Slowed down on highway as there was a backup from an exit, then accelerated again and car would not accelerate correctly. Engine light came on and then turned off as I exited off the highway. I turned the car off once safely parked. Burning smell was noted. Car would not start and was towed to auto shop where it was checked and deemed as an internal engine failure.

Bought the vehicle beginning of March. Thought it was the battery because it wouldn't hold a charge. Coded battery. Replaced. Twice. Electrical power steering started to code. That wasn't the issue. Car started to stall while on the highway or in traffic and cut out. Scary when there's semis behind you and you were just going 65 mph in a 70 and I had just got on the highway from the on ramp and was trying to get to speed when it cut out. The crank shaft position sensor coded then so had it replaced and its still rough on acceleration and shifting and it's an automatic transmission.

It was 12/21/2022 at about 3:15 pm in the afternoon and I had just turned right into the parking lot of st. Alexius medical center, 1555 barrington rd, hoffman estates, IL 60169. I took a left turn, and went north about fifty feet and stopped at a stop sign. A car was stopped at the same intersection from the right facing west. As I waited for the other car to turn in front of me, my 2011 kia Rio started to surge in speed without my foot on the accelerator. I instinctively jammed on my brake pedal to avoid hitting the car turning in front of me. Luckily, I did not hit the other vehicle, but I am concerned that this might happen again unexpectedly. The temperature at the time was about 20 degrees outside.

Yes my son bought this car last year I have been checking since January there has still been no recalls on his particular car he was in a car accident and unfortunately him and his passengers were all killed. I have contacted an attorney who has sent an inspector they said initial look it look like something to do with a rod in the engine and it catching fire but from other things it’s possible he could’ve had other problems dealing with the brakes the emergency assistance. So they think possible electrical and what else they have not said. They are getting with kia to get his car moved there so they can have one of their people take it apart to preserve evidence to find out which or if many of the recalls had happened to his more happened to his car.

tamara recall my car drive gear has twice slipped into shift gear. . . 1st, 2nd, along with a noticeable lou day sound: usually I put car in drive or reversal, then drive. I didn't know what was going on; then 2nd time I notice near speed, it showed numbers instead of d for drive. Vechile was in motion, I pulled into a restaurant parking lot. Cut car off and started car up again. All was good. 1st time I drove to got home didn't know what was going on.

Vehicle was in motion turning right decelerating as I turned. Once I turned, acceleration pedal was disengaged and no acceleration was happening. Braking system was completely locked up and could not press the brakes. When I coasted to a stop, there was visible fire coming from underneath the engine compartment. Temp gage never registered as high while driving. Within a matter of a couple minutes, the whole car was engulfed in flames as I waited for the fire department to arrive. They said there was no visible fluid leaking on the ground and did not know the cause of the fire. Car was maintained regularly for oil. Had issues with the car overheating and took it to kia and they could not find anything wrong with it and released me. Car is totaled now.
Takata recall. The computer that tells the transmission to switch gears is stuck and doasnt work. My car will only stay in 3rd gear and reverse. It has no power and goes in limp mode. I have 3 small kids and it is very dangerous for me to drive with it like this since the day I bought it. Plz help me.

Sold a car that turned out to be a lemon after only a month of having it began breaking down the most recent issue being the Cadillac converter making it a little dangerous to drive because speed is affected along with toxic fuel, whenever I drive up a hill the car is loud slow to where it sometimes rolls backwards or stops and at a green light car can not reach minimum speed cause other cars anger and strong fuel order sometimes when starting car, car cut off once at red light and when turning vehicle moves entirely too slow to when oncoming cars almost make contact.
I bought a used kia with 90,000 miles on it and within 2 weeks we were having problems with acceleration and power. It hesitates upon acceleration and lunges forward suddenly. It loses speed an power on the interstate in seconds. It isn't uncommon to go from 70 to 30 unexpectedly for no reason. After thousands of dollars of repair including maf sensor, all O2 sensors, and a new catalytic converter the problem remains. It is not safe to drive a car that lunges and then loses power unexpectedly. A car like this could kill somebody. The manufacturer says there are no recalls. I have had the car in the shop almost every 2 weeks since I bought it 11 months ago. And it was parked for almost 3 months until I could get it repaired the last time.
Car accelerated on its own, rpm's revving while driving down a major highway. Could not get car to slow down so had to steer car into a concrete barrier. Problem existed before the accident doing the same thing(rpm's revving) in park or reverse or accelerating on its own without pushing the gas pedal. Took in for repair and 4 days later was in the accident. Kia dealership telling me that the problem cannot be duplicated while driving it or performing inspection. According to their results, car is safe to drive. The acceleration problem occurred randomly before the accident. I do not feel safe to get back in the car and drive again.
Car accelerated on its own while driving for no reason. 4000+rpm brakes applied did not stop it. Mistake was to kill engine which kills the brakes and steering! luckily no one was injured or killed. Started car again and engine revved up by itself. Turned off and on and engine was normal. Important to put car in neutral not to turn off, neutral allows brakes to work!!!!! called kia they said they have never heard of this.

