2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/31/2018

Nhtsa recall 17v224000 my 2012 kia was supposedly not in this recall but my car bearings according to independent mechanic are already wearing out prematurely at 84000 miles . The car will lose oil pressure and knock (bearing) blow white smoke and stop in the middle of the interstate. This happened once in stop and go traffic and once traveling at 65 mph where car decelerated to 30 mph. Car has always been taken to kia dealership for service but they claim they can not see the service records and will not cover under purchased warranty without them.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/23/2018

Bought a used 2012 kia optima from a kia dealership on 1/12/18. I did not drive this vehicle from 1/13/2018 - 1/19/18. Started driving this vehicle and 5 (five) days later, on 1/23/18 the vehicle blew a rod in the engine. After several unsuccessful attempts at having the dealership fix the issue at their expense, I was getting nowhere. I contacted kia headquarters and they assisted me with communication with the dealership and getting the engine rebuilt (as a goodwill by the dealership). Had the car towed to the dealership on 1/25/18; they had my vehicle for exactly 1 (one) month while the dealership rebuilt the engine. I received the car back from dealership on 2/23/18. On 3/6/18 as I was driving on freeway, the car started to lose power while driving. I was driving at approximately 70 mph on freeway, and car just started losing power. The car slowed down to approximately 40 mph and engine oil light turned on & off sporadically. No matter how much I tried to accelerate, the car would not go over 40 mph. This was very dangerous as I was scared that I would get rear-ended on the freeway. I slowly moved over the shoulder and turned off the car; I waited approximately 30 minutes before turning the car back on and proceeding to my personal mechanic (not kia dealership). My mechanic said not to turn car off; he inspected car & scanned it. No error codes were detected. He said maybe it was a fluke and to just continue to drive it. On 3/12/18 the same thing happened again. This time I took it to my local kia dealership and left it. After a scan & test drive, the mechanic could not find anything wrong with the car. Mechanic drove it the next day over 80 miles and this time he did experience the same reduction of power. He scanned vehicle again but no error codes show. It's still at dealership 3/19/18.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

The mpg has decreased from 38-40 mpg to 30 mpg since I had the fuel injection service performed. The dealer offers no help. Wish I never had it done. . . . . I get sudden surges of acceleration while driving on the highway. I've had to apply the brakes to slow down. Since this is an intermittent problem the dealer states they cannot help me. The newest issue is when turning the temperature down in the car to low it kicks on the ac. This too is an intermittent problem. I actually showed the service manager the problem yesterday and was able to replicate the issue more than 6 times, first he told me it was normal, then said he would check in to it. Scheduled an appt today for follow up and it is not acting out today. He said I can pay to have the mechanics check it out but since it is intermittent he doesn't think he can help me. Even though he witnessed it yesterday, he says sorry. They treated me like I was making all this stuff up. The dealership is the last place I want to spend my day, especially spending this kind of money. I have been to the dealer several times for the same issues without any answers. They are losing a customer !.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/15/2015

Purchased the car used at 25000 miles from a dealership. Car was fine, smooth for about 10 months. Did oil changes as usual. Noticed some jerking recently when I would come to a complete stop but didn't really bother me at first. Then I noticed it was having trouble accelerating from a complete stop. It would sometimes take 3+ seconds for it to respond and start moving. The more I would come to a complete stop (bumper to bumper traffic) it would take longer to respond to accelerate. Couple days ago, I did the maintenance 30k service. I thought it would solve the problem but it still did its thing. I had the "hybrid system warning! safely stop and do not drive" message happen twice. . Once after the maintenance. I took it back to kia and fortunately the guy did a test drive and replicated the issue with the lag. He also replicated the hybrid system warning message as well. I now have a loaner. Not sure how long it'll take but from the sounds of it from this forum, they dont know whats wrong. Hopefully I dont have to buy a new car =/ anyone with questions, email me at jpatalot@sbcglobal. 6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/29/2014

While trying to park the car in the parking lot structure, the car accelerated beyond control on it's own and hit the wall head on. I was already in my parking spot and only few feet away when the car accelerated. The passenger air bag was deployed and body damage occurred. Everything happened so suddenly, I am not sure about the speed at the time of impact.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

While trying to accelerate, the car randomly has a 2-3 second delay before action. When the problem occurs, the car will coast out into traffic, which may be moving at high speeds. This leaves me exposed to getting hit on a frequent, but irregular basis, and I am afraid to drive the vehicle. The car can also have jerky motions and lunges when accelerating from a stop on an incline, posing a danger to pedestrians and cars nearby.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Failure Date: 01/28/2014

To whom it concerns, I have a great safety concern related to the optima 2013 hybrid braking system. I am not sure if the behavior I am going to describe is typical or defective. When traveling at speed, with the cruise set, I find that any sudden and hard hit to the brakes will activate some type of automatic braking system. The braking system feels like abs and sounds very mechanical however the braking system does not deactivate after I remove my foot from the brake. The system continues to automatically reduces the car to a nearly complete stop (less than 15mph) without me having my foot on the brake. This has occurred multiple times, the most recent was 4/10/14. Earlier today I was traveling 50 mph on the highway, with the cruise set, when it appeared a person was going to walk into the highway. I hit the brakes hard to avoid the pedestrian, who eventually did not enter the road. The situation was not worthy of coming to a complete stop however the automatic braking system I described above activated. I removed my foot from the brake but the braking system continued to bring the car to a speed less than 15 mph. The vehicles behind me, understandably, had to slam on their brakes to avoid me as I could not speed back up until the system resumed to normal operation. Please let me know if this is typical operation or a potential defect. I feel this could be life threatening. Should I have to hit my brakes and this system activates, I could be severely rear-ended. Thank you.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Optima Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

I was driving on the freeway at roughly 60-70mph when the car suddenly began decelerating and not responding when the acceleration was pressed. This has happened 3 times since I have been on the roads. Kia is unable to find error codes or diagnose the issue even after providing them with video evidence. There have been multiple "computer glitches" but this has been the most severe.
