Vehicle Speed Control Problems of Kia Motor Optima - part 2

The esc kight keeps turning on . The brake lights wont turn off, it wont let me accelerate while im driving at different speeds or it will decelerate abruptly. Yes its available for inspection. My safety and the safety of my two young children were at risk multiple times. This is my daily driver. And I was driving them to school when the car would not let me accelerate and someone almost hit me from the back. Also it happened to us on the freeway a few times as we are driving 65 mph the car decelerates abruptly almost causing major accidents while my children are in the vehicle with me. Not yet , I called the nearest kia dealer and they didnt have appointment LS until July - August. There were no warning lights at all. At first we didnt know what was the problem. After the few times it happened then the esc light turned on and it stays on. Also the brake light wont turn off even when the car is off.

Knock sensor detection system. Driving and all the sudden felt like it hard down shifted… car behind me almost hit me. Engine light started flashing so I pulled into autozone and plugged it in and got the knock sensor code. It’s had oil consumptions issues for a while. It’s so dangerous to drive with limited power and speed.

Ever since I got my car I’ve had black oil since the start . Second my car breaks on its own at times 3rd my car system keep breaking down as the sparks leaking in some where has this issue since bought it 2 years ago low miles.

-knock sensor detection system - ecu logic improvement - I was driving with my infant son in the backseat. I was going 70 mph when my car started rapidly losing speed. This happened again with just myself after receiving the car from mechanic. There was heavy traffic and I had to swerve to avoid being hit by an 18-wheeler. - I can see on the website where I received the car from, there is a recall for my exact make and model with the same code but they say there is no recall for my specific car. - the check engine light started flashing and kia systems starts talking.

My vehicle speed up and slow down all that itself. It will not maintain speed even with my foot steady on the gas. It will not accelerate, but the major problem is my seatbelt gets stuck all the time I’m afraid to get buckled. I am unable to remove my seatbelt multiple times so now I have buckled my seatbelt behind me so I can start getting tickets. I’ve gotten like four tickets because I’m scared to be buckled that it’s not gonna come on down when I need it to be I’ve got 40 bought tickets. I was going about 20 mph when I went to the brakes for my vehicle accelerated by itself crashing into a pillar at the mall. I did call the police.

The contact owns a 2015 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph the vehicle was decelerating to 60 mph. The vehicle began to shudder and failed to accelerate above 20 mph. The check engine warning indicator light was illuminated and flashing. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Here I explain the problem better, when the car is at a low speed, such as when parking, the gasoline engine starts and it starts to rev up to 6k rpm and after that it brakes and hits hard, this would be dangerous on the highway and another problem is that when accelerating it has a delay of 1-3 seconds, and I want to report this problem to see if there is any solution.

My airbag light is on and I have no power to my steering wheel controls including my horn.

The engine lost power taking off crossing a major roadway, resulting in a stall, vehicle had to be restarted in a panic. The knocking and loss of power put me and my passenger in danger of a side impact from cross traffic. The issue was reproduced by a dealer upon further inspection. The vehicle will be inspected by a service department at certified dealership. No warnings lights or fault warnings appeared related to this issue.

On 3/1/23 on my way home from my which the site was in perth amboy, NJ. At the north somerset rest stop, just exited the I-76 westbound. I lost power around 65 mph. I didn't get any response from my brakes at first and nothing from my accelerator. Upon drifting and praying that I'd make it to the lot out of the main exiting lane. Upon pulling into a spot at the very farthest spot from the building, I noticed my check engine light is flashing. Press my brakes were working. Accelerator was hardly responding. I've worked on my car and my families cars, and cars most of my life. I had my code reader with me. Plugged it in and got the code that I've heard and read about. P1326 knock sensor. Knowing about this about kia and hyuandi, I knew my engine was dead. Thank god it didn't catch fire like some others have. I had it towed to smail kia in greensburg, PA. That was the closest and not the dealer I bought it from. We bought it from century 3 kia west mifflin, PA. After their promises that the engine would get replaced, lack of communication, many of my calls,voicemail, emails and showing up in person,(had to move 2 things that would've been in the way of the swapping of the engine) and a week later kia denied my replacement due to "power adders". None of which I have, use or cause any issues. No testing was done on what they thought was power adders. However, all of the tests that show their faulty engine components as perr the federal lawsuits and recalls. . . . . All failed! I can't drive the car. It's dangerous for myself and any other motorist. Could explode, catch fire or completely fail on any highway/roadway. I need my car for my career and above all, my life sustaining health and medical appointments now I'm left with no vehicle. I still owe around a year- year and a half. As well as car insurance. Now what? kia needs to do the right thing here, for myself and anyon else suffering from this horrific life changing nightmare.

