Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Tl the contact owns a 2012 kia Optima Hybrid. While driving approximately 20 mph,the engine shut down and the hybrid system failure indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to kia of orange (714-602-1301, located at 210 w katella Ave, orange, CA 92867) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and requested the contact to provide evidence of regular maintenance. The contact provided the information. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 86,287.

While driving car shut off and hybrid battery went dead. Is says �hybrid system warning shut off vehicle and do not drive�. I had the car checked and the engine seems to be locked up. I have seen several complains on this and I won't pay for a new engine when kia needs to be responsible.

Car stalled all of sudden with shudder on route 7 in virginia and then immediately was yaken into parking lot for safety reasons. In trying to park car would not shut off. The car was on for about fifteen minutes then randomly stopped. After another ten minutes car would not start and then randomly started. Car was ASAP driven with engine shudder back to home drivieway and parked for safety. Car now again would nit shut down and kept running. On bith times while car refused to shut down the gauge showed cehck engine eps light and indicated that car needs tk be put in park mode even though car was jn park mode. Gearbox would not shift and car did not recognize lower gear modes as it kept saying car is not in p. Dealer was contacted and they said they were closed due to weekend. Will now need to tow the car as it will not start since previous inability to shutoff probably has killed battery.

While driving about 40 miles from home around midnight, on a busy freeway (I-5), going about 70 mph, my car suddenly flashed a warning about the hybrid battery discharging and to pull over. Then the power steering was gone and the car shut off. Thankfully we were able to coast to the side before getting hit. After about 5 minutes on the side of the road everything died including the emergency flashers and we were left in the dark waiting 2 hours for a tow truck. This is a serious safety hazard and we could've been hit or caused another accident. The car has not started since, however if the battery is actively being charged it will light up the dash board which just flashes welcome repeatedly and won't start. Currently at a kia dealership in tacoma, wa and waiting to hear what they think is wrong. From reading other stories on this site, sounds like this a reoccurring issue for kia and there was a recall for 2012 optimas, just not the hybrids.

I was driving on a four lane highway with my 4 yr old and 7 yr old. Literally as I pulled off onto the off ramp, my dash lit up stating "hybrid system not charged. Pull off and turn off engine" I did not even have time to do this when the engine shut off in an extremely dangerous place. If this had happened while driving on the highway, we could have been killed. After hours spent having to convince the dealership to tow the vehicle and provide a ride for me and my children, we finally were able to get a rental. Kia said the hybrid battery died but it is on back order and not available in the united states until October (3 months from now). Hmmmm something sounds fishy to me. I will never drive a kia again. The whole ordeal was traumatizing to my children and we were made to feel like we were the ones at fault.
