Tl the contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. The contact stated that the headlights failed to illuminate and there was extremely poor visibility. Also, the oil light randomly illuminated several times. The dealer (ossett kia south, 2680 mt moriah rd, memphis, TN 38115, (901) 328-8173) was unable to determine the cause of the failures. The contact replaced the headlight assemblies more than five times, but the visibility was still poor. The contact also noticed an abnormal odor in the vehicle. The dealer indicated that without the check engine indicator illuminated, they would not replace the catalytic converter. The contact stated that the warranty expired without the part being replaced. The fan also failed to function, but the failure was not remedied. The dealer also performed a repair per an unknown recall regarding the steering; however, the remedy failed to provide a solution for the steering coupler and the steering wheel was no longer straight. Also, the sun roof and moon roof glass had a crack going down to the driver's side of the vehicle where it met the windshield. There was also an abnormal noise progressing due to the failures. The manufacturer and dealer were notified of the steering failure, headlight failure, and moisture in the rear camera. The failure mileage was not available.

Driving on freeway near north bend wa. State with wife and 2 grandkids in car when panaramic sunroof exploded. Large blast from nowhere and nobody in front of me. It shocked us and almost made us wreck. Kia of America was horible to work with and took no responsability for their defect.

I have sent in complaints on my kia many of times and the one just came out about the latches, mine is not on the recall list. I have had the middle part of my glass crack the windshield that was and still under warranty and more but it seems I am being over looked on my car. I guess the only action to take is a class action lawsuit against kia America. When you have the proof they still do not believe you.
On 5/13/16 I walked out to my car without notice and got in. As of then I noticed a long crack starting at the bottom running upwards over half way and out to the middle cracks. I called the police to get a report but the officer said it had not been hit from the out side and take it to kia. I took it there and I was told I was hit by something like a rock or ball. The man at kia said take it to my insurance company. I took it there and the agent said it was hit but I had to pay $100. 00 before it could be fixed. A man from the glass repair came to look at it and he said it has been broken from the inside and he could tell better when the old one has been removed. He came out on 5/3/16 to replace it and he said that whoever told me that window was broken on the outside did not know what they were talking about. After looking at it very close he said that what broke it and made the cracks was the laminated plastic that holds the two pieces of glass together and it was a defect in the glass. Kia always tells me when I have a problem, that in no way the problems was from kia's making the car. This is my third problem with that car that they tell me they either cannot find the problem like with the trunk opening up, the battery they replaced on me by taking out almost a new one and replacing it with a older one. Now I had to pay out of pocket $100. 00 when it was no ones fault about the glass but kia because I still have seven months warranty left on the glass and they did not want to have to install a new one so they could save money and time and keep people thinking that kia is number 1. This kia with under 19,000 miles is junk to me and with some recalls on the make, model and year of this one, not but one single recall was ever made but you did not have to have it done. On this and other kia's they should make kia America rebuy all those cars.
While sitting at a stop sign, my sunroof exploded. The roof was open and the weather was sunny and approaching .

Knage123575112607 I took my car in today because of a letter I received for a service campaign. There are all several problems regarding my brakes loss of fluids severe corrosion flaking or scaling of metal brake pipes and I was told the weather has caused that when I called the consumer kia phone number. I have oil leak from the back of the engine and rogers very very rusty. Both front struts leaking. I took my car back to kia summit place in waterford michigan. This is where I bought my car. They told me that all of that corrosion was because I live in michigan.

Passenger sun visor stopped working and stays down affecting visibility on right side.
The weather strip on the windshield on the driver side just strarted lifting up and coming off as I was driving down the road. I checked the damage and saw the black piece completely off of the windshield. It continued to lift more as I drove. When it rained I believe water is now in the sensors because my odometer only reads "eco" above the actual odometer reading. It became such a hazard while driving I had to tape down the weather strip just to keep it from fully coming off my car and causing further paint damage to the side it smacks against. No mechanic will fix the issue due to being a maufacture error and I would have to replace the entire windshield if I did it myself. I have called kia manufactors in GA only to be placed to voicemail without response. I asked the dealership I bought the car from and they also said to call kia.