On 2/24 I was driving on ben hill griffin parkway, I was in the middle lane going thru an intersection, when suddenly while attempting to accelerate to go thru the light, all of my dash lights came on and the gas petal stopped working completely. I had cars in front, behind and on sides of me and I was unable to move out of the way. I attempted to restart the car to no avail. This could have been an incredibly deadly and dangerous situation and was extremely scary. With help I was able to move my car out of the way, call a tow truck and have it taken to the nearest kia dealership (galeana kia, 14483 tamiami trail, ft. Myers) who advised they would evaluate the car and get back to me the next day. Tuesday I got word that my engine had seized and there was less than 1 qt of oil in it. I couldn't believe this as I just had an oil change 6 weeks prior. The service advisor, jeff, said when an engine seizes they report it to kia to see if they will replace but that kia tech team advised they were declining replacing my engine as I didn't take my car to kia for service and there weren't enough carfax reports to show proper care. This made no sense as I get my oil changed every 5k and use syntenic oil. I proceeded to send many oil change receipts only for them then tell me "it's owners responsibility to check oil between oil changes" and they aren't going to assist in any way. Sharing this story with others led me to learn that kia is supposed to warranty these engines to 150k due to this being a known issue and multiple class action lawsuits about the engines burning oil and seizing while driving. I was in the middle of an intersection, that could have cost me my life! I called kia corp and they told me to work with dealership and they couldn't do anything for me. This after just replacing 4 window regulators where the regulator dies and your windows fall down (another safety hazard. ) I appreciate you looking into and addressing this safety injustice for me.

Car smoking white , and driving slow after I hit a pothole when it was raining hard.

First I had an oil leak which I was advised to warm my car up to prevent from getting worse. At the time I was told it was minor. Then my oil light started coming up every 2 weeks and when checked there was no oil. Now 2 months later, my car has stopped and showed a blinking check engine light. When checked I was told a code of p1326 which is the knock sensor. I have only had my car 7 months and it’s been problem after problem. Not to mention only a month after buying it was stolen. Due to no immobilizer so I’m sure a lot of the issues are also a result of the dumb theif who decided to damage my car. Also my cruise control doesn’t work a lot of the time.

I was driving my car and it just slowed down on the freeway and wouldn’t go pass 60mph I went to my nearest autozone and received code p1326 I was told it was the knock sensor and got it changed. I checked my oil and noticed it was low even tho I got an oil change not even a month before. However the problem didn’t change. I decided to go to the internet and notice many other kia have had these problems and have received a recall.

As I would drive the vehicle a rattling noise would occur when every time I accelerate from stopping at a traffic light. Then the engine light appeared on the dash board. When I went to have the engine light checked the results came back about an oil gasket. I then got an oil change soon after. The rattling noise and the same acceleration problem still occurred. Soon after it gotten worst to the point couldn’t go faster then 10 mph and then the car kept shutting off.

My vehicle engine blew while driving on the highway going about 65 no warning or signs other then the amount of oil that it was consuming. I am just now hearing about the class action lawsuits for my specific engine the theta 2. 0 which I have already verified it is part of it. Kia is saying it's the wrong part of the engine that is blown that it want be qualify for the engine replacement. I have kept my oil changed regularly and just recently noticed it started to consume godly amounts of oil no leak, or smell it was literally disappearing it is not normal to add almost 4qts of oil every 2 weeks or so. These engines need to be recalled not placed on a "service bulletin" and they pick and choose which to fix. Point is they are ticking time bombs and something need to be done they will not back their products and us consumers are left to suffer.

The contact owns a 2015 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at an undetermined speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate and stalled. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that an engine replacement was needed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed him that he had failed to complete the knock sensor detection system (ksds) repair and provided no additional assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

Driving along the interstate approximately 70 mph, the vehicle jerked with knock sound then lost acceleration speed. At the same time, the check engine light started blinking. I pulled over to the side of the interstate put the car in park. I put it back in drive and slowly attempted to accelerate again. I was able to make it home because I was only about a mile and a half away, but I the acceleration was very slow and there wasn't much power behind it. At a speed of about 45-50, the vehicle barely seemed to have much power.

For the past 5-6 months I’m have ongoing issues with my engine and excessive oil consumption. I’ve completed the three oil consumption test per 1000 miles. On the last test(3rd check), I was told I passed and nothing further was needed. Approximately 1 month after that my engine light illuminated and my car violently shook upon acceleration and while sitting idle. Was informed it was my spark plugs and electric coil… OH and a routine oil change, which I paid to have repaired at approx. $650 this was in late August/early September. Now here we are in late October and my oil lamp is on yet again! my car does not achieve speeds no higher than 50 mph. I’ve been to the dealership 7 times since April 2022. There’s an expense with owning cars but this is ridiculous. I’m currently a few hundred miles shy of 80,000 miles.

