As my car was driving my vehicle encountered sudden changes and my engine light went on. As the vehicle stopped driving on its own there was smoke coming from the hood and a fire stared shortly after underneath the car.
I was driving my 2017 kia Rio at approximately 70 mph when the vehicle began shaking violently. I heard a loud mechanical sound from the engine compartment that sounded like something broke loose and was being thrown around. I immediately began pulling over as smoke started entering the cabin. As soon as I stopped, the car erupted into a fast-moving, intense fire originating in the engine compartment. The fire spread so quickly that the front of the vehicle and the passenger cabin were completely destroyed before the fire department arrived. The austin fire department responded (incident type: engine 2f) and the travis county sheriff's office also opened a case (case #[insert your sheriff case number]). Multiple bystanders also called 911 due to the severity of the fire. The vehicle had under 80,000 miles and was maintained with regular oil changes every 6 months. I believe this fire was caused by a known manufacturing defect related to the engine connecting rod bearings or the hecu electrical short, both of which are subjects of major kia safety recalls/settlements. The vehicle is currently a total loss.
My son and I were driving home from work on ih-35 and I noticed smoke coming from under my hood. Then within seconds, flames appeared moving quickly towards the windshield. I attempted to move to the shoulder and after doing so, I was unable to stop since the brakes were no longer working. I had to use the parking brake when it slowed down and then once stopped, my son and I jumped out of the vehicle and within 3-5 seconds, the entire car was overcome with fire which then exploded.
The contact owned a kia Rio. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle lost power. Various unknown warning lights illumined. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and the vehicle was shut off. The contact stated that smoke was observed emanating from the engine compartment. The fire department extinguished the fire. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.
The contact owned a 2017 kia Rio. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle front hood had started smoking. The brakes had became inoperable. The doors had locked up and the contact pulled to the side of the road. The contact noticed fire coming in the vehicle and she had to break the window to escape. Engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a police station. The origin of the fire was unknown. The location of the fire was under the hood. A fire department report was filled. A police department report was not filed. The ambulance had extinguished the fire. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
Bought the vehicle beginning of March. Thought it was the battery because it wouldn't hold a charge. Coded battery. Replaced. Twice. Electrical power steering started to code. That wasn't the issue. Car started to stall while on the highway or in traffic and cut out. Scary when there's semis behind you and you were just going 65 mph in a 70 and I had just got on the highway from the on ramp and was trying to get to speed when it cut out. The crank shaft position sensor coded then so had it replaced and its still rough on acceleration and shifting and it's an automatic transmission.
Excessive oil burning causing catalytic converter to go bad. Oil change every 3,000 miles with synthetic oil. Car was making knocking noise and having a hard time accelerating and going up hill.
I took my kia Rio to mechanic for knocking noise in engine. Mechanic said it's not the original engine and has been replaced. Nuts and bolts are rusted and some aren't even tightened or torqued correctly. I am the second owner of this car and could have been in an accident. This is very scary. There was no information about a different engine or anything else warning me about kia or Hyundai cars. Please let others know that their safety is at stake buying these vehicles.
My car needs oil every 3 to 4 days. There is no blue smoke and there is no signs of oil leaks. The vehicle was in an accident before I purchased it.
This vehicle has electrical issues none stop. One day it randomly stalled out while still in motion and lost all power. No power at all. It was “repaired” and I had it for 2 weeks and it again lost all power while in motion. It put my life completely at risk as I had to pull over into a parking lot after losing all power turning in the middle of a very busy main intersection. Kia dealership said it was the main wiring harness at first and replaced that but then the second time said that the new harness was out again and needed replaced a second time because of a fuse that was causing too much power therefor blowing the wiring harness again? now I am having engine and electrical issues months later. I had what appeared to be a need for a tune up. Which was done. It has continued to throw wrong codes and lights come and go on the dash all the time. I’ve gotten several tests done and I always get a code stating misfiring even when there is no light on the dash. The check engine light will come on for 2 weeks then randomly go off for 2 weeks. No matter what it will throw a code as misfiring in the 1&3 cylinders. Spark plugs, coils, air filter. Everything has been replaced yet the light still comes and goes and it continues to throw the code. Car has been seen by the dealership multiple times.
