

Wheel problem #23

I was driving approx 5-8mph with 2 kids, pulling into library parking lot. Next thing I know I hear a loud thump and feel my tire gone flat. After pulling into the first parking spot I get out and smell rubber. My front passenger tire had popped. I looked in the driveway area where I pulled in and didn't see any nails or road hazards that may have caused this pop. This tire is practically new. I purchased based solely on this tire's advertisement of approx 60,000 mile life (or 6 years). This tire has only gone a total of just under 27,000 miles in 1. 5 years. The other tire (same brand, same day purchased) seems fine. There is still a lot of tread left. The pop came from the side wall. The conditions were dry and sunny.

Wheel problem #24

I was driving on a highway and started to hear an noise from the front right while I was on a road trip. Had been driving for about 45 miles and moved over one lane to the right and front right tire blew - had less than 16,000 miles on car. I got the tire replaced at a kia dealership and wheels aligned. Then, driving on a main road, 45 mph a few weeks later, got to a passing zone, and passed the car in front of me after accelerating to 65 during the short passing zone. After passing the car I tapped the breaks to slow back down to 45 and the traction, brake, and tmz lights all came on. When brake engaged, car did not brake as normal and a odd noise like a grinding sound could be heard coming from the front right wheel area. Took the car into dealership, they ran diagnostics, said it was a miss-tripped sensor and clearing it corrected the issue. I drove my car less than 5 miles down the road and engaged the brake on a 40 mph road at a stop light, all three lights came right back on. Had to call and take car back in and they ended up keeping my car several days before saying I had a bad tire sensor, but car was safe to drive. Drove again, to a neighboring city and had been driving about 40 miles and front left tire blew. Got it towed back to the dealership, who said tires blowing had nothing to do with censor. Got tire changed and rotation. Picked up car and tire pressure light came on -low pressure. Nitro was added by dealership and light went off. Turned my pressure reader on and 2 miles down the road the car went from 37 to 45 psi. I think bad sensor is causing over inflating of tires at the dealership leading to blown tires. Tested pressure with separate pressure reader and too high so let some air out, drove down a highway at 50 mph and car bottomed out on a rolling dip in the road scrapping the plastic protection piece behind the front right tire under the car.

Wheel problem #25

Steering wheel slips while turning left or right.

Wheel problem #26

Over a weeks time,I noticed my steering wheel was turned like maybe I needed an alignment and it started pulling to the left so bad that I had to force the steering wheel to the right so I wouldn't wreck into the median on the interstate. I could only go about 45 or 50 mph or it would start shaking the entire car and was absolutely impossible to control it on the road. Had it looked at and at the bottom control arm that bolts to the subframe had rusted out and the right side was on the verge of doing the same! the FL and fr tires, that I had gotten brand new 5 months ago, were wore down to the wire!!! I'm surprised I had the chance to get it home and get it looked at before it rusted all the way through! I was so blessed I didnt have a horrible accident.

Wheel problem #27

My car keeps having some kind of an electrical glitch where it seems my battery is dead completely wipes the memory from the car then it'll start 1 minute later, tires keep getting eating from the inside just above the rim, motor has been making a ticking noise since I got the car it was looked at as one of the recalls and said it was fine, I feel this car is unsafe for me and my family, the has even shut off as I was driving down the road acted like it was the battery was dead and it started a couple minutes later.

Wheel problem #28

Will produce photo from body shop when called.

Wheel problem #29

I rented a vehicle from fair/uber under a California promotion. In the understanding the vehicle was uber ready. Three weeks into using the car squeezing brakes let me to the authorised shop for maintanence. It was inspected and what was found made this vehicle unsafe. I could not use it for its purpose. To drive it for uber. I have snap shots of the condition of the brakes and rotors. The shocks or struts are also shot and the coolant resivior was close to empty. The two front tires also were recomended to be replaced as they were cupping. This vehicle had not been inspected prior to there releasing it to me for any safety issues prior and when the invoice was sent to donlen, 3 times, which took a whole day, was fully denied. Refusal to correct this safety issue. This car is still in this condition. It was removed from pep boys on mission george by myself. The next day at 5:06 pm I received an email from fair suggesting I take it to another approved shop. I realised that this was not my duty or my problem. I could just return the vehicle. I was I am done with this company. It was going to be a 3 day job in the shop. And fair told me repeatedly that they had no ability to prevent me from having to pay for the week it was disabled. Obsurd. I'll attach specs and pics. Thank you.