I was driving with an SUV in front of me at 18-wheeler in front of them. This is on a road where the speed limit is 65 however there's a section on 301 where there's a traffic light. All three vehicles came to a slow normal stop and the adaptive cruise control was doing a good job of slowing the vehicle down without my input. But the SUV when we were at about stopping speed but had not yet come to a complete stop, the SUV switched to the left lane. At which point I was maybe 20 ft behind the 18-wheeler and all of a sudden the car is adaptive cruise control tried to accelerate the car back up to the setting of 65. It didn't register the 18-wheeler at all it just registered that the car in front of me had cleared the space and if I had not been paying attention and immediately applied the brakes to stop the car manually it absolutely would have accelerated directly into the back of the 18-wheeler. I was maybe 5 ft and it was still accelerating when I slammed on the brakes. I've been able to since reproduce the effects, it doesn't register 18 wheelers correctly in this specific situation as vehicles. I've even had the camera recalibrated in between tests. I have everything on video but unfortunately do not have access to the car's computer logs. I would be willing to send in my ecu for whatever is needed to identify this further.

Hello I've been having my car for a year I told the dealership the problem but it seem as they don't want to fix it my car wouldn't go over 60miles and also my engine just locked up this doesn't make sense when they know these problems are a recall on this type of vehicles.

Hey, while driving my vehicle the engine light started blinking and there was a delay in my acceleration and when I got to 60-65 mph my car begins to stall and will not drive any faster. Also I sent my car to the dealership for repair 08/15/22 and they still haven’t diagnosed the car yet even after I received letter in mail for recall. Please help thank you.

Engine was replaced per case # 14397135, and pi1803y/z, since engine repair turbocharger boost control position sensor “a” circuit high codes (p2562 & p2565) continuously come and go. Check engine light comes on and off for the same codes. Knocking noise continues, loss of acceleration as if voltage or gas was lost, steering wheel speed control buttons (+/-) no longer properly function since engine replacement. It now has a class 2 leak. Safety risk:when driving it loses speed or fails to accelerate may cause crash. Kia dealership has tried to access the code but codes are spontaneous, same for loss of acceleration.

On 6 June 2022 I was driving eastbound interstate 80 passing fairfield, CA. Traffic was moderate, average traffic speed 65. The kia’s adaptive cruise was enabled and set to the maximum amount of safe distance. I recall the car directly in front of me changed lanes to pass a truck towing a trailer. I remember the kia began to accelerate and I couldn’t turn the wheel. Next memory was opening my eyes to the dust smoke of deployed air bags. I lost consciousness likely due to the sudden impact and air bags deployed. I was taken to a fairfield hospital by ambulance where I spent 4 days. A slurry of tests ruled out loss of consciousness as the cause. No stroke, heart attack or seizure occurred. I was treated for bruised ribs due to the airbag. No doubt to me that this collision could have been catastrophic to this driver and others driving nearby. Witness reported that I sped up and clipped the truck/trailer while attempting to pass. What I believe happened: 1) the adaptive cruise accelerated when it determined there was room but failed to see the trailer and 2) the steering was unresponsive when I attempted to avoid a collision. The reaction time between car accelerating and getting knocked out had to be a mere three or four seconds. The vehicle was totaled, the insurance company, Mercury insurance, released the vehicle.

After accelerating from a stop and releasing my foot from the gas petal the car will start to accelerate on its own and speed up.

Traction control is too sensative. I was in a stop sign. Then tried to press the acceleration but vehicle lost power. Too sensative traction control caused me to stall in the middle. There were car coming from the left or right to me. I am glad I was at safe distance and could regain control of the car.

This has happened 3 times driving car almost comes to a complete stop. Acceleration dropped down to 20 mph. Was told it was a knock sensor replace in March in may did it again . Replaced it against the very next day it did it again. Went online and said it was a recall but nothing is showing up here . I will contact kia in the morning we could have been killed this happened in the expressway.

So I have a 2014 kia Optima got out the dealer at 70,000 miles was the second owner next thing u know I got a recall letter, stating that I need to inspect after I took it, my kia start to go down hill , I was stranded on limp mode pay off 4500 then couple moths later did the same thing now is at 190000 I tried fixing being honest but I just gave up so hope u guys could help install a new one.