At a 4 way stop, (stop signs only) the car to my left was completely obscured by the side mirror and window housing. Street lights absorbed his headlights, car was dark blue. After looking both ways I let off the gas to proceed through the intersection to see a dark object right in front of me. I braked but we made contact scraping the paint from my bumper. I will say I just moved here from a larger town that only had stop lights so I had not noticed this problem before. I am 5'2" tall which also puts my eye level directly line of sight with the side mirror. It's a problem.
The visor on the driver side of the car fails to stay upright limiting visibility. The headlights are so poor that it's almost impossible to see when driving on a dark road at night. It's to the point where I don't drive the vehicle at night because the road leading out provides little to no light and I would constantly have to ride with the bright on to be able to see including the fog lights. Both are safety concerns that could possibly lead to an accident or someone being seriously hurt. I've seen several complaints but no further actions have been initiated.
I was on I-40 going about 75 mpg. Temp was about 75 and the driver side window cracked a little. The shade was not down on the sunroof, but the sunroof was not lifted. I was about to pass a vehicle to my right. All of a sudden there was a loud bang in the back of my head. I was so thrown off, I almost let go of the wheel. It echoed in my head. I panicked and pulled over on the interstate and flagged down a state trooper. The trooper checked. . . My car was not hot. Nothing flew in my car. Nothing flew out of my car. There was no other damage besides the hole in the sunroof. But you could tell that the explosion came from inside the car. The trooper was speechless. I was terrified to drive the car anymore because I didn't know what caused it. We concluded that it had to be some kind of air pressure that caused it. Again, I'm not an expert but I do know that I didn't do anything to cause this. I keep my car in great condition. After seeing the other reports, I'm glad I heard about this site. Please mandate a recall or rebate for people who have had this issue. The is extremely dangerous. My hearing in my right ear was "fuzzy" for a few hours, I had a massive headache, my ear is sore, the whole right side of my body hurts. Thank god I didn't have any cuts or bruises, but it felt like it (weird). I could have caused a horrible accident if I took both hands off of the wheel. And it's sad that kia has not addressed this with so many complains. We shouldn't have to pay a deductible for a manufacture flaw.
Message: I have a 2008 kia Optima that after a search of the internet that Kia Motor company has an issue with their sun visors on the car that I have. I have taken it back to the dealer but they said there is no recall for this type of safety issue. I send you this email so you can be made aware of the safety issues involved with the blocked vision of of a driver when this incident occurs while driving down the road. It is very scary when you get the visor back up and see you are headed into on coming traffic. I would like to thank you for your time and any assistance to kia owners who have this problem. If they replace the visor at the dealer they just put another defective visor on and charge you $180. 00. We need a fix. Thanks.