Wheel problem #30

Oh rear lower swing arm supporting the spring broke letting the spring come out of position and letting the wheel tilt as if flat. The lower arm had rusted in two allowing this to happen.

Wheel problem #31

All the paint on the outside of my 2013 kia Optima is bubbling and peeling off the chrome on my wheels is chipping and coming off.

Wheel problem #32

Was at light then proceeded once light turned green traveling on left lane on a 2 lane city road. Used turning signal to move to right lane when another car that had turned at the traffic light on to the road I was traveling on. I did not see the car after turning to look due to the blind spot in rear of my car. At the time I hit the other cars front left fender/tire area causing minor damage to both cars. I was ticketed for improper lane change even though I turned my signal on & looked. I now have to go to traffic school to keep points off my license & pay out of pocket for repair damage to my car. There have been a few other close calls when attempting to change lanes due to the blind spot area in my car.

Wheel problem #33

2014 kia Optima sxl turbo. Wife's car. Drives in eco mode 99% of the time. Hankook optimo h431 tire size 225/45r18. 31000 miles in 36 months. I know because it's a lease! found multiple cracks on side wall of tire on driver front. Tires are original from factory/dealer or I (have never changed them myself. ) car 100% parked in garage. Found multiple cracks 2 days ago from one inch to 3 inches long. Went to dealer in covina CA. No replacement offered. This is my 2nd step.

Wheel problem #34

Nexen cp671 tires, p215/55r17 - tires are oem on my kia Optima, which I purchased new. At 14,972 miles, my car's handling changed. The dealership advised both front tires have developed sidewall bulges, as well as excessive tread wear. (tires had been rotated. ) I was advised to purchase new tires immediately as present ones were extremely unsafe. I read that this is a common complaint for these tires, so I called nexen directly to see if they would offer a replacement, but was shocked to hear they take no responsibility on oem tires, nor do they even offer a discount on the purchase of new tires. Needless to say, I won't be replacing them with new nexens which, by the way, their agent told me they do warrant at no additional change.

Wheel problem #35

Takata recall: the tire low light on he dash is always on no matter what I do. I have always had my tires changed from the dealer never from a third party. This is inconvenient for me because this is the identification for a low tire. So anytime I suspect a low tire I have to stop my vehicle where ever I may be get out and walk around the vehicle to manually test the pressure in my vehicles tires. .

Wheel problem #36

The chrome on the wheels is separating from the wheel/rim. All around the lug nuts area the chrome is pealing off.

Wheel problem #37

I have a 2012 kia Optima and my steering wheel is making a loud clanking noise when I hit a bump in the road or slightly turn the wheel . I have searched on line and it's saying it is a cluster not sure wat that is I have been told it should be under recall because that can cause the steering wheel to loose it's directions and I could either cause and accident or be part of one.

Wheel problem #38

The contact owns a 2001 kia Optima. While driving 15 mph, the front passenger side wheel completely detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the subframe was corroded and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The contact was aware of NHTSA campaign number: 09v183000 (suspension). The failure mileage was 100,000.

Wheel problem #39

My tires have had issues with extremely quick ware on the outside tread since about a year after purchase of the vehicle brand new in 2011. I have been told multiple times that it was just time to change the tires or have them rotates/balanced. The dealership wanted me to pay for an alignment and I took it somewhere else for a 2nd opinion - got an alignment done (which helped for about a month) took it back to the dealership, had it reset to factory settings - and the problem continues. . I have gone through so many tires. . . In addition, I now recently have an issue with a very loud clanking noise in the steering column, very intense steering wheel vibration in addition to a click noise when I turn hard right or left, it almost feels like the steering wheel is loose somewhere.

Wheel problem #40

I have a knocking sound in my steering wheel. The noise happens when I turn the wheel back and forth. Also, I have noticed an odd grinding/slipping sensation in the front left wheel when I accelerate on a right turn from different elevations. Pulling out of a parking lot on a "decline" while accelerating to the right to enter traffic is a good example. 73,000 miles currently but I've noticed the grind/slip a lower mileage.

Wheel problem #41

My family was on hwy 75 returning from thanksgiving vacay when we discovered that the airbag light was on. After placing a call to kia, I discovered that apparently airbags aren't covered by the 130,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Now the ignition has an issue. Often times, I have to hit my key in the ignition in order to be able to turn the key. I am wondering if the ignition issue and the airbag issue are relateable and need to see if covered by warranty. There are 90,000 miles on this car and I have had it for less than a year. We purchased it used from drivetime. Thanks.