I purchased my vechile Dec 28 2021, after driving it exactly one month, as I was driving on the high way my vechile shut off it was the scariest thing that has happened to me the car couldn't brake turn on nor accelerate I had to pull over on the break from being in the middle lane I had to be cautious due to vechile passing fast. Once the car stopped. Had to pay for towing due a state police showing up regardless if I had it on my insurance. I lost my good paying job due to this due to working 45 min away. I had my recall appointment for March 10th already scheduled before hand and my car was parked for a lil over a month then towed to the dealer. It's been 2 months and yet no vechile nor a temp vechile provided from the dealer told me there's nothing they can do. I called 3 days ago and they keep telling me nothing has been done yet anther month my vechile has to be there. It's crazy that the repairs has nothing to do with me nor my fault and I had to loose a 30 dollar paying job backed me up on rent car payment and everything else and still no consideration.

My check engine light came on Sunday January 23rd. Upon contacting my local kia dealership, I was told that my vehicle has recall # sc212 at which time was advised to bring my vehicle into the kia dealership for diagnosis. On Friday, January 28th I dropped my vehicle off at my local kia dealership and within 3 hours received a call from my service advisor who stated the following issues were found: 1. Oil leak; replaced: valve cover gasket, high pressure fuel line, and high-pressurese fuel pump bolts. 2. Recall sc212; replaced: multi-fuse and fuse box cover per campaign instructions. 3. Serpentine belt; replaced: drive belt 4. Brake pads; replaced: front brake pads and machined rotors. 5. Brake pads; replaced: rear brake pads, in addition to replacing both rear rotors. 6. Replaced: cabin air filter 7. Replaced: engine air filter 8. Oil and filter change; performed lof, set tire pressures, and topped off all fluids. Less than 72 hours after the above repairs were complete, and a hefty $1,500. 00 repair bill, my check engine light is back on! my vehicle lacks acceleration when depressing the gas pedal and I am fearful my vehicle may have the defective theta ii engine in it. I am a single parent with a 7 year old child and this has caused us to not feel safe driving our vehicle, not to mention I have had to miss multiple days of work and my daughter has missed several days of school now because we do not have a safe vehicle to commute to school and work in. Also, when searching my vehicles VIN number, it says the recall was not fulfilled? very concering! I have the vehicle diagnostic data in my uvo services account, in addition to itemized repair bill from kia.

On Nov. 26th 2021, I was driving my car and upon trying to accelorate, my car felt as if it was about to stall out. I pressed the gas and I barely moved. My engine light went on immediately and it's constantly flashing now. The cars rpm's do not go past 1-1/2 rpm's. I can not pick up speed like before, like I should. My car now hesitates and I'm scared to drive it. I feel that it's dangerous cause I can not keep up with traffic. I found a recall letter that I have from July 12, 2017 in which I took it to the dealer at that time I received it. I alo found 2 other recall letters ( see pics ataached). I guess at that time when they checked it nothing was wrong but now I am having an issue and I feel it could be related. The recall number 17v224 follow up letter of one of the recalls. The recalls prior to that does not have a # on it states: engine connecting rod on of the recalls. I'm hearing some knocking but it just happened and I havent driven it since Nov. 26th. A. M. The code that comes up as p1362, knocking sensor and can be a number of other things. And everything I read says the knock sensor detects vibrations indicating an onset of excessive connecting rod bearing wear. And can severly damage the engine. I'm very concerned and I feel that this recall back in 2017 is now happening to my car. I have uploaded the recall I have in my possession. According to william garcia( billy ) the service guy I always usually worked with at gunther kia, all of my recalls were checked and soem weere fixed. These particualr ones he said were done and or checked but nothing was repaired as you'll see in my history of service on recalls with them.

I was on the freeway and out of no where I couldn’t accelerate and immediately my car slowed down and I had to get over the car behind me had to slam on breaks and I was almost hit twice car then flashed to pull over and charge battery but it’s a brand new battery everything still turned on just couldn’t accelerate so it’s now towed to kia dealership to get diagnostics done scariest driving moment ever.

I was driving down the interstate for my work commute apx 70 mph when hev warning light engaged and vehicle went into limp mode. Had vehicle towed to dealership after running several tests determined the engine was knocking and needed replaced. After 2 months reman engine placed in vehicle. Vehicle function apx 6 months when the exact same problem occured on the highway traveling apx 60 mph. Vehicle is still in dealership. Thankfully, both times I was able to coast to the shoulder and avoid a collision. There is something wrong with these vehicles that need to be fixed.

While driving the car on the highway, when I try accelerating, the car suddenly acts as if it's in neutral and the engine roars without engaging a higher or lower gear and the car start losing power/speed. It takes like three to five seconds to engage a gear again; I have to lift my foot from the pedal a little bit and wait for it to lock on a higher or a lower gear for me to accelerate again.

Failed emissions test for engine light being on. Took to mechanic and he specified that it was my gas cap that needed replacing and I did so, but light is still on. No leakage was present at the time when mechanic checked, however, in the past there was a smell of gas inside the vehicle but it's no longer present at the moment.