My problem is similar to another post on this website. My car would rev high on the rpms when starting it while in park and I would have to put my toe under the gas pedal to stop it and it would have to be repeated if it was still doing it while the car was moving, otherwise the car feels like it is pushing forward. I noticed this happed more often the next day if the car was parked quickly earlier, (but not always) and also happened more with less miles on the car when I first got the one owner used car at a Toyota dealership with less than 12000 miles. Had a issue with it when at a 3 way intersection where a car tapped my bumper hard enough to push me forward. The car immediately engaged in the "acceleration mode. " luckily I wasn't hit by any other cars while my car pushed itself out into traffic despite putting my foot hard on the brake. I managed to get my toe under the gas pedal to stop the acceleration and put on the brake after turning right. This happed in approx. 2014 or 2015. Never has happened on the highway as of this time. When I had a kia dealership looking at the car for another unrelated problem, they said that they would look at the acceleration problem. Despite inspecting and test driving, the mechanics said they couldn't find any acceleration problems. Yesterday on June 3, 2016 (after leaving our house with rough road out front that is to be repaired,) I was moving forward after stopping at a 4 way intersection, when the car started revving again. I had to brake, throw the car into park, turn on my hazards, and lift up the gas pedal with my toe all at once before going on the highway. Never had this happen while the car was moving until now. I don't know if going over a stone on the rough area of our residential street at approx. 10 mph led to yesterday's problem. There is a sense of loss of control over driving the car when this happens. Help!.
The contact owns a 2015 kia Rio. The contact stated that the rpms increased and the vehicle independently surged at a high rate of speed without warning. The contact had to apply force to the brake pedal. The vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
My had my car about one year and it started to lose power. When I took it to dealership to fix it I had to pay for two diagnostic tests 95. 00 each. The problem was the ignition coil, spark plugs, and exhaust manifold. It is now almost exactly another year past and same problem but now dealership can't read kia codes and wants me to drive it 60 miles away with the problem still happening. The kia dealership might be able to fix but have to get the car there. I did my own diagnostic test at autozone and a repair shop. They got the codes saying ignition coil, spark plugs, exhaust manifold, and possible catlytic converter with an estimate of 1260. 00.

I was driving 35 mph on a six lane commercial road (three lanes in each direction) when the vehicle suddenly decelerated to below 20 mph. The cars around me had to swerve to avoid hitting me, and I had to turn on the hazard lights to warn the surrounding vehicles. I tried pressing on the gas several times, but the speed would not go above 20 mph. However, the rpms were going above the red line (above 6,000) and the engine was revving very loud. The speed of the vehicle did not go above 20 mph for the next fifteen minutes of driving. I slowly made my way to a safe place to stop the car and pulled over. I turned off the car and waited for several minutes. I turned the car back on again and the speed control returned to normal. However, I am no longer comfortable driving the car, as the sudden deceleration may occur again. Maryland law requires that a vehicle on the highway must have a speed capability that exceeds the speed limit by 5 mph. The sudden deceleration and inability of the kia Rio to speed up again means this vehicle has a defect that is in violation on maryland law. The sudden deceleration of the vehicle in fast moving traffic put my life in danger, and I'm filing this report so a public record exists that this problem has occurred with a kia Rio (4s) 2014 model.