Wheel problem #42

Just bought my car this year with 26350 miles on it. When it got to 30000 needed new tires. The car check engine light keeps coming on. I have took it to the shop and they turn it off. Then when I drive it and it comes back on again. It has broke down on the road four times. Twice I called road side help the other two times someone has helped me. It runs hot because it is bubbling if I drive for more then a hour. Bought the car from power of bowser.

Wheel problem #43

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds there was a loud abnormal nose emitting from the steering wheel in addition the contact stated that while driving at various highway sppeeds the vehcicle's steering wheel and wheels began to shake. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to get diagnoised. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000. Gl.

Wheel problem #44

We own a 2002 kia Optima- found out there was a recall- the recall was corrision to the subframe that could lead to problems with the control arm. I was told that the car was inspected in 2010 and the recall was taken care of at that time. We bought the car from a private owner in 2014. 2015 went to get new tires on the car and discount tire told us that they couldn't do an alignment because there is an issue with the control arm. We found out to repair the control are it would be over $500. When I called the kia hotline to inquire about the recall, I was told that we would need to take the car to a kia dealership to have the car reviewed by their service men to see if there is any issues with the subframe and control arm. I'm concerned my concern is not going to get adressed. 7/11/2016 jp.

Wheel problem #45

My wife was driving the vehicle on darby road in haverford, PA going about 30 mph. She heard a loud noise and lost control of the vehicle. After safely stopping she inspected the car and found that the right front tire was no longer straight up and down but was tilted. The haverford police responded and asked if she had hit anything. She replied "no". The police looked down the road and could not find any potholes or anything that had been struck. We had the vehicle towed to west chester, PA kia dealership. They are insisting that something had to have hit the vehicle. They say that there is evidence of scrapes on the underside of the vehicle. I told them that was probably due to the car being dragged by the tow truck to get in on to the flatbed when it was towed to our house. When it was removed from the tow truck it was again dragged on the ground. The same thing happened this morning when another tow truck came to take it to kia of west chester. They are now going to tow it from there to gran sport auto in west chester, PA and I am sure more damage will occur. I feel that since there was no accident, no pothole and no collision with anything that this could be a manufacturer defect. Kia is saying it had to have occurred because of impact.

Wheel problem #46

We got a new kia Optima sxl 2013. The tyres are fill with nitrogen gas. On our last state inspection we were told the there was 25% left on the tread of each tyre & will require changing soon. Started to check out prices in the area at all the tyre merchants. Only to find in my horror that only two places in a 30 mile + radius can do nitrogen fill & the prices are horrendous. It should not be this difficult to simply change tyres on a car. Kia as well as a lot of other new cars don't come with a spare tyre, but instead supply you with a small compressor unit. Because of this difficulty, it looks like we are going to be forced to change over to air filled types, and buy a new spare wheel & tyre for the trunk. At a great deal more expense, than should be required. Kia USA are being of little or no help whatsoever. Very angry. I am now in the stage of making a formal complaint to the office of the attorney general, as we it is also a serious safety issue. Anyone else in the same boat????.

Wheel problem #47

I was driving on I-10 westbound, katy TX freeway, travelling about 65 miles per hour. The passenger's side front tire blew out causing the car to go back and fourth between two lanes of traffic. In the process, I was hitting the rubber dividers, damaging the hood of the car and the windshield. The blown tire caused damage to the oil pan, the radiator, and eventually the transmission. I got the car to the emergency lane. The car was towed off the freeway and eventually picked up and transported to a car repair shop. A few days later, the insurance adjuster and the repair shop owner both agreed the car was a total loss. I had to buy a new car.

Wheel problem #48

Just weeks after purchasing my kia, it had to be brought back to replace cracked dash, heated steering wheel peeling, tires wearing on the outside, wiper blades sucked & you could not see out of them when it rain, cracked outside of sunroof seal, pulling to left side and surges. They put new tires, steering wheel & fixed the dash. The service manager stated the specs were within normal limits for the alignment & transmission. The outside of the sunroof is normal wear & tear & it will crack again, stated the sun cracks it! it has been in the service department 5 times! even though my car is still under warranty! I have had 4 set of tires & they wear on the outside, it stills pulls to the left & I was told the alignment is normal. 6 sets of new wiper blades & they say that's not a problem. My car surges & it has not even been addressed! in late September my check engine light came on the day after I had my oil changed, I took my car to my dealership service, they kept it, fixed the 'oil control valve" within 5 miles from my dealership, check engine light came back on. After a week & a half, my 'intake cvvt timing & my 'exhaust cvvt timing! my warranty will be up in the next few months & I am worried about what is going to happen next & then theres no warranty! there should be a recall on Optima's steering to the left & on the tires either, alignment! I have went as far as contacting the georgia consumer protection, kia consumer hotline, us department of transportation, traffic safety, the attorney general's office. I have also contacted my local & national news station & will be meeting with them next week. If this does not raise a few questions, I will hire an attorney!! this is not about money, verses what is right!.

