Equipment Problems of Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

I was driving the vehicle home on the freeway after just buying it. I had only driven it for about 35-40 minutes and after 5 minutes the ev battery was drained completely and the car was running in hybrid mode. The vehicle suddenly lost all its power and a warning light came on flashing saying "check hybrid system turn off engine". I was forced to put on my emergency lights and quickly move over to the side of the freeway because the car lost so much power so quickly. It felt like the engine died and when I tried hitting the gas the vehicle would jerk. Once I got to a safe spot on the freeway. I called aaa to get a tow, then called the dealer to tell them. My wife and I have now checked the recalls for this car and all the customer complaints. There seems to be a similarity with the engine recall and or the hybrid electrical recall. It seems like kia is making sure to cover its tracks with the cars so it doesn't have all the 2017 models in the recalls affecting the hybrid system as well as the defects with the engine components. There is definitely a problem. But I saw in the carfax that the vehicle was inspected a lot by kia and that is why I would like it to get inspected by a 3rd party. I would like to get the vehicle inspected by a 3rd party before taking it to a kia dealer but I don't have a lot of money. Can you help with this at all. Please contact me ASAP. You have the VIN. I told you I just bought the car so I am going to either see if the dealership I bought it from will fix the problem since it broke down the day I bought it. You should be able to see we bought the car from by looking at the carfax for the VIN. And you have my permission to also be able to get my phone numbers from that dealer I really don't think kia should get away with these hybrid/engine problems with the car. Its very unfair to the consumers. If they as a manufacturer and dealerships are doing quick fixes when doing regularly scheduled maintenance. Thats unethical.

The contact owns a 2012 kia Optima Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving the rpm decreased to 1,000 rpm. The check engine and brake warning lights were flashing. The contact was able to pull over to a safe location. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer and diagnosed with engine failure. The mechanic retrieved dtc: p26. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.

Electrical interior light turn on when you lean on the arm rest also got a oil change and the oil light will not reset cause there is a malfunction in the oil pressure.

While I was driver on the street. A warning check hev system light came on. Then the car electrical system just shutdown and I lost all power. The car went from working perfect to completely out of power in 30 second.

Driving veh on hwy at about 70 miles per hour when within seconds the car just turns off completely. Scary!!! after taking to local kia dealership and them being stumped so much they called and spoke to kia engineers,( tech line case ref #13028149) I was told I needed to replace the pressure source unit. I did, did not fix it. In fact when I returned the part they said it is now not working. Mechanic suggested a new abs system. I also replaced that. . . . Veh is still not repaired. I have spent over $1600 and can still not operate my veh safely. Kia does not have a clear answer, and I have seen this complaint on this site more than once. Please recall this vehicle before someone gets hurt.

The vehicle has had a hybrid safety warning lighting up. It goes on and then the vehicle powers down to 25 mph. This happens at random when driving specially in cold weather.

Some of this cars was on fire and we want to know if its safe.

While I was driving my 2013 kia Optima Hybrid this morning. While driving, I suddenly got a warning message that said "hybrid system failure stop safely do not drive". I pulled over and smelled what seemed to be fire, but saw nothing. I called my fianc� to let him know what was going on and the cabin started filling with smoke. I jumped out of the car and popped the trunk. There were flames shooting out of the hybrid system. The fire was extinguished, the car is now sitting in a tow yard. I take very good care of my car. There is nothing that I would have done or could have done to cause this.

This vehicle is dangerous and extremely faulty. I have had to replace the transmission due to the car traveling at no more than 55 mph. In addition, there was extreme knocking within the steering wheel in which the steering wheel had to be replaced as well. Then my car started drifting again with white smoke coming from under the hood and exhaust. Now kia is saying that the engine is faulty and needs to be replaced. My car is not being serviced for a recall on the engine because it is a hybrid, yet non-hybrid kia cars have a recall for it. This is the same thing. What a disservice! kia needs to quit making cars altogether if the internal work has no endurance. I'm still paying on this vehicle. This car is a danger, waste, and disservice. Several complaints have been noted in reference to the same thing. What if the car exploded? then what? this car could have harmed me or others. Please recall the engine and anything else this car has that is unmanageable or unhealthy. The opportunity cost is pisspoor.

Stalled out in the middle of I-25, going about 70 mph and rush hour. I was about 40 min from home still on my everyday communte. I am seeing very many others with the same issue. This has me and my family in an unsafe situation daily and kia will not take responsibility for it. There clearly needs to be a recall on the same (or very similar) issue on the recall on the gas version of this vehicle. We shouldn't wait till someone gets killed or seriously injured first.

Takata recall- when braking pr pumping the brakes there is a knocking noise, this also happens when releasing the brake pedal on flat roads or hills. There is a creaking noise when releasing the brake after putting car from park to drive or reverse.

I was driving at 45 miles per hour in all sudden my car shuts off and says hybrid safety issue check break. The car shut off on me and my brake went right to the floor and I could not stop. So I ran into a field thank god that was right there and I had my four year old kids in the car. I turn the car back on and everything went back to normal started driving it did it again and my brake went right to the floor and said the same thing. I have saw four other complaints about this. It is in the dealership I do not know what it is yet but this scared the crap out of me it could have killed me and my four year old. I was going 45 miles per hour when this happen. It said hybrid cyst safety issue check brake in the brake one tree to the floor and I could not stop. Prices on the main road not a highway. I was in fort lauderdale florida on 19th street when this happened in lauderhill florida.

Engine oil leaking.

From a stop at a light or intersection, over seven (7) times the car has jolted forward and stopped abruptly, losing most power to the motor at that point. Audible alarms ring and the dashboard has read both "hybrid system warning! immediately stop and do not drive" and "check charging system". This has happened during left turns with oncoming traffic that then has to slow as I slowly creep out of the intersection.