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 kia Rio. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, the vehicle would jerk violently accelerating without warning, then loses power. The lights on the instrument panel illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but could not fine a failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,252. Aw.
Got up early one morning to go to work, started my car, let it run for 2 minutes and put it in reverse and it moved without me pressing on the gas petal and I was parked down hill. Now my car starts sometimes and sometimes it won't. It doesn't do it all the time, but it still needs to be repaired. I wanted to know were there a recall on my car for these problems. I haven't took it to a shop to be checked yet, spend enough money on car payments to have to fix my own car and it's under warranty.
My 2012 kia Rio began to accellerate on its own without my foot on the gas to 60mph on a city street. I almost got into an accident. When the tow truck showed up to take my car to dealership, we started the car and the problem subsided. The tow truck driver told me that he would have to charge me for the tow since the problem isn't currently taking place, and kia said I would get the bill for inspection since the problem isn't able to be replicated. I have had serious problems with this car for the past 5 months with it sparatically not starting, then starting. Kia was unable to replicate the problem, so never fixed it as they don't actually work at looking for the problem, but want the car to be in an inoperable condition so that the code reader can do the work for them. Today was a new problem. I could have died! kia corp is just ignorning me. I am paying alot of money for this car and can't drive it because it is dangerous. I am terrified of it now!.
I have a couple issues with my 2013 kia Rio. The first issue is acceleration. Around the 30,000 mi mark, I took my car to have the recommended service which included an induction svc. Since then my car has not had the same good acceleration ability it had when I purchased the car. I've taken the car to two dealerships and have been told that this is just normal wear on the car. The second is something with the starter, battery, alternator, etc. I use the word "something" because no one has been able to pinpoint what is the problem. I bought a new battery on may 18, 2015. Post that battery purchase, the car did not start on June 27, 2015 (I had to get a jump). This no crank was post a battery, starter and alternator check by the dealership on may 23, 2015. By the way, the tests all came back finding no fault. I had two more no crank situations on July 19 and August 2, 2015. I've taken it back to the dealership after July 19 and have been told by kia that this will happen when it's hot. I don't believe them because I bought the car in the hell of st. Louis, mo summer at 55 miles in 2012 and did not have this recurrent problem until recently.
I have a 2005 kia Rio (VIN provided later) purchased 2006, low miles. Summer 2011 car stalled, stopped & check engine light came on & had it towed to the nearest shop, ntb. Replaced timing belt & no damage to my motor. I found out the timing belt needed changing at 60k miles (mine was lower). The mechanic wasn't able to determine a reason for the check engine light. Another suggested a bad sensor & wiped something off under the hood. The light went off after driving less than 5 miles. Replaced the alternator April 2013 (new alternator, belt & parts still under warranty). June 2013 the check engine light started coming on when parked upward on an steep hill, esp when outside temp was very hot (TX). The light would remain on until after parking it in a covered garage & driving hrs later. July 2013 mandatory car inspection. Week or 2 later, problems w/ rpm started; during take after idle. About 2wks later, ac speed suddenly slowed & became warmer. 2days later check engine light on & a strange noise near the driver's side. Again, towed to the nearest shop, the same ntb. All electrical components was still working. At the shop the car started but not long. They were puzzled. After 2days I was told my motor was bad & needed replaced. No one had an explanation. I had to have my car, only transportation for me & my kids towed home. I talked to different mechanics that agree I have a bad sensor & catalyst which caused my motor to lock (pre-ignition). There are several blogs/articles w/this same problem. However, kia has never said anything about the 2005 Rio fuel problems, only the 2004 & supposedly correcting it. But it wasn't & mechanics can't diagnose it. Something is wrong & needs investigating. A fatal accident could have occurred if I had been driving on the hwy. Kia should take responsibility for lost $ and time bc they only bsndaged the problem & not actually fixing it.

The contact owns a 2008 kia Rio. When putting the vehicle into gear, the vehicle would not accelerate. Suddenly, the vehicle would abnormally accelerate without driver intent. The vehicle was inspected on 3 separate occasions but could not be duplicated. The dealer attempted to remedy the failure on 2 occasions at no expense to the owner, but to no avail. The failure progressively became worse. Also, while traveling at speeds of 5mph and up, the vehicle would exhibit a whining sound. The dealer advised the lower ball joints would need to be replaced. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 50 and the current mileage was 21632. The VIN was not available at the time of the complaint.
The contact owned a 2001 kia Rio. While pulling out of the drive way, another vehicle was approaching at 50 mph, crashed into the driver who was ejected from the vehicle, run over by the other vehicle and is deceased. The driver tried to engage reverse and the vehicle unintentionally accelerated. The driver's side door was opened after the vehicle was struck. The vehicle was destroyed. A police report and pictures are available. The mileage was unavailable.