The NHTSA campaign number is 09v183000 and the component is suspension. I was told that the recall portion for my vehicle was performed but only as an inspection by glassman kia, southfield michigan, in July 2009. I experienced the actual corrosion of the front sub-frame but thank god I did not have a crash. I am told by kmc that there is a possibility they may not fix the car. I have an appointment at glassman tomorrow, July 17, 2014.

Dear nexen & southwest kia 39650 lyndon b. Johnson fwy, dallas, TX. 75237 (972) 283-9797: I am reaching out to your company in hopes of gaining resolution on a recent safety issue I experienced with your tires. On June 28th 2013 I purchased a motor vehicle from your dealership VIN# [xxx], kia SUV. Unfortunately, the vehicle has not been satisfactory because on 3/14/14 I was driving in to work traveling at about 70 mph on the highway and the rear tire on the SUV completely came apart to my dismay, leaving me driving on three good tires and a bare rim. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Wheel problem #51

At 20000 miles my fog lights would not work , the weird put the directional signal to turn right they would come on for a short time, replaced bulbs nothing they don't work. Also had to replace brakes and the tires, tire brand are junk, poorly made they were beyond the limit for safty, then at 40000 miles both front wheel bearings had to be replaced, now at 78000 miles the struts are making a horrible clanking and the ac is blowing hot air even after 2 cans of the stuff the mechanic said to add. I travel on the highway to work 36 miles one way daily hense the milage but the high way is smooth as well. Very disappointed kia owner, when called to ask about the fog lights was told your problem so im sure the struts will be and the ac will also be my problem . Sadly thought they would back up there product.

Wheel problem #52

First, the tires were worn/dry rot with only 3000 miles on the vehicle. Second, vehicle stalls when there is any moisture on the roadway causing safety hazard because the car will not move. Third, back up camera is not working. Fourth, recall notice for underbody rust. Fifth, recall notice for engine seizure while the car is driving at high speed.

Wheel problem #53

After 15,000 miles tire developed a huge bubble on the side wall of the front left tire. Bought the car brand new with original tires from dealership(nexen). These tires should be outlawed. Right after I got it to a mechanic shop, it exploded and was sitting on the rim. I was very fortune to not be driving on the highway when this occured. I can send picture also. I have had two flat tires within the first year of purchase. Not including the 2nd pair that the bubble developed at the front. The nexen tires tread life is very short too. . They seemed to drive better in slightly wet conditions than dry; odd. :/ I received no compensation from the kia dealership I bought it from.

Wheel problem #54

I've owned this vehicle for about one week. Within the first two days I noticed a slight drifting of the vehicle while driving above 40 mph, but dismissed it as being caused by the high winds that were occurring during that time. Over the next few days, these drifting experiences lingered. The worst experience occurred 02/14/13, between 5:30pm and 6:15pm, a high traffic period, on a freeway which is currently under construction. After making a left turn from a traffic light onto the freeway, I proceeded into the left lane. Within a few feet, or acceleration to 50 mph or so, the front wheels, began to pull toward the right. Both of my hands were on the steering wheel the entire time, but I had to steer slightly left to correct to avoid going into the right lane. A few seconds later, the same scenario occurred as above. I next changed to the right lane as my exit was nearing. Within 3/4 mile there is a slight curve left, which the car had issues cornering and again led to my having to steer to correct. This is safety concern, a serious one. This is not a random, every so often occurrence. It is daily, frequent, if I travel on a freeway or anytime speed limits are above 35 mph. There are other instances of what appear to be cornering issues. Left turns are awkward if you follow proper procedure for turning into the lane closest to you. Most turns end up wide, as if you're driving a wider chassis vehicle, I. E. A pick-up or SUV. The steering defect even appears noticeable upon parking, as the steering wheel is always a hair off center when you park straight in a stall or space. In the city I reside in the state of nevada, constant road construction, lanes that change from horizontal to zig-zag every few feet, the last thing needed is a car that has any hint of a fault with steering or suspension.