I bougjt this car in 2014. I have replaced both low-beam headlights, twice, a brake light, both rear blinkers, a front blinker, as well as both highbeams. I have never replaced even half the number of lights in the entire lifetime of ownership of any vehicle I have owned in the past. This is an obvious recall issue based on safety as well as quality if kia cared. When the lights are working I have to drive with my high-beams on and I never get flashed or pulled over. It is extremely hard to see vs. Any other vehicle. I have had many friends and family in the car and have shared the story. And everyone says the same thing, its like the brights in this car is everyone else's regular lights. In fact, many people say the high-beams are not as bright as most vehicles low-beams. It is ridiculous and unfair that us owners have to spend $10-$35 on a bulb or two an average of every 5-8 weeks. Crazy. . . . Kia step up and fix this quality and safety issue. Gov't I guess wont step in without someone dying first and it making the news because I see I am not the first by any means, and wont be the last!.
I was driving on the highway with the sunroof open. I heard an extremely loud pop, as if someone popped a balloon right next to my ear, and I was showered with glass. The sunroof had exploded. I wasn't around a bridge or overpass, and there weren't cars around me. I don't recall seeing anything on the road in front or me. There was no damage to the sunroof prior to my trip. It was about 80-82 degrees outside with clear skies. I've read that this has happened to other people with kia Optimas, Hyundai velosters, and other car manufacturers. My car is at the dealer now, and kia is aware of the issue and is investigating. Luckily I remained calm and pulled over to the side of the highway to clear off the glass and go to the dealer. That sound and shower of glass could have easily startled someone else and possibly caused an accident. I do have a picture of the sunroof prior to breaking away the additional, broken glass. Please contact me for it, should it be needed.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician verified the failure and replaced the sun roof. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 15,369. Pm.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked in a residential garage, the sunroof exploded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was being diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000. The VIN was unavailable.
Tl- the contact owns a 2014 kia Optima. The contact stated that the windshield wipers would leave streaks and smears on the windshield causing a visibility hazard to the driver during inclement weather. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the windshield wipers on multiple occasions. In addition, the driver side wiper arm was replaced but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 20. Djr.
Driver side visor would not go back up flush to the interior ceiling. I hit my head on it constantly getting in and out of the vehicle. I took the car to the dealer and they said it would cost $143 plus labor which I cannot afford. He advised maybe I could find a cheaper one on the internet. Going on the internet is when I discovered that this is a defective part that kia will not fix! naturally my warranty expired 6-2-2013. I have been driving with it all the way down so I only have half my visibility and need to lean forward and scrunch down to see signs and street signal lights. Also, if I have the dealer order one will it do the same thing again?.
The visor on the driver side all of a sudden does not stay in the upright position. It just hangs obstructing my view. This should be recalled because I have read that this is a known problem for kia Optima's. The dealership is going to charge me over $200 to replace it and I did nothing to break it. I just use the visor normally and do not hang anything from it. I was driving normally one day and it just fell down. My car is a little over 5 years old so it is no longer under warranty and I just finsihed paying it off so this is very upsetting. I feel that if the driver's view is obstructed then it should be recalled and replaced with a new working part. It is very distracting to drive with the visor down all the time. It gets in the way. Many people probably do not realize they can report this issue so I am providing some links for forums where people are stating similar problems. Please report this issue. . Read more...
After regular use, both sun visors have lost their tension. Also on the driver side the cylinder that clips into the holder at the top just cracked and broke off. They will not stay up, and just flop around. I can not see when I am approaching a stoplight if it is red/yellow/etc. If I push it to the side , it hits me over the side of the head when I make a turn. This is an extremely dangerous situation and kia needs to step up and do the right thing here. To replace both would cost me about $200 or more, which I simply do not have.
The contact owns a 2013 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, a noise was emitted from the driver's side window. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the noise was normal. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 20.
The contact owns a 2007 kia Optima. The contact stated that both the driver and passenger side sun visors would fall from their housing sporadically. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was advised that the sun visors needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 76,450.
The contact owns a 2013 kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50-55 mph, the sunroof glass exploded. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised her that the results of the inspection were inconclusive. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were approximately 12,000.
Both sun visors are unable to stay in the upright position. I was unable to use both visors as they would hang loosely downward flapping about aimlessly while driving. I had to anchor them to the roof of the car to drive. Dealer states cost to repair is almost $500. 00 and they need my car for the day. Parts must be ordered two weeks in advance.
Passenger side visor will not fold up out-of-the-way. There seems to be some sort of tension preventing the visor from being placed in the fold-up position.
The driver's side sun visor contains a defective component and doesn't remain in a locked position. When I try to move it to the locked position against the ceiling, it falls down into clear sight. This is great when the sun is in your eyes, but not during all other times. It severely decreases vision while driving. There are hundreds of complaints on the web and kia should be aware of the issue, but they have offered no resolution or recall for their defective sun visor.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 kia Optima. The contact stated that the front driver's side sun visor would not remain upright, impairing the contact's visibility of the roadway. The contact noticed that the passenger's side sun visor also began to present the same failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The sun visors were not replaced. The failure was reported to the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 75,000. The current mileage was 77,000. Kmj.
The air bag light stays on all the time 1 the passenger airbag light will say on with an adult sitting in the seat!!1 visors do not stay up! headlights are very dim . I've changed them out to a few different types still dim cannot see at night.
The driver's side sun visor will no longer stay in the upright position. I droop about half way down obscuring vision. Must be held up by hand.
Kia is fully aware of a problem with their sun visors. A quick google search will turn up thousands of cases. The visor components break causing them to hang loose, obstructing vision. This is a safety hazard. The defect has existed for a long time (my wife?s 2003 sorrento experienced the issue in 2004) and it continues today. My 2007 Optima has both visors hanging presently. There is no recall on these visors, and the cost to repair them is 100-200 each.
Sunvisors both will not stay up.
The drivers side sunvisor broke this time, drops down into line of sight. The passenger side sunvisor broke over two years ago, was finally replaced last christmas.
The contact owns a 2008 kia Optima LS. The contact was traveling 35 mph when the driver¿s side sun-visor failed to work properly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The dealer stated that the sun-visor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was repaired and the VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 38,500 and the current mileage was 38,520.