01 Rio is a lemon & safety hazard. Many major repairs done including the timing belt & valves rebuilt, new cooling system, both control arms & boots. Wheel defect recently recalled caused excess wear/ tear on control arms, boots, alignment, tires, costing thousands of avoidable repairs. Fuel intake did come lose, nearly causing an engine fire due to defective part which was recalled. It continuously misfires, engine knocks, stalls. Ecm was recalled but didn't fix the problem. Replaced spark plugs & wires (3 times in 6 months), ignition coil, sensors (oxygen, knock, crankshaft, temp). It stops for a 1-2 days, then comes back. Annoying & dangerous. Also has acceleration problem. At times, it won't go over 40 mph & also accelerates by itself. Brakes have completely failed, though there's no crack in the line, no leaking fluid. The car is a complete lemon. Online, there are hundreds of similar complaints. Dealers are aware but conveniently can't seem to diagnose the problems especially misfiring. Consumers get nickel & dimed doing needless repairs that don't fix the problem. The optima had similar problems w/crankshaft pos. Sensor which was recalled, but dealer denies any relation to problems with the Rio. Another problem - lack of availability & high cost of parts. Its bait/switch to sell a car with known problems, then guess at needless repairs & sell parts at an astronomical markup. It's cheap to buy, but repair costs make it very expensive. Research shows misfiring/engine knock has also led to engine fires. Also problems with air bags. My airbag light has been on since purchased, but dealer has yet to fix it. Also door locking problems, people being locked in vehicles. My drivers door locks by itself (manual locks). In case of engine fire or accident, a lock malfunction could cause unnecessary death/injury. These are known problems with hundreds of complaints, yet kia has done nothing to address them. The 01 Rio is a lemon and safety hazard.
My 2004 kia Rio started to stall at stop signs and lights @ 24,000 I am also experiencing erratic tachometer readings (up and down) and I have had a continued rough idle. I have brought the car to my dealer on more than 6 occasions and at that point they only returned the computer chip and told me there seems to be nothing wrong with my car. After hiring a lawyer and constant pressure from them to fix the car, they ordered a throttle arm and agreed to try it out. On June 23, 2006 before they put the throttle item in, I stalled @ 30 mph making a turn onto to a street from a intersection. A car coming the other way and stopped inches short of hitting me on my drivers side door. At this point even with the new part placed in my car, I do not feel safe driving this car since they said there is no way to guarantee the problem will be fixed.

The consumer stated several times while at a stop light, then again at a stop sign with her foot on the gas pedal with the vehicle in drive and the gear shifted int neutral. The problem also occurred when driving at very low speeds in the parking lot. The gear shifted into neutral again. While driving at 65 mph in a rain storm the vehicle made a noise and the dashboard lights came on. The consumer pulled off of the freeway and turned the vehicle off. The consumer started the vehicle, backed up and it worked fine. The vehicle had 3400 miles on it. The problem started at 2000 miles. The vehicle had been checked at a local dealership. The mechanic stated that the transmission sensors were fine. (11/29/05) the overdrive would shut off at 65 mph.
The contact owns a 2005 kia Rio senco. The vehicle will stall in the middle of the road. It is currently at the dealership. Also, the contact was thinking about the lemon law. On July 30, 2005 the vehicle lost power at 65 mph . The check engine light came on, steering locked, and vehicle was in the path of a tractor trailer. The contact picked up the vehicle from dealership on August 1, 2005 and again on August 3, 2005 the vehicle went back to the dealership, who replaced the computer chip. The vehicle failed three times. The last time it occurred on August 11, 2005 the vehicle lost power and shut off. This occurred while driving at a steady speed after the car has been driven for awhile. There was no warning before this happened. The check engine light came on immediately afterwards all this happened within less than 30-35 seconds. The first time she was driving at speeds of 65 mph, the second and third it was between 35-45 mph. The engine restarted right back. The vehicle is currently at the dealership she was unsure of what they were going to do with vehicle they told her they where going test drive the vehicle.
The contact stated vehicle jerked and cut out. When this happened the engine light came , on and there was a burning smell. The vehicle was taken to the dealership seven times, and they stated it was an electrical problem. They replaced the electrical throttle module every time, and stated there was a poor connection at the engine bulk. The problem has not been corrected at this time.
At 27mph vehicle started to accelerate to 70mph with no deceleration, even when applying brakes. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.