Wheel problem #55

I was leaving my driveway and drove approximately 2 car lengths, my car stopped and started shaking, it wouldn't go forward or backwards. Turned the emergency flashers on as I placed the car in park. I got out and went around to the passenger side of my car; the wheel was against the firewall. I found a recall 2-15-13, called kia customer service, they sent a towing company; in which, towed my car to mike smith kia in paducah, ky. They found that my lower control arm had separated from the sub-frame due massive corrosion. Replaced the sub-frame & drive axle,2 new tires. Picked my Optima 3-20-2013. 3-27-2013, noticed power steering leak, called set-up an appointment to have it checked out for 4-4-2013. April 3, 2013 my brakes go out! jesse hodges (mike smith kia) has my car towed to their facility; in which, the brake line cracked my the gas tank. I paid to replace the brake & gas lines, they repaired the power steering leak! the problem now abnormal wear of the tires they replaced from the recall. Mike smith kia will replace my tires but wants me to pay for the front-end alignment; in which, was to be done when replacing the sub-frame. I feel this is their responsibility because they failed to properly repair my car. I have been in contact with kia corporation, they seem to be having problems in receiving copies of my file from mike smith kia to resolve this. Please help me resolve this!! (recall case number: k2434963 with kia corporation).

Wheel problem #56

The vehicle was driven and at one point there was a noticeable difference in steering and the car pulled to the right. Within a few days of this event, the brand new tires that were purchased just a few months earlier, wore from the inner edge to about 1/3 of the width of the tire, exposing the belts. This caused one tire to pop, while the car was being driven. A spare was placed on the vehicle to get it to a tire repair location and after approximately 30 miles of driving, the spare lost all tread and also popped. The vehicle was then towed to the tire repair shop and the rusted and broken subframe was detected. The area was so rusted that portions of the frame broke and the tires were no longer running straight. I called kia and they told me although there are recalls for this very problem on kia Optimas from 2001 to 2004, my car was not in the recall because I live in kansas. The recall does apply to kias in missouri, which is 15 minutes from where I live. The kansas city area is both missouri and kansas and the area where I live. The rusting is attributed to salt used during inclement weather in missouri and not only is the same salt used in kansas, but I also drive in missouri. The kia representative still refused to recognize that my vehicle should be part of the recall even though the exact same issue that caused other kia Optimas to be recalled has happened to my vehicle. The recall needs to be extended to kansas because we deal with the same elements as missouri and iowa which are included in the recall. My son was driving this vehicle when the damage occurred and he could have suffered serious injury if he had been on the highway instead of a side street.

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 kia Optima. The contact stated that two months after purchasing the vehicle, the tire pressure warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised that the tire would need replacing. The vehicle did not come equipped with a spare tire, only a tire mobility kit that included an inflation device. The dealer advised that the failed tire could not be inflated and needed to be completely replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000. The current mileage was approximately 3,000. The VIN was unavailable. Kmj.

Wheel problem #58

The passenger wheel came off the car as my son was backing out of a parking space at a grocery store. I bought this car new. That part of the car had never been worked on. The car had to be towed to a garage for repair. Kia used glue on life a support nut on a ball joint, where they should have used a cotter pin. I have bought four (4) kias. These cars are still in the family. The kia I drive daily is identical (except being automatic) to the one that the wheel came off.

Wheel problem #59

My wife had a flat tire when she had help to get it changed there was no spare tire so the person left because he could not do any thing. That left my wife and my little girl alone on a road in the middle of no where for 4 hours until I could get there and pick them up . I called kia and they said they dont put spare tires in there cars any more the government should make them put them in because it is dangerous for people to be stranded in middle of no where . When I bought the car no body told me there was no spare in the 2012 kia Optima. If I knew I would not have bought it.

Wheel problem #60

My 2002 kia Optima, veered of the side of the interstate due to a flat tire. The tires had been replaced that morning and within 130 miles on the highway the right front tire popped. As I took a closer look I noticed my wheel was slanted in. I then had it towed to the nearest repair shop who informed me the engine cradle was rusted and corroded. When I contacted kia about the issue they basically said sorry about your luck. There is a recall for this problem but my VIN is not included. No action has been taken by kia in any of my attempts to have them resolve this problem. I am, and have been, stranded out of town for 3 weeks now waiting on them to make some kind of decision. They have overlooked every word I have said to them about the salt in my location and the cars previous locations which causes such corrosion to a poorly make vehicle. The car originates from southern California where salt is presently in the air. It then was registered in oklahoma and the texas panhandle, both having harsh snowy winters. The car clearly has been exposed to enough salt to have been included in the recall. This is kia's responsibility, yet they are doing nothing about it. When I crashed my car into the ditch on the side of the highway, my life was put at risk. There very easily could have been a car to my left or right or a pole in that ditch. Kia should have fixed this problem in all Optima's put out during the year of the recall. It is a serious danger to any unaware driver of a 2001-2004 kia Optima. Legal action needs to be taken against kia.