The mpg has decreased from 38-40 mpg to 30 mpg since I had the fuel injection service performed. The dealer offers no help. Wish I never had it done. . . . . I get sudden surges of acceleration while driving on the highway. I've had to apply the brakes to slow down. Since this is an intermittent problem the dealer states they cannot help me. The newest issue is when turning the temperature down in the car to low it kicks on the ac. This too is an intermittent problem. I actually showed the service manager the problem yesterday and was able to replicate the issue more than 6 times, first he told me it was normal, then said he would check in to it. Scheduled an appt today for follow up and it is not acting out today. He said I can pay to have the mechanics check it out but since it is intermittent he doesn't think he can help me. Even though he witnessed it yesterday, he says sorry. They treated me like I was making all this stuff up. The dealership is the last place I want to spend my day, especially spending this kind of money. I have been to the dealer several times for the same issues without any answers. They are losing a customer !.

Vehicle was in motion on a road with posted speed of 50 mph. I had to brake suddenly, and the car stalled in the fast lane. I immediately put flashers on because of traffic coming behind me. It took about two minutes to restart the car because of the push button start and the power seats having to position themselves. Very scary situation and very unexpected. I've also had problems when slowing down, and the car hesitates in the turn. I've almost been hit twice because of this.

* October 2017 while driving in the freeway car slowed down. Got off freeway and turned off car. Car would not start anymore. Kia replaced high voltage fuse, hybrid battery, power relay. * March 2018 car was taken in due to hev and engine light on while driving. Car did not accelerate. Kia replaced the transmission. * March 2018 car was returned after transmission change and 2 days later while driving car gave hev and engine light on. Kia said it was a "loose wire" from transmission. * March 2018 car gave hev and check engine light on while driving and kia replaced the transmission again (2nd time in 1 month). * April 2018 check engine and hev code came out while driving and kia replaced the computer from engine. *March 2019 hev and check engine light while driving on kia replaced the main harness.

Vehicle surged forward while in motion to park in a parking space. Brakes failed to stop vehicle from a very slow speed of 5-10 mph approximately. Has done this on occasion at highway speed a sudden surge so a braking would relieve problem.

The engine shifts really hard and my car will shut down in the middle of the highway and today while driving several of my warning lights came on in the car and one advised me to stop the car and do not drive.

We first took it to edwards kia in council bluffs, IA on 2/11/15. When I originally took it to them, the service engine light had just come on and the car had just started doing the lunging and hesitating when shifting in lower gears. It was as if the accelerator was sticking. They downloaded a couple updates and turned the service engine light off. They advised the light came on because of the update that was needed and said that the shifting /idling issue was better. As soon as I drove it, I noticed it was still doing the same thing. On 2/23/15 I took it back in and they advised that there were two parts to the download and that they had put the second part on and thought it was better. They also gave me a kia tech support sheet on how to address the problem. This included warming the car up for 10-15 minutes, driving with the eco on the start of the trip, and to depress the accelerator 10 % more. They advised that was the nature of the hybrid vehicle in the cold weather but it didn't do it the year before. We then took the car to h&h kia in omaha, ne on 3/3/15 and the car is still there 7 weeks later. They have replaced the transmission twice with remanufactured transmissions. I am not sure why they wouldn’t put a new one in since the car only has $19,663 miles on it. The have replaced the generator now and still hasn’t fixed the problem. The car still isn’t showing any codes on the computer and they are waiting for the kia “experts” to arrive. I have not had my car for 8 weeks and they want me to take the car home until the experts arrive but I do not feel safe with it lunging and shifting erratic like it is.

Shortly after purchase took a trip to texas to see my daughter. On three separate occasions on that trip; was going down the interstate with the cruise control set, all of the sudden it started accelerating all on it's own. . . The 1st time I questioned if I had accidently bumped something, the 2nd also and the 3rd allowed it to act on its own and before I knew it was almost 100mph. Thankfully the brake engages. . When I returned home I immediately took it in for check and was told they could not recreate the problem so nothing could be done. . It is currently at the dealer for the 5th occasion regarding the same issue. . I am afraid for my safety and the safety of others having this issue. I have been told if they can not recreate the issue there is nothing they can repair. .

I was driving in a residential neighborhood and a lady pulled in front of me. I slammed on my brakes and swerved to the right so I would avoid hitting her. The next thing I knew I smacked into a pole. For the past year I have been trying to figure out how and why I had so much damage to my car when I was only going 25 mph. I finally realized that this happened because I couldn't stop my car even when applying the brakes. The accident happened July 10, 2013 and one year later on the same day July 10, 2014 my brakes failed on my car while I was waiting for a gate to open. I heard a terrible crunching noise, a warning sign came on saying hybrid system warning safely stop and do not drive and the only way I could stop the car was to use the emergency brake. The same warning sign came on during the accident. I remember my car wouldn't stop and actually seemed like it gained a little speed. I hit the pole and the car still wouldn't stop so I had to use the emergency brake to stop it. I sat there in shock over what had just happened. I couldn't understand why I hit that pole and why there was so much damage to my car. Now I completely understand why this happened. It was due to my brakes not working that day. On July 10, 2014 when the brakes failed for the second time, I had my car towed to the kia dealership down the street and they kept it for 7 weeks and said they couldn't find anything wrong with the car so I picked it up. I could tell something was still wrong with it but they wouldn't listen to me. Not even 1k miles later the brakes went out for the 3rd time. This time kia picked up several error messages. They still have my car and its been 4 weeks. They said they need to replace the hydraulic power unit. This is what they told me 2 weeks ago and its still not done. This is not a safe car to drive and I do not feel comfortable driving it anymore!.
