Kia Motor RIO owners have reported 9 problems related to seats (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Kia Motor RIO based on all problems reported for the RIO.
My car is a 2018 kia Rio that has a clean history and has never been in an accident. Recently my airbag light came on and I had a diagnostic run that showed a b1448 code indicating an OCS mat defect in the passenger seat. The 2015-2018 kia sedona models also had the same problem and were issued safety recalls. Due to this previous history I believe there could be a safety recall needed for the kia Rio models as well.

2007 kia Rio has an airbag light on all the time, with a code specifying the passenger seat mat sensor. When clearing the code for the airbag, the code is rethrown after about 10 seconds. Nhtsa recall #12v244000 applied to certain models of the 2005-2007 model era, but didn't include all of them, as the vehicle has no open seat mat recall and none had been repaired in the past. Evidently the issue is more widespread than the initial recall. The light stays on all the time.

My airbag light will not go off for my passenger side!!! I think it is absolutely ridiculous that my car is not included in the recall because it definitely should be! what everybody says about the 2005 to the 2008 kia Rios and the 2001 to 2008 kia Rios is the same thing that is happening with my kia Rio which is a 2009. . . Can y please add my vehicle too??? also in the latest class action lawsuit it talks about the passenger seat pad sensor being broken and that's what breaks the passenger airbag so how in the world is my car not included in this?.

2009 kia Rio while driving around town at 20mph and having 26,875 miles in the od, the airbag red light turned on and the passenger air bag light started to blink on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven to an autorized kia dealer where it was diagnosed using a kds having 26,927 miles, finding 3 codes: b1448 OCS mat defect, b1513 buckle switch open short passenger side, b1511 buckle switch open short driver side. Dealer said that there were no recalls or reports from kia on this complaints for 2009 kia Rio and decided to not replace the parts under warranty. They recommended to replace both the driver and passenger buckle switch and the passenger mat seat for a total charge of $1,700. The vehicle is used by its original owner, never have been involved in any crash events, have low mileage and stills under the 10years/100,000 miles warranty offered by kia.
Airbag warning light intermittently going on and off for several days. Brought it to mechanic, they cleaned the wires and plugged everything back in, light went off. The next day the warning light came back on, now constantly on. Able to bring it back to mechanic at a later date and it was diagnosed as passenger lower seat air bag sensor failed and needs to be replaced (code b1448). This is the same issue that was recalled in kia Rios from 2006-2008. The recall took place in 2012, so the company should have recalled the part for all years up until the recall took place. This is a safety issue that should be addressed immediately by kia.
The 'airbag' dash light illuminates and the dealership has determined the cause of the failure is the sensor assembly located in the front passenger's seat cushion. This problem was addressed by a 'voluntary safety recall campaign' conducted by kia affecting "2006-2008 my Rio occupant classification system mat" but according to the local dealership my kia Rio manufactured in April 2007 was not included in this recall even though the problem/diagnosis/fix is identical.
The red air bag light is on. A sensor in the passenger seat is malfunctioning. There is a recall for 2006 to 2008 kia Rios for this same fatigue failure on the air bag sensor, but my VIN is not included. The general fix is to replace the entire seat costing approximately 1500 or more.

Just after the warranty expired at 61, 230 miles we had to replace the front passenger side seat cushion because the air bag light came on and kia would not cover it under their recall. Kia's safety recall campaign number is sc097.
When it rains I notice water seeping through the inside trim on the passenger side where the airbag logo is located sometimes is just a few drops and other times is enough to get the seat wet this vehicle is only 3 years old.