Wheel problem #61

The contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. The contact stated that the vehicle did not come equipped with a spare tire. The vehicle came equipped with an air pump and a can of fix a flat. The manufacturer was notified who stated that a spare tire did not come with the vehicle. They offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 1,000.

Wheel problem #62

When I purchased the vehicle I noticed it pulled to the left and I brought it back to the dealer and they "said" they performed a fix according to an internal kia TSB-032 document. When I brought the vehicle back for a 15,000 mile service and another tire rotation they rotated the tires and the car aggressively pulled to the left again. I brought it back and argued over paying for an alignment and they said they would do the alignment to correct the problem. At this point, it did not correct the issue and the tires were put back prior to the 15k rotation. Since owning the vehicle, I am unable to rotate the tires without an aggressive pull to the left. Just today, 8/24/2013, the dealer told me kia had numerous complaints with nexen tires and have since switched to kumho. There should be a recall because kia used a product line that is obviously flawed and now the dealer is saying I have to spend >$1000 on a set of new tires for a problem that has existed since I drove the vehicle (brand new) off the lot.

Wheel problem #63

This is a brand new hybrid. Since initial purchase the car has been observed to steer to left on its own at lowest speeds. Tire pressure has been checked weekly and has been maintained as per specs. Car still veers to left. On researching have found that this is an issue with all 2011 kia Optimas including other models. Continuously observed this for next 500 or so miles and then took to dealer who acknowledged the issue but said kia corporate has not notified them of any issue so they do not know what to do as this hybrid car is too new. The same issues has been reported on other kias non hybrid as well. The dealer was dulles kia in leesburg, va . I would not worry about cosmetic issues but on a brand new car such safety issues are troublesome especially when dealers have no clue. Dealer indicated these are new cars with new power steering modules and hence they have seen lot of these cases. Kia needs to recall and replace ASAP. Nhtsa needs to issues safety research. The car on higher speeds also pulls to left and is dangerous with windy conditions.

Wheel problem #64

The contact owns a 2004 kia Optima. While driving approximately 10 mph, an extremely loud sound of metal to metal emitted outside of the vehicle. The contact drove onto the emergency lane and noticed the front driver's side suspension and frame completely fractured due to rust corrosion. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The failure was associated with recall NHTSA campaign id number 09v183000 (suspension: front); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact planned to notify the manufacturer regarding the defect. The failure mileage was 85,854. I was less than ten minutes removed for highway, I could have been killed, wheel front passanger completely broke off! updated 09/14/2011 updated 12/19/11.

Wheel problem #65

While driving my 2001 kia Optima on north interstate 65 to indiana, in four lane traffic my kia right front wheel nearly came off due to corrosion of the sub-frame and lower wheel control arm causing separation. My husband and I could have both been kill along with many other people. I loved my car and I praise the kia, now they don't care about me or other people in kentucky. They want fix my car but most of the states around my state is doing so, they are thousands of recalls on all other car's I am sending a letter to the president of the u. S. A. I will not stop until ky or kia is not allowing vehicle in ky not be in the recalls. Tells me people in ky just don't matter to kia or ky , we are people to, and this car would have last me a life time I am sure if this had not happen. Just because my VIN number. Was not in the system , even though 2001 - 2004 kia Optima has been recall ky lags behind and does not care about me. My car is just junk now and I can not buy another. I will continue to spread the word about how they are treating me I will never give up.

Wheel problem #67

I have a 2001 kia and on July 5 2009 I was driving down the road when I was pushed over to the left lane and my tire has detached from the frame it messed up my bumper and the hole underneath of my car was damaged.

Wheel problem #68

There was a safety recall on my 2002 kia Optima regarding the subframe. The corrosion under my car is devastating. Nhtsa needs to know that this corrosion problem is extensive and affects more then the subframe. Kia is insisting that I pay for the damage they will cause when they have to replace the subframe. This is a safety hazard that will affect thousands.
